I saw Salah play for Basel and said to my work mate the next day I would love him to play for Liverpool one day. So a dream came true. I told my dad when I was 13 years old that Henry was going to be fantastic one day. I know a player when I see one I also know when someone is below par and Szlob and Macca will always be a pair of average Joe’s for me. Gravenberch and Jones are great but we do need some better midfielders.

The club had options to upgrade the midfield and chose not to in the summer. MK and Beckers rallied the group saying we don’t need anyone.
4-2-4 doesn’t help either. Any team that know how to pass out from the back will break the first line and then it’s a straight run at our defense.

Why not become an agent. You’d clearly become a millionaire overnight?

04 Nov 2024 07:53:06
Shocking to know that MK and Beckers managed to convinced the club to not sign anyone by posting their opinions on a fan forum.

And I guess that it's lucky that all the teams we have played so far have not figured out that all they need to do is to break our press. Once they figure that out and started slide tackling our keeper, they'd have figured out our entire game plan.

And btw, welcome back Harry :)

Dom s has been instrumental in our wins through his pressing from the front.

04 Nov 2024 08:36:29
Is this the Monday morning numpty thread?

04 Nov 2024 09:19:27
Have you ever been wrong about a player, Nicol?
I thought Milan Baros was going to be a top player for us. I'm sure he never got there to spite me. Or was it the tactics we used at the time?
Or as is more likely somebody had money on him not becoming a top player.
My only consolation is that I didn't tell my Dad that he was going to be good for us.

04 Nov 2024 08:44:21
What really happened was that MK and Beckers got into Zubimendi's head and convinced him to stay in San Sebastian.

04 Nov 2024 09:01:35
Mango, we tried to sign Zubimendi in the summer, he chose to stay at his club.

Thankfully we’re not just signing anyone, as we have done in the past, just to appease certain sections of our support.

I remember saying we should sell Gravenberch in the summer, it’s amazing how players can sometimes look completely hopeless one minute and completely turn it around the next, and vise versa. I’m very much a patient fan as well, I remember being one of the very few on here who would back Lucas back in the day and he turned into a pretty important player for us, so I’m never quick to say sell, but Grav looked absolutely done to me though, looked absolutely useless. Now I’m his biggest fan.
Spotting talent isn’t easy at all and that’s why I’m not a football scout. Lol.

"MK and Beckers rallied the group saying we don’t need anyone. "

Wait, are these John W Henry and Tom Werner in disguise?

04 Nov 2024 12:04:00
Good grief, the world class scout strikes again.

04 Nov 2024 12:12:42
I don't agree with the op on this at all. I think our midfield looks decent. I think macca and dom are both good players with a lot of qualities and dom works damn hard every game. I think we could possibly do with some cover for grav that is more in line with our style of play than endo but other than that I'm happy. Elliot will be back soon too and if jones can stay fit that will be great. I think we're allowed to make statements and people are allowed to disagree with said statements. What i think would be good is if people could say why they disagree rather than only posting to call posters 'numpties' or criticise posts without offering a reason why Or any opinion of their own.

I also never said anything of the sort by the way. In fact one of the biggest dramas of the summer on here was me taking stick for wanting us to sign Rabiot! ? I also said if we didn't get Rabiot I really liked Kone.

Revisionism at it's finest. I did say we don't need a hatchet man/ destroyer because that wouldn't suit Slot's build up play through the middle of the park and I think Gravenberch being one of our best players proves that point quite well! Another poster who's head I'm living in rent free. This new found fame is very flattering indeed.

{Ed001's Note - I have to back MKS here, he defo did not say we didn't need anyone and was also very much taking stick for saying Rabiot would be a decent signing.}

Given the club has been trying to secure a DM for over 2 years now, I think that is still on the agenda, regardless of what we think.

I have been impressed with Gravy but want to see a bigger sample size. The last few games have been tough going for him as the opposition has swarmed him. So far so good.

