So city agree to sign maramosh and then tie Halland down to a 9&1/ 2 yr contract, this is the sort of contract that should have been offered to TAA being one of our own and in turn would make him a lifer and possibly a club legend, but alas while City continue to shop in Harrods we are counting our pennies to see if we have enough for a tin of beans in Aldi.
17 Jan 2025 10:18:40
We need City to sign Hughes.
17 Jan 2025 10:19:38
Shop? We don’t shop. We monitor the people shopping whilst staring through the window.
17 Jan 2025 10:22:57
Go and support City so if you feel that strongly about it.
17 Jan 2025 10:23:53
Notsozippy, Trent made his debut in 2016 in a League Cup game and has not left the first team since. That is going 8/ 9 yrs now. Also, so cos other people do deals that suit them means we should do the same thing? I don't care what other clubs do cos other clubs don't care what we do. I focus more on my team and what we are doing on the pitch.
Also (an this is new info for me), I did not know Eintracht Frankfurt as a club was the equivalent of Harrods. I stand corrected, apparently.
17 Jan 2025 10:28:44
What happened to City not spending because of the charges?
17 Jan 2025 10:29:55
Two totally different mindsets they want to make history we want to make money.
17 Jan 2025 10:32:09
Haaland has no choice but to stay at City until he’s past his peak. I don’t think it was ever the plan but transfer fees have outgrown PSR and what clubs are willing to spend, and there aren’t as many big players anymore. It’s not like the 2000s where there would be clubs all over Europe queuing up to buy him for circa £50 million
He’d cost 200 and no one would pay that, so he’s stuck there. City giving him a long term contract just protects them from losing him on a free and/ or having to give him another pay rise (ridiculous I know) if wages continue to grow at the stupid rate they are (I think big players getting £1 million a week will be the norm in 5 years time)
17 Jan 2025 10:32:44
City are also on the verge of signing two more players when we constantly hear January is a difficult month to sign players. It’s always about the money.
Pep gets £200 mill to spend when Rodri is injured.
Klopp got Davies Kabak and a pack of chips when VVD was out injured.
Let’s hope Grav and VVD doesn’t pick up another injury between now and end of the season.
17 Jan 2025 10:34:36
Nowt wrong with Aldi, NOTSOZIPPY ?.
And there are pros and cons with ten year contracts.
17 Jan 2025 10:38:39
City are certainly get their business done with minimal fuss. We know exactly what needs to be done in regards signings and contracts but we just window shop.
17 Jan 2025 10:40:46
I agree I understand each club are different
But liverpools movements over the last six years just looks odd to me
Vvd should be tied down salah Trent
I don’t understand the plan or objective of the club
They move like a 10th place club.
17 Jan 2025 10:58:43
Wonder how much Haaland is on . we can't compete with the financial power of City on transfers n wages.
17 Jan 2025 10:58:48
It remains to be seen if Haaland will be the wings to lift City or the anchor that weighs them down. After a brilliant start to the season, he only has 4 goals in 10 starts in the league for City. He is also an extremely limited footballer and needs someone else to create the goals for him. It used to be KdB that does it but with him on the wane, I'm not sure someone will step up. He is still a great goalscorer though so he can refind the form that he had earlier in the season. But if he doesn't, City would find it extremely difficult to move him on especially since it is rumoured that the new contract makes him one of the best paid players in the world currently. Either way, the 9.5 years is a huge risk.
17 Jan 2025 11:03:39
A 9 and 1/ 2 year deal is absolute stupidity. He could do his ACL this weekend and be ruined. He could do a Dele Alli and disappear up his own backside.
No player should be getting more than a 4 or 5 year deal in my opinion. Haaland is nearly totally reliant on his explosive pace/ power and they've contracted him well into his 30's. It's a perfect example how not to run a football club. If you want to see the damage that silly contracts can do to a club, look at the mess Barcelona are in right now, struggling to register players and having to request permission to breach rules.
