05 Jan 2025 19:33:38
Ok I know I am going to get slaughtered for this but seriously. TAA can go with mu blessing.
05 Jan 2025 19:44:24
One bad game? Come off it, I wanted him taken off just after half time, he was struggling big time. But I don't want him to leave on the basis of one performance, it's obviously been a tough week mentally on him.
05 Jan 2025 19:47:13
Seriously? One poor game; when it’s not your day, it’s not your day. His radar was off. Almost as if he got the yips. It happens. Maybe the Real offer has messed with his head - but let’s back the guy.
05 Jan 2025 19:48:39
It was a bad day at the office for TAA without question.
05 Jan 2025 19:50:26
I posted on the chat, as I couldn't get ticket for game, he can't defend, and that's regardless of today's game. Despite what some folk think on here, he's not the best RB in the world. If he wants out, all the best to him.
05 Jan 2025 19:54:43
Sorry, which players actually did play well? A lot of off days were had there. Mac the pick for me.
05 Jan 2025 19:54:47
Best fans in the world. YNWA etc.
05 Jan 2025 19:55:06
P. s. YNWA, eh?
05 Jan 2025 19:55:55
This is actually the game when yiur character shows. And Trent unfortunately did not turn up. We need players who fight when going is tough especially when Trent wants to be future captain. No way this is Liverpool captain material.
05 Jan 2025 20:06:20
It wouldn’t surprise if he was ill he was that bad.
05 Jan 2025 20:06:31
It was a bad day at the office for Liverpool.
I said they'd have a completely different midfielder from the Newcastle game and that I could see Fernandes and Mainoo doing a job for us. They were better in midfield than us and we need someone new to play alongside Grav.
TAA was poor but that doesn't make him a poor footballer. We lost the midfield as well and a point isn't bad after that performance.
I also think the weather was a leveller but that might be unfair on United.
Again, we showed that we can score goals but we need to be tighter at the back. A new midfielder and a left back this month would be great.
05 Jan 2025 20:07:03
But it’s ok for VVD to miss from 4 yards out to win the game.
05 Jan 2025 20:07:59
I'm with you PD, Macca was motm for me.
05 Jan 2025 20:16:01
Trent was clearly targeted today as a weak link and was exposed badly, both goals down to his misplaced passes as he was rattled. He needs a rest and think Bradley will start midweek.
05 Jan 2025 20:16:18
He can’t defend? Seriously? Did you ever see Cafu or Roberto Carlos play? Ok, Cafu didn’t get caught out as much as Carlos, but I’d say Trent is as solid as him.
Problem with Trent is that he sets himself such high standards that once he makes a mistake, he implodes.
Being beaten by Vinicius to a header in the final almost took him a year to recover from.
Today he made positional errors, and then his passing game fell to bits as he overreached to make up for it.
05 Jan 2025 20:19:33
We shouldn’t be hounding Trent out of the door. He had a shocker, he’ll know it 100%. I personally think slot should have benched him from the start simply because of the outside noise. His head wasn’t there today.
However Trent wasn’t the only one to underperform.
VVD and Mac are the only 2 that can say they played well.
05 Jan 2025 20:21:28
Nevermind Cafu or Roberto Carlos Monstersouness - have these people saying he can't defend seen him play 3 games this season?
His performance today was awful, not going to deny it, but it was aberration relative to his season as a whole and anyone who says otherwise is just wrong.
05 Jan 2025 20:22:13
TAA had a bad day there is no denying that, he'll be seeing VVD's snarling face in his sleep tonight. Fair play to Amorin, they stopped Jones, Mac and Grav turning with the ball, closed them down quickly and choked the midfield. Without Garnacho TAA had no-one to sit on and wondered. I'm old and fat now but every time I watch Maguire play I wonder why I stopped. They're still a rubbish team, rubbish skipper, rubbish defenders and rubbishter forwards and in sporting terms Ineos have turned every thing they have touched to rubbish so I'm still optimistic the slide will continue.
05 Jan 2025 20:22:53
Amorim has a similar scenario with Rashford, he has been ruthless and axed him from every squad since, as he knows otherwise one player can fester and divide the squad, club and supporters with it as well.
