Just seen Diaz is only on £60k per week and 3 years left. If true the power is with the club and he should be kept with Jota and Nunez moved on.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Apr 2025 12:37:37
Jimmy who in their right mind would buy Jota the way he's playing at the moment?

14 Apr 2025 12:38:48
I like Diaz, he lacks a bit of end product but he’s got good skill, pace and effort. He’s definitely worth keeping for the squad, and better than the likes of Chiesa who doesn’t deserve to be on more money than him that’s for sure.

14 Apr 2025 12:43:09
And somehow we think that Diaz is going to hang around while earning the same salary as Nat Phillips and Tsimikas? There are quite a number of ways to get out of contracts (the famous "back pain" comes to mind), and we've all seen them.

14 Apr 2025 13:13:47
Only my opinion but I think football is almost at breaking point with the wages and inflation.

To go to the match yesterday cost about £300 for me and my son and if I’m being honest it wasn’t edge of the seat entertainment that will live long in memory. The great thing to come out of it was that my team won and we’re now 3 points closer to the title.

On the other hand I could have stayed home and streamed it for free and the great thing to come out of that would be that my team won and we’re now 3 points closer to the title.

There’s already talk that owners want rid of season tickets and premier league football to become the ultimate tourist attraction.

Thats all well and good for the bank balances but as we’re seeing it’s not great for atmosphere.

14 Apr 2025 13:25:37
Is an interesting conundrum. We need a ST, LB for the first XI and some squad players. Hence, to have the funds, we may need to sell him to bolster the squad since he has the most sale value out of him, Nunez and Jota.

On the other hand, selling Diaz will weaken our depth on the left.

I would prefer to keep Diaz one more year before selling him, but if he fancies a move, I would not be mad if we cash in.

P. S. In the scenario that we sell Diaz, I would still try to sell both Jota and Nunez, although I don't know if anyone is interested in Jota.

14 Apr 2025 13:44:45
JK, you're bang on about the atmosphere in the ground and where the game's heading. Owners of big clubs do want it to become a tourist attraction and it's heading that way. I tend to get in the ground early and when I do, for the first half hour I'm the only one there with an English accent, and that's debatable with my Black Country drone! But most of those there have spent loads in the club shop and it's a once in a life time experience. They don't want old blokes like me, who might buy a coffee if I'm feeling flush! But, like you say, JK, it comes at a price, as in my opinion it's had a detrimental affect on the atmosphere. I hope this doesn't make me sound like a xenophobe, because that's certainly not my intention, nor am I.

14 Apr 2025 13:50:16
Watching it on TV yesterday, and for a while now, it’s become more noticeable the lack of atmosphere. While we’re still better than many I really hope the owners don’t push through any plans to reduce season tickets, unless the walk up tickets go to local fans.

I heard recently a supporter at city was having a haircut in the stand while streaming it with the match going on in the background. If that’s true it sort of sums up where footballs at with certain clubs.

{Ed025's Note - yeah JS the local thing has gone mate where you used to support your local team and its all about money now, the fact is that under 6,000 Liverpool season ticket holders have a Liverpool postcode, whereas the likes of Everton have over 25,000..

14 Apr 2025 14:50:40
Reports that the Saudis now looking at Diaz as Vinicius Jr looks unachievable.

14 Apr 2025 14:58:29
Do Lfc fans HAVE to be from Liverpool? Coming from Ireland and spending hundreds whenever i get over for a match i don't really think it matters. More about whether fans add to the atmosphere or just sit there videoing the game on their phone.

14 Apr 2025 15:13:26
The people's game, eh? ?.

14 Apr 2025 15:50:30
Aye JK, the cost is crazy - crazier still when you factor in a flight (from Northern Ireland for me) and overnight stays, even train costs are high

So many people showing receipts online of how much cheaper it is to go to Italy and watch a match - ridiculous that you can fly to Milan, stay a night and watch a match cheaper than you pay for the club you support.

14 Apr 2025 17:28:54
Personally I think no player should be paid more than £25k a week. If fans of every club just boycott every game for a season things would need to change.

14 Apr 2025 17:39:38
Whilst your sentiment is very admirable, Walter, it would never, ever happen, mate.

{Ed001's Note - even if it did, what would happen to the rest of the money? It would just go into the pockets of the billionaires who own the clubs and not give fans any benefits at all. I would rather the players earnt more than club owners.}

14 Apr 2025 17:42:30
If we actually did that, Walter we’d quickly see where the real loyalty lies. I’m all for the idea, it’ll never happen but the constant rise in wages and everything else has to hit a ceiling eventually.

