I guess I should have come about the England manager topic slightly differently with a survey:

- would you represent another country against yours for your own personal (financial or otherwise) gain?

Yes or No.

- would you represent another club other than Liverpool for your own personal (financial or otherwise) gain?

Yes or No.

My answer is the same regardless of the question above. I have no animosity to those that think differently and definitely won’t call them names. But I do have one further question.

If you said yes to either of those above then I assume you would also have wished Stevie G luck and thanked him for his service had he left for Chelsea back when? You’d similarly wish TAA?

Whilst i'd personal say no to both of the first 2 questions, I would still respect freedom of choice and wish them good luck in the said scenarios, but I’d not be supporting their new clubs ?.

Have you ever changed job @Metro, and gone to work for someone else? If you have did you do it for money, because you wanted a new challenge, or perhaps because it was an opportunity to work for someone you’d always wanted to work for?

19 Oct 2024 09:40:11
Yes and yes. it’s a job is it not? Comparing both of those things are irrelevant. the 1st thing is a bunch of morons moaning that a foreign manager is managing England. nothing to do with a player leaving a football club. do you know how Xenophobic it sounds saying you can’t be foreign to manage England it’s embarrassing.

From the club perspective what would you like everyone to do? Get the pitch forks out and send death threats like stevie got? How lovely. It’s football it’s not that serious you say thank you for the service and you move on.

19 Oct 2024 10:22:37
Yes and yes. I would probably have an underlying, perhaps subconscious desire to put more effort into it if it was my home nation or favourite club, but I'd still do the job to the best of my ability, because that's how I approach any job.

The one question any fan should ask themselves if they are against the tuchel appointment is "would I celebrate if England won the world cup? ", and if the answer is yes, then you really don't have a valid reason for being against the appointment.

19 Oct 2024 10:23:19
The first question is more pertinent but even still, there’s loads of players who represent countries they have minimal ties too, in every sport. Look at Brereton Diaz playing for Chile when he was born in Stoke, has never lived in Chile and doesn’t even speak their language! The Nico/ Inaki Williams brothers play for different countries (Spain and Ghana) so which one of them is in the wrong? I don’t think nationality is as important to many football players and managers as you think it is. They just love the game. If Tuchel feels passionate about the Premier League, English football and likes living in London then why can’t he manage the National side?

As for the second question, in the kindest possible way that is utterly ridiculous and you’ve clearly not thought about it before asking. Do you have any idea how many footballers must support Liverpool who play for other clubs? Most players probably never play for the team they support. Carragher was an Everton fan and played his entire career for their biggest rivals. Coady is a Liverpool fan but he celebrated like crazy when he scored against us for Everton.

I don’t get why you’re so hung up on this. It’s just a job to football players and managers. They follow the rules regarding who they can play/ manage for and they pick up their pay cheques just like the rest of us do with our jobs. It’s not that deep mate.

19 Oct 2024 10:32:15
I don’t believe in nation states, nationalism or anything surrounding that, so that answers your first question.
As for the second one, I never played football, apart from in school and even there I was always the last one to get picked. So yes I would happily represent another club against Liverpool and help our team that way.

19 Oct 2024 10:58:34
Metro, also where was this debate when England played the Netherlands in the Euro’s semi final with Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink on the coaching team? England won that game, so national allegiance clearly didn’t tempt Jimmy to try and sabotage England, nor did refuse to be a part of the game as he sat on the bench and did his job.

Roberto Martinez is Spanish and at the current rate he’s going through international jobs he should’ve covered most of Europe by the time he retires. It’s a non-story mate. It’s not even like he’s England’s first foreign manager. He’s the 3rd in the last 20 years!

19 Oct 2024 11:01:39
I'm not against having a foreign manager because as others have pointed out, it's just a job. My concern is that the FA keep appointing mediocre managers that have no real track record of winning things. What that team needs is s a proven winner. There were calls amongst some to approach pep "the camel", and even though I don't particularly like the guy, that's what England needs. Someone that wins things.

19 Oct 2024 11:31:41
Yes for both. And yeah, It's a job. I think all football fans should look at it as that.

19 Oct 2024 11:50:42
In terms of the first one, do you mean as a manager/ coach or do you mean as a player?

I couldn’t represent another country as a player, your nationality is what it is.
As a manager/ coach? Yes absolutely I would. It’s a career, you have to feed your family and ambitious people want to test themselves at the highest level.
Yes I would and if I turned them over then my attitude is “you should have employed me”.

As for Liverpool? I think the answer is probably “yes” again but I’d have to think long and hard about joining certain clubs.

Players are often not real “fans”.

However, your final statement relates to LEAVING Liverpool for another club. That’s completely different and that would be hard for me to do. I don’t know if I could ever play with as much commitment as I would for Liverpool.

19 Oct 2024 12:05:58
@WDW3 no I haven’t.

19 Oct 2024 12:06:55
There goes the name calling ??.

19 Oct 2024 12:07:39
@kloppers best clearly read the post before asking a question that twists or bears uncorrelated relation to my point - my question was about personal loyalty at the club and international level and whilst my view was that I personally would feel strongly loyal towards my club and country that I also respect freedom of choice and maturity in understanding others views/ actions.

