With Johnson on the way out, Flanagan out for a while and Manquillo not really getting a chance would Alvarado Arbeloa be an option for next season. He's got Carvajal and Danilo likely to push him out and though I might be accused of living in the past I always thought he was steady enough and could fill the right back role until one of the youngsters are ready. Also versatile to fill in at CB if necessary

{Ed002's Note - There is no interest right now, so no.}

Andre Wisdom, would he be our solution. Always thought of him as a solid enough player

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 06:27:17
Andre would need to do a lot of improving for me. Not first choice at West Brom and for me is more suited to Centre Back

Mick I remember a ed saying that Tony Tony Pulis likes his back four to be over 6ft tall, the only reason Wisdom is not in the team.

Ed latest rumour tonight is sterlings agent has talked to bayern munich. Crap as usual mate?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - This is not new news DR. His agent and another representatives have been walking the streets trying to gauge interest from other clubs including Bayern Munich.}

13 May 2015 19:00:05
would he ask them to ask clubs if they want him or is it purely agents trying to get lots more cash. It seems that some players even though they are happy at their clubs get hawked around.obviously not in this case though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs would normally have a major issue with agents effectively offering player who are not available for sale - it is something I know happens at the very high-end of the market where certain agents and representatives (e.g. the "super agents" serve a very useful purpose liaising over transfers), but for the likes of a kid like Sterling, it would not be something that should happen - and would not be something I would expect the club to be happy about. If and when the time comes, Liverpool will instruct his agent what they want for the player and then he can get out and do his job.}

13 May 2015 19:58:10
Jorge Mendes is a big name i always here. Hopefully the club will be realistic with the price and get it over with quick. don't want it dragging and us missing out on targets we could spend that money on.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 21:35:52
Good riddance! No loyalty, and easily the most overrated player in Europe. Runs into people, loses the ball constantly, poor passing and a poor shot. How on earth he is getting so much attention I do not know. Anyone that pays over £15m for him have been mislead. Cash in on the lad while he still wants to leave incase he changes his mind and we are stuck with an overhyped child with an attitude problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you do realise he is just a kid? Glad you aren't involved in making the decisions as you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. The lad has great potential but it being chronically mismanaged by the club and manager. He gets the ball with no options and people still expect him to work wonders. If you are going to refer to missed chances, Michael Owen was one of the worst I have ever seen for needing bucketloads of chances to score, but he did ok, because the team was built around getting him those chances. Sterling doesn't have that helping hand, he has a team that is an utter shambles with no clear plan. He gets attention because despite the handicaps of the team around him he stands out as a talent.}

13 May 2015 21:30:40
Hi ed2 if then reason he is not signing a new contract has nothing to do with money, what in your opinion is it about? Is it that he wants champions league, was not offered the contract soon enough, doesn't see Liverpool as the best place to develops or has relations with br just got that bad?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The CL issue was always going to be a big issue - and bad advice, and too high expectations....}

13 May 2015 22:16:30
Ed0001- on just a different note, where would you believe Sterling would be best deployed and in what formation/style? From an earlier post it's as if you feel he would be best as a striker which I have been personally thinking if the club went back to a diamond like last season I think Sterling would be great with another striker next to him. Just wondering what is your views on where he's best deployed

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he has evolved yet to fully be able to settle into any role. I think he is still at an age where he can be moulded to fit a number of roles within the front line. A lot depends on how it is being played, but I think his best position will probably end up being the one that Hazard occupies at Chelsea. The wide forward with freedom to roam.}

14 May 2015 10:06:54
The problem Sterling has now is that it has been widely reported that he has turned down big bucks at LFC, and that really poorly advised interviews has changed the way fans perceive him. Until recently, his deficiencies were attributed to him being young, and the popular opinion among LFC fans was that he would improve gradually and reach a very high level. But when it is made known that he wants big money equivalent to the likes of Gerrard, people start thinking, "well if he wants that sort of money, we need to see that sort of performances" and that hasn't been the case with him in the last 3-4 months. If Rodgers had said nothing about his contract situation out in public, and if he didn't give that novice interview, he would have had more support from LFC fans.