Hes a good coach, ye don't beat City twice with two different clubs in the space of three months with a 6-2 aggregate score. Tactics spot on today, Onana kicked every goal kick long, no playing out from the back line, he by-passed our high block by going over the top of it, this is how Clough use to play against LFC, by putting the ball in the air, every challenge is then a 50/ 50 challenge always invariably in your half of the field, i. e. he nullified our high press by simply going over the top of our front four, that means if they lose the ball they are further away from there goal, and more importantly nearer our goal as well if they win that 50/ 50 ball, also means you have to start all your attacks from your own half of the field, interesting times?
05 Jan 2025 20:25:08
Redspana - The worst part is they'll probably spanked in their next league game against Southampton.
05 Jan 2025 20:28:47
I'm not hounding him out, Moreton, I just don't buy into the "best right back in the world" rhetoric. I know Ed01 is a big fan, but we agree to disagree on the matter. If he stays, he needs to show major improvement in defending to keep his place.
05 Jan 2025 20:31:53
Personally I think this one's on Slot, Trent had been appalling first half and shouldn't have come out for the second. Same goes for Jones.
05 Jan 2025 20:32:21
We need an answer from trent 1 way r another. He also needs an answer for himself 1 way r another.
05 Jan 2025 20:34:48
@Irish Rover, i got a feeling you maybe right, Trent did look like he is carrying a flu or cold of sort, i saw on close up when he and Salah stand over free kick and his face looks red and swollen.
05 Jan 2025 20:35:29
Trents had several bad games this season. This was his worst since he's debut.
Hopefully he picks up form and does well for the team.
Bradley needs more minutes so hopefully Trent gets a rest soon or atleast plays less minutes.
05 Jan 2025 20:41:45
With cricket, you actually see far more personal frustration with players. If a batsman gets out, then the pundits and fans immediately leap on their character. Possibly understandable as cricket is a psychological game: 1 player vs 11 - but it’s always struck me as a toxic, if normalised, way of judging a performance.
While cricket may be seen as posher than football, the behaviour is way more brutal - and possibly explains why there is such a high suicide rate compared to other sports.
I don’t want to see football go down the same route. Sometimes a player is just beaten on the day (nb Dalot and Bruno were superb today) . It doesn’t mean they are a lesser person - they just struggled on the day. It’s obviously different if a player looks like he can’t be bothered or feels affronted to put in a proper shift (eg Rashford), but Trent always works his socks off. He lost his confidence today - it happens. Support the lad - he needs it, and we need his confidence back.
{Ed025's Note - amen to that mate..
05 Jan 2025 20:43:15
Poor performance. Not a surprising result. United always turn up at Anfield.
Just for perspective which should always be used after a gutter punch performance and result.
6 points with a game in hand over Arsenal/ athletico. 12 over current champions with a game in hand.
Everyone below us would be happy as Larry to be in our position. Roll on Forest.
05 Jan 2025 20:53:49
Rome - my post was in response to the initial poster.
I agree he needs to up his game defensively. But today he just wasn’t at the races. He should have performed far better today especially against United. But as I said I think slot should have gone with Bradley simply because of the noise surrounding Madrid.
05 Jan 2025 21:10:54
I don’t have a problem in Trent leaving to Madrid. But I am sure FSG ain’t spending £50 mill on a new right back. So I ll keep him.
05 Jan 2025 21:25:21
Some interesting views on Trent. All in all, he had a terrible game which happens. Unfortunately for Trent, it's against man utd with a tonne of crap in the media about his contract for a perfect storm.
His quality is there for everyone to see and I am happy to take the odd defensive mishap for what he brings.
However, my concern is some of the very basic things in his defending. This season he is far, far too easy to go past. A half hearted shoulder drop and you can cut inside him and on the rare occasion he stops a player from cutting inside, it's fairly easy to get a cross by him. This isn't ability, he's been better than this in previous years. It's either concentration, arrogance or laziness. For £300k a week, and a potential captaincy (if rumours are true) he needs to do better (pointing out the obvious) .
05 Jan 2025 21:26:41
Liverpool were poor today but stop the TAA hating it’s ridiculous. Isolated once again with two players to take care of and unfortunately even though Gravenberch has been brilliant his defensive side is not great. The game was crying out for Endo
Up the pool.
