What does everyone think the future holds for Curtis Jones? I've been saying he'll be a super player for us since he was 18, but I worry now that with Wirtz coming in, he'll be behind Wirtz, MacAllister and Szoboszlai meaning he'll probably never really be viewed as key player for us, more as a squad player.
He often frustrate me when I watch him play as technically, he is brilliant and he's also very strong but the problems of holding onto the ball too long still remain.
He also seems to be someone that needs to play regularly to get on form rather than dipping in and out the team.
What does everyone think?

He is and always will be a squad player. I'd happily keep him around as I do think that he is not bad cover but he is a step down from Grav, Macca and Szobo and as you say will only be further down the pecking order if and when Wirtz signs. A bit like Elliot, I'd keep him around but would not begrudge him moving to find more first team opportunities if that's what he wanted.

He's a good squad player. You can't have 25 superstars. Jones has played RB, DM, CM, AM, SS and LW all to a pretty similar level; which is admittedly only above average, but he can plug gaps for injuries and keep the starters on their toes. You need players like that. He's a Milner/ Endo type player.
You don't push out players like that unless they want to go. He'd go in goal if you asked him to.

Couldn’t agree more TBB. Unfortunately for Jones he’s incapable of learning. He was told by Klopp that in order to play he needed to pass the ball, he considers himself the best on the ball so he won’t give it to team mates. Never sees a first time ball, plays with his head down and kills attacks with players committed forward when he loses the ball. Good squad player, no more than that until/ if he becomes more of a team player with the ball.

I like Jones and I think he is worth keeping around as a rotation option, homegrown, covers multiple positions and is a pretty decent player. I don't think he will ever become a nailed on starter for us so we might see him move on for game time eventually.

Can't agree with the assessment that he is incapable of learning, he is a very different player now than when he first came in the team, not sure why folks can't see this? He plays for the team and carries out instructions, and few can keep the ball on the team like he can. He needs consistent minutes and a run of games to maintain his levels, though, and those levels can at times be very high, as he demonstrated against Chelsea. I would not want him to leave unless he asked to go.
{Ed025's Note - i say sell him and use the £4m towards a striker..

He’s bang average if he wasn’t Scouse he’d of been sold years ago!

Jones debate has been done to death on here! I think we keep him, he is versatile and English and a good squad player. He wants to play for us and h is not someone we will ever build our team around, not every player needs to be a world beater.

I said a few seasons ago that players like Origi, Jones and Gomez are fortunate to be at a club like Liverpool.
Origi has left and proven he isn’t good enough even for Milan. I think the same with Jones and Gomez but not.
Elliott will have a good PL career if he gets the right club.

LOL Ed025!???.

He is frustrating.
Holds onto the ball for too long, his instinct is to pass back rather than forward. Constantly reminds me of Lallana
A couple of seasons ago he really felt like he was progressing but I can’t remember if it was an injury or that weird sending off against spurs but something forced him out of the team and since then he’s regressed.

Jones isn't going to ask for a move to become a regular for any team when he's a scouser and at arguably one of the best clubs in world football. Do I think he's ever going to be a regular starter. absolutely not I think he's below average and should of gone 2 or 3 years ago. Find myself saying the same every season. Make or break for Jones this season. And never improves or excels. Squad player fine but there are better squad players out there.
{Ed025's Note - i think that was said about TAA Magico..

As a player for us you’ve got to be the very best in your position. He just won’t get to that level unfortunately.

I’d make him vice captain. More responsibility.

But as a squad player for us, I like him. He can cover several positions, won't cost a lot in wages, loves the club and counts as both HG and CT. There's several subs in one here for that reason.
Plus Slot has used him in 33 of the 38 EPL games this season - 19 starts and 14 from the bench.
I also saw an article earlier that said we may keep Harvey as we are potentially losing so many attackers. Again, I would support that. Not because I think he will replace Wirtz, but because he is a decent option from the bench, can play in a few positions, would bleed for the club and is both CT and HG.
