West Ham United v Liverpool - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

04 Dec 2025 21:52:17
{Ed's Note - Ed001 has posted a new article entitled, West Ham United v Liverpool - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

04 Dec 2025 22:12:09
Good read as always, Slot seems to be quite happy waiting for the sack, which can't come soon enough. For all the managers faults the disrespect he shows Chiesa and Endo infuriates me.

Agree7

04 Dec 2025 22:14:28
Agree with you, Ed. The perf. was just "meh" and rather than for us to up the tempo, we just played to their level. I think Slot was just happy with the 3 points esp. having experienced the two battereing vs PSV and Forrest before hand.

As for WH and effort, have you seen their game vs Utd that just ended? Had they shown anywhere near as much industry and determination against us esp. with the wretched way Slot has the team playing, not sure we would have beaten them.

Agree3

04 Dec 2025 23:27:56
AAR91, he doesn't disrespect Chiesa and Endo. They are just not good enough to be regular starters. And it's not just Slot. If he gets sacked and a new manager comes in, one of the first things he will do is sell Chiesa and Endo in the first available window.

To be fair @Oli, I see the WHU comparison slightly differently. At the outset I would say we have ranged between very poor and average most of the time this season but ….

Given West Ham came away from the United game with a point it could be that even though we are nowhere near our best we actually did a reasonable job in stoping them playing, something United couldn’t quite manage. Similarly with Sunderland, they are this year’s surprise package and, whilst we were poor overall, particularly in the first half, having watched the game again, Sunderland were reduced to just hoofing the ball as far as they could at times in the last 10 minutes. Of course we should have done better but we did have them under pressure towards the end.

I suspect if we had won a couple more games or drawn a couple of the losses there might have been a slightly different perspective to our last two results.

For mr, we are a long way from where I’d like us to be but at least I’m starting to signs that a team is emerging. I don’t think Slot is the managerial answer and I’d be relieved to see him go but I do believe that there is an awful lot of talent and potential in the squad.

On a specific note, Konate has had his two best games of the season since Joey G has been picked at right back. Joe is an out got Konate to release the ball which has settled his nervousness no end and, if it carries on he might start playing better on a regular basis.

Apologies all if I’m sounding optimistic 😉.

Ed, great write up as usual, but do you not think the Van Dijk passing sideways is what Slot wants him to do or us it something else?

West Ham were unbeaten in 3 before playing us including drawing w Bournemouth and beating Newcastle. So going there and winning as comfortably as we did we have to be happy with. We've been here a couple of times this season tho and just as the hope sets in Slot reverts to type.

We caught West Ham at a bad time for them with the news of one of their heros had passed away ( rest in peace Bonzo) Billy Bonds.
So taking something out of that game well we as a club ķnow all about loosing people.
The performance was not great but we managed two goals and we were equally as poor v Sunderland so to say it is improvement is a glass half full in my opinion we are not improving we are in decline and it was very obvious at the last several games of last season even though we won the league . I think this is when Arne started to try develop this style of play and it did not work straight from the get go and has not worked since.

If anyone old enough to remember Paisley switching to 3 center backs if i remember rightly we played Ipswich who were a very good side and we lost 1-0 after the game Bob was asked about the change in system and he replied we tried it and it did not work so we will put it away for another day. He new it would not work went back to 442 and we went on to win the league again. So Arne take note of one of the best ever managers in English and European football and learn from the best and dump this useless system before it dumps you . YNWA.

Quick clarification for Ed025: I do not endorse the manager of IKEA Warrington for the Liverpool job. I don't even park on the same side of the car park as him.

I’m sure he’s a lovely man with a powerful lanyard, but let’s keep our standards a little higher than Aisle 14, Bin 7. I have bitterly observed this man’s flaccid interpretation of the role and leave a (limited) list of transgressions below:

1) Stores Allen keys in a jam jar like they’re cutlery.

2) Calls anti-tip brackets “optional. ”

3) Stacks LACK like it’s hardwood, then blames the floor when it bows.