Macca has been struggling this season. I wonder if a decent break would be worthwhile.

Curtis needs to stay fit.

Szobo is a concern. He's completely lost his touch and instinct in front of goal. I have no idea what has happened there. He's putting in huge shifts off the ball but struggling to find his ball playing ability. He can do it as he did so at the start of last season. Not sure what the problem is but it's been an issue since returning from his injury last season.

Cheers Ed001, I thought maybe that Rabiot debate had been a fever dream for a moment! I assume Mango is another Harry alias? ?.

{Ed001's Note - I think so.}

MK scouser did want us to sign players but he also is a big supporter of giving chances to academy players to fill gaps in the squad and there's nothing wrong with that.

04 Nov 2024 15:10:06
That's exactly it Fiskesprett, I distinctly remember saying I was happy to give Morton a chance but that I thought Endo might struggle with Slot's style. I then also said I was equally happy to upgrade the pair of them.

I'm not sure about the OP's opinion on Szoboszlai or Mac Allister either by the way, or in what world we were ever going to replace them in the summer. They were the last 2 midfielders anybody on here wanted to replace. I saw a lot of posts about Thiago, Elliott, Endo, Jones, Gravenberch etc needing to be upgraded but I did not see one post saying Macca or Szobo were the problems and I was on here nearly every day in the summer window.

Macca is a really good player who works hard, scores goals and creates goals. He definitely lacks mobility but how many players are complete footballers? Szoboszlai on the other hand works hard and has incredible athleticism but probably doesn't score or create as much as he should. They're both still relatively young and also are learning Slot's system which is very heavily built around the midfield and that Dutch school of 'total football'. I don't think it's a coincidence that the player thriving in there is Gravenberch who grew up with this type of football.

I was distracted from the OP's post by the absolute fruitcake who can't get my name out of his mouth, but it was a very weird thread to start in the first place from NicolBocker Glory. We've won 13 from 15!

04 Nov 2024 15:16:43
We’re playing new tactics under a new manager. Spending millions and millions on new players before he had a chance to review what he has at his disposal would have been madness. Gravy proves the point- bad in one system, good in another. Since we didn’t waste the money last window, we have it to spend in future. It’s not rocket science. Just be patient. Slot clearly knows what he’s doing here.

04 Nov 2024 19:09:17
Did I see my name mentioned here?

I honestly don’t think anyone said we don’t need to sign anyone from what I remember.

I also don’t remember every conversation I had with other posters but my feeling is that we should sign the right players not just any players. We had too many years of just getting bodies through the door and it never worked.

In the summer I was happy to go with what we’ve got unless our top targets were attainable. I used my obvious influence with the LFC hierarchy and dropped into JW Henry’s DM’s and he of course listened to my sage advice. Slot was a little harder to convince but after a bacon butty in a certain cafe on Blackpool seafront he was putty in my hands.

And now we are top of the league. You’re welcome guys.

04 Nov 2024 19:23:02
To answer the OP’s post I saw Salah at Basel too and said exactly the same thing. I was gutted when he went to Chelsea.

I only needed to see Gravenberch’s first 10 minutes of his first game for us to know he could be really world class. He’s got something that kid and it stood out a mile to me immediately.

I also said Harry Kane was a championship striker who will never make it in the premier league so what do I know?!

04 Nov 2024 23:45:31
I said I would be fine signing nobody Becker. I said I would like to see what tune slot could get out of current players before buying new ones as I felt what we had would fit his playing style anyway.

I also didn't think we needed a 'destroyer' it's honestly not a necessary position anymore since most midfield press as a two or three man unit these days.

05 Nov 2024 06:46:31
I saw VVD at celtic (if I am not wrong) and said whoa. Why no scout is taking notice of him? He is a top player.

None of the top club scouts noticed him, he went Southhampton and we paid premium price (right) price if I can say based on how he has turned out.
