Napoli's move for Julio Cesar has fallen through so they will now turn their attention to Pepe Reina. Fully expect him to go as Mignolet is here to replace him.

Believable43 Unbelievable13

Let Napoli take him

Agree7 Disagree3

For the 12-15 million being qouted imo it isn't a bad bit of business seeings reinas gone of the boil a bit

Agree3 Disagree1

12-15 million? I would take that for Pepe. Mignolet will be the number 1 choice now anyway.

Agree2 Disagree0

Maybe Rafa could do us a favour and take both Reina and Skirtle for 25m . Then we could go for Bernard and Papadopoulos.

Agree5 Disagree1

Sell him for 12-15 mil is a great bit of buisness now, however the rumours are its a loan deal which would be the stupidest move ever!

Agree2 Disagree0

Its a loan deal

Agree2 Disagree1

The Echo are reporting that Pepe is signing up for a one year loan deal at Napoli.

It should out well enough for all parties, as it'll keep him available for Barcelona next year.

Agree2 Disagree0

If we can get 12-15 for him then a good deal for us, been a great player for us but definitely no been his best the last couple of seasons

25 million wouldn't come close to covering the cost of Papadopalous and Bernard, Bernard would cost is a huge fee to move him away from brazil, although would love to see them both join no matter how slim the chances

Agree1 Disagree0

Done deal, loan for one year
£5m off the books
Good deal, well done reds
Good luck and thanks Pepe

Agree2 Disagree1

Done deal, loan for one year
£5m off the books
but not a good deal, should of sold not loaned,
in a years time he'll be worth less, take the transfer fee.
anyway.
good luck and thanks pepe

Agree0 Disagree0

A loan deal!? Oh my god have we not learned from our previous bad experiences of loaning players to Italian clubs? This is just stupid, he is worth at least 10million of any clubs money so what do we do? Loan him out! Absolutely ridiculous piece of business, if he isn't going to stay why not just SELL him? Maybe I don't understand the transfer process well enough but I don't see any other team loaning out good 30 year old players who are surplus to requirements - they might of got inflated wages off the books but if they sold him it would of also brought in a minimum of 10million to add to the coffers. Instead we have a loan deal with no guarantees of a purchase and, if he has a bad season, we have an asset who will likely lose half his current valuation. Well played Liverpool, another outstanding piece of business.

Agree0 Disagree1

Reina to Napoli (But on loan?) shows you exactly where Liverpool's finances are- All players bought in this summer came about on the back of Carroll and co leaving! No money for Enrik -Mik - Beaten to other targets because it all rests on selling Suarez for maximum amount - that's the reality by he looks of things - Keep up the good work Eds YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

We are such a soft touch. Another loan deal. Napoli just got £55m for Cavani. Why not make teams buy our players? {Ed002's Note - Reina was second choice for them and they were only ever looking to loan a player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Loan deal only works if we feel Barca would pay more in a years time. Would have preferred to sell this season and use the cash to land CB and full backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe if we don't get 4th Next year, BR will go, and RAFA can bring back Reina with him to LFC

Agree0 Disagree2

20 Jul 2013 10:44:31
I understand we are rebuilding and Renias wages will be saved but that's the only think we will get out of it.We should sell him use the money to buy some of the first teamers that BR claims we are looking at.A totally pointless deal we are now left with a poor quality back up keeper again and no real completion for the keepers spot.

Why do we continue to get turned over in the transfer market.

Clee Red

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think its a bad move. If we couldn't sell him then get him oht on loan. It's no good having him as backup as his value will only decrease.
He will be back with Benetiz and his old gk coach so he might perform really well and increase his value for next years sale

We have made a bid of around £14m for Kyriakos Papadopoulos according to Sportinglife. Not sure how reliable the information is; I guess we'll see in the coming days.

Believable59 Unbelievable25

That probably wouldn't be enough for him either way, so doesn't matter.

Agree2 Disagree2

Pure gossip and nothing more, Papa transfer is still extremely unlikely given his injury record and inflated fee - not sure 14million will be enough for schalke even if reports are true.

Agree3 Disagree0

We won't bid unless coates or Martin S leaves

Agree0 Disagree2

Ive seen that myself. Hope its true!

Agree2 Disagree0

Not happening

Agree0 Disagree2

Prior to this knee surgery, he had a total time of 2 weeks out injured in his career. Verification that the surgery was successful should be reasonable assurance that he's not an injury risk.

SpudRed

Agree2 Disagree0

Would be made up if Papadopoulous joins. Yes, he had an injury. Agger's had his problems over the years too and look how he turned out. Having both in defence would be excellent.

