Which player transfer to our beloved club would you stop if you could?
If you were invisible and was on the pitch Which match result would you intervene and change?
17 Oct 2024 04:13:01
Naby Keita
Liverpool 0 - 2 Arsenal (1989)
17 Oct 2024 05:05:17
Player: Diouf - 2002/ 03 was my first season watching football so was a bit young to understand we had signed that guy and not signed Anelka. That decision alone explains a great deal why Liverpool were so unserious from 1990 to 2016.
Result: Real Madrid 1-0 Liverpool 2021/ 22. That team and that manager deserved another Premier League or Champions League, just for running City close year after year and as a reminder of how good they were. Not to mention to disgraceful way our fans were treated.

Karius champions Leauge Final.
17 Oct 2024 07:07:53
Karius and that final he single handedly lost us. Just a horrendous goalkeeper.
17 Oct 2024 08:07:22
Andy Carroll
and
Man City 3:2 Aston Villa from 21/ 22 season. Got my hopes up high when Coutinho scored their second just for Man City to shatter them to pieces. Or the Gerrards slip versus Chelsea.

Paul Ince, Andy Carroll, Mario Balotelli, El Hadj Diouf are good shouts in terms of being poor fits for the club.
Then you have players who cost us at key moments like Loris Karius. I would also argue that Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren (Skrtel too) used to cost us a lot of points over the season through the sheer number of errors.
An interesting and perhaps controversial take would be the signing of Thiago. If we had not have signed him, would have signed a more available midfielder and ended up better off for the following seasons as our midfielders dropped like flies and key moments?
In terms of influencing moments on the pitch.
1) The Karius blunders
2) The Ramos arm bar on Mo Salah
3) Robbo's failed press that led to the Vini Jr goal
4) Mo Salah's missed penalty against Leicester City away
5) Paul Tierney
6) Lovren's two errors in the 2-1 loss at City in 18/ 19 season
7) Aston Villa's capitulation against City on the last day on the 22/ 23 season
8) Quansah's loose pass at Old Trafford
9) Michael Oliver's decision to not award Macca a pen last season
10) John Stones off the line clearance vs Mane in 18/ 19.
As you can see, I hold onto my trauma haha.
I think the most valuable single results have to be:
1) The 2-1 City way defeat in 18/ 19. Had we drawn that we would have had a CL/ PL double that season and been PL invincibles. Whether that was cutting one of the Lovren errors to seeing Mane's effort go over the line.
2) The Real Madrid CL final in 17/ 18. While Karius cost us two, losing Salah to that assault by Ramos was probably THE moment. He was the best player in the world that season and had he not got injured I think we would have won the game. Mo would have probably won the Ballon D'Or too.
3) The Real Madrid CL final in 22/ 23. We should have won on the day had it not been for Courtois' heroics. To be picky I think Thiago was clearly not fit to start so Naby should have. I also think we needed Bobby on much earlier when it was clear Real were going with the low block. And Robbo momentary headloss for the failed press which led to the Vini Jr goal was also a moment.
You can make a case for the City-Villa game but I think you could also make the same case for Mo's penalty miss at Leicester coupled with Mane's 1v1 there which ended up in an unlikely defeat.

Go back to 08/ 09 and have Federico Macheda fluff his lines vs. Aston Villa instead of scoring twice.
17 Oct 2024 13:18:22
Fly pelican, that 18/ 19 season was incredible, so close to being an absolutely incredible year only for the finest of margins. That stones clearance.
17 Oct 2024 13:39:17
Have to pick 3 players we should never have signed Diouf, Ballotelli and Keita. And I would love it if Gerrard never slipped that day and went on to win the premier league God knows he deserved to.
17 Oct 2024 14:09:49
Mario Balotelli. BR said he wouldn't sign for LFC. And then a week later, he was here. Absolute dumpster fire of a signing. Naby runs a close second, IMO.
The season? 18/ 19. Had we beaten Utd and WH away from home, we win the title.
17 Oct 2024 14:23:11
Ths might be really controversial, but I'd actually stop Luis Suarez from signing. He ultimately won nothing for us other than a League Cup, yet his antics dragged our mighty establishment's reputation through the mud (racism, biting etc) . In fact I still get stick now from rival fans for those infamous T-shirts and there's just no comeback for it. Looking back, I cannot believe I even tried to come up with an argument for keeping him at the club. He's a stain on our history that a League Cup and a few hattricks vs Norwich simply do not justify. I wish we'd just kept Torres and never signed Suarez and Carroll!
If I could alter a game it would be the 17/ 18 CL final, and I'd do so by rugby tackling Ramos to the ground every time he went near one of our players so that he couldn't pop Salah's shoulder with Judo hip toss and give Karius concussion with a flying elbow.
17 Oct 2024 14:56:55
Wouldn't remove the Gerrard slip cos then Bodger probably survives until at least the end of 15/ 16 and Klopp could've gone elsewhere by then.
Sorry Stevie, another one you had to take for the team.
17 Oct 2024 15:15:23
Besides the obvious players that you lot have named I will say David James I look at old videos and he really was a calamity. Not to mention the white suits. Also ruddock. Game would be the 07 champions league final v AC Milan.
17 Oct 2024 15:40:27
Kewell
Liverpool v Arsenal 1989 (0-2)
17 Oct 2024 16:44:00
MKS, not a controversial take at all, IMO. Our club was starving massively for relevance hence, a lot of us excused Suarez's despicable behavior and if it meant that we won the title with him producing as well as he did then, many of us were willing to abide.
Now we both know this. Had Klopp been in charge back then or even in our pomp, there is NO way on this earth he looks Suarez's way. No freaking way. That's the great thing about Klopp. He not only transformed LFC. He kind of fixed the past in some areas, if that makes sense.
As for Ramos, There are some games I played in where I can guarantee you that with some of the guys I played with, Ramos would not have finished that game after he took Salah out. I promise you that.
17 Oct 2024 18:23:49
Oli agree on the ramos point, he should have been disposed of. How he was red carded still baffles me.
Karius was a absolute shocker
Keita was a complete farce too
Suarez was an absolute awful human being on the pitch, never stopped his career progressing…. but also probably joint with Henry for me as the best the prem has seen.
Change a game, the slip obviously just for stevie g to deservedly lift the prem trophy…. lad was a absolute legend for us.
17 Oct 2024 19:28:52
@Scouse John, wasn’t it Bruce’s who gave James the nickname Dracula because he was afraid of crosses?
17 Oct 2024 22:54:25
I’d stop us signing Nicky Tanner
Moments on the pitch: I would run the ball into the corner at 0:1 down in ‘89.
17 Oct 2024 23:07:30
Has to be Diouf doesn’t it? Disgrace to the club as well as being rubbish at football.
In terms of games, it has to be the Gerrard slip vs Chelsea. We needed a draw, Rogers went for a win, we got a defeat. That would have won the title for Gerrard and that lad deserved to complete the set and win it all.
Don’t get me wrong 1989 vs Arsenal caused me extreme trauma, but that team had won everything so it was just another title for them. For Gerrard it was his last chance to win the lot and he deserved to.
18 Oct 2024 07:45:29
Match - FA Cup Final in 1988 - we were just intimidated and frightened off the game by an ale house team. Only time I’ve seen a Liverpool team do that.
Player was Diouf- not anywhere near the standard I’d want for the club as a player or person.
