Hi ed papers reporting we hold interest in James Maddison is there any truth? Looks a cracking talent he's up there with neves and sessegnon for best player in league.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I had to check on this so it should be correct. It seems that JM has been watched by scouts from a number of PL sides including Spurs (who have been looking at him for three years), Crystal Palace, Leicester, West Ham and Newcastle. Rangers have also taken a look I am told. In late 2015 when Maddison was still at Coventry City, Liverpool were one of the sides (with Spurs) who was looking at the player. It is possible that Liverpool has maintained that interest. As for approaches for the player, I am told that Leicester, Newcastle and Spurs have spoken with his agent and Leicester and Spurs have both spoken with Norwich. And that is pretty much all I could find out in the past hour. I suspect the player might want to ensure he is in contention to start games which seems unlikely at any of the higher-profile sides. At the likes of Crystal Palace, Leicester or Newcastle he could continue with what everyone expects to be a good career.}

Thanks ed in your opinion do you think he would be a good signing for us?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know anything of the player but it is hard to see how he would get a regular game, and would that suit him?}

I work with a lad who played with him and also my boss knows someone to do with him. I posted a while back when the links to us started in the papers perhaps a month ago. The player wants to go to Arsenal and thinks he will get his wish. From the lads mouth via my colleague. Ed will be more accurate as regards to interest but I believe I know what the players wants/ hopes for.

Arsenal could be a good move for him depending on who there next manager is. I would think he would get a bit more game time there ahead of the likes of elny etc.

I would like him tho, for me I would rather him get a chance than wij/ can or milner in the coming seasons. Depends really who are other targets are.

I don't think it makes sense for him to come to LFC. Not if we are signing the midfielders who I think we are singing. Will not get a look in. At his age he needs to be playing week in week out.

Really good player but not at the same level as Nevas and sessegnon yet.

Watched some videos of him on youtube (to get a better idea since I've never seen him play) . Seems to be a quick, slashing type of attacking midfielder - the type that we do need in the ranks. However, with his age, and the fact that we already have Wilson, Kent and Ojo able to play the same position, I really don't see the point of signing him. Unless LFC scouts and coaches make the assessment that he is already better than the 3 of them, which I do not believe to be necessarily the case.

I'd rather we continue doing what we did with Jordon Ibe. Bring the player up to the fringes of the first team and see if he will sink or swim. And then make the assessment to keep or sell. It's pointless to keep collecting players and then have them become perpetual loanees (ie. Awoniyi and Allan, amongst others) . I think Wilson, Kent and Ojo deserve to be given their assessment chances in the summer, and then be told if they have a chance, before we make commitments to new purchases.

Norwich geographically is my closet club, so i do take some interest in them as well as knowing several season ticket holders. Seen him live a couple of times this season and by far he was the outstanding player on the pitch both games. Attacking midfielder through the middle is his best position according to for mentioned season ticket holders, but can play slightly deeper. From what I saw of him he kind of reminds me of Wiltshire, always looking for pockets of space always happy to receive the ball and move it again, has got a turn of pace but not lightning. He is double figures for goals and assists this season. Norwich will cash in on him come the summer. As I can remember we offered £3m when he was at Coventry, Norwich matched this and he chose them for game time, which to be fair to him was probably a smart move at the time. Think he’s worth the money being talked about, low risk signing really considering wages and resale value. But the question is would be displace Keita, Henderson, Ox, Milner, Wijnaldum? Also is he then blocking Woodburns route to the team?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - bit harsh comparing him to Wilshere. Maddison is a much better player.}

Was thinking of Wilshire when he was so promising at a similar age. But he went off the rails, didn’t live the correct lifestyle, believed his own hype and had injuries. But I think he had talent and traits similar.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - except he had a terrible first touch, which is what caused the injuries due to overstretching to control the ball. Why do people ridiculously overrate such an average (at best) player?}

Agreed Ed1 regarding Wilshere. The word 'talent' shouldn't be in the same sentence as him, the amount of times I have heard people say he had potential, I don't know what player they've watched because he's always been pretty useless when I've seen him play. He is to be quite frank terrible. I couldn't believe my eyes last summer when a few people was calling for us to sign him lol and saying how he'd be an improvement, my word!

Maddison I haven't seen play so I can't judge him but he sounds like an exciting young lad. I just don't see the need in signing such players when we have our own youngsters dying to get their chances, unless this lad is the next Salah kind of player I think we should leave it alone and concentrate on our youngsters.

Sorry Ed know I shouldn't laugh but whenever someone mentions Wilshere you remind me of Will Ferrells character in Zoolander having a meltdown because nobody else sees Zoolander is actually a bit rubbish!

{Ed002's Note - It is important to ask the right folk if you don't know.}

For sure ed002. You must know an awful lot of the right people to find all that out in an hour. Do these people ever ask you why you want to know or do they know why you ask?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, no one ever asks. They know me.}