05 Jan 2025 21:48:01
Was there a reason Utd concentrated on Trent? Maybe they don't thi k. he's the best RB in the world and they were proven right today. Says it all that's where they decided to attack and he fell apart like they obviously thought he would.
Doesn't matter what the pro and anti TAA fans say, Amorim was right to attack our right side and got his point.
05 Jan 2025 21:50:07
That team was not focused at all thru out the game. So many wayward passes, poor decion making, lack of detail and really as many have said, such a vad day at the office.
it was so bad that part me was saying and praying to not lose the game cos that is what it looked like for spells in that second half and had we lost, I wouldn't have complained cos we were that bad.
Slot got is wrong for the first time in his subs. That game did not need Darwin and Jota as soon as we equalized. That game needed a Szoboszlai in midfield cos they were outworking Jones for starters.
Also their only game plan was to his our right side in transition all game long and for sem reason, Slot could not figure it out and provide cover there which is what Szoboszlai out there. Must do better.
05 Jan 2025 21:58:41
Trent was garbage. But there was more than him. We as a team, the fans, everything was below par and we didn’t deserve to win.
05 Jan 2025 22:06:00
Hind sight is a great thing which none of us poseds we stick together through the bad times and the good times will come back. We win as a team we lose ss a team it's 11v11 after all good thing is how quick the next game comes around to get today out of our system. Plat TAA from. the start he will produce a performance for us to admire as usual.
05 Jan 2025 22:19:55
Let me firstly say I want trent to sign a contract extension, secondly have to say over the last 2 to 3 seasons I've seen trent lack lustre at times, these times being very rare. Sure his. Defending at times has been poor but it's a bloody tough league against some very good wingers. However today's performance is the worst I have ever seen him, if he was ill he shouldn't be playing and definitely changed at half time. But if it's the contract/ real Madrid situation then he's brought it on himself. To put a performance in like that against a big rival like man united is shocking. It wasn't just his defending today. He couldn't be arsed and let his team mates and fans down. He now needs to tell the club where he stands. If he doesn't want to sign a contract at 300grand a week to play for 1 of the world's best football clubs which happens to be his home city then I'd personally sell him now to real. I've always said he. Should be captain after virg but I'll take back. As for Jones, not sure what people see in him either. Average at best. Very poor game also. Nunez was bad and as much as I'd love him to finally become the player we want him to be, it's just never going to happen for us and should be made available asap.
05 Jan 2025 22:22:55
Allegedly he want to win the ballon d’or hence the interest in joining Real Madrid…. its highly unlikely any right back would win the ballon d’or but on that performance he’ll never win it.
05 Jan 2025 22:28:34
I said early doors we needed endo in midfield instead of jones. Bruno needed a rottweiler on his heels and was afforded FAR too much time constantly throughout the match which is nothing to do with trent specifically. Dom wasn't avaliable and I think his energy was the difference. The mark of champions is to play poor and win.
We played poor but didn't lose it just sucks the wind out the sails cos it was at home to united. Beat forest next game (very doable) and all is forgiven. We have a cushion for a reason. We were never gona create a 20 point gap!
05 Jan 2025 22:54:25
Anyone can have a bad game but there a were times today when Trent was barely trying. That’s inexcusable.
05 Jan 2025 23:47:09
Trent was woeful today but it’s 1 game. In general he’s had a good season and he wasn’t the only one that was poor today. Alisson wasn’t great by any means, Jones was poor. Diaz quiet. Gapko struggled first half. Salah wasn’t great. I would say the only 2 good players were MacAllister and Gravenberch with VVD and Konate not far behind them.
06 Jan 2025 00:06:07
I can't agree about Konate, IbizaRed, i thought he was as bad as Trent and too often left TAA one-on-one with no cover. Don’t get me wrong, Trent had a lemon but he also had the whole of the right corner to defend on his own at times.
06 Jan 2025 00:27:45
Tbh Trent looked absolutely dazed and zoned out today. Maybe emotions got to him and drained him knowing it’s his last game vs United - that’s only excuse I can think of for him.
Excuses aside, disappointed in Slot for the first time this season. At 2-1 should have subbed him for Bradley or taken a fwd off for Endo to see out the game.
Not for the first time this year we got outbattled in midfield. Hope not adding some much needed steel in there isn’t going to come back and haunt us.