IMO, LFC need a little tinkering this summer, and Sterling is an asset that can be sold for big money (and we will have to sell him if he doesn't sign a new deal this summer anyway), and that is precious money we could use to spend on a striker who would make a marked difference (such as a Vela or an Aubameyang) and, we would still not be short of attacking midfielders with Ibe, Coutinho, Lallana (big season needed from him) and Markovic.

Hello Ed002,
I'm just interested in something you said a while back about Mitrovic being a "very good option that Liverpool are missing right now". I don't doubt your opinion. I was just wondering if you could elaborate a bit more on why you think he will be a good option.

Do you think he would be a good option only with a different manager or even if Rodgers was in charge?

I ask this as Rodgers didn't want to play Andy Carroll and seems reluctant to play Lambert and Balotelli.
(Never understood why Liverpool replaced a very mobile striker in Luis Suarez, with 2 tall target men type strikers)

So is Mitrovic a similar type of striker to Lambert and Balotelli (but better).
Or is Mitrovic nothing like the other strikers.
Is Rodgers the reason why these strikers won't work at Liverpool.

Cheers.
(I realize that grouping Mitrovic, Lambert, Balotelli and Carroll into a stereotype is very simplistic and probably stupid)

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Aleksandar Mitrović offers everything Liverpool are missing - he is young, strong, fit, good in the air and he scores goals. In a way he is like a traditional centre forward. Unlike Manquillo, Moreno, Sakho and Gerrard, he speaks fluent English. People who have met him have said he is likeable and is reliable and will do what he is told. He would also likely slot straight in to the first team squad. Lambert perhaps at his best and 10 years ago or so would be the closest Liverpool have.

It really doesn't matter who the manager is, I think he would have been a good choice. However, here is interest in Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrović from Manchester United, Swansea, Dortmund, Newcastle and Eintracht Frankfurt. The interest of Leicester and Bayern Munich seems to have gone, but Arsenal may just look again at the player - depending on which direction they wish to go given their first choice as opted to moved elsewhere. The interest from Manchester United is recent and ramping up I am told. Newcastle are likely not an option.}

13 May 2015 18:52:26
I always found Mitrovic a bit weak with his feet. but he scores goals!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 19:13:20
Alvarez, does he tend to score a lot of goals that just dribble over the line then, given his weak feet?

Thanks very much Ed002.

Glad you could work your way through my mess of a question.

enjoyed the Gerrard joke.

14 May 2015 13:10:03
Zeddicus; A lot of his goals are from crosses, he doesn't tend to dibble with the ball. He can shoot.

{Ed002's Note - You are correct.}

13 May 2015 15:49:05
Was going to say it sounded like rubbish, but now I see he's a LCB I believe it as clearly we need another one of those as a priority.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2015 15:57:51
Plz tell me this is rubbish. Why does clueless Brendan want another LCB when we already have 3 at the club? How is any sane person at the club even sanctioning this madness? Inigo Martinez is a good player but not what we need right now.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2015 15:59:14
Is there a quota? One left sided centre back for big money each summer?

Agree1 Disagree1

13 May 2015 16:14:16
Perhaps Lovren is going to be converted to a right sided centre back (he's right footed) to be back up to Skrtel as Toure is leaving. Or we are selling Lovren altogether.
We have approx 7/8 centre backs over 20 on our books at the min. another one is not a priorty. I'd be relatively happy if we just picked 4, sold the rest and used the money towards a top quality striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 17:17:16
no truth in these Martinez rumours though is there Ed? I've been posting replys to others saying our onterest was on Vela, however reports seem to be growing. Surely we are well stocked with defenders?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any bid. If either Lovren or Sakho were to leave then perhaps there would be interest. Liverpool are overloaded with centre backs so it makes no sense.}

13 May 2015 17:45:53
maybe he can also play as LB.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 17:46:21
Maybe he can also play as Left Back and so Enrique's replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is not a left back.}

13 May 2015 17:49:18
Obviously he will be our "Marquee" signing to play alongside Sturridge up top with Brendan in charge.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 18:54:33
Left-footed centre-back, you say? Sounds like Brendan is getting us a new right winger.

13 May 2015 19:54:47
If the manager wants to play 3 at the back, it's not overly ridiculous, especially if that frees Can to play in midfield again.

