I thought he agreed to sign with someone else?

The lad is 22. He needs to be getting regular games for the sake of his career rather than wasting his time trying to get games for us. Time for him to move on I think. Good player from the little I've seen but I'd hate for him to miss an opportunity to get weekly game time elsewhere.

{Ed002's Note - You are right. I do not know anything of such an offer from Liverpool but he would simply be taking up a squad place if he stayed - or worse be consigned to the reserves with no chance of first team football. In answer to the original question, Curtis Jones seems to be ahead of him in the pecking order and, subject to paperwork etc., Nantes are confident he will make the move he has verbally agreed.}

Pedro Chirivella has done enough to get game time elsewhere, good luck to the lad and hope you do well.

Unfortunately, I think the club are only offering him a 5 year contract with a view to protect their asset.

They'd give him 6-7 games next season, then look to sell him to the highest bidder.

Best thing for the lad to do would be to leave on a free. I wish him all the best and I think he'll have a good career as I rate him highly.

ed2 - do you have an examples in football that are equivalent to a form of sign and trade that is used in american sports? That way ensuring the 'selling' club get something back for the player.

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand the question but Liverpool and Valencia get a small amount paid for his being trained by the clubs.}

Hey Ed2, read Liverpool are interested in Talles Magno, 17 year old Brazilian I had never heard of. Any real interest or just click bait? Being that age I'm sure getting a work permit would be quite difficult.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Talles Magno (S/W) Vasco de Gama kiddie who has been subject to discussions with Lyon's Sporting Director Juninho and Real Madrid who want him to join and pair up with Reinier Jesus and Rodrygo to ease the transition. Lazio and Roma enquired after a price and were quoted €65M but it went no further than that and realistically it would need to be less than half that. Benfica, Manchester City, Braga, Liverpool, Juventus, Chelsea and Bayern Munich were impressed with him enough at the U17 World Cup to continue to watch him at club level. I would suggest the chances of him moving to Europe would be influenced by compatriots at Real Madrid or the lure of Juninho at OL. Benfica have offered the best opportunity to get through in to the first team. I cannot assess the chances of a move to any of the other sides.}

Thanks ed.

{Ed002's Note - I would note that players cannot move from Brazil until they are 18.}

Aren't Vasco de Gama really struggling financially, Ed002? I read a couple of days ago that this could make them accept a much lower offer, but I guess if there's plenty of interest, they may not need to.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Brazilian sides are struggling and as I said in the reply, realistically the price will be considerably lower than they have been asking.}

17 May 2020 18:35:54
Would we ever consider signing young Brazilians given the work permit issues?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool don't want another Allan situation obviously, so they need to be careful. The issue of being Home Grown becomes an issue at 21 in England as well - and Liverpool need to start managing that better - particularly as efforts will be made again to change the ratio.}

18 May 2020 15:00:48
Thanks for the info Ed, really interesting. I can see what you're saying with regards to Allan, however would this issue not be eased by the prospective transfer fee? Also would our strong Brazilian contingent (albeit significantly older) make Liverpool an attractive destination?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is a child who would have to suffer significant cultural changes, language issues - it would not be a good move for him but we will see. I also don't see that Liverpool would want to tie up significant money in a player who cannot move before he is 18 and would be far from the first team.}

ED002,

Hope you're well!
Is there interest from Liverpool in São Paulo's 19yr old Brazilian Gustavo Maia - seems to be valued around £4mill.
I believe that Barcelona have the first option to buy him until mid July, is that correct?
If Barcelona don't go ahead with the deal, as things have yet to progress due to the current climate, Liverpool will take advantage of the situation.
Just wanted you to please clarify if the above is some what accurate or incorrect.

Personal view - moves and plays like a young Coutinho, nice prospect.

Much appreciated
Tommy T.

{Ed002's Note - Gustavo Maia (S) Prolific Sao Paulo reserves youngster who is expected to have a very good career and has been scouted by numerous sides. Atletico Madid and Shakhtar Donetsk have tried to strike a deal but it will likely be Barcelona who will win out as they have already deposited a reserve payment - with an option to complete by making a further payment this summer. A move to England is unlikely for a number of reasons, not least he would never be Home Grown.}

I'd love to have a player at Liverpool with that name. My 11 year old daughter's name is Maia, and maybe it would pique her interest in watching Liverpool more if there was a player with that name.

Apart from that, I cannot add anymore to the conversation as I've never seen him play.