Agree2 Disagree0

I feel a bit sorry for Skrtel in all this, after all it's not as if he's done much wrong. But, if we sign the Greek I'd soon forget about skrtel, papadopolous and agger would be a pretty amazing partnership, both good on the ball and one a pretty scary psychopath who's also great in the air despite not being all that tall for a CB!

Agree0 Disagree1

Skrtel's attitude has been poor - he feels he should be on a much higher wage packet and has resultingly been more focused on these issues than his actual football. As a result his form suffered and he was poor last season. If he gets his head together he'll be worth keeping but if he is still harbouring dreams of 100k per week then its best he move on as soon as possible.

Agree0 Disagree1

Apparently Skrtel had a tiff with Rodgers last season which is why he suddenly found himself on the bench. No mystery considering he was top class before this occurred.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just a bit concerned about signing an injured player myself.Carroll and Aqualani were injured when we bought them and they did not do us much good.

Hi ed you have speculated before that RM would like to offload some players maybe in p/e. Would Alonso or coentrao be among these? I only ask about Coentrao as we do need a left back, he plays the style of football BR likes and he is very talented, although I'm well aware we might struggle to tempt him to move here.
If any offer of these two plus a small fee came in for LS then I personally would think that was a fair deal

Thanks,

Puzzled Red {Ed002's Note - Both could be available. Whether or not Coentrao would be interested would be something I cannot answer. He would not want to simply sit on the bench.}

Believable14 Unbelievable10

There is rumours that eriksen agreed a £18million deal lol. Why does Liverpool have to be brought into such crap. We all know how Brendan does his business .

Agree1 Disagree1

Coentrao would be a nice addition, as he is offensive LB, and could be rotated with Enrique, as they are suitable for different opponents. However, this is just my opinion, in all reality I don't see us interested in him.
Alonso, would have loved him a year or two ago, but I am getting a feeling that the time for his return might be well passed, and that he wouldn't fit in the system.

Drigan

Agree2 Disagree2

Coentrao would be first choice left back.

Agree1 Disagree0

Coentrao better than Enrique

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jul 2013 18:32:47
Wow coentrao what a thought love this guy I think he's really underrated Suarez + 20 mill deal nice

Agree0 Disagree1

Coentrao would be a quality addition to the side. He has the pace for the style we play with attacking fullbacks.

Red Rum

Agree1 Disagree0

Alonso wouldn't fit into our system? He plays for Spain who are the implementers of the style we are striving to play and he has been sensational in that role for god knows how long now. If Gerrard isn't past it neither is Xabi.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sure, but I am not sure whether Alonso and Stevie would click on the field as they used to. The only option is if Stevie moves further upfield into the AM position, but I am not sure if he has the energy and physique to cut it there, and BR seems to be looking for a genuine AM player for there. So, what's the point to take in Xabi as competition for Stevie, and stalling the development of Allen and Hendo?
Coentrao, not too sure of him defensively, I also like what he offers attackingly, but would he cut it in defense?

Drigan

Agree3 Disagree0

Coentrao would be a great addition IMO, great going forward, goo link play with wingers and midfield going forward, and has been use in DM at real
In the past so would provide cover for Lucas if needed in midfield

Shame it won't happen

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2013 01:15:58
Drigan spot on mate. They could maybe play together in a 2, but they occupy exactly the same place in a midfield three!
Welshboydave

Agree1 Disagree0

Xabi would Fit back in are Team no problem, to say he is past it is rubbish. He can sit in the midfield and spray the ball anywhere on the field, best passer of the ball in the world ( in my opinion anyway ). He still has a good 4-5 years left in him, maybe even longer, look at scholes, makelele, great midfielders who played at the top level til over 35 years of age

Flintshire Red

P.s I would love to see him back at the club, but I still don't think it will happen, would make my day if it did

Hi eds, Gorkhan Inler's agent is claiming that there has been a bid for his client from a "prestigious" English club. Any idea who?

Cheers {Ed002's Note - I understand that an offer was rejected from an a certain English side that has had sustained interest for several months, but it is not Liverpool. Inler remains keen to stay where he is, and Benitez is a great supporter of the player.}

Believable7 Unbelievable4

It was arsenal

Agree1 Disagree1

He said a prestigious English club.theres only 2 of them and one isn't arsenal.

