What a start to the season by Arne Slot. Top of the Premiership and top of Champions League.
Scary thing is things will only get better as he spends more time with the players implementing his tactics on the training ground, and when he gets to bring in his own players. Still early on but good times ahead.

Alonso - we are in an excellent position.
And for Slot and the players to have done this following a “transitional period” following one of the best managers of all time, makes it all the more impressive.
The players have adapted very well. Slot has already shown he has great tactical knowledge in a limited time.
He has managed to extract more from underperforming players (Gakpo, Gravenburch) and improved the defensive solidity of Trent and the rest of the back 4.
We rarely get long balls in behind Trent anymore causing us problems and turning us round.
We look much more comfortable with the tactics. Players look like they know where they are supposed to be whereas last season at time ls they didn’t.
Most of us would have taken top 4 in the summer with concerns over a transition. It’s November and we are top of both the premier league and European league - doesn’t get any better does it?

All without a proper preseason and all. I think there is room to improve- notably the shocking form of mac and that he hasn’t dropped him, but the fact that slot frequently makes substitutions that affect the game in a positive light is a great thing for me. I love klopp but I always felt his weakness was in substitutions that never really made a huge difference. All that’s needed is the three boys to sign back on and I think we will be flying. Here’s to actually facing a real challenge one of these days.

Perhaps Slot who sees Mac quite closely daily isn’t of the same opinion of Mac’s form as some posters are.

Let this settle in for a moment- when we beat United 7-0 we had less than 1 xG, last night we won 4-0 but had an xG of more than 4, which shows how utterly dominant we were and how superior we were. I think that if we can figure out how to fix the gaping hole between the front press and Mac allister being caught up field and get more cover for Ibou/ robbo on the left hand side of defence, we are going to be unstoppable and close to impossible to score against.

I don't really get the old XG.
But i do understand that 7 goals scored is more goals than 4 whichever way you look at it.
I reckon our XG in that CL final vs Real was superior but we didn't get to lift the trophy.

I have to say I don’t understand it either. I know it’s got something to do with the probability of a shot being a goal but it would be meaningless to a player about to take a shot and is only really of (vague) interest after the shots, or match, is over. It’s also irrelevant to the next match as you can’t predict what shots, or how many, there might be.
