Well lads, I hate to say it, but I think Trent might very well be gone at the end of the season.
Trent did an interview with Sky Sports and openly admitted that he would care more about winning a Balon D'or than being captain of Liverpool Football Club. His reasoning being, he has been captain already. The interview is quite damning of our chances to retain him.
When I saw the headlines, I thought little of it, simply more pointless speculation, etc. But, when you watch it, you realise this might be his first hints at leaving. He actively tries to move past any mention of Liverpool, when it is brought up by the interviewer, and talks about his aspirations instead. This sounds to me like a man with eyes elsewhere.
If he does leave, I do not think it is on him. He has abided by his contract, and served his time ably. This is on the club not sorting out a contract and waiting till he had less than a year left. The fact we might be letting one of the best right backs around, leave on a free, is mind-boggling.
Hope I am wrong, but that interview came across as writing on the wall, and hinting at what is to come. A real shame.

Can't remember the last RB to win a Ballon D'Or. maybe Madrid will play him as a CM, and he'll become Stevie G over night!
26 Oct 2024 17:31:46
Madrid aren’t going to want him to play midfield.
26 Oct 2024 17:46:02
It’s about aspiration @Fisk - it’s about the desire to be best you can and to take any and all opportunities to make yourself better. In this case it’s about a massive talent trying to be the best he can possibly be. It’s not about winning trophies and awards per se, but if he can be the best that he has the potential to be then an effect will be to win awards and trophies.
26 Oct 2024 17:54:21
Good luck to him. It's a game of football lad. Never forget that. a lot more going on in the world, negatively and positively to ever give the time to care about where a football player ends up. Extremely poor financially but personally? These lads kick a football, a lot better than us but they kick a football.
26 Oct 2024 18:13:27
All our players should want to be the best player in the world. It’s normal.
26 Oct 2024 18:21:51
If the club hasn't or isn't going to offer him a contract then it doesn't want him anyway.
I doubt this is the case though.
26 Oct 2024 19:30:55
If he leaves i don't buy this its not on Trent attitude. Sure the club should have offered him a contract earlier maybe but he still has 8 months left and has been offered a contract. if it really"means more"and its your dream to captain the club then sign on, don't use when you were made an offer as an excuse to head of to your mate Jude. i would never leave liverpool to join Madrid, Barca r any other club because im a liverpool fan, just like trent. For what its worth i still think he signs but if he does go he'll go into the Owen and McManaman bracket for me, both were castigated for leaving the club and us getting pittance for them and Trent will be doing the same thing.
26 Oct 2024 19:55:59
It’s great to see Trent have the ambition for the balon D’dor but unfortunately he’s up against it.
The award usually goes to mavericks, goal scorers or players with the biggest fan base at the time.
De Bruyne is a fine example of winning things with assists and world class passes and not coming even close to the award.
Tent will win trophy after trophy at Real but I’d be confident enough to bet that one of them won’t by the Balon D’or.

As biased as it sounds, he's more likely to win a ballon d'or at Liverpool than he is at real Madrid.
Hear me out!
It's widely accepted that the ballon d'or winner is usually a player from a champions League winning team, or a world cup/ euros winner, or someone who stands out head and shoulders above everyone else in the world. If he wins the champions league with Madrid, so do Bellingham, mbappe, vini jr, and possibly haaland in a season or 2. There's no way he outperforms any of those teammates unless England also win the world cup, but then Bellingham will probably be in a better position.
At Liverpool, he's the best Englishman in the team, he's setting records for assists, he's team captain, so if the stars align, Liverpool win a league and champs league double and England put on a good show at the world cup, he's got a chance.
Obviously, I'm not saying those things will happen, but that's his only shot in my book, because there's no way in the world he's winning it over other teammates at Madrid.
26 Oct 2024 20:41:21
It’s a team game, if he doesn’t want to stay then it’s no big deal. He’s impacting games less and less these days.
Hope he stays, think he will, but if he leaves then “good luck Trent”. ?.