06 Jan 2025 01:01:27
We couldn't bring on Szoboszlai because he wasn't on the bench.
I don't think he's a midfielder anyway. Like Jones and Elliott, I don't know what his position is because he's neither a midfielder nor offers enough to be a forward.
We need a midfielder alongside Grav and Mac. Jones, Elliott, Szob, Endo etc can all provide cover but none of them have nailed down a position for us yet.
We need some athleticism and/ or discipline in games like the United one because it's not Mac's strength and the others are good enough, for me.
06 Jan 2025 02:03:07
The delusion around trent is crazy. He is a world class passer of the ball and has great vision and that is it. He has no defensive awareness and cannot sniff out danger. People saying he worked his socks off he barely tried to press because whenever he does he gets beaten 1v1. Slot is a great manager and has done well for us so far but that comment about Gravy not being close enough and leaving Trent 1v1 is ridiculous. Best right back in the world can't defend a 1v1? The best right back should be good in a 2v1 especially with the money he is expecting. This isn't the first time we have seen this. Every left winger/ wing back has their game of the season against him. Unless we are on the front foot and dominating the game he is awful. He is not a RB and he isn't good enough for midfield so for the money he wants id rather give it to Di.
06 Jan 2025 07:45:54
Why is anyone surprised by TAA’s display? It has long been known that he is a fantastic player, but not a fantastic defender. Over the years there have been a number of games where better teams targeted the space behind him, and unfortunately he was asleep yesterday. The result? Dalot did his best George Best impression.
Is TAA worth keeping? Absolutely. Is he worth a wage in excess of the combined Alexis and Cody? Absolutely not.
In my opinion the horrifying aspect of him leaving is not the loss of the player, it is the club’s negligence in allowing circumstances to occur where he goes for free.
06 Jan 2025 08:21:51
Trent was the worst, closely followed by Jones the two local lads absolutely stank the place out. But there were plenty others not much better. This game has gone, the players have to look to the Forest and Brentford games. 2 hard away games within a few days of each other. Get their attitude spot on or this lead will disappear fast.
06 Jan 2025 08:36:10
Trent has been excellent defensively at times this season, not sure what some of you are on about. Who knows what's going on in his head right now but folks guessing that he's already checked out to Madrid and that we need to get rid asap are just unbelievable, these must be the same people who said mo was finished and that we should take the Saudi cash, all I can say is be careful what you wish for.
{Ed025's Note - i cant believe what i have just seen on Sky PB, A segment on Sky news highlighting how bad a game Trent had...FFS has this ever happened to a player in the history of broadcasting??, ok he was poor yesterday but that is just targeting the guy and is well over the top...absolutely disgusting imo mate..
06 Jan 2025 09:03:41
@PatrikBurgher, he has been competent defensively for the most part this season, he hasn’t been excellent. Klopp seemed to have been more likely to pick Bradley at the end of last season, and Slot appeared to also favour Bradley at times this season, in a few games, you could see the reasons why TAA was being hooked at vital times and Bradley put on.
As one of the Eds said on another thread, TAA does not seem to have an ideal position in the team, he is too poor defensively to be a reliable RB, his awareness, or lack of it means he isn’t going to be a top class midfielder. He is a ok defender with magnificent passing ability, and if you have the players around him to compensate for his short comings, then he is a huge asset to the team, but if you don’t, then unfortunately he also becomes a defensive liability against the better teams ( which Utd aren’t) .
@Ed025, of course there have been segments on other players poor performance, Foster got slaughtered two weeks ago, Walker also along with other MC players, Rashford has been criticised heavily and I saw a compilation on Sky of his worst moments. So having TAA on after yesterday’s match is nothing more than reporting on a shocker.
{Ed025's Note - i just dont think its right D-day, highlights yes but lowlights is out of order to me, in these days where mental health is a major issue do you think its ok to vilify any player on national media?...well i dont mate..
06 Jan 2025 09:18:20
Ed25, haven't this been done many times before? Everytime Trent had a poor game in the past, they will make sure to highlight every single bit of it. Every pundits will make sure to mentioned it everytime they had a chance. Is it exclusive to Trent only? Who knows. I've seen the best RB in PL history having worst game than Trent, but nothing being mentioned about it.
