Any game we lose I'm disappointed but it's August. We're warming up for a long season. Congratulations crystal palace.
Few things for me that stick out. Virg all through pre season games and today has made several mistakes. I'm hoping these will be long forgotten mistakes. Jones isn't a 6, does not read danger before it happens.
Isn't on the level to challenge macca or sobosli either. I'll reiterate he's a lucky boy to be in the squad given how ruthless we've been this window with the sales of players. If he wasn't homegrown, offers would be listened to. Good squad filler but that is all. We've a very good team.
The midfield isn't great. At best it's very good but it lacks real pace and physicality with everyone fit. Sobs our best Central midfielder at the club imo though I think slot ranks macca above the rest. Sobosli has it all to be a worldclass 8. Kerkez and frimpong defensively are not great. We knew that, kerkez however will hopefully be like robbo and flourish with his all around game. Frimpong is a good attacking player.
Defensively he's OK but physically and in the air, he's very weak. Hence why I imagine a fit bradley claims the rb spot in most games. Wirtz and etitke in moments showed really lovely ability and feet. Gravenberch once again will be vital in that midfield.

Ekitike was comfortably our best player today. That’s pre season over, hopefully there’s enough in the legs now to start the season strong and we’ll only know if it’s been a good one if we win Friday.

Sobs is not our best 8 at the club mate far from it there’s a reason we signed wirtz, he’s on a par with jones ability wise but can is a good runner which can be useful in certain games. Macca is levels above anyone in the midfield and Gravenberch is class too.

Virg had a really poor game. Lazy leg for the penalty and tried to play offside on his own for their second. Palace turned up for a final at Wembley and we turn up for a pre-season game. Not too concerned but a bit of a worry how we dropped off after an hour. Palace looked way fitter for that last half an hour.

Sobosli has every pass in his locker. He's physically stronger and also quicker than macca. Maccas performed better and scored more goals but sobosli was asked to play a different role to what really suits him. Which is an 8.

Szobo was diabolical. Again a good runner, but tried to be too cute in possession and lost ball a few times. Jones is nothing more than a squad player for me. Endo starts before him for me. Grav and Mac were sorely missed from the offset. Without Isak we still feel light up front and we need an additional attacker if Chiesa goes and Slot isn’t willing to throw Rio in.

Szoboszlai and Jones are not on the same level QOSR, as much as I like Jones, Szoboszlai is a level above and a lot younger with a higher ceiling. Jones is a decent squad player and I'm sure if there was an upgrade available for a decent fee then I'm sure he would be replaced. I'm happy either way as Jones will play for the shirt.

I think the issue with our midfielders is they have a phases in games where they look at a really high standard, then suddenly drop their standard massively. This is sometimes during first halves or second halves, there’s no trend to when it actually happens. It just means there’s no really consistency with them like there was with hendo, fab and gini.
Szobo started the game really well but then got really sloppy. Jones is and always was a decent squad player, he will never be a starter for me unless something massively changes, I don’t think he’s as useless as some make him out to be though, I think he’s a good utility player but I worry during times where he’s a regular starter. Szobo, Wirtz, Macca and Grav are all better than him and Elliot is better going forward than him. Jones role is similar to lallana towards the end of his time at Liverpool.

According to stats jones had 100% pass completion and still to my mind had zero impact on the game. I would imagine this will be Jones season to prove himself or face the axe next summer.

Szoboslai is a good passer? Only on a set piece, in open play he’s bang average, Maca is one of the players in our team who is call world class he’s our best creator now Trent has left.
