Can someone who knows actually say for sure if David Ornstein is reliable? As in the past he seems to be spot on & he is stating that we want to help slot in the summer window with 1/2 wingers.
11 May 2026 21:13:17
He is unfortunately.
11 May 2026 21:16:54
He's also reporting Chelsea in for Alonso and he's open to the idea.

David Ornstein reports what the club wants him to report. The bigger question is whether your own club enjoys gaslighting you.
11 May 2026 21:31:07
I've always considered Ornstein to be a reputable journalist.
11 May 2026 21:36:06
It should be wanting to help Liverpool and not Slot.
Cheers.

He's a club mouthpiece. Pinch of salt.
11 May 2026 21:38:52
He is.
11 May 2026 21:44:51
He says what Edwards wants to say, smoke and mirrors.
11 May 2026 21:48:48
ArneSlop, he's not a club mouthpiece, that's BS.
11 May 2026 22:21:31
Rome, he very much is a club mouth piece.
11 May 2026 22:26:29
He was reliable up until about 2 years ago. Now he's just an upgraded James Pearce.

I think most of these journos will report things for clicks, but nothing definitive until it's done.
So, him saying Alonso is Chelsea's first choice and he's open to a move to the Premier League leaves loads of room for interpretation. He's not definitively saying Alonso is interested in going to Chelsea but he's implying it because he knows he'll get clicks.
It's like one of those things on news websites where the headline is 'Liverpool keeper of 7 years to leave the club' so you instantly think of Ali, click on the article and it's a 14 year old kid who's been at the club since he was 7.
It's all about the clicks these days.

Indeed, @Slot. Him saying Chelsea have an eye on Alonso doesn't mean a damn thing concretely. It doesn't mean they are interested, nor does it mean even Xabi is interested in going there either. It is open to whatever people want to think.
At the end of the day, we will all be here to see what happens.
Only then, we will know who has been truthful and who has been gaslighting us. At the end of the day, were Slot to go, the club would not want that out now, so the Ornstein stuff about Xabi and Chelsea could also be a swerve to have fans look at the shiny object over there, as well.

He is reliable when it comes to sharing information the club is not so worried about, like transfer targets. But, in times like this, when the club is desperately trying to control the narrative, he operates as a mouthpiece for the club. That's how these relationships work. These reporters don't get thrown a bone for nothing; the club expects the favour to be returned when needed.

Ornstein is one of the most reliable journos out there. However, I do remember him being wrong on the Isak thing. He repeatedly downplayed our interest, while Carra (and a few other ITKs) were adamant that we will get him. But that's about the only time I have seen him to be misguided. Let's hope this is another of those times.
12 May 2026 03:46:45
Ornstein could comment that Dagenham & Redbridge would like Alonso too and he wouldn't be wrong.
12 May 2026 07:20:07
He's reliable but don't know how reliable he is on Chelsea rumours so. ?♂️
12 May 2026 07:42:36
Always a shame to lose players but a 14-year-old that's been here for 7 years is even harder to take.
Do we know why Slot didn't have him in the first-team squad, and was it Hughes or Edwards that sold him?
If it was funds related then let's just increase ticket prices a few hundred pounds a game.
Fans can afford it.
Not even winning the XG trophy will paper over this crack.
