What are people's thoughts on the approach to tonight's game? I'm sure a few will disagree with this, but given the advantage we have in the CL currently and only needing to finish in the top 8, I'd be prioritising Sunday's game when thinking of the line up tonight. Not great for the fans travelling to Anfield but surely the bigger picture has to be maximising the points lead in the league to give us the best possible chance in the business end of the season.

Absolutely not. It's Real Madrid at Anfield. Was the Klopp era just a fever dream of mine? Are we actually still in 2015 with Brendan Rodgers throwing games?

27 Nov 2024 11:32:45
We should go out there with the aim of battering them. We have the capability, and with the home crowd behind us, only one result will do. We owe them big time. Approach the game with respect, but also have the confidence we can beat them comfortably. As for the City match, we should approach that with the same mindset as well. Our tails are up, let's keep the momentum going.

27 Nov 2024 11:35:45
Think of it the other way, we play a weak team and get stuffed by them. That could derail our season, we need to keep the momentum.

27 Nov 2024 11:56:53
If we go and do RM tonight we'll be turning more heads, it's needed. I think a lot of people still don't see how good we are, to be looked at as the best you have to beat the top teams. Time to issue a statement tonight, smash these and show no fear. The lads will be well up for it I think and then go do the same to City at weekend. Every game is important at this level and 100% should always be put in.

The last thing we need is a loss or a draw and their heads dropping before the City game.

I’m with salah on this one. We get a result tonight- its the perfect tonic for facing city. Though confidence is probably already high- I think a result against madrid could be the perfect factor in belief going forward- not just for city but the rest of the season and perhaps the era under slot- we have a brilliant opportunity to break the hoodoo. let's go for it.

27 Nov 2024 13:39:20
Nah. Smash em and ride the winning mentality wave through the weekend. ??

It’s a big week for us, smash em both and that belief will see us good for the rest of the season.

27 Nov 2024 14:11:36
Standings and upcoming games should not come into it tonight. We put out our strongest team and we go out to win. We do the same again on Sunday.

If we have secured a top 8 in the CL then we can maybe think about rotating a few extra players for the last couple of games against any Lille and/ or PSV.

27 Nov 2024 14:12:13
I’m sure at points of the season it can be difficult to not let this kind of mindset creep in.

But as a general approach to the game I don’t think any high performance team would benefit from taking this kind of approach to a game. It’s too inconsistent with your values and ethos as a team trying to compete at the highest level.

At another level, ya can’t be dining at the top table and then only half turn up y’know. So ye not for me.

27 Nov 2024 14:56:28
Real Madrid under the lights?
Just pick your best team and go for it with everything you have.

Our game at the weekend is on Sunday so there's plenty of time to recover.

Haha I like the way Salah responds to his own posts. keep it up mate, it’s priceless aoe/ Salah as for tonight’s game, I want us to win if nothing like a do every game.

27 Nov 2024 15:21:52
I mean, if you want a winning team then they have to have a winning mentality - go out a try and win every game, got to have the belief in themselves that they can

I agree with Salah, don't want a loss to cause the heads to drop before the City match - big week ahead, and you know if they lose these games the media will have the knives sharpened, win them though and that could cause a few other heads to drop in our opposition teams.

27 Nov 2024 15:32:13
Lol good point well made sid, I thought I was speaking to myself for a moment earlier. That bloody aoe ;) don't know who I am these days mate. Too confusing for this many personalities.

27 Nov 2024 15:37:57
We have been a bogey/ bunny team of Real Madrid for sometime now.

We should win and get this feeling out of the way.
If we need to win CL, we need to beat any opposition that comes our way.

I want us to win this very badly and on Sunday to pump more pressure on City/ Pep to see how they fare under such pressure. It must be completely new to Pep being in this position.

We couldn't beat Arsenal, if we can't beat City, it will give other teams hope against us which is not we want.

27 Nov 2024 16:20:50
Realistically this game doesn't matter, so we go out there and we lose 2 players to injury then our season could be derailed.

In a perfect world you start a full team and sub as many of them off early as you can, but say we lost VD or Konate, salah tonight to injury.

27 Nov 2024 17:05:42
Although l think it is more important to win the city game, as we are in a good position in the CL to qualify automatically, there is no escaping the reality that money talks. A win in the CL group phase is worth €2.1m and a draw €700,000 as well as each place in the table being worth at least €275,000.

I don’t imagine we will rest too many players for Sunday.

27 Nov 2024 17:32:17
I think it highlights one of the problems with the new CL format in the sense that if we lose it really doesn't matter and it shouldn't be like that. I like the format and how it feels more like everyone plays everyone rather than just 6 or max 7 teams you could possibly play 13 different teams now. But there is an element of games not mattering as much in the group, there needs to be a bigger incentive to finish 1st out of 36 teams rather than 8th. I understand 1st can't play 2nd until the final but still. I'd take a loss tonight if it guaranteed a win vs City.

27 Nov 2024 17:55:01
Slot has answered this question in his own forthright way. This game is where we set standards and collect points, laying down a marker for the next game. Now is not the time to lose focus and start worrying about Sunday.

27 Nov 2024 23:52:46
We didn’t beat forest, surely that means other teams are filled with hope when they play us.

28 Nov 2024 11:13:31
Bang on Salah. Win tonight and the whole world will take notice. Huge opportunity to prove we are not only legitiamte contenders for Premier League and Champions League but favorites.
