Hi Ed001 and posters,
It's starting to look like Slot might be here to stay, not exactly what I was hoping for, but if that's the case, we've got to get behind him heading into the new season.
My big concern is whether he's willing or able to make the changes needed. My concern is that he will stick with the same approach and we will struggle again.
Do you think he will make any changes? And if so, what would you do to help him take us to win the major trophies again? Have you seen anything recently, anything positive for us fans to get excited
Cheers

I just hate watching us play. And I hate the fact I don't look forward to watching us play. We were so lucky with Klopp. Even when we were rubbish I'd stay and wait to see his post match interview. It was always guaranteed to be a highlight. Now I turn off as soon as the game is finished. I don't plan my day around the match any more. I just don't care as much.
And I hate that the football that is being served up has robbed me of my passion. I really wish we don't qualify for the Champions League because this season does not deserve to be rewarded in any way. It's incredible we're in the top 5. And it's not just us, the standard of this league has dropped so much. Next season is going to be even worse.

Pace in wide areas and a midfielder that can pass the ball into Wirtz and the forwards.
01 May 2026 18:08:56
And also play rb.

Flidby, agree ? bar the last paragraph, is still want us to succeed. But you're absolutely right, my life used to revolve around our fixtures and now I don't look forward to watching us. That's never happened in the 35 years I've supported us. ? The football is awful.

As mentioned before, we have to play to Wirtz's and Isak's strengths. We have limped along with an unbalanced side with no real direction, and that touch of magic from Mo has sadly waned.
Some steel in midfield, speed and width from wingers, and a solid RB would be a start. Gakpo looks like the odd man out, but could be used through the middle until Ekitike is back.

I don't have to get behind anybody. Least of all, Slot.
If Slot does stay, the situation will be dire by November, and it will be another season lost because of a very poor administration.
Because of extended European family, I have other options. I can't be doing with Slot.

To back Slot is unforgivable. It means not only are you condoning that mediocrity is acceptable, but you believe that the man who's killed our academy, has destroyed the atmosphere in our stadium, and has made every player we have worse.
And you don't care about the people who make this club special, the fans! It's so depressing. I'm not even sure it would hurt as much to lose to Utd! Don't get me wrong, it hurts, but I'm kinda expecting it.

I had previously thought Slot would go by mutual agreement, with him wanting to return home to Holland, which would also suit the club as well, but I'm beginning to think Slot will be here next season, with all the signs that it's going to be the case.
Purely guessing, I wonder, has Enrique giving LFC encouragement he would be willing to move to LFC maybe next summer, and they go ahead with Slot at the helm for now. If Slot gets back on track, happy days. If not, pull the pin and Enrique in.

Oh no, we are going to lose Yuri, devastated is an understatement.

Im 100% certain that Slot has gone at the end of the season. I dont need ITKs or journalists to tell me what iv seen, that this season has been horrendous, not a blip, just bad management n the players look clueless n bored. So there is nooooo way thats the ppl running the club are happy with it; they surely can't be that incompetent. He doesn't even want to stay, the fans are bored to tears.
Do they think he can suddenly turn it around n play good football n challenge for the title? In 3 months they'll be unrest in the stands n we will get an interim manager, n we will be back to square 1 like we was bfr Klopp came in. Just get rid of him at the end of the season bfr the s*** hits the fan.

Genuine question, do people really see Enrique moving to one of the big English clubs at his age? He's older than Guardiola, and just say, Digger is right, and he was to move next year, he would be older than Jurgen was when he retired.
That's a lot of stress to take on at that age, a lot more stress than hoovering up the league easily every year in France. I know theoretically he could go on for years like Ancelotti or Hodgson, but just don't see it out of any of Klopp, Pep or Enrique.
01 May 2026 19:26:34
It does not matter who we buy, if Slot is still in charge, because if you keep giving players 2/3 days off a week, it won't work if you're playing twice a week. The main players will maybe be ok, but anyone coming in will be miles off.
01 May 2026 19:41:23
I am behind the team and the players but I'm not behind this manager. Unless he does a 180 in tactics which he's too stubborn to do, then I'll continue to call out the fraud.

I would actually love at this stage to see a record of the days off at the club over the season and see how it compares with other clubs. Me personally, I don't have a clue what days the players get off and whether it's more/less than other clubs, but I'm willing to bet no one else on this site knows about the runnings of the team either.
It's taken on a life of its own on here over the last few months. I would actually love to see if it's justified or not.

