Hi all,
Not a rumour as such, but I spent the last week in Frankfurt and got talking to some German guys, some Dortmund fans and some Schalke 04 fans, season ticket holders.
After the Klopp lovin I asked about Alonso and they all said he was exceptional at Leverkusen.

Not to shoot the messenger here, but if anyone needs confirmation on the merits of Alonso's achievements at Leverkusen, they really should do their own research. They really were some remarkable results with a team that had no business winning anything.
Much like Klopp took players who weren't serial winners and made them exactly that, Alonso made winners out of players who weren't exactly world beaters before joining Leverkusen.

He took over a team in the relegation zone and won the first league title in their history. A comparison would be De Zerbi winning the title with Spurs next season. Even at Real Madrid, he was sacked with a 70% win rate, that's unheard of.

Seems to me to be a romantic aspect to an ex-Liverpool player coming back to coach the club, which is mythologising his achievements. I can see an element of 'be careful what you wish for'.

For some reason Ron thinks Alonso plays exactly the same football as Slot, which is crazy seeing as Slot doesn't have a style.
For me, I just hope Alonso will do the fundamentals first, get the running and pressing harder all across the pitch and doing those hard yards!

I don't want Alonso but that's just based on my opinion of the football his teams play - similar to Slotball.
At the end of the day I don't know which manager will be the most successful, it's just based on subjective viewing.
Whoever it is, I'll be right behind them from the start.

Germany is a farmers league 99% of the time, unless we are talking about Alonso and Wirtz achievements there, and then the F word is banned.

People keep spouting 'farmers league' without context. A farmers league for Bayern, maybe. In the last 15 years, they have won 13 titles. The other two titles? One is won by Klopp's Dortmund and the other one is won by Alonso's Leverkusen. That's, for me, pretty impressive.

And some will go to any length to cover over his deficiencies.
If he's so good he would have succeeded in Spain. He failed to get the players to buy into his methods. Whatever you think of the players, he failed.
Secondly, he plays slow build up, patient football, and many have tried that in the PL and many have failed. Whether it succeeds or fails, it's not exciting to watch.
