Just watched a short video with Dion Dublin interviewing Michael Owen about his experiences and memories of the upcoming match with the septics.
It's on BBC sport/ football website.
I have two questions for you all
1) In your opinion is Owen a Liverpool Fc legend?
2) At the end of the interview Dion ask Owen are you a Liverpool legend what do you think his answer was YES or NO?

Owen was a sensational player for us at a time when we needed sensational players. he was an academey player who burst onto the scence and gave all Liverpool players something to cheer about.
Michael Owen. is not a legend. he never will be. because of the choices he made.
i hope he said no!

He's a legendary bell-piece.

How can Owen even think he could be a legend for us, when he signed for the enemy. Dion "homes under the hammer ' Dublin knows this anyway.

Owen at age 17-19 was at times unplayable. His acceleration and agility were insane and he could spontaneously set off in nearly any direction at speed with the ball, leaving the defender in the dust. His first major injury dulled his agility a bit, so his ability to tie defenders up in absolute knots wasn't quite there anymore, but he was still explosively fast and could finish.
I don't think Houllier helped him. Rather than coaching him to add anything to his game, or making him work on his link up with Fowler, Houllier opted to sign Heskey to provide flick ons for Owen to run onto. That was always going to end up with Owen becoming nothing once his pace was gone.
But the main reason I don't think he has Liverpool legend is because of his behaviour off the pitch. Goading youth players into playing cards against him and gambling more money than they had, "Well done Michael, he's 13", complaining that he's not a Liverpool legend and then being pictured at the City game with a face like a smacked arse when we were winning, allegedly having a hand in forcing Fowler out and I could go on. And on.
He's complained about not being seen as a Liverpool legend recently, so I doubt he did tell Dion Dublin that he is one. But I'm sure he answered to the effect that he thinks he *should* be a Liverpool legend.

He must've been reading everyone on here last week saying how he wasn't a legend.

Of course, Owen is an LFC legend, one that exist in his own head.

Owen will only ever be a legend in his and his family's eyes. Not one proper liverpool fan will ever call him a legend. He played for United. end of argument.
04 Jan 2025 12:38:46
No. Just for the fact he got fowler kicked out, because he was jealous.

To be fair he was at one time the most electrifying and unstoppable player in world football, he is probably the fastest player I have ever seen play for us, he could come short and link up play or play on the counter and he was a very good finisher, shame that he was also a complete jerk and made the awful decision to go to real. Could have been a legend maybe but still very far from being one, though i do think people will continue to remember his best days, which were in a red shirt no doubt.

Guy is a toolbag, left us on a free, joined United. On no planet will he ever be a club legend.

Even in his prime we still preferred fowler. Another thing about Owen was he always put England above Liverpool imo. Never really felt he was a Liverpool player always an England international who played for us .

I don’t think anyone can seriously call him a club legend.
He could and probably should have been but injuries and bad choices ruined that.
I don’t think you can even call him a legend as a player either, he certainly hit some heights and was unbelievable when he burst onto the scene but he didn’t stay at them heights long enough for me. He was little better than average at Madrid and Newcastle and let’s forget what happened after that.
Compare him to ronaldo (the original and best) they had similar amounts of professional games played and both suffered with injuries but Ronaldo absolutely did the business at all times when fit and won on the big stage as well, unlike Owen.
To be totally fair to Owen he was absolutely stunning for a couple of seasons and I remember as a kid loving how he played, but yeah flash in the pan, never a legend.

Owen will never be a legend and he knows that. He's probably looking for the sympathy vote?.
04 Jan 2025 15:43:34
Again, a legend in his own head.

Owen is not a legend at Liverpool. Too many fans have a bad opinion of him for that to be the case. He did really well at his best for is like many other non legends, but they never signed for utd which would negate any legend status for me.
He was also not a pleasant person, I know people around him rather than knowing him, including his now wife Louise. The stories of his treatment of youth players if true, is certainly in keeping with the opinions of those around him. Not a dreadful person, but not one to look upon with fondness.