Hi eds, I used the search function did Vietto, and you said something along the lines of Son being a backup option to vietto (if I understood correctly) then another saying athletico are trying to find a move for cavani or vietto, what is our current interest? Bid imminent or just watching did now?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You think you misread it. Just to be clear, Atletico ideally want Cavani and Vietto and to effectively replace Mandzukic and Griezmann. Whilst I understand that there has been recent interest from Atletico, Bayern Munich, Napoli, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Juventus with Spurs having approached his agent at the end of February as well, Vietto looks to be staying in Spain. An interesting side issue is that Barcelona, unable to buy players before January 2016, have offered to provide Villareal with a player (apparently suitable for their first team) on loan from this coming summer if they can get an option on the player for January. However, it looks likely that Vietto will move this summer and that would take Barcelona out of the equation. Liverpool are very likely completely out of the market for the player and are looking again at Bayer Leverkusen's Heung Min Son and others (as HMS might be a difficult transfer to make happen). Talks are happening regarding Vietto with Atletico and may soon happen with Real Madrid.

A number of clubs have sustained interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Heung Min Son. Liverpool, Spurs and CSKA Moscow have all had representation at games in recent weeks and are maintaining an interest, or in the case of Liverpool rekindling it as an alternative to Vietto. However, Bayer Leverkusen have no desire or need to sell and the player is apparently happy and looking forward to playing in the Champions League in Westphalia. I suspect any transfer would be difficult at best.}

13 May 2015 13:00:36
Griezmann is playing very well, why Atletico wants him out? Or there is someone interested with high chance of signing him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Atletico don't particularly want to sell him but there are discussions going on about a move.}

13 May 2015 13:01:05
Hey ed, could you list the other alternatives of Vietto that you know are being considered - with the full understanding, of course, that those are just potential targets, and nothing is set in stone yet!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have done this over and over again.

Ings, Vietto (probably not possible), Heung Min Son (as an alternative to Vietto, but I suspect it would be very difficult to make happen), Carlos Vela (looked at yet again recently and another alternative that might be viable). Aubameyang might be an option. Gameiro, Baez (a WP would be an issue initially), Kishna (I understand that old interest has been rekindled but it is hard to see how he would fit in), Lacazette (not going to happen), and Liverpool have looked again at Firmino (can't see it happening) and looked at Depay - perhaps as an alternate to Sterling, but that won't happen. Two other players the club were interested in - Bakkali (I suspect Liverpool have stepped back from their interest like many other clubs) and Andre Ayew (a free agent who Liverpool enquired about last summer - no real interest right now but it may return). If Sterling were to leave then a move for Walcott may be on the cards, or perhaps Cheryshev - but no offer has been made. }

13 May 2015 13:21:53
Thanks, ed!

13 May 2015 18:56:30
I for one would absolutely love to see us sign Aubameyang. What a player he could become with the right tools and development.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Certainly plenty of right tools at Liverpool.}

13 May 2015 21:57:12

13 May 2015 11:50:14
Have Liverpool shown any degree of interest in Jack Wilshere over the last year? Just thinking the Milner interest shows we are after a midfield utility player and with Milner going to Arsenal Wilshere may be surplus to requirements. Checked the search function and found nothing.

I'm not sure I'd even want him but if he could sort his attitude and stay fit there is clear potential there.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - nope.}

13 May 2015 18:22:02
Not just his attitude EMS, have you seen his injury record. He's not far off Diaby in the sick note competition.

Hi eds.

Ssn reporting we have serious interest in martinez of sociadad.
surely centre halfs are the last thing we should be buying in summer? We over run with them, unless there going to b a mass exodus!

Cheers

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool were represented at a Real Sociedad game last week as I expaliend - my understanding is that it was another player they were particularly interested in. We'll see.}

13 May 2015 11:47:16
Lfc erroll, I've seen it on there also mate and other sites. Eds had said that we were at the game to watch Carlos Vela. So it seems ssn and others have got it totally wrong and are guessing.

Hello Ed002, Iago Aspas has told ESPN that he is moving to Sevilla permanently and that he has signed a new contract with Sevilla. Are you aware of any deal?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would think that it has lost something in translation. There is an option to buy in his contract and Sevilla will almost certainly take up that option. Sevilla are already likely to lose one striker this summer so Aspas will likely be used more often - else they will sell him on right away. But there will be no signed deal at this time.}
