Well that goes partly towards dispelling the myth that all European refs are better than English refs. Mac yellow carded for a clear foul on him, and Darwin ignored for what looked on replay as a completely legitimate penalty claim. Ref gets credit for ignoring the play-acting across the Leipzig team but he got two big decisions badly wrong.

It was an odd one. He didn't even lose control of the ball. Touch was perfect to get a strike off on next touch. Penalty for me but good win all the same.

Absolute classic stonewall penalty. Darwin got there first and the defender took him out. I can’t for the life of me understand how it wasn’t given.
It would be interesting to hear VAR’s explanation as to how they came to that decision.
I could understand the ref not giving it as he may not have seen the contact but that’s exactly what VAR is there for.

I think if we as fans of football started backing up with much volume all terrible var decisions and not just the decisions that went against us- collectively we would be more of a voice.

Fully understand the complaints (think ed mentioned in podcast) you can’t just highlight errors that influenced the result, obvious mistakes regardless should be highlighted.
With City’s VAR winner and this slightly confused. With City, personally thought goal should stand, but don’t think VAR should have intervened as wasn’t a clear and obvious error. But last night looked stonewall? Though remember hearing on commentary there was a VAR check?

Now that specific ref is not the shiniest tool in the tool box cos I have seen him do such things before. The pen aside, the guy booked Macca for diving whereas there was clear contact. How he could see that I have no idea cos he was directly behind the play? The guy was just guessing cos he was in no position to see these incidents clearly, IMO. Who knew John Brooks has a brother from another mother, apparently?
Then, he gave a foul a foul that happened behind him just cos the guy screamed and flopped to the ground hence, him hearing the scream made him give the foul whereas Darwin did nothing to him.
Really happy we won but some of the officiating was dire, IMO.

If the players can just get up and get on with it knowing that this is just the way things are surely we can as fans. Sometimes just playing football to a high standard takes the ref out of the game and thankfully we are one of the best at this. I feel sorry for Arsenal on Sunday if Diaz starts it will be a white wash.

Oli all I was saying is that refs will be refs and our players understand how bad they are and get on with it. Yes Macca didn’t dive I never suggested that.

For me Macca dived and the ref was spot on. He goes down way too easily and needs to can that side of his game. Stonewall pen shocking decision.

Red there is no way in the world that was a dive from Macca. It was thigh on thigh which makes it very hard to stay on your feet because it actually takes your whole leg away and you can’t jump over it.
I think you are allowing previous conduct from Macca to cloud your judgement there.

@Aoe, when the fans become more vocal would they all shout ‘Oh no it isn’t” / ‘H yes it is’? That would be brilliant .61,000 people all shouting either of those would make me laugh a lot.