4) Says “that’s a stock issue” about problems that are clearly coaching.

Yes, I’m ferociously jealous of his staff discount and unlimited yellow pencils. That’s not the point.

A Saturday on the returns desk is not the same as managing a back line under pressure. I wish Warrington’s finest nothing but neat shelves and calm fire exits - just not at any cost, and certainly not in our dugout.

Distance considerably kept.

{Ed025's Note - great feedback FORNAX..cheers mate.. :)

04 Dec 2025 20:01:09
FORNAX - Thanks, that's just what I needed, but what is your solution to Arne's Slop? Is he a Tedd Lasso / B-rod hybrid? Does he enjoy Lidl battenberg with his orangeboom or is he more of a Bratwurst man?

How do we navigate the choppy waters of Dirge-ball back to something more comforting?

Agree3

04 Dec 2025 19:36:34
Fornax. Your very funny. An absolute lunatic, but very very funny.

Agree0

04 Dec 2025 20:36:44
Rojack - he’s a rookworst man.

On the football, Slot is getting flak today because he did the dull, necessary part: make the back sensible, then build the front. The first half could have been any number from last year. Give them the harmless spaces, read the patterns, then turn the screw after the break. We did turn it, we just didn’t score during that 15–20 minute spell when the game was there for us.

On the football, the first thing to fix is upstairs. We’ve lost a chunk of resilience this season. I still think the Jota tragedy shook the group more than most want to admit. You don’t have to agree, but it fits with how we react to setbacks. Last night we wobbled and then steadied, which is a small step but a step all the same.

The attack still looks like new colleagues learning each other. That needs time and repetition. Whether we like it or not, this team is on a journey, with or without Slot.

If there’s one simple target, it’s to stop giving away the first goal. Do that and half of the noise disappears. From “dirge” back to comfort isn’t magic. Keep the shape sensible, let the connections settle and then take more risks in the final third.

Agree4

04 Dec 2025 21:22:06
FORNAX - Thanks again, that was comforting like hearing Yoda speak.

I accept that the loss of Jota has left a cloud over the club, especially his compadres, but we looked poor before that.

Slot has one vision, which is currently like a saturday night out in Rotherham with.3 sheckles in the pocket.

His style of play is a like a rich tea that has been dunked in tetleys for half an hour - Limp like Pele's spam javelin before he discovered viagra.

This is a crisis.

Agree1

04 Dec 2025 21:26:39
But seriously - I miss the passion, don’t feel connected with this team, it’s all so laboured and boring. There’s no emotions.

Agree5

04 Dec 2025 22:17:18
Your last comment is spot on, Rojack. Hence, why I've checked out for this season after last night's snooze fest.

The football, system distinct and lack of effort from the manager on down is killing all the excitement I used to have before we play. Emotionally, I feel near nothing right now.

Agree1

04 Dec 2025 22:31:53
I do prefer Klopp's style personally, I was very uncomfortable with Slot in the beginning. To that extent I agree about missing the visible passion, effort etc., but I just can't accept the view that last year was all about Klopp.

I'm not accusing you of that, but its becoming more and more of a common view. I want to push back, as I've really enjoyed returning to using this forum but it is slowly becoming more and more toxic on here.

There's more than one way to win, and I do not want to allow my personal preferences on style to get in the way of success for the club. We won the Premier League last season and it was comfortable. We certainly had wobbly moments last season, but it was never sustained. This style can achieve success, there is recent evidence of it.

There are valid criticisms of Slot, and some do make an appearance here. He could definitely be to blame for the drop in mentality, but I think there are other factors at play as well. It's not likely to be one cause.

I want the club to give him some more time and enter the market in January as there are obvious deficiencies in the squad, but we are very much in the middle of a complete squad rebuild. Guehi and Semenyo, plus a surprise CM please.

The only one I'd swap for at this stage is Alonso, but that's largely down to the fact it's who I wanted in the first place!

