So sky sports viewing figures were down 10% and TNT 17% last year due to "the title race being over too early. "
Who really pays the big bucks to the PL and the players wages? I'll let you guess.
So they have admitted that it's in their interest for it to be a closer race. With streaming the future and billions at stake does that make decision making / VAR open to abuse?

1jj, I fully agree. It will be really interesting to see if these figures affect how games will be officiated next season cos what Sky and INT are saying is that if a team walks the league, that's bad for their ratings.
And we all know that the higher the drama, the higher the entertainment, the higher the ratings and then, the more money the broadcasters make. So will games now be officiated in order to ensure more drama, entertainment and higher ratings? Uncomfortable conversations, IMO.

Where there’s that level of money, there’s corruption. I’m convinced that the PGMOL is not there just to officiate games but to engineer an outcome.
There are too many powerful people that stand to make too much money (or lose too much money) for them not to have some kind of control on the outcome.

Viewing figures have gone down due to the cost of watching on sky and the cost of living going through the roof.
Throw in the ease of steaming games as well and there’s the answer.
People can’t afford to watch games it’s as simple as that.

Ever thought viewings are down as the football on offer is a bit crap nowadays played by a bunch of overpaid lads with no personality. That's my take anyway.

Probably just more people getting dodgy boxes.

Utter nonsense. IMO.

If this is true then it is very sad. I could as well stop watching football.

Maybe everyone is using Amazon sticks these days.

It maybe me, but the terminology changed, the phrase We are entertainers, clubs and players etc have used this term.
Less and less the Professional athlete/ sports person terminology is used.

Austerity is biting most people. 60% of festivals went down, globally last year, the sale of luxury goods are falling, as are holiday sales. Sky sports is another luxury item that costs too much for many.
Welcome to the times we live in, this is not some anomoly cause we walked away with the title early in the year.

Attendances are higher now than they've been for donkey's years. Check our gates back in the 80s, they were mid 30k some games. The glory days?
11 Jun 2025 21:26:27
So it's corrupt and we won it?
Do we get another asterisk? ?.

JK23 gave the correct answer.
Subscription price + stagnant wages = increased move to piracy.
It's funny how the streaners didn't learn from the cable collapse of the late 90s and are doing the exact same thing again.

It'd depend on what the figures mean.
If Sky and TNT customers are being counted then they are still subscribing. I have them but I don't watch every game.
If it's more about the general public, would they know how they watched it? Would people be as open about how they watched it?
How would pub figures be used?
I think we need to know a lot more before creating another conspiracy.
