Any truth in the Romero rumours? Makes total sense to me that we would be buying 2 CB's because not only are 2 of ours injury prone, but with 3 all coming back from serious injuries, to rush any of them would be playing with fire on a number of levels. I like the idea of an aggressive CB being brought in like the Turk we bid 50m for from Juve or Romero.

Seems we are shopping at the top end of the market if these rumours are true.
We'd likely get 10m for Nat and 8 for Davies now also, which all helps, but the main point is, we simply can't rush any of the other 3 back.

Who'd pay £8m for Davies? We only got 10 for Dejan.

No, no truth whatsoever.

I can’t imagine anyone would bid £50m for Demiral after his last outing for Turkey.

In any case, I can’t see why we’d go for Romero, we literally have 7 centre backs and there’s other more pressing matters to deal with now.

What Victor said, loads already on the books.

Also, you don't buy players to cover the first 2 months of the season, Nat Phillips can do that just keep him this season as well.

Precisely Sean. If we can’t get a pairing out of VVD, Matip, Gomez, Kounate, Phillips, Davies, Williams and even Kometio then questions need asking!

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 09:49:28
On top of the injuries, VVD is approaching the age of 'last big contract', and who knows what he desires, especially after his injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 10:27:53
VVD has a good four or five years left at the top and there’s every reason to think he’s likely to fully recover from that injury. I think he’s likely to commit and the club realise he’s worth that last big contract.

10 million wouldn’t buy Nat Phillips with one leg btw. A proven young English center back. Imagine we tried to buy a 24 year old pl proven cb who’s English from Burnley or Leicester or Brighton. Think of the fees they have plucked out of thin air for those kinds of player. He’s a £20m cb at the very least and I wouldn’t want to sell him for a penny less unless he gets a dream move offered to him and he asks to leave for it.

Your username suits you anyway spaceman 😂.

18 Jun 2021 15:17:21
And £40M for Ben White is a current example of what Jezza is saying, young English centre backs are priced very high. Nat Phillips wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as Ben White but it is an example of how expensive English players can be.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 17:55:52
Ben White is a capped England international, with 160 appearances in English football, 39 come in the Prem and is first choice for his club at the age of 23.

Nat Philips is 5th choice centreback with 21 appearances in English football with only 1 of those coming outside this injury stricken season.

There’s a reason why there would be a descrepancy in their valuations.

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 18:29:34
In fairness, Phillips is clearly a better defender than Ben Gibson and I reckon he’s better than Michael Keane and at least as good as James Tarkowski so he’s got to be worth more than £10m as Gibson went for £16m and Keane was around £20m. So £20m is fair value for an English centre half who is clearly premier league quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed077's Note - How long does his contract run for? That can alter the fee as well.}

18 Jun 2021 18:46:29
Just throwing my tuppence worth into the conversation.
I really like Nate so here we go, none of those other players mentioned got thrown in at the deep end in a devastated defence slipping down the Prem table and ended up finishing 3rd in the Prem.
He's worth every penny of 20+mil to half of the teams in the EPL.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 19:34:03
Take £10m and run, no one has money this summer so no hope of £20m fees for him. And after this season where he gets a couple of 88th minute substitute appearances a cupla times during the season we'll be doing well to get £4-5m next year.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2021 07:43:29
Phillips, to my knowledge, has a year left on his contract. A player is only worth what a club is prepared to pay and sell for. I love Phillips attitude and desire, my only issue is he's got a taste for football and I fear he may want out. I wouldn't begrudge him a move and if I'm right about his contract 10m is fair. In his short time with us he's been a fabulous servant. I'll support whatever decision he makes.

Good point ed077, I think he’s got two more years from what I’ve read.

Ed do you know of any interest in Daniel Sturridge from around the world. I miss seeing him kick a football to be honest….

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed0666's Note - He spends a tonne of time in LA producing his music and is keeping in shape in the hope of getting a contract. I would hazard a guess his top flight career is over. Lower ranking MLS or Championship team at best. Jeez Louise what a world class striker when fit and firing on all cylinders. Love the guy for the respect he shows our club to this day.

17 Jun 2021 20:02:12
Fair play, hope he gets in somewhere, MLS would be a good idea tbf. He's always been a class lad and was gutted he got injured. I still remember that 90 minute goal Vs Chelsea a few years ago.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - waste of space if you ask me, absolute piss taker in his last few seasons and spent more time on the treatment table than the pitch RH..

17 Jun 2021 20:05:01
100% Ed!

Agree4 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 20:12:24
He should try to get a move to one of the LA sides. They tend to be given a tonne more coverage in the American general media than the other MLS sides do so it could be good publicity for his music over there in the future. Probably couldn't expect to be a designated player though.

I have a personal theory that the reason Zlatan went to LA Galaxy because he wants to be in movies in the future.

I agree with you most of the times ed025. This is one time I wish I didn’t. So much potential he had. Amazing threat when he wanted to be.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no doubting his ability mate, but could have been so much better if he had a heart or the desire....but he never..

18 Jun 2021 09:48:36
What could have been eh. Fantastic talent.

Agree2 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 11:56:35
Injuries clearly didn’t help and held him back but in his last couple of seasons he was a joke, he put in less effort than Ballotelli at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - He was a bit of a hperchondriac but some of the abuse of him is unwarranted. Maybe he didn’t always give 100% due to him thinking his body was gonna breakdown but he was always loyal and respectful.