{Ed025's Note - i just think it was targeting a guy when he is down Mfahmee, and i dont like that mate..
06 Jan 2025 09:23:45
Ed025, he occupies a high level in a performance industry, if he was second choice RB for Hartlepool, there wouldn’t be as much scrutiny, but he isn’t, he is RB for Liverpool and has aspirations to be a B D’or candidate, so when he has a stinker, it is news.
And this is not the first time.
{Ed025's Note - i just think its petty journalism D-day..
06 Jan 2025 09:58:20
You’re right on this ed. We haven’t seen a highlight reel of Foden, Harland etc mistakes. They have just singled out Trent. Totally out of order.
{Ed025's Note - well i think it is Mark..
06 Jan 2025 11:02:04
Iwas at the game yday, with my sin who forecast the result. To single Trent out is ridiculous . Hardly anyone of our team played well yday. Macca was our best player for me. Robbo lost his man several times, including the second goal for Utd. But Trent gets hammered. Yes, sometimes he looks as though he's jogging, but others do too. For me we looked tired . Konate rushed back cos of Gomez injury, Gravenberch looks tired, Trent and Robbo had bad games, we really missed Szoboszlai yday. The press was no where near what it has been. And a real cutting edge upfront too. We need a freshen up. At least 2 players in January, but i won't hold my breath.
06 Jan 2025 11:12:31
If Arnold had made mistakes but at least then tried to put himself about, kick a few United players or clatter Fernandez, then it would have shown he does at least care. But that was a nothing performance. No fight. No passion, nothing. As Thunderbird said. He was barely trying, and that’s being generous.
06 Jan 2025 11:45:35
@Steviep62, you might have been at the match, but did you watch any of it?
TAA was repeatedly caught out of position and gave the ball away cheaply.
06 Jan 2025 14:15:02
Markp08, spot on. They have done this to Trent before a couple of seasons ago, btw. And yet we all wonder why he wants out of the PL.
I am also yet to see a full breakdown of the dreadful defensive performances that Trent's peers like Walker, Trippier or Reece James have served up either.
06 Jan 2025 15:44:40
Because sky isn’t balanced. Never has been. It’s like watching the Utd official channel most of the time.
06 Jan 2025 11:32:40
Ed25, this is not the first time this has been done to trent after a game. In the 21/ 22 season on now TNT sports, we had a CL game vs Milan (we won 2-1 via a Henderson screamer) and after the game, they had the very same thing done to trent with Rio Ferdinand leading the charge.
And just so you know, they don't do these things randomly. I knew guys in the sports photography business with the media in the U. S and one of them said that in these cases, there production meeting before the broadcast about what to talk about and trust me, they already had it down to either big up Trent should he play well. Or slaughter him should he play badly depending on the narrative they need to get clicks and that.
I agree with everything you sad about how much damage that can do to a player BUT have you seen any of that done to Walker, Trippier or Reese James in similar situations? Walker got coked badly by Diaz vs City at Anfield last season. Did you see this happen to him? Big, fat No.
And we all wonder why the kid wants out. Wouldn't you?
{Ed025's Note - i feel its unnecessary pressure on the guy Oli trying to destroy a guy for a story is pathetic imo, but what do you expect from this gutter media in this country..
06 Jan 2025 11:40:55
Aye wild that Ed25 - I've seen Walker for example having shocker after shocker this season and nothing like that at all. Only thing you've seen is highlights of him being beaten for pace, nothing about poor positioning, lack of drive or slow to respond etc, nothing.
Not that I would particularly want to see that, like you said, with players mental health on the line, do we really want to see players absolutely vilified every week like that for a poor performance? Not for me, no matter who they play for.
{Ed025's Note - im with you Bill..
07 Jan 2025 17:59:26
Day yes I did watch the game, yes Trent had a bad game and was caught out of position. So where others and we’re partly responsible for the utd goals. But it’s Trent’s fault. My point was, others had a bad game too and should be blamed. I don’t think Slot got it right either. Then there’s the small matter of utd actually playing well. So yes I did watch the game but try to be fair in my observations.
{Ed025's Note - but Stevie not all of them publicly expressed their wishes to win the Ballon Do,r though mate, i actually agree that it was not all Trents fault but keeping your mouth shut is sometimes a good idea..