Agree4

05 Dec 2025 00:07:31
Sorry fornax but how often do we hear about a team performing better than the sum of its parts, we have off the top of my head 6 international captains in the squad, best keeper in the world, Whirtz and izak

It's nowhere near good enough this turgid dross slott is serving up.

Agree2

05 Dec 2025 00:11:30
Very valid Fornax. Agree completely.

There is too much negativity and over enthusiastic praise for Klopp and his heavy metal passion.

If there was one thing we wantef Klopp to change was his antics near touchline berating officials for every decision not in our favour.

Many put that down to passion but it was always over the top.

Even Ed02 used to make his feelings clear many a time herr as the game was being watched by so. many children - live and on tv.

I really liked Slot last year as he seemed to be composed and very intelligent.

Now he is doing the same thing that Klopp used to do from touchline.

Seems to. me the pressure has got to him of replicating success of last year and integrating half the squad with new faces who have hardly set fire.

Those clamouring for heavy metal will complain again of the same defensive issues once it starts to fail big time.

Dont know. if Alonso is the answer either.

FORNAX, I enjoy your take (the on meds variation 🤣🤣) but I'm not sure what Slot's style is that you are seeing. I agree the take on here can be negative and luckily we have some positive posters on here to balance out the likes of me 🤣🤣.

We are not going to see the best of the likes of Isak if we don't play to his strengths. We all know what he's capable of but Slot has managed to neuter him as well as others.

If that's not an embarrassment for these players I don't know what is .

I missed the match last night but watched the first half today. The players must be able to feel the frustrated energy of the crowd.

Watching the big Sunderland number 5 get the ball in his own half and run unchallenged to the corner of our box is unbelievable. It's happening a lot this season.

This was supposed to be a run of "winnable" games but so far 1W 1D 2L by an aggregate score of 4-8.

Not looking forward to Saturday I think Leeds will want it a lot more than us. I don't recall looking at upcoming games and wondering where the next win comes from. Maybe Wolves at home. Not felt this negative since pre-Klopp days.

Agree3

04 Dec 2025 18:28:27
Whats more embarrasing is Slot coming out saying teams are not fearing us at Anfield anymore. that's not good enough. Anfield should be a fortress! I still hope Slot sorts this out but time is running out.

Agree8

04 Dec 2025 18:37:19
Have to say tho I don't recall seeing a team spend so much time on the ground. Watched the last two Sunderland matches so clearly it's coached into them to waste as much time as possible.

kss it's quite the fall from grace. He doesn't seem to be getting the memos. It's maddeningly baffling. I think we need more shadow boxing and rugby passing with the football in training. Clearly not doing enough of either.

Agree1

04 Dec 2025 20:38:03
That comment from the Sunderland manager is so accurate and cutting it should be enough to send Slot packing. Sunderland a newly promoted side played out from the back from minute one with the freedom of Anfield, that first half was honestly one of the worse half’s of football we have ever played! I can almost understand a mistimed press or a team playing through you with good play but to just allow them stroll out from the back and pop the ball about while we passively ran around was embarrassing truely embarrassing.

This wasn’t an effort or fitness issue this was tactics!

Agree2

04 Dec 2025 22:21:11
Downey, do you know that the Sunderland manager is about the 3rd manager (Maresca and on other one) in addition to Utd and Forrest players who have come out with the same type of comments after playing us this season? Essentially, calling us soft? Trust me, there will be more. Embarrassing.

Agree3

04 Dec 2025 18:06:13
It’s been a miserable few weeks being an LFC fan, i fully understand the club execs wanting to give Arne time to coach out of this mess. The problems though are growing each week which suggests either the tactics are terrible and won’t work, or the players are not being coached correctly in terms of what they are meant to be doing.

Confidence is through the floor and we are making so many mistakes leading to goals it’s unbelievable.

With the players slot has it really is mind blowing why we are seeing this kind of form.

So my take on it is, the tactics clearly are not suited to the players nor the league, if Slot can’t see that or is choosing not to that is clearly weak management. He should be very much involved with the training and tactics with the players. We can’t blame the new assistant etc as he shouldn’t be left to oversea everything when slot is the head coach.

