Hi eds,

Reading through some Liverpool rumours in papers and there are a few i'd like to ask about.

We have been linked with these three players at some point since klopp took over and was wondering if any where real targets.

First there is praet of Anderlecht, couple of papers saying we wanted him in January and he is a realistic target for the summer.

Then subotic, some saying we are going for a permanent deal rather than the loan we wanted in January.

And finally granit xhaka, one player I would live us to sign however he would be quite expensive.

Believable0 Unbelievable19

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine - I have answered all of these at length. I am loath to open up the Praet matter too much as clearly many here don't want to see him at the club - not the required superstar. Matip has agreed a move which makes Subotic less likely. Everyone seems to think Xhaka has agreed a "pre-contract" and will be announced immediately before tomorrow's game - except me seemingly.}}

Granit Xhaka is under contract until 30/ 6/ 2019, so assuming that he will join in July 2019 if he has signed a pre contract, which I believe to be illegal.
Perhaps the two clubs could have agreed a fee for the summer but that's not what's been reported.

the player people are thinking of regarding Granit Xhaka is in fact Håvard Nordtveit who's contract expires this june!

but i believe it is pure speculation putting 2 + 2 together as per usual! and i don't believe that he would be an upgrade on what we have already!

I do dispair with some rumour sites, they don't even bother to put in the simple groundwork to find out basic facts!

Eds I haven't seen much Praet bashing mate unless you've not put the posts up. I think he is a very decent player and one that Klopp can develop. You've previously said we are watching him, have we advanced on that and watched him recently again?

{Ed002's Note - I have not put the posts up.}

Owe i see ok mate. Well i don't no what peoples issue is with him tbh. Also means because of a few individuals we miss out on any update.

{Ed002's Note - There is no update - I explained exactly what the situation is and it is unchanged.}

Too many similar players is the issue I'd have, I would have preferred Teixeira but in hindsight not at that price. I'd love for Klopp to look seriously at Markovic as he may be differentiation in attack we so crave and unlike the others mentioned, we won't have to pay over the odds to get him.

I don't know enough about Praet, but he's well rated. Only concern is whether he can step up from a weak league. But if he's talented enough it shouldn't be a problem?

Not t sure why we need another youngster in attacking mids/ wing given we have Ibe, Markovic, Ojo, Kent and Llalana/ Milner can play there. I would however be happy to see a pacy winger that is an established talent that can immediately improve the first team like a Lucas Moura.

Zimbo

The attacking mid ain't scoring a lot of goals unlike other clubs. One reason the club will look to bring someone who would improve the first team. I suspect any interest in Praet would see Coutinho move as he is a like alike player.
Agree with you on a World class winger. We need one like Mahrez or Moura.

Agree, in a 4-2-3-1 you ideally have one fairly prolific goalscorer in your attacking mids (eg semi striker like Sanchez, Reus or Mahrez) that can score 20 or so, or else minimum have a few players that can consistently score 10+ or so a year. otherwise tough to get the 70-80 goals a season you need to compete at the very top level.

Besides Benteke, injuries and all the other excuses, it's also true Llalana, Milner, Ibe or even Coutinho have been scoring enough. Call it learning a new system, fluidity etc. but none of these have been particularly prolific in their past either. We can hope one hits massive form like Mahrez (likely Firmino I'd guess) or buy in someone that has proven scoring abilities from out wide.

If we can find a proven talent like Sanchez etc. then we should jump, but otherwise happy to stick provided Markovic returns, we don't need another youngster that's going to provide 5-7 goals a year while they're learning.

Think we have enough talent to develop already with Ibe, Ojo, Markovic in particular players I expect may make a big impact with another season or two under their belts.

Spot on Zimbo.

That has always been the problem of the club. We massively depend on our strikers ( thus Torres and Suarez sale have hurt has badly ) to score goals. Haven't found someone from the middle who scores 15 goals a season.

You could clearly see Klopp relying to heavily on Firmino in the absence of Danny to score goals. We need a couple more to take that responsibility, if not we need to bring a couple in the summer.

