To be fair to Hughes, I doubt we were going in for him anyway and in the summer he didn't want to join us so on this occasion I don't think Hughes is to blame but by all means, blame him for everything else ?.

It becomes even funnier when you realise Arsenal don't have a director of football. Yesterday I accused Richard Hughes of doing nothing but it appears that was very generous. Considering "nothing" has just beaten him to his only target.

In fairness- we had the deal done and the lad backed out. I would imagine he was interested in coming to us since but we have moved on. Hughes might be dropping the ball in other areas but not sure he was to blame for this one.

I’m not going to defend Hughes as the jury is well and truly out there.
But on what planet is Zubi to Arsenal his fault? We’d agreed a deal in principle which the player reneged on.
I think he burnt his bridges with us in those circumstances.

Arsenal need a midfielder in the summer as Partey is going (probably due to legal issues I shouldn’t wonder), now if that was us, we wouldn’t replace, we’d just run our existing midfielders into the ground, wonder why we miss out on champions league football, then do a mad panic supermarket sweep of midfielders, before repeating the process again.

But I'll humour you, again: no, Hughes didn't appoint Slot and I didn't say he did. He was one of the team that appointed him. It wouldn't be left to one person at a club like Liverpool. Hughes played a big part in the appointment of Slot though. He is the sporting director and Slot himself said that Hughes wanted the club to bring him in.