As for the execs, I fully understand that slot was their man, but sometimes you have to be strong and realise you have made a mistake. At the very least they should be looking into the coaching, speaking to the players etc to find out what the issues are and either having slot address them or replace him. Maybe as some have stated they are waiting to see what happens with Alonso at Madrid or the Bournemouth manager who’s in the final year of his contract, but risking champions league qualification in the process seems like a very big risk, while we have the squad to compete for the titles, we don’t have a manager with either the hunger to be a mutiple winner or desire to change, the execs need to be strong and while showing resilience to sack I guess in some eyes shows this, to me it shows they are not ruthless enough to succeed. We need ruthless leaders were second is not good enough and a manager who has the burning desire to keep winning, not allow arrogance to settle in as he won the league in his first season. Either way it’s going to be an interesting few weeks, the run up to Xmas is going to be painful bet let’s hope one way or another someone has the brass to make a decision and make the right decision on how things need to change soon.

04 Dec 2025 18:31:29
We all know what it's like having a good boss and a bad one. The players are professional athletes but if they don't believe in what they are being tasked to do then they are simply not going to perform to the levels that they are capable of. Human nature and not a function at all of how much money they make. Belief is belief and confidence is everything in life. Clearly they are low on both.

As for Slot's ongoing tenure, I think a top 4 finish and a run in the CL have to be the priorities to pay the bills. Once that is looking in peril (already is for most of us on here) then I think the hammer falls. My guess would be lose Saturday with no progress in the performance and it's over for Slot.

Watching a bit of leeds and Chelsea last night and if we go there with the same game plan I can see a bit of a hiding coming our way - and Chelsea were in decent form!

04 Dec 2025 22:25:02
I think that huge effort vs Arsenal playing with 10 men took it's toll on them mentally. As for us, we will get embarrassed if we approach them with the same attitude and tactics we have been playing.

In fact, had it not been the dexterity from Chiesa, Sunderland would have already done the job.

Do you happen to know how much time Arne Slot actually spends at/ in Liverpool? As he seems to be jetting off to Holland and Dubai at every available opportunity.

{Ed001's Note - no, sorry, I don't keep that close tabs on him. It is clearly not enough though when things are going wrong. You have to be a leader and show that you are putting in the work if you are going to ask others to do so.}

What did Slot do during the preseason? What are they doing in training?

04 Dec 2025 14:10:44
The performances go hand in hand with the results. Liverpool have world class players - if the performances were as they should be, we’d win 30 games a season in the league. This isn’t a team that gets unlucky despite playing well - if they played well, they’d win nearly every game.

ShipleyKopite has written an article entitled, Liverpool's Passive Display Raises Concerns Under Slot

04 Dec 2025 13:31:31
Up until 2 weeks ago I was all for giving Slot more time but it is quite clear he will not change tactics.
It is time for him to go.
The Premier League has changed dramatically over the last 18 months.
Teams are far more physical and direct, we have gone the exact opposite.
He has bought players to try and pick the lock of the low block while other teams are just smashing it off with a sledgehammer.

It is OK having Wirtz and Isak but the rest of the team needs to be made up of energy and physicality.
As Shanks said " You only need one person to play the piano but you need 10 to carry it".

04 Dec 2025 15:03:33
Isak is woeful. I wasn’t quite as harsh before we signed him but I didn’t want him either.

Woeful is being kind.

Agree0

04 Dec 2025 16:17:45
He is getting absolutely no service. We need our wingers to be getting to the byline and cutting the ball back between the six yard box and penalty spot.
Ours cannot beat a man and are always looking to cut inside.
Again tactics are all wrong!

Agree4

04 Dec 2025 16:27:33
His work rate is poor, that needs improving. He isn’t a woeful player, but looks like a loose part in our set up.

Agree0

04 Dec 2025 16:47:53
The fact Isak destroyed Liverpool every time he played for Newcastle shows he’s not woeful. But it is clear Slot has zero clues how to get the most from him.