Klopp as hinted that a winger might be a priority in the summer but not wholesale changes.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

{Ed002's Note - Clearly Liverpool have been looking in particular at wingers with their scouting and that in itself may sound the death knell for Markovic. With Ibe, Ojo and Canos on the books in addition to several players like Milner, Origi, Lallana and Firmino who are comfortable in those positions and youngsters like Kent, it seems some sort of reshuffle will be necessary. Liverpool don’t seem to have honed in on one target but they are certainly looking.}

Anyone in particular we seem to be watching ed now?

{Ed002's Note - See above.}

17 Feb 2016 18:08:10
Could sane still be an option ed2?

Agree0 Disagree12

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool looked but I don't see him as ever having been a viable option. Schalke rejected bids from Spurs and Stoke for Leroy Sane in the summer of 2015. A number of clubs from across Europe have had the player watched in the first and reserve sides towards the end of last season and at the start of this - including Manchester United, Barcelona, Sunderland, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Bayer Leverkusen, PSG, West Ham and RBL. Do not discount a bid from Manchester City in the summer after an approach was pushed back in January - where they were loathe to meet the potential asking price, even though they were willing to make a very significant offer. Know Manchester City know that a bid from Barcelona is imminent and that will be immediately followed by a bid from Real Madrid as the three clubs battle over a summer move. As to whether he is ready just yet, no, probably not. There is the potential to yet again see a great talent squashed (at least for a year or two).}

17 Feb 2016 18:41:44
Maybe if one or too leave ed

Lallana May go but still need to open more slots.

Agree0 Disagree10

{Ed002's Note - Maybe but I am not aware of any proposal to sell Lallana. If they were looking to sell they would likely have his agent looking around for interest. If Markovic leaves there will be no need to replace him - the same with Canos. So space needs to be made as the club are looking at wingers as we know.}

17 Feb 2016 19:02:56
Need a pacey winger Ibe hasn't done enough this season to be the main man put wide.

Agree7 Disagree14

18 Feb 2016 00:57:17
Ibe is still growing, i think he could become very good player but agree, would be good to have a proven winger signed up!

That said would also like Marko to have a shot!

Hi Eds,
Is goal keeper adrino adan a taget for Liverpool . are we looking to get in a new gk.

Thank you
Ynwa:)

Believable2 Unbelievable16

{Ed002's Note - I assume that you mean Real Betis' Antonio Adan who returned to Spain after citing problems settling in Italy. He has certainly attracted the attention of scouts from a number of teams this season with Southampton, Marseille, Sunderland and Newcastle all paying attention. I am not aware of any Liverpool interest but the club will certainly be looking for a replacement for Bogdan in the summer and Adan would give Mignolet a better run for his money. Adan would also be much cheaper than ter Stegen who seems to be the one the supporters want. Marseille may drop their interest in the light of something going on in the background. If Sunderland were to be relegated then I would discount them. What I don't know is if the player would want to leave southern Spain for England.}

17 Feb 2016 13:38:49
If he didn't settle well in Italy he is going to really struggle here as the game is more physical, from what I have seen of him he doesn't look any better than what we have. I would hope we go for someone who is actually top quality and not an "also ran".

Hi ed
I was just wondering whether Liverpool hold an interest in a young midfielder from Benfica called Renato Sanches . Watched him against Zenit and seemed like a beast .

Believable3 Unbelievable16

{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, though I am sure the club are aware of him because he is being tracked by everyone, the price is likely to rule out any interest from us at this time though.}

17 Feb 2016 07:53:18
Saw a brilliant "rumour" he's worth Eur 60mln despite having played less than 20 games and scored 2 goals.

Agree1 Disagree13

17 Feb 2016 20:00:37
Fairly sure that's in relation to his buy out clause which as with a lot of players is extremely bloated.

Agree0 Disagree11

17 Feb 2016 23:51:32
Think the buyout was 80m, the 60m is presumably his club saying not for sale. If he's worth 60, we should look to sell Ibe for 100 and bring back Suarez!

Oh god in that case zimbo I think you're right! We must be able to shift ballo off to China for at least 80 mill aswell haha.
