If people don't like Trent because he's not great at defending and gets caught out of position a lot then I can't see how you'd want him replaced by frimpong who has the exact same habits?

He's barely even played as a defender for Leverkusen anyway. Mostly played as a very attacking winger.

Not saying he's a bad player he's clearly not, but if defensive solidity is what you want you don't then pick another player who is very rarely in position and gets beat one on one all the time.

Easy. Flexibility. RB is not a priority, and we seem to like Bradley as RB. But buying a player for around 35million is hard to do, especially one that could cover, or start, for RB and Right winger.

Also, his profile helps to change tactics during the game.

It seems like a shwred signing.

Plus he's homegrown which makes it a no brainer.

I have to admit to having doubts about his defending, but then the previous incumbent is hardly Maldini. Frimpong is one of the best attacking full backs in Europe and he’s evidently very keen to join. I think Slot can iron out his issues.

He is excellent value given his skill set, experience, desire to come and relationships with other players in the squad. Bradley is an excellent player but he likes to come inside and underlap into the box, frimpong likes to go outside and cross or cut the ball back into the box, he has elite pace and he is excellent taking defenders on one on one. He offers something very different from the other players in our squad given he's a wide player who does the most damage staying wide, plus he offers goal threat. If he cost 50 mill plus then I would say he might not be worth it, but at the price his release clause is he would be an opportunistic purchase if there ever was one. I'm sure if slot wants to bring him in he already has a very clear idea of how to convert him into a full back in a four man back line or play him further forward to rotate with mo.

Yeah, agree with D_f and RS. Nevada, I would agree with you if he is being bought only to be our first choice RB. However, he is a rotation option for both Mo and Conor. Conor, Mo or Trent couldn't cover both RW and RB to a decent standard but Frimpong can.

Interestingly, finances aside, I could see us buying BOTH Hato and Kerkez for defence. Hato, more traditional defender, could be used along with Frimpong where attacks are more down the right, conversely Kerkez could attack down the left whilst Bradley is a bit more defensive on the right. Hato can also rotate into CB and Frimpong into RW.

Slot shows he likes to trust a smaller group of players, so positional flexibility is key.

In fairness he hasn't been ASKED to play RB at Leverkusen, and he can't be much worse than Trent defensively. Think another good point is that he would bring some much needed pace to the side.

13 May 2025 18:37:11
I don't think it matters what fans want.

It’s what Slot and the transfer team want that counts defensively solid or not.

13 May 2025 18:44:39
If Romano and other fringe sources are the primary sources I would still be a bit wary as that could be agent noise. I would wait for Ornstein or Joyce to confirm more.

13 May 2025 19:00:47
Daft signing if it happens imo. Yeah he may be destroying the German league as an attacking full back but he can't defend, reminds me of Kyle Walker tbh. Recovery pace covers the fact he not good defensively.

As for anyone saying he would be cover for Mo and offers flexibility, give over ?.

That being said, its not my choice to make and I will get behind whoever is brought in. RB ain't a priority LB and CF are. I would even say we need 2x CFs because the 2 we have are rubbish and don't fit Slots way.

13 May 2025 19:51:52
This lad can cover 3 positions and it looks like he is first choice and actually wants to come. HG as a bonus it’s a no brainer.

13 May 2025 20:18:29
Frimpong is just a Liverpool fan and his dreams are about to come true.

13 May 2025 20:24:38
I’d put the £35m towards the striker, left back and centre midfielders we need and use Gomez to cover right back.

13 May 2025 21:21:34
At the end of the day the club seemed to want to keep Trent. So that suggests to me that we value attacking outputs from that position and flexibility. We already have Bradley so it would make sense to bring in a more attack minded player. For that price, his talents, his flexibility, that he is homegrown, it’s just makes too much sense.

Also, is it not possible for people to make points without hyperbole? LOL Frimpong gets beaten all the time!? Lol.

13 May 2025 21:54:26
Kaiser, Ornstein has said that Frimpong is keen, has relatively low wages and Liverpool are the only club advancing on signing him. I think this will happen.

14 May 2025 03:35:03
I get what people are saying regarding attacking attributes there's no denying it. That's why xabi swapped him to right wing - because his defending is suspect.

Just seems odd that for best part of a year people have moaned about Trent's defending and now want to get a replacement who's passing and crossing is worse, defending is the same. The only thing that's an improvement is he's faster.

Personally I think the money is better spent on a centre back, striker and left back.

If frimpong is coming then I can see either a formation change to a 352 to accommodate him better or for Salah to move inside and jerry to take his spot as a more traditional winger to feed Salah.
