Hey Eds and Reds,

A little late but here's my Danny Ward update after Sunday's game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Huddersfield, and Ward, suffered their first home defeat in the Championship this season as they went down 0-1 to finish the weekend 3rd in the table, outside of the automatic promotion spots on goal difference.

Before I begin Ward's performance review, it's worth noting that after 12 league games, he and his club boast a defence that no side in the division have conceded fewer goals than, so that's a major plus note for Ward as he has played every game so far.

Onto his performance, in a game that was not too dissimilar to Liverpool's against Man Utd last night. Sheff Weds came to stifle Wagner's creative, energetic side just as Mourinho did on Red Monday. Except a second half penalty saw the Owls nick a win.

That meant that, ultimately, Ward had little to do over the 90 minutes in terms of saves. He was helpless for Forestieri's well-placed penalty kick winner. Ward dived the wrong way but the Wednesday man dummied his kick well.

Aside that, Ward was beaten on one other occasion by Forestieri, as Town's defence was beaten by a simple long ball which Forestieri brought down. Ward came out to close him down but was chipped. The post came to his rescue. Truthfully it was a clever strike and it would be harsh to blame Ward. He came out well enough and made himself big. Really he caused Forestieri to miss the chance.

Other than that, he had no other meaningful shots to deal with. So onto his distribution.

His passing was largely short as Wagner wants his team to play out from the back. It was accurate and really without fault so nothing much to complain about there.

His command of the box was also good. He had one moment where he let a cross go over him but no danger ultimately came of it. He claimed crosses well and made an excellent sweeper keeper for a number of Sheff Weds' long balls forward, to which he was sharp and off his line to clear. This was his most impressive part of his performance.

One other slight blip was on one occasion when he came to close down a Wednesday attacker, he left himself a little stranded and almost allowed the opposition in for a chance.

Overall, he wasn't helped by Wednesday being capable of exploiting a sluggish centre back pairing for Town that on more than one occasion failed to deal with simple punts over the top. Ward had to be alert and concentrated for the whole game as Town had the vast majority of the ball and Wednesday had little territory near Ward's goal.

A disappointing result in the end but Ward was not to blame and he had a largely sound game. He continued to impress and he has said this week that he hopes to stake a claim in the Liverpool side going forward.

He's doing his chances little harm at Huddersfield, and hopefully he continues to avoid injury, maintain form and keep his place in the team. The experience he is gaining, in a side managed by a man who knows Klopp very well, will no doubt be invaluable for him.

Thanks Reid the Red. Watched the game as I have a soft spot for Huddersfield having worked there and attended a few games. Spot on with the review of the game. Nothing Danny Ward could of done with the penalty as it was well placed. Hoping they can have as good a season as we do, would be nice to se them in the premier, though financially they aren't as well set up as some of the competition.
YNWA.

Thanks mate for the very thorough update. One question - is he being used as a sweeper keeper (German style where the keeper positions himself further upfield) or as a traditional goalkeeper?