18 Jun 2021 14:53:00
You can’t compare Sturridge to Balotelli, that’s not fair. Balotelli never did anything in a Liverpool shirt to remotely suggest he was a footballer. Sturridge had a horrendous time with injury.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 15:08:38
Certainly wouldn't compare him to that joke overgrown baby Balotelli! Even at his least effective Sturridge was in a different league to that clown.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jun 2021 19:11:11
Comparing him to balotelli is just idiotic. Did you even watch both players?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2021 13:11:06
I haven’t said they're the same in terms of quality and what they did at the club as Sturridge was great in his first few seasons but the last few he was woeful and his effort levels were none existent. Maybe it was based on his fragile body but if he wasn’t up to it he shouldn’t have been on the pitch. He’d just let balls go by him if he thought he couldn’t get to them, chased nothing, I barely saw him sprint. Exactly what Ballotelli did.
Also saying he was respectful and loyal I would say should be a given with any player (although often not the case), especially one who was nearly always injured, contributed next to nothing to the team in his last 2/ 3 seasons and was on a big wage that wouldn’t have been matched if he moved on.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - there is no evidence to suggest he was a bottler. If I saw Studge in LA I’d go over and give him a hug I’m not so sure I’d do the same with Naby or Balotelli.

19 Jun 2021 13:30:01
Are you allowed to hug strangers in LA? You’d get told off for doing that here!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jun 2021 00:43:26
Oh God Ed0666 imagine we got a player called Naby Balotelli😭.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - then I’d hug the top half and leave you to the bottom…half 😂

17 Jun 2021 17:52:21
I have seen a report quoted from the steadfast president saying he has made over a million selling Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to Liverpool fc has anybody heard of this is true?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - dealing in underage players now.}

17 Jun 2021 19:07:36
I’m calling BS on this.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 19:15:32
So "if"this is true what's the situation? in terms of potential punishment?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - human trafficking carries a hefty punishment I would say

17 Jun 2021 19:31:15
Just a follow up question for Ed’s if this transfer / rumour is true would lfc face sanctions of some sort?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool cannot sign him before he is 18.}

17 Jun 2021 21:01:56
Must be just set up (price/ personal terms) for us to sign him in March when he turns 18.

17 Jun 2021 17:09:59
Afternoon Ed's,

Been a quiet few weeks really - to be expected with the euros I suppose - but would you possibly be able to give us a quick run down on who we've got an interest in/ are in early talks with for after the tournament? Mostly so I can watch them haha!

Would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

Rs15, I think that is a big NO from the Eds :D.

If you don’t ask, you don’t get! Maybe they’re feeling generous!

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 18:48:42
Rs15 unfortunately we are having to live on scraps from the Ed’s thanks to some on here trolling the pages. Which is fair enough and I can’t blame the Ed’s. There has been a big downturn in people asking on players and chat in general on here as a result sadly.

Agree4 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 19:36:44
Yeah that’s a real shame, especially for those of us that actually value what they have to say. I religiously check this page daily and it’s a shame people ruin it for us all! You’re right though, can’t blame them.

Ed002,

" Liverpool to hold talks with 22-year old PSV striker Donyell Malen. [Sky Sport]"

Nonsense or is there some truth here?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained for a number of months that Liverpool are keen.}

17 Jun 2021 14:36:41
If that’s the case I get you can put a strike through Patson Daka 😔.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 15:22:07
Regardless of the fact of who his agent is, no denying he’s one of the brightest talents in European football.

Personally I’d prefer Daka, but can’t argue against Malen being a smart signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 15:24:08
Leicester have reportedly bid for Patson Daka.

Agree2 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 17:05:19
To be honest, having not studied either of them in great detail (other than Sofifa or Youtube) they appear to be quite similar - pacy strikers who can also play out wide in a front 3.

One's done really well in the Dutch league, the other in the Austrian.

Prices quoted are not outrageous - Daka appears to be a bit cheaper at £17m vs £25m.

Has anyone seen them play regularly who could add more to the discussion? Which one would be a better fit?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - personally I think Malen would be a better fit as he’s the natural scion to Bobby, has better movement than daka yet both are rapid.

17 Jun 2021 17:17:30
I don’t see anything on sky sports about this. Is it from a h
Papers / gossip section?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 19:14:52
Ed0666 I do remember Daka giving VVD and Gomez a very hard time in a friendly against RBS, I know it was only a friendly but he stood out a mile.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - honestly mate I’d be happy with either. I like mallen as in my opinion he’d be a more seamless and integrate better to our style of play I think. And if he signed and did well it would annoy Ed 014 as he’s ex arsenal player

17 Jun 2021 20:06:40
Daka be going to Leicester.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 19:43:51
Ed's any chance that Salah / Mane will be sold this summer or will new contracts be offered instead? How will that game of chess play out, knowing how market traderesque Salah's agent is?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans to sell either.}

17 Jun 2021 20:33:50
Daka is a more natural replacement for Vardy. He’d suit Leicester more than he would suit us. I would agree with Ed that Malen is more suited to our style of play if JK intended to play him centrally.

Always going to be difficult to find a replacement for Bobby that offers the same link up, although JK may think it’s time for a change up top and to adapt our style.

We need to find a way to beat a low block more next season as that was our downfall for a good few games. Striker will be an important position to get right for that.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jun 2021 21:17:35
Malen does look a good player and decent value.
