There is a long list of players who have burst onto the scene as youngsters, looked to have a great career ahead of them and then not made it for some reason.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for a young player to have some struggles after a breakthrough season and to have something of a rude awakening but Quansah looks to me like a player who needs to knuckle down quickly and get his feet on the ground before it slips through his fingers.

He's 22 next month so not exactly a kid in terms of young players breaking through to the first team. There were already a few signs last season that he'd taken his eye of the ball and was believing all the hype when we were all talking about him as being our new van Dijk and a fixture for the next decade, but this season he just has the look of someone who is a bit too sure of himself, a bit cocky even. He's casual and careless in a lot of what he does. He had the ball at the back at one point last night and was doing this unnecessary thing where he was kind of hopping backwards on one foot whilst dragging the ball with the studs of his other boot. And then he mis-controlled it and put us in trouble. Just completely un-necessary. Not sure who in the team will dish it out to a youngster who has got ideas above their station. Henderson would have done. I like some of the old stories about how Keane used to hammer the "Class of '92" youngers when they first came through and got a bit too big for their boots. Would probably be considered bullying now but I think Quansah needs somebody to get into him like that.

Quansah burst onto the scene like Micah Richards did.

Quansah is young (actually thought he was younger than 21) and he's clearly showing something to both Klopp and Slot that he has what it takes.

He's already made more appearances for Liverpool in 1 and a half seasons than fan favorite Nat Phillips in his 7 seasons here, so that shows that appearances at this club aren't given out willy nilly.

21 (going on 22) for a Centre Half is extremely young.

He's made a few mistakes this season but he's also not really had a run of consecutive games.

He's probably 4 choice Centre back at Liverpool but not currently being as good as VVD, Konate and Gomez isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Quansah will be fine, he's young and needs to mature a little. By the time he's 25 I think we'll have a solid CB in him. The players he has around him will help him push forward. A promosing young player who we should be excited about.

The vast majority of younger players will make mistakes and bad decisions from time to time, it's part of growing up.

I think it's too easy to point the finger without thinking 'remember what it was like been 21?' Good god I don't even want to think about it, at that age you think you know it all yet know next to nothing. It's a learning curve, the more he learns the better he will become. Same goes for any lad that age.

I may be wrong but the majority of Quansah's games in his "break through" were as a replacement for Konate/ Matip so alongside Virgil.
I might be wrong but very few of his appearances this season have been alongside Virgil so perhaps he is missing the valuable experience and influence of our captain?
Its also worth remembering that a lot of the best centre backs come into their peak at a more mature age, even VVD was a bit careless in his younger 20's.

Nice one, Rigsby - I thought of that and chuckled as I wrote it.

I remember Keane challenged him on that and Richards got quite feisty about it.

I'd hazard a guess that none of us knew who Van Dijk was when he was 21 years old playing for FC Groningen.

Quansah has had a ropey start to the season but give the lad a chance to show us how he reacts to a rough patch.

19 Dec 2024 14:21:10
Think he could do with a loan and constant game time, but we'd need to then replace him. Not sure I could trust putting him in week in week out. Realistically could have seen red yesterday.

19 Dec 2024 14:27:41
They did and it was TV gold, RR.
It's hard not to like Richards but he's not much of a pundit.

Quansah has a lot going for him but I wish he had more fire in his belly.

I thought Gravenberch played brilliantly at CB the other day and he's just one year older than Quansah. I think Quansah will do fine but he's a long way to go.

I really don’t see quansah making it at lfc and I don’t think slot is that sold on him either imo, going to be a back up or sold .

19 Dec 2024 16:43:55
Quansah had hi debut at Newcastle last season when we were playing with 10 men and I thought he showed his ability and talent in such a high pressure situation.

I just think that he was a bit overhyped by those too eager for him to do well hence, dismissing his glaring flaws and mistakes. This is why he seems to suddenly be struggling whereas in reality, he has always struggled.

Quansah is talented and is just going thru a rough patch right now. He just needs to focus, buckle down and work on his game and get people people around him to nurture him. Whether he will make it at LFC is not the point right now. He just has to keep working and keep improving. He rw talent is not up for debate, IMO.

I think CB is the hardest position (maybe outside GK) for a young player to break into. Its more reliant on a cool head, positioning and reading of the game than athleticism things that come as you mature. Young players go through ups and downs and are more vulnerable to criticism.

I remember when Trent got torn apart by Rashford in his first few seasons and people saying he wasn't good enough. The same thing happened to Sterling in his first season. Curtis has had absolute pelters until recently, Elliot went through it a bit. Young players are v rarely consistent.

I agree his feet need keeping on the ground but let's give him some time.

Once again we are reminded of how fickle football fans can be.

19 Dec 2024 20:44:22
Spot on imred on everything u say. if quansah works hard and his attitude is right he will do v well for lfc imo.

19 Dec 2024 21:03:51
OP, I think in a lot of cases the assessment of the next weekly ‘generational talent’ - particularly since the advent of the interweb - is based on the views of ‘influencers’ who have probably never actually watched a match live in their lives.

Once an opinion gains sway then all us judgemental chaps join in and the unrealistic expectations are systematically taken apart as a youngster fails to meet the stellar trajectory that he is ‘expected’ to follow.

I wonder would a really good loan help his development. I think he has it all but his casualness seems to be a problem. I would imagine endo will replace him at centre half going forward so perhaps a move in January could be the making of the lad.

20 Dec 2024 10:01:32
I'm all for home grown and English players being given a place in the squad. At present Quansah is 4th choice and rightly so. Very young and can certainly improve. He was great last season and can get back to that level certainly but yes he needs to stay focused and cut out the silly mistakes and complacency.

20 Dec 2024 11:04:10
I honestly do not see Endo replacing Quansah as 4th choice centre half.

20 Dec 2024 19:15:52
A fair point jk- I should have made it clearer that I think endo (who’s getting very little game time) could replace him were he to go on loan as cover- should we get further injuries for the remainder if the season. Should add that I’m a massive fan of endo in midfield. Think he could do both jobs as the need arises.

20 Dec 2024 20:56:25
Aoe that’s a fair enough point mate and I wasn’t trying to dig your opinion out.

I think lots of posters would love to see Endo get more game time in the middle but for some reason or another it’s just not happening.

I also think Quansah is getting dealt a little bit of rough hand as well. The lad is currently 4th choice centre back and whilst he has made a couple of mistakes it’s not like our goal gets bombarded constantly when he is on the pitch.
