Happy new year to all.

Not one for usually talking about finances and fair play rules but did we not recoup a lot more than the £10 million we spent on Chiesa in the summer, just wondering if we have any funds at our disposal for any additions we feel might be needed to strengthen our chances of winning the Premier league or anything else for that matter.
Personally if whatever money we had was used to sort out the soap opera of the 3 contract situations I'd be ecstatic as I'm happy enough with our squad at present when all fit but it would only take one or 2 injuries to the most important players for us ie Virg, Grav or Mo and we could be in big trouble interested to hear eds/ fans views on the above.

Cheers

If there is money, it’s not going to be spent, we’re doing any one of the following;

(A) keeping our powder dry for the window after the next window after the next window.
(B) assessing our options for the next window.
(C) not taking part in what is traditionally a difficult window.
(D) planning for the summer window after 25/ 26 season has ended, as Hughes believes there’s no rush to add more players.
(E) we’re leaving others to panic buy while we’re still assessing our squad.
(F) assessing the squad over the next three windows before committing any substantial sum of money adding to it.
(G) all of the above.

It gets pretty tiring listening to you Viktor. It must be really hard for you to follow a team at the top of the table and still be so negative! Maybe we will lose a few matches soon, to really give you something to moan about!

I'm not sure any new signings would improve our League position but they are good for morale.

08 Jan 2025 13:26:25
Should always improve and freshen the squad when on top.

08 Jan 2025 13:33:11
We had no problem spending the guts of £40m on two players who don't have much of a use case at current.

08 Jan 2025 13:37:22
Or he transfer window is just a week old, Victor.

08 Jan 2025 14:14:21
"they are good for morale" - not if you're a youngster hoping to get a start!

I'm ambivalent (other than the contracts), just hope Arne gets what he wants in terms of players and timings.

I think we've signed a player or players every window for the last four or five years. It's probably longer but I don't have the time to look back on that. So you're spouting nonsense. Or unless they are £100 million plus you don't count them as signings?

08 Jan 2025 14:50:19
There are obvious areas we have been trying to strengthen for the last couple of windows - DM, LCB and LB. I assume that is still the case.

If there was one signing I could make in January it would be a difficult choice between Baleba or Hincapie. Robbo's drop off and Tsimikas' availability is a big concern at left back, as is the inability to rest Virgil. Hincapie could help there. On the other hand, the reliance on Gravy is a concern with it being clear that Slot doesn't fancy Endo. Baleba would give us an amazing physical option in a number of midfield combinations.

Sadly, I doubt anything happens. The squad is now fully fit, bar Gomez. They will probably feel they have enough to see the season out.

We were top of the league and on for a quadruple this time last year. We chose not to add to the squad as we believed it was good enough to get us over the line.

We know how that turned out.

Endo3, we didn't sign anyone last January. In fact, since Signing Gravenberch on 01/ 09/ 2023, Liverpool have only signed 1 player for the first team and that is Chiesa for £10m and he's barely kicked a ball.

I disagree with the minority of people who are being so overly dramatic about it because our squad is really strong anyway, but I think people have every right to be frustrated. I personally thought we should've replaced Gomez, Tsimikas and Endo in the summer. Gomez has bounced back quite well in his defence since then but If we don't replace any of these players this window then we could come to the Summer 2025 window needing 5 or 6 players. If any of Trent, Salah and Virgil need replacing that is going to be a huge job finding their replacements. So the last thing we need is to also have to worry about replacing 2 or 3 squad players (don't mind if Gomez stays now) that could've been replaced already. We would be wise to sign a LB and a CM this month in my opinion.

JK23 - as soon as Klopp announced his departure, the club was never going to make January signings. So I can understand that one.

The season before however, when the Fab/ Hendo legs fell off, we could have done some business but chose not to. It resulted in us dropping out of the CL places. I am still kinda annoyed about that. Almost as much as Big Jurg not adding some new coaching blood to the backroom staff for 5 years+.

Pelican that’s a very good point mate.

Genuinely looking at the squad on paper it looks good.

3 keepers
4 full backs
4 centre half’s
7 midfielders
6 forwards.

Issue is it’s clear Slot only rates 4 of the midfielders as starters and 5 of the forwards.

Forwards isn’t a biggie. But midfield is.

Zed, I meant the morale of the fans. We need appeasing, don't you know.

It goes without saying that we can and should always look to improve. If a signing or signings can do it then we should do it.
The problem is finding the players that can do that.
I'm stating the obvious but signing no one is preferable to signing the wrong player ?.

@Endo3, For information purposes: Arne Slot signed his first ever Liverpool Player in the Summer when he took over, he signed the Georgia Goalkeeper Mamardashvilli from Valencia, for circa £33 million he joins in this Summer.

Thinking about calling him "Marshmallow", will be easier to spell in the future, we could do with a few more marshmallows we might all "stick together" then?
