Hi Ed001. I'm looking forward to your match review (as ever) on the game yesterday. Personally, I think this TAA abuse is ridiculous. Trent is a great player and we are lucky to have him. His defending is NOT poor generally and the media view that he can't defend is a joke. Ok, he had a bad game yesterday but that is allowed - and let's be fair - he wasn't the only one (unfortunately) . I am amazed at how many supporters slag him off. He is a great player and seems like a top lad too (from what I understand - bearing in mind I live in Liverpool so you do hear a lot of news about what he does, etc., outside of playing) . Let's win the next few games and everything looks good again.

{Ed001's Note - I hope it lives up to expectations, but if things don't slow down on the sites, it will be a while before it is ready!}

By all means, take your time, Ed01.

And if you can't, you can always send us the match preview of the Liverpool v Southampton match of like, 2 years a go or something, lol.

{Ed001's Note - that's a good idea.}

I miss that review.

I 100% agree with all that said yesterday was a one off because it was and the league table and cups show that.

My most disappointing thing about yesterday was our application and fight. I thought Utd out worked and bullied us.

Only 2 players I remember going in for 50/ 50’s were Elliot and Bradley and they were on the pitch for 9 minutes.

Players will always have bad games but I think the worst criticism a player could get would be lack of effort and I saw that yesterday in the game.

Hopefully a big and positive reaction on Wed with a nice cup game on Sat to rest players for Forrest.

It’s not a one off. Forest was just as bad. Everton last year was even worse. It’s not common but this squad do have these performances in them. No heart, no commitment, lack of effort. Hopefully there aren’t many more this season.
Forest, Brentford, Away in quick succession. Time for row in the dressing room and get everything out in the open, yesterday was unacceptable.

We used to frustrate utd when they were in the ascendancy, we are just on the other side of it now. Bad performance but Slot and the team turned it around well after Forest so I'm hopeful they will do it again. We are still in a good position as many have pointed out.

That’s fair enough Mark and saying it’s a one off was probably incorrect terminology.

We have dropped points this season and of course that’s going to happen. For me it was more the manner in how we performed I’d like to think was a one off.

Slot didn’t look a happy man yesterday and neither did Virg. Perhaps both should keep their emotions in check and be reminded that we are top of the league and CL.

I was at the game and I don’t think enough has been made of the state of the pitch. The water on the pitch caused the ball to slow on passes and constantly passing was left short or over compensated and hit out of play.

Time and again the passing was falling a bit short which meant our players had to scoop it out of their feet or take the extra touch which allowed United to get a foot in and disrupt our rhythm.

You might say “well it’s the same for both teams”, but I think it disrupted our usually rhythmic passing and played into their preferred tactics of long balls in behind our fullbacks.

I would say that as the game went on our players should have cottoned onto the conditions better, eg the pass which Trent played from the right wing, back to our centre half was suicide and fell well short and allowed a united counter attack.

I’m with the opinion that it was a very very bad day at the office, which all-in-all was actually a bit of a let off since arsenal dropped points too.

2 cup games now to sort it right before the forest game and a chance for some fringe players to make a claim for a starting spot.

Also I thought Nunez was quite lucky not to get sent off yesterday. Second half when on a header, he has no eyes on the ball, only looking at the defender and just rams into the United centre half. I’m all for putting yourself about but that just came across as frustration and immaturity. He needs to cut that stuff out as we can’t afford stupidity like that in big games.

{Ed025's Note - the pitch is an excuse rather than a reason Navy, but you are right about Darwin mate..

Good point about the pitch, NK.
The slow pitch is the same for both sides but everyone knows we are better passing team than United. It's just one of those things.
The lack of bite is another good point. But again, that is us. We can press but it wasn't as good as it could be yesterday and United won the midfield battle.
It's not all about us. Things will go against us and teams will outperform us in areas and periods of games.
I'm convinced Slot will bring in a midfield player before too long; one of his midfielders. I get the feeling he's compromised and playing Grav and any two of Mac, Szob and Jones. I think he wants a new body in there with Grav with one from the above three. It'd be Mac for me but I could be completely wrong!

I was a big advocate for Darwin but I'm afraid that I can't see him staying. I think that's it's best for both parties to move him on unfortunately.

06 Jan 2025 18:48:20
Apparently we set a new premier league record of not winning a single tackle in the entire first half.

Navy I didn’t see the pitch as a problem yesterday mate and players on a few occasions actually over hit passes into touch and even Virg ran one into touch from inside his own box when under no pressure.

But what do I know and you could very well be right.

Macca has been immense last 4-5 games. Mom against the rats and def won tackles did some nut megs, broke forward and his passing was good.

06 Jan 2025 19:39:26
@JK I agree about overrunning the ball and over hitting passes but I think that’s also a symptom of the same actually.

Players are putting more on a pass to ensure it gets there and over doing it and hitting it out/ off target. Equally trying to get it out of their feet their trying too hard like we saw with VVD.
