There is an ironic component to a large fan contingent view to the TAA debate on here.

Trent leaves it's Liverpool's fault.

Zubimendi stayed (because he loved his childhood club and the town, etc) and he is the ogre.

I love my club but I don't think we are godly compared to all others! ?.

The circumstances aren't really the same are they?

@Metro, there’s a lot of irony to be found on this forum, most of it is unintentional but some of the stuff that is meant to be funny is pretty good.

My favourite at the moment are the Mo and VVD contracts. There are people saying that the contracts should have been tied up 18 - 24 months ago. However, if you were to roll back to 18 months ago you would find that a not dissimilar group of people were clamouring for the same players to be sold - one for not making a spectacular recovery from injury and the other for falling standards. To be fair most of the irony around this one has been unintentional and unacknowledged. It’s still funny though, or at least I think it is.

Groundhog Day.

Was it same posters giving both statements?

WDW just re-read your post and I missed the dissimilar part first time reading.

I feel extremely sorry for people who can't just enjoy what time we have left with these players instead of moaning every single day about them possibly leaving.

Footballers are temporary. It's always been this way. Every time a big players career comes to an end there is hysteria and every time the club comes out the other side with a new icon. People get so hung up on the replacements needing to be as good but it rarely ever works out like that and it rarely ever matters. What we will probably see is players already at the club will step up and take on more responsibility.

There is nothing happening right now that we haven't weathered a hundred times. Players come and go. The constant is the power of Anfield and the fans that fill it.

10 Oct 2024 14:59:49
The power of Anfield is lacking at the moment, MK. Though I do take your point.

10 Oct 2024 15:45:27
You’re full of it MK and your constant attempts to downplay supporters rightful concern over this situation is tiresome. Conservatively, if they had a few years left on their contract, you might expect to sell all 3 for a total close to $200 million. To get in players of equal quality you would likely need to spend more. The club are going to potentially weaken the squad and weaken its own ability to recover from the void those 3 players would leave. What other club at our level has allowed 3 first team, world class players to leave? Name me one. You can’t, because no other club is so unbelievably incompetent. You can fart out your rainbows and sunshine tripe, but the reality is the club has put itself in a really bad position for no good reason - if fans are expected to fork out ever more money for tickets, merchandise, subscriptions, etc then their expectation that the club not be run by complete and utter incompetents is equally fair. You’re like that meme of the dog who n the house on fire saying “everything’s fine”.

It'll liven up Rome1977, people just need to time to get over Klopp. Life goes on after these players and managers come and go. So far this season our 2 best players have probably been Gravenberch and Diaz. Go back to the summer and many people including myself wouldn't have lost any sleep if both of them had left the club.

This always happens in football though. Fans get so hung up on the notion that the replacement has to be a like for like in terms of quality but it rarely ever works like that. It just needs to be the right player for the team and invariably if you fill your team with talented players with the right attitude, somebody will take charge and become the new star of the show or the new leader of the dressing room. When we lost Fowler, Owen took up the mantle of star player. When we lost Owen, Gerrard took up the mantle of star player. When Gerrard's powers started to wane, Suarez took up the mantle of star player. When we lost Suarez, Coutinho took up the mantle of star player. When we lost Coutinho, Salah took up the mantle of star player. It was a similar story with the leadership groups as well. We had Redknapp and Hyypia. Then we had Carragher and Gerrard. Then we had Henderson and Milner. Now we have Virgil and Trent.

Almost every time, those players who stepped up were already at the club and it wasn't their direct replacements who actually took on the responsibility of driving us forward on and off the pitch. I literally could not be any more relaxed about this situation. Next season they're either here still, or we will have new players to get behind. We haven't even seen Chiesa yet by the way. If Slot can unearth the Chiesa of 2021 then Salah leaving becomes even less stressful.

10 Oct 2024 16:17:54
Seano, what is on fire out of interest? For a start, none of the players in question have even left yet and by many accounts they want to stay. Also, we are top of the league, battered West Ham to progress in the League Cup and have beaten two very good sides in Europe at a stroll.

Salah is 32. Alisson is 32. Virgil is 33. They are going to leave in the very near future whether you like it or not. This is part and parcel of the game. Era's come to an end. The Klopp era is well and truly over and Slot will rebuild the team in his image over the coming years. Part of that will include replacing the spine of aging players.

I highly doubt all 3 players in their last 12 months of contract will walk away for nothing in the same summer. But if that is allowed to happen, I'll moan about it when the time comes and even then, I'll only moan if we don't sign quality replacements.

10 Oct 2024 18:44:32
I read Seano's post in the voice of Greta Thunberg, gave me a chuckle . I agree with you MK, Liverpool will survive, lessons learned and adversity overcome. This isn't an ideal situation but I believe the necessary people understand the predicament we're in and are now (belatedly) working to sort it out using the power of analytics and rainbow farts ynwa .

When’s our next game?

10 Oct 2024 21:42:10
God forbid any of these players get a career threatening injury, but if they did I think the fans might have a bit less panic.

Movement in football is normal - Not many 1 club players in football.

10 Oct 2024 23:04:26
I agree MK. There’s too much computer game thinking when it comes to players and transfers.

If we’d sold them 18 months ago we’d have £200m to spend on players of equal quality?

Firstly, over their time here I can’t think of 2 players in their position at any club that I would consider equal quality. If there is then they are at City or Madrid so we would never be able to sign them anyway.

Secondly, how many times do we have to see players signed for big money as replacements for a leaving player fail before we realise it’s not a good idea?

More often than not a player’s value has very little to do with how successful they will be. It’s much more about finding the right player to fit your team whether that be a £9m Robbo or a £75m VVD or a player from the academy like Trent.

10 Oct 2024 23:16:59
The pertinent point here is that three top class players will leave for free at the same time. Of course players move on but it is unusual, and worrying, to have three of your best players out the door for nothing. It’s rank incompetency.

11 Oct 2024 04:36:06
I won’t comment anymore on it as I think there’s not much more to say that hasn’t already been said - if I am wrong come the of the season I will hold my hands up, admit my mistake, and bow down to the superior knowledge of other posters. If, however, I not, I hope those posters will acknowledge what a bad situation those running the club have put the squad in.

No ill will to anyone, it’s just football, just a discussion, nothing personal, let’s hope we win our next game.

11 Oct 2024 09:08:58
Seano is 100 % right. these players if they leave for nothing will cost us over 200 mill to replace. if we knew they wanted to leave then we should have cashed in on them the year bfr, . we need at least 2/ 3 quality players as it is to compete with city etc. now the extra money would have made a big difference in levelling the field . now we're on catch up again, while these clubs can spend what they want. shambles, no other way to describe it.
