Ed can you see us going for Ben White as cover at CB? He would be perfect in my opinion.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not looking at spending £50M on a back up CB.}

Is that how much Brighton are asking for ed002? Do you think he stays at Brighton or ends up elsewhere?

My missus family are all Brighton fans and they're frustrated at Leeds fans assuming they'll just keep White. So would he very grateful if you could answer.

{Ed002's Note - That is what Brighton quoted another side who asked but Leeds want another loan ideally. Brighton want to integrate him in to their side next season.}

The Telegraph are reporting Diego Carlos is Guardiola's first choice CB. Be interesting to see if we throw our hat in the mix should city make a move for him.

The only reason I'm posting this is because Klopp has an interest.

Have you heard anything on this ( regarding City's ) interest Ed002?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Diego Carlos (CB) Manchester City had dropped their interest in preference of two others - but it could return. Real Madrid has a sustained interest but the focus is seeing what funds can be raised and then returning for DC or another. Barcelona have him on their list of CBs but money is going to be an issue this summer and they will look to horse trade using Ivan Rakitic. Priority is, like Real Madrid and get any transfer completed and then see where they are (they have already deferred their two major purchases to next summer). Liverpool has declared an interest in taking DC in the summer. If this happens, I would think it would be the big move for the club this summer and would leave Gomez picking up pieces across the defence. May be viable for Liverpool to include Xherdan Shaqiri in a deal but that opportunity is very quickly drifting away and having no funds will hamper them.

I think Gomez will be picking up the pieces of his liverpool career if we spend big money on a CB.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Ed002.

You need to ask yourself, if Virg was to get injured, can you see Gomez as the same player without Virg next to him. Gomez is brilliant but I think Klopp would want another leader/ strong centre half. Personally I don't think Gomez posseses leadership qualities in the backline if we missed Virg.

I doubt they'll sell him for a hat.

Gomez may be a bit young to be a Virgil type CB but he is still a very good CB and I do not think we will be looking to replace him.

Hi Ed, I hope you are keeping well.

Do you think we would make a move even if we hadn't done the potential business that would raise the (or any of the) funds?

I have read and understood your view re our finances but is this player and in particular this position important enough for Klopp to react should it look like he is losing him prior to the expected sales?

I appreciate that it's a speculative question but I hope you see what I mean and why I ask.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The club does not have funds without selling unless they dip in to the money that is available from all of the assets being mortgaged, including Anfield. That makes ltlle sense to me.}

Gomez can't pass. Has only got pace. he's a 3rd choice if a more cultured def is available. Klopp knows it. He struggled to oust matip before he got injured.

I don't understand what has happened to Gomez's confidence? As He was doing fine last season. As things stand today, Matip is the better CB.

Gomez can't pass? had to read that line a few times.

Get off Gomez back. We just won the league and there was an expected hangover. Granted we didn't expect a 4-0 hangover and a loss to Arsenal but don't throw the towel in on Gomez. I personally like the scenario of Gomez filling in at all spots, Larouchi getting a move away which is good for his career and whatever transfer funds we have being used for Carlos. I think we are a few years from seeing Ki jana and Sepp ready to step up, so it would make plenty of sense to me.

Joe gomez is 23 and has won the premier league champions league and club world cup as a centre back with liverpool.

Some people are saying he ain't good enough. Name me a better centre half around his age. He plays in a high pressure environment week in week out at a top level. He ain't a 23 year old cb playing in a soft league. Look at our goals conceded total this year.

Hes about 6 years away from his peak too btw.

If gomez struggles with anything its confidence at times. That will mature naturally. he's a much better centre half than even he thinks he is and certainly a much better centre half than some liverpool supporters think.

He would walk into any other defence in the premier league and he's home grown as well.

Liverpool need another back up cb if lovern leaves. Nothing more. If they can get a really good one who is happy to rotate and at a decent price then great.

you don't have be over 23 to pass a ball.

What is this nonsense about Gomez not being able to pass?

Sure, he can't ping 50 yard passes like Vigil can, but he's adept enough at passing for what he needs.

he often puts others under pressure with his passing. Personally think it's a weak point far outweighed by the rest of his game.

We do need another first choice CD though.

I like gomez he’s quick and statistically gomez and VVD are a great partnership. As in they rarely concede. For me liverpool still need a proper striker more than anything else. 20 plus shots on goal scoring one isn’t good enough. Mane Salah and Firmino are superb but often they need 5 chances to score one. Firmino hasn’t scored at anfield this season. Brilliant player who for me is one of the first players on the team sheet but his finishing isn’t great. We need a Torres type up top imo.

EDs,
Since there is a talk of first choice CB signing, you think Liverpool could yet make a cheeky bid for Conor Coady. He has been fantastic.
thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No, I don't think that would happen.}

17 Jul 2020 11:23:42
Coach couldn’t play in a high line imo.

A cheeky bid is what people do on property shows. :-) Waste of time in football.

Maybe when they send the offer they send a cheeky message slagging of one of their mums or something.

I don't think Coady will be anywhere near as good without playing in a back 3. He looks very good in that Wolves defence but put him in our high line back four and he'd struggle.