14 Apr 2025 17:43:48
I think the product on the pitch has deteriorated so much too. This possession based game is not for me. Throw in the blatant cheating and inept and possible corrupt refereeing and the game is just such a hard watch now. The arts of attacking and particularly defending are lost. Loving seeing us winning number 20 but I'd rather play or watch golf now that watch the PL.

14 Apr 2025 17:52:38
What I never understand about the atmosphere problem is that surely the Kop is still all/ mostly season ticket holders?

Isn’t that where most of the singing/ chants start? Seems to be whenever I’ve been, but it’s far from constant.

I’m not having a pop at anyone, but isn’t that the main problem?

A mate of mine invited me to a Champions League game in the Stretford end, it was the same there. The odd song every now and again but it was far from constant either. There was one drunk fella shouting at everyone for not singing which was quite funny, you could hear him over anything else.

It seems like all fans, whether season ticket holders, occasional, or tourist fans just aren’t as vocal any more.

I might be wrong, I’ve only been to about 8 games over the past few years. At times during the games it was deafening, at others very quiet. To be honest, I thought at the time that people were just watching the game.

14 Apr 2025 14:01:23
That's a very sad stat, Ed025. I suppose people like me add to the problem because I travel 90 miles. I do at least sing though, when I'm there!

{Ed025's Note - it surprised me to be honest Rome, i know quite a few myself and my lad is one of them..

14 Apr 2025 14:21:40
I’d happily take a few tickets and push that up to 6002! That’s crazy, and I’m even surprised at the Everton number. I would have thought it’d be about 60/ 70% local for both clubs, with over 1m in the city region those figs are really low.

{Ed025's Note - yeah JS i would have guessed in that region mate, it just shows you how much its changed in recent years, a lot will be down to cost i imagine..

14 Apr 2025 18:54:49
Decent atmosphere in the Kop yesterday ?.

14 Apr 2025 18:37:46
All sporting events should be like the Masters, no mobile phones. I would imagine people would get more excited and into the matches if they were actually watching it and not filming the games.

{Ed025's Note - spot on Mac..

14 Apr 2025 21:28:33
Fans want the most expensive players on the biggest salaries.
Where's the money going to come from? Ticket prices ain't going to drop, neither are shirt prices.
And binning mobile phones for the match duration would be a good idea, but hard to implement.

14 Apr 2025 21:33:16
I think a lot of the local people simply cannot afford to attend the matches I know I can't go. Rather spend my money on my kids and treat them.
In financial terms it is very lucky we have such a high reached following to help fill the stadium and get the money into the club.
If I had my way less prize money less incomes less wages and no more trying to copy pep and this nonsense style of play.
I might be a grumpy negative old git but I actually preferred football when utd was dominant in the early 90s. Better football and football was for everyone back then.

14 Apr 2025 23:45:35
Part of the finance we raise is because we are a global club with a huge fan base (470m+) . Make it local support only and we wouldn't be winning trophies like we are now.
The price for that is you can't get a season ticket and it's almost impossible to buy any in the ballot.
You can only really get them on reseller websites at £400 a pop (x 4 if you take the family) .
There is no real fix for it unfortunately. Even building a new 100k seater stadium wouldn't completely fix the situation as there are so many of us fans wanting to watch.

14 Apr 2025 23:52:39
@Neg, I’d love it to go back to what it was in the old days. Match of the Day on Saturday night, Sunday a game from the previous day on Granada. Sports night with Coleman on a Wednesday night with highlights from the weekend and the only live matches shown were the FA Cup Final, the European Cup Final, if there was an English team in it and England’s international matches.

Of course you could get into most matches by turning up and buying a ticket on the day and those that were there actually wentyou watch the match. It’s a shame that the way the game was, from a spectators point of view, is becoming an ever distant memory and has been replaced by a bunch of ex-footballers who, shall we say, aren’t the sharpest tools in the box.

15 Apr 2025 05:16:33
Poor guy, the cost of living crisis must really be hitting Lucho hard.

15 Apr 2025 07:16:59
Re: the postcode thing.

If you’re born and raised in Liverpool but through education and/ or hard work or family reasons, you end up moving out of the city, I’d still consider Liverpool as “my local team”.

Not that postcode matters at all, but I think the postcode argument is facetious for that reason.