17 Jan 2025 11:16:13
Oli come on.
In fairness you probably speak about other clubs more than any other poster all whilst telling everyone else how much they shouldn't talk about or care about other clubs.
17 Jan 2025 11:41:25
Jk, as you well know the charges are for transgressions in the past, I’m sure they will have tried to make everything appear above board since then and spend within their means in the present, they did sell Alvarez and haven’t replaced him since. The question is whether they can entice players to come despite facing potential relegation, which doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment. Whatever the case is at this exact moment in time we are in a better place than them, it might not last but there’s no point losing sleep over the future until it’s arrived. The paranoia on here about what might happen is really getting me down.
I’m going to be honest being on this page is pretty depressing lately, it could be any club buying anybody and somebody is going to pile on saying ‘yeah! Hughes is a waste of oxygen! ’…or you have the inevitable four or five posts a day talking about contracts and how incomprehensible the situation is…we get it, the club need a lift right now and the mood isn’t great as we face the anxiety of defending a lead at the top, but would it hurt for people to stop saying the same thing every single day? The hughes jokes aren’t even funny anymore, they’re just tiresome. Okay he hasn’t done anything so far but for the sake of variety and general morale on this page let’s ease up on the monotony of the complaints. It is worth remembering that a ome of us have enough drudgery and heartache in our every day lives to deal with without having to be mired in it every second talking about the football club that we love.
{Ed001's Note - I would worry about the fact you are even bothered about what is said that much that it affects you personally. I won't even remember what is said 20 seconds after I have read it, let alone have my life affected by it.}
17 Jan 2025 11:50:09
City are acting like they know what the outcome of the case is going to be. Perhaps this rush to sign young players by the bucketload is them preparing for a lengthy transfer ban, like Chelsea did before their ban.
17 Jan 2025 12:13:04
Ed, I’m not deeply affected by anything being said on here, it’s just that I very much enjoy coming here and posting every day, but it’s been much less enjoyable lately and that is dismaying on some level (obviously I have a lot more to attend to besides worrying about lfc even if they’re always at the back of my mind lol) . I think we have a lot of intelligent passionate folks on here and I gain a lot from reading what everyone thinks about football, so it’s a bit saddening to me when the tone is so monotonously despondent given how terrible the state of the world is otherwise (maybe it’s not fair to expect this page to be different? )
Also I do think that people who are otherwise not in a good place in their lives mentally or emotionally could react poorly to the atmosphere here sometimes, maybe that’s just me overthinking it and amplifying my own feelings tenfold. Overall I do think this a good place with good natured banter and folks, lately it’s been a downer, that’s all.
{Ed001's Note - I wasn't having a dig mate, I was just trying to say not to let it get to you, but very clumsily as I was distracted. Apologies.}
17 Jan 2025 12:35:36
Spot on FlyPelicanFly.
17 Jan 2025 12:39:20
PatrikBurger, I heard that Hughes is still logging into the Bournemouth spreadsheet thinking it is the Liverpool one. The Dominic Solanke, Jordan Ibe and Brad Smith rows seem to continually trick him.
17 Jan 2025 12:41:05
Got it Ed, thanks for that and everything else, let’s hope we have something to cheer about on the squad front at the end of January.
{Ed001's Note - hopefully mate! Either way, Slot is giving us plenty to be happy about.}
17 Jan 2025 18:00:54
Just to reply to Endo3's comment I have been a loyal Liverpool supporter for over 50yrs mate so not going to turn into a plastic citee fan just cause they can do what they like financially! To Olired, mate I think your missing my point if we had given trent a 4,5 or 6 year deal well before his contract expired we wouldn't be in the rubbishstorm of a mess and risk losing him for nothing and I didn't mean that Eintracht Frankfurt are the Harrods of the soccer world merely that city can buy who they like when they like even with 115 charges hanging over them, whilst we never seem to have a pot to p. in when our managers have got us into fantastic winning positions only not to be backed in the transfer market to help cement and secure that position.