26 Oct 2024 21:48:10
Totally agree JK23, that was my point about him being a RB, Madrid will not sign him to play CM so i don't think he'll ever win it with the likes of Mbappe and Yamal around. At least with us he has a chance to transition into midfield eventually and then he might actually have a chance depending on how we're doing.
26 Oct 2024 22:16:13
Thankfully he plays right back for Liverpool FC and we're about to play Arsenal.
26 Oct 2024 23:24:19
He might need to flutter his eyelashes at Barcelona instead of Madrid if he wants to win things.
27 Oct 2024 07:06:53
He’s an employee at the end of the day and as ed002 correctly says, most players are simply transient.
27 Oct 2024 07:17:31
Honestly, I think it’s completely on Trent if he leaves. For me it’s the reason why there have been no negotiations, the club already know it would be futile. It makes sense to me.
27 Oct 2024 09:53:50
I agree with IR that it’s the players decision if he goes.
Apparently he’s staying though.
27 Oct 2024 10:24:07
Respectfully, who said there are no negotiations going one, exactly? Cos I've never heard that from anywhere else.
27 Oct 2024 10:45:09
Id be surprised if Barcelona were not in for him also, and I think he'd have a better chance with them for some reason.
27 Oct 2024 10:56:12
Just to back you up Oli, Trent specifically said the negotiations won’t be happening in public, it will all be done in private.
So no-one actually knows apart from the club and the agents.
27 Oct 2024 10:58:30
I can’t blame him for wanting to leave, we’ve toed the line in regards to ambition and given Klopp’s tenure we should have invested more when we were on top to reaffirm those positions. He’s guaranteed silverware at Real, so whilst I’d be disappointed if he were to leave I wouldn’t blame him.
27 Oct 2024 12:06:13
Not guaranteed much this season Frode.
27 Oct 2024 12:26:16
All this talk about the 3 players contracts is very tiresome, it really is a distraction as the players/ club keep being asked about it, rather than focusing on playing. The club really have taken their eye off the ball, not nailing down the contracts last summer, or bringing in replacements if they weren’t going to renew them.
On TAA, I’m a big fan of what he brings to the team, when he focuses on what good he brings to the team. Over the last few years, he/ Klopp has been culpable for the mistakes which led to losing matches against better teams who can expose his positional/ defensive weaknesses. He must surely know that the protection he gets at Liverpool for his mistakes will be in short supply with Madrid fans and the media, you can see already that Bellingham is beginning to take flak there, even though he was superb last season. If there is one consultation, it will be that if we play Madrid next year, Diaz will shred him.
27 Oct 2024 13:20:09
The negotiations and real decisions will be done in private and the mudslinging by fans will be done in public.
The club, The Three Stooges, TAA and Real Madrid have all been blamed for a decision that hasn't been made yet!
Or has it. ?.
27 Oct 2024 14:26:20
I could be wrong, but I think all 3 players have said that the club had not approached them last summer about contract renewals. That is a decision they made Rigsby, and something which is certainly comment worthy.
27 Oct 2024 19:19:21
The decisions were not made last summer, D-day. They are out of contract next summer.
What did TAA say exactly, btw?
The contract situations are worthy of comment but I'm talking about the OTT stuff. The contracts and transfer window were as disastrous and shambolic. People were talking of sacking Hughes months ago. Trent and Real Madrid have received stick because of it.
We all want certainty but it doesn't work like that.
27 Oct 2024 20:29:32
Trent has said no such thing, he insists it will be done in private.
27 Oct 2024 21:38:42
Trent is great on the ball and can play a killer pass once or twice a game but I do wonder if the all round team would improve if we did get a replacement? I do sometimes think Trent gets a free pass because he can ping a ball like he did today against Arsenal for our goal but prior to that pass he was shocking, positionally all over the place, very poor passing, can’t remember him winning a challenge and to be honest I got a real bad attitude off him in last few games.
Not trying to send him out the door to Madrid but I don’t think it’s an absolute disaster if he leaves and probably the easiest out of the 3 contract expirations to replace and possibly strengthen on.
27 Oct 2024 21:43:08
May not be future tense @Ron.
