I think Darwin will spend his entire career in a bad patch. I think we should get Cunha or Isaak.

Agree9 Disagree0

27 Dec 2024 14:56:26
He can't spend his entire career in a bad patch because he's already a good patch.
I can live with his bad patch if we keep on winning.

Isaac is as reliable as jota for being available.

27 Dec 2024 15:09:49
I don't get why people keep going on about Isak. If he's going anywhere he's probably going to end up at Arsenal and they can have him because 1. We don't need a forward just yet and 2. We want somebody who can stay fit. If we get rid of Jota then fair enough we'll need a forward and we shouldn't be replacing injury prone with injury prone.

27 Dec 2024 16:34:35
Id love to see us take a punt on someone like Delap at Ipswich.

27 Dec 2024 16:43:27
I actually had a little look into this yesterday.

Isak has been in the PL now for 2 and a half seasons. His first season he missed 11 games from a thigh injury but over the last season and a half as far as minutes played in the league he’s played more than Diaz, Jota, Nunez and Gakpo.

Last season he missed 6 games with a groin injury and this season 2 so far with a broken toe.

That’s not me saying we should sign Isak but I don’t think Isak is this walking wounded player that is portrayed.

If missing 8 games in a season and a half is injury prone then perhaps we have a few more than just Jota.

I usually stay out of the conversation, but I just don't agree with the desire to get rid of Nunez.

I absolutely love the guy. And he does miss chances. But, as has been said, he gives tremendous effort and works his butt off for his team. Frankly, I don't mind seeing him in a Firmino-like role where he can score at times, but really helps the wingers flow.

Maybe I'm too sentimental as a fan, but the guy loves the club, works hard for his team and teammates and seems to really love being a Red. I'd rather stand with him than keep going on about selling him because he's worthless.

If he does get replaced, I sincerely hope that the player that comes in plays with the same passion and love of where he is as Nunez does. That is hard to find in the business of professional sports.

27 Dec 2024 17:09:49
Dbav I’ve never really questioned the other players in our current squads efforts or love for the club though.

27 Dec 2024 17:23:07
@JK, that's fair, but the squad isn't always like that, and there have been a few in recent memory that may have seen Liverpool as a stepping stone.

Again, I'm likely far too sentimental, but I've never enjoyed fans jumping on a player unless he's showing a lack of desire or commitment. I feel like the tone should be support until they and the club decide to move on.

And part of it is that if things were different, they wouldn't be the same, so there could be an argument to be made that Nunez's performances have been more of a help than a hindrance based on the team's results so far.

27 Dec 2024 17:41:09
Dbav no worries mate. I’d say that the professionalism and efforts of all our squad (not just Nunez) is what sets us apart from other teams.

100% Nunez has had a positive effect on the team but so has every other player. Just some more than others.

Nunez didn’t start the first 7 games mind Orr leverkusen, City and spurs so there could be an argument that we do pretty well with and without him.

27 Dec 2024 17:41:21
I don't think Nunez is any better than someone like Benteke he's just in a much better team. A top class 9 has to be a priority in the summer.

27 Dec 2024 17:48:25
We are top of the league and let’s have it right Darwin has been a big part of that.

27 Dec 2024 18:00:31
let’s have it right Darwin has been a big part of that.

What kind of part has Salah, Vvd, Grav, Gakpo and Diaz had?

27 Dec 2024 19:07:56
Sometimes I wish Tris would bring back the thumbs down button.

{Ed001's Note - nothing to do with me mate. I don't see them on the edit page and I wouldn't care one way or the other about them on the page. Thumbs up and down and likes etc just don't interest me in the slightest.}

27 Dec 2024 19:23:29
Team Nunez here. Totally committed, works hard, great foil in attack, and contributes more than goals. I also think he'll find goal scoring form, he's only 25 after all.

I can almost understand the criticism, but it's not like we're desperate for goals here or that we score less when he plays (maybe someone more industrious can prove me wrong on that) . I also fear this is a grass is greener sentiment from overly critical fans.