So no I don’t want pitch forks out and no I am not a moron!

19 Oct 2024 12:12:34
We have a manager from another country not heard any bleating from reds fans so why are they bleating about tommy tuckle very good manager. They had an English manger who cost us the euros twice so give the man a chance . Ps i am not an England fan .

19 Oct 2024 12:18:16
@MK

I think it could quite be you that’s hung up by it in all due respect.

I have explained - no I don’t support let alone watch England nowadays, and this turns me further away.

I have explained - “I” would not want to represent another nation or club in any way (if ever I had the chance) ??

I have explained - I respect freedom of choice and have no major issues whatsoever with others disagreeing with my opinion, or acting differently. I make my further decisions (like following the national team or not) based on that opinion.

I was just being inquisitive and seeking mature debate as opposed to antagonistic debate.

19 Oct 2024 12:50:19
Nation wise, I wouldn't play for England even tho I was born here. I have grandparents from both the North and South of Ireland. I would rather play for Northern Ireland than England and move to Derry whilst I'm at it ?.

As for leaving or playing for anyone other than Liverpool, that is a no.

19 Oct 2024 13:02:41
Metro, can you explain why you feel like that? I feel the people who have said "yes and yes" have given decent reasons for their answer, but you're just saying "well I wouldn't".

Not having a go at all mate, just think it would open up the debate a bit more if we understood your reasoning. If it's just a case of loyalty, I find it strange that you say you don't even follow England, but don't want a foreign manager managing them.

19 Oct 2024 13:35:37
There's no point in fans answering those questions, cos we all know who you support goes out the window when you're working within football and are offered a job. Do I have to point out the litany of players who played for the arch rivals of the team they supported as kids?

Likewise Rafa Benitez managed both Chelsea and Newcastle against us. Don't try and tell me he's not a Liverpool fan still.

I'd counter with a question of my own. What English manager were the FA supposed to get?

Carsley's already deemed not sufficiently patriotic by the red tops for not singing God Save the King, so he's presumably out for anyone who doesn't want a German manager. I can only see Howe or Potter as having the CV. Unless you want Dycheball. I personally have doubts over Howe and Potter didn't have a great time at Chelsea.

19 Oct 2024 14:13:52
The thing with the England job is, right now, after being so close to success. The only thing that matters is getting it done. I am adamant if we had a half decent manager in either of the last two tournaments we would of won at least one.

Right now English coaches are not at an elite level and that 100% needs to improve. However giving the top job to an Englishman purely because they are English is incredibly stupid/ naive.

Best person, who is interested, should get the job and everything else shouldn't matter.

19 Oct 2024 14:17:29
@rugby, totally cool with differing opinion and reasoned answers and there are some very fair mature examples of that (example Ron K’s response) but there are also examples of twisting my words and some name calling this may is just not called for. Read up you’ll find them. Like I said at the end of the day I am fine with other opinion we all have them and we follow our opinion up with our own support or not. Cheers mate!

19 Oct 2024 18:38:55
Allow me alternative survey to bring light to England appointment. Some appointment are iconic and symbolic.
Example:

Will Alibaba appoint Englishman to ge CEO?

Do you think US defence company Lockheed Martin will employ Russian, Chinese CEO?

Will James Bond be ever played by a asian or afro who grew up in UK?

Do you think BMW, Mercedes will appoint chinese CEO?

Do you think Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Sony will appoint a Korean CEO?

Do you think Kpop group BTS will engage a Japanese Manager?

So shall a major football country only appoint from their own country man!

I rest my case.

19 Oct 2024 19:11:28
And off into left field we go.

19 Oct 2024 19:39:46
So let me get this straight Metro.

If you were fortunate enough to be good enough at football that you could make a very good living from it but Liverpool didn’t want you, you just wouldn’t play football?

Do you not realise how ridiculous that sounds?

The international manager thing is a better question and I can see both sides but personally if I was fortunate enough to be a good enough manager to manage at international level I would absolutely manager another country. England would be my ambition but if France offered me £5m a year to manage their team and England didn’t want me I’d give it my best shot.

19 Oct 2024 19:44:12
The thing is he’s not the first.

We’ve had Sven and Capello, I don’t understand why it’s suddenly an issue.

Tommy T has at least managed at the highest club level, 2 major European leagues and the champions league. He knows the gig. Rather him than an untested Englishman.

19 Oct 2024 19:49:40
@leek: but where are their products made? They might not be willing to share the wealth, but they sure as hell are willing to share the poverty amongst their employees.

{Ed002's Note - He is simply trolling the site and is soon to be removed.}

I don’t usually advocate a removal of someone but please do that post was just complete and utter trolling nonsense.

19 Oct 2024 21:51:21
To the OG questions yes and yes. I don't care for International football, and whilst I am an RAF veteran ironically I am not overly patriotic. And yes I would manage a team to beat the LFC that I know and love because I would want to prove I was good enough to take that job one day and let's face it LFC manager is not going to be an aspiring managers first job is it haha.

20 Oct 2024 03:41:08
'I rest my case'

My word you embarrass yourself. Pathetic comment.

20 Oct 2024 10:46:38
Random Leek, even by your standards ?.