Other than the usual group of simps who adore Slot round here, it's interesting that another of his fans who is desperate for him to stay in post is none other than Man United super fan Gary Neville, and the only reason for that is that even he can see Slot is only going to take us further down the table the way he has us playing, so of course he's happy to see us fall off of our perch again.
Slot is just going to serve up the same steaming turd next season, there simply is no reason to think any different. This is how Slot likes his teams to play.

Unfortunately, all fingers point to Slot staying at the moment unless something changes between now and the end of the season. I believe the breakdown in talks with Alonso to be the core reason. My biggest fear is that Slot will be given false credit for improvements next season despite a lack of change to his approach and will be given an extension. And that those improvements will come from Wirtz settling, Isak's return and new squad additions this summer.
If Slot stays and fails to improve things, then we're back to square 1 with no managers available to replace him, and the laptop gurus debating whether or not Stevie is a suitable interim again.
They'll have wasted an entire year because they didn't have the balls to make the call when they should have, and we'll have missed out on massive opportunities like Alonso etc...
The number of days off being given to players is definitely more than average. Slot is aware and has been questioned on it before. He has no issues discussing it, and he believes the amount of rest they're given is key to their availability and performance. Slot and Peeters were also known for this at Feyenoord, even pulling players out of certain sessions on an individual basis if the data showed they were running a risk of fatigue.
01 May 2026 22:06:13
Once we improve next year I honestly couldn't give a duck who gets the credit. It must be sad to worry about a manager getting it. Hopefully, next year we're back challenging, and on here can be a more friendly United fanbase.
01 May 2026 22:10:09
Genuine question, Chewy, because you seem to know a bit about training, fitness etc. Would it not be common at clubs these days with sports science n all to pull players out of certain sessions on an individual basis if the data showed they were running risk of fatigue or im guessing, injury?
01 May 2026 22:51:20
@Jimjim, you are, in my opinion, 100% wrong in saying that the special thing about the club is the fans. Your opinion misses the point entirely about what's special about the club.
01 May 2026 23:22:30
Florian, definitely not uncommon for players to be pulled from specific sessions, usually you would see it more so in relation to individual situations, often relating to injuries or the prevention of but yes, it does happen with fatigue too. My point is not that what they're doing is entirely out of the norm, it's that it's being done to a level not of the usual standard.
Too much rest can be just as detrimental as over training. It's like cold-starting a Ferrari and immediately pushing it to its limits on lap 1.
01 May 2026 23:48:11
Ok fair enough, Chew. But would the people deciding this not be absolute experts in their field, to have got to that level? Surely, even at a top team in the Eredivisie, you would have to be in the top few percent in your field. Again, I'm ignorant on this score, so I could be wrong.
02 May 2026 05:59:01
It's impossible to me that Slot is here next season. I think he'll be gone as soon as the season is over because it's unthinkable that he could be allowed to stay.
That's said, he's been obviously failing since December so I can't imagine why he's been allowed to remain in charge as we fail out of ever competition.
If he is here next season, I'm going to take a break from watching because it's not worth my time to hope each week we won't be boring, slow, out-worked, and deservedly drop points for another season.
There is no hope with Slot.

Anybody can study for and pass exams. Sure, it takes a lot of hard work to get anywhere with it once you've passed, but it doesn't mean you're living what you studied. It's a lot easier to study the fitness levels of elite athletes than it is to go out and become one. I've seen many a fitness coach not practice what they preach. I'm not saying Peeters doesn't. I've no idea what he does in his spare time. He could be running ultra marathons. I'm just giving one example of how easy it can be for somebody in the industry to fall short.
And there's levels too, as you know. Feyenoord's best player could be Liverpool's worst, in fact 99% of Eredivisie players probably wouldn't make it in the Prem, hence why they're not in it. Same goes for conditioning. What might have worked in the Eredivisie is by no means guaranteed to work in the Premier League, it's faster, more intense, more physically demanding in every way, there's more games and a tighter schedule.
Peeters' programming is not standard. We know that, there's been lots of talk about it over the last 5 years. Now, after a season under this alternate programming, we have almost an entire squad of players who, by the manager's own admission, were not fully fit 6, 7, 8 months into the season. Doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together. The Lead Physical Performance Coach has implemented a programme that we know is heavily focused on reducing intensity and volume in an attempt to improve player availability, and now our players are unfit. You'd have to be thick as 2 planks not to see the connection.