What's more concerning is the obsession with Isak on here. I think he'd be terrible for our system. Other than being a poacher, what does he contribute? I'd love one of his fans to point out anything else he contributes off the ball. I just don't see it.

27 Dec 2024 21:20:28
And on top of that @Snuggle, Isak can go 10 games w/ o scoring and nobody will bat an eyelid. Safe to say that will NOT happen here should we sign him for the fee we are seeing brandied about (100m by some accounts) hence, more expensive than Darwin, btw. He will be getting cooked in the media and it is not clear whether he can deal with that kind of pressure. At least, we know Darwin can do it cos regardless of the dog's abuse he gets, that guy still straps it up and gives his all to hepl the team win.

Also, Isak tho a better finisher and quite versatile, will not be getting the amount of space to run into playing for Newcastle as he would playing for LFC cos well, nobody respects Newcastle that much hence, rarely gets low-blocked. I mean, Ipswich went to to toe will them to begin with.

This is why when I see a player balling out in another team, I don't just check the stats. There are so many other things to consider.

27 Dec 2024 21:49:19
Every player we have signed in this current squad has more or less balled it at another team or a team that no one respects as you put it Oli.

28 Dec 2024 00:28:16
JK, that may be true but not all teams are created equal. Macca was balling at Brighton BUT you already knew he can handle extreme amounts of pressure having played a big part in Argentina's WC win, for ex.

Darwin came to Benfica as the most expensive signing in Portuguese league history playing for the biggest club in Portugal and he was able to handle, thrive and succeed with the pressure that came with, as well. Darwin may not be doing as well in the PL but the pressure does not phase him either.

I can keep going but I think you get the point.

28 Dec 2024 02:15:08
JK, to answer your question, Salah, Vvd, Grav, Gakpo and Diaz have all had big parts to play in us getting to where we are now. Similarly, I would add Kelleher, Allison, TAA, Bradley, Macca, Szob, Jones, Gomez, Jota, and Konate to that list as well. It's a squad game and we wouldn't be first on the PL or CL if we had any passengers in the squad.

I agree with Dbav's sentiment as well. I can't get behind the hounding of players unless they show a distinct lack of professionalism or effort and thankfully, we do not have a player like that currently. Not saying that we can't criticise players or point out their faults but wishing for things like Nunez not being here next season doesn't sit right with me.

28 Dec 2024 06:58:42
Dracred I’ve not wished for Nunez to not be here next season.

I asked about the parts the others had played because only Nunez got mentioned. He also seems to be the only player mentioned for effort and running like he’s the only one that does it.

28 Dec 2024 07:05:47
Oli you’ve used two examples. What about Vvd from Southampton, Robbo from Hull, Konate and Szob from Leipzig, Allison from Roma, Jota from Wolves, Diaz from Porto (not the biggest team in Portugal), Elliot from Fulham, Gomez from Charlton, Endo from Stugart, Tsimikas from Olympiakos, Salah from Roma, and Gakpo from Psv

All surely come under the same umbrella of balling it for another team. Or in your words other teams no one respects.

28 Dec 2024 08:53:39
Sorry JK, that part about not wanting Nunez here wasn't directed to you at all but to other posters on here and on social media in general. Should have made that part clearer in my post.

28 Dec 2024 09:15:41
Drac no worries mate I thought that mate but just added it into my reply as we were having a good debate.

As it’s said many times before it’s impossible to sense someone’s tone on here so at no point was I snapping back. It’s always great to hear others thoughts and let’s be honest it’s all opinions.

28 Dec 2024 10:25:44
is that not a reason to bring the thumbs down back ed001? i don't even remember why it was removed but sometimes the thumbs down tells more than the thumbs up will, at least in terms of majority of opinions.

{Ed001's Note - does it matter? It would be better if people actually explained their opinions rather than just voted.}