Eds and reds,
Could you tell me the amount of interest Liverpool has shown in Miralem Pjanic and Jorginho please? {Ed002's Note - (A) None. (B) Perhaps an enquiry.}

Believable3 Unbelievable11

Brendan Rodgers has said he wants one more offensive player.
Liverpool tried to get Henrikh Mkhitaryan but wouldn't pay what was being asked.
So logic dictates we are looking for players who are alternatives to Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
That means a attacking midfielder with quality pace and technique.
We have recently been linked with Kevin Prince Boateng and Hatem Ben Arfa.
I imagine Liverpool will be going for either one of these targets.

Agree1 Disagree9

19 Jul 2013 12:15:11
Ed002, you mentioned earlier that RM are expecting Liverpool to ask for Morata as a part of any Suarez deal - but do you know how things stand on Liverpool's side of the fence, and if we are genuinely interested in Morata?

Drigan {Ed002's Note - I don't know, but it is clear the kid is not interested in a move. A loan would be unlikely as he would not move to sit on the bench.}

Believable0 Unbelievable14

Yeah, makes sense. Sad, because he was the only player from RM I would take on exchange - well, and maybe Coentrao, but he wouldn't come too.

Thanks, ed
Drigan

Agree0 Disagree2

Think we should avoid part exchange and be looking for cash only, 45mil minimum. If Real don't want it fine, we should not sell ourselves short just because Suarez has acted like a plank.

Do we hold any interest in Djuricic from Assaidi's former club? {Ed002's Note - Heerenveen's Filip Djuricic should have completed his move to Benfica by now after rejecting interest from AC Milan and the attention of a number of sides with Schalke and Manchester United making little effort to hide their interest. I understand that Milan had spoken with Marco Van Basten about the player but concerns existed that he would not be ready for the more major European leagues at this time.}

Believable1 Unbelievable10

He moved to Benfica earlier this month, as a replacement for Pablo Aimar.

Eds any interest in Sakho? PSG are on the verge of signing Marquinhos, and he is 4th or 5th in the pecking order now. Great player imo {Ed002's Note - Sakho is on the list of targets for Monaco. Arsenal and Lyon have sustained interest in Sakho and there is some interest from Newcastle, Inter Milan, Manchester City and possible interest lingering interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Baader has explained that AC Milan and Liverpool have recently enquired about his availability but PSG are not keen on selling and the player is keen to stay. However, Laurent Blanc remains concerned about his attitude and would be willing to let him move on - that could be facilitated after the departure of Leonardo who had been lending him support. Would be an excellent buy if Agger or Skrtel were to move on, and not out of the question.}

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I wish we'd sign him without either of those leaving. Skrtel has been disappointing since he won player of the year unfortunately.

Agree1 Disagree0

Be great if we did sign him but sadly it seems unlikely, still would be a much safer investment than Papa and is arguably a better player - we can but hope.

Agree0 Disagree1

19 Jul 2013 08:55:07
Hi eds great work. In the papers today its saying arsenal will pay the 40mill for suarez but am I right in thinking that this is only to talk to the player, we don't actually have to sell him? Its also saying we want 55 mill. Music to my ears, about time we grew a back bone regarding other clubs wanting our players.
Also being reported Napoli want Reina so if he goes would we move for QPRs Julio Cesar?
Finally, Agger to barca. I hope not, this would undo all BRs great work and trying to gel a new back line would be a nightmare even if we are srted attack wise. Is the agger rumour true and who could we possibly replace him with {Ed002's Note - (a) We have no interest in discussing the money - it does nothing but confuse. (b) Napoli wanted Cesar - ideally on loan. Seemingly their is an issue and QPR are after a fee Napoli do not wish to pay. As such they might well look to Reina. Mignolet has already arrived to replace PR so I would not think Cesar would move to sit on the bench. (c) As has been explained, if Barcelona's first choice was not available then they would likely turn to Agger - this everyone has known of for weeks. As a replacement, probably one of those players that has been discussed at length.}

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Liverpool will not sell Agger! Don't worry but Skrtel could potentially be on the move.

Agree3 Disagree0

FSG would never dare to sell two Liverpool first team players to Arsenal. There'd be a riot.
The Juicer

Agree1 Disagree0

A colleague at work told me this same story, then he added that it's from the s*n so I'm completely ignoring.

I hope you haven't bought a copy of that horrible rag and then posted this after reading it?

Agree1 Disagree0

Essentail we hold onto Agger - if we can't then our rebuild is enormous and could take seasons until we're back in the CL, we have to keep Agger - he is world class and has been a rock for us for years, will be very sad if we lose our best defender in his prime and will be almost impossible to replace, really hope it doesn't happen but can any player ignore the overtures of Barca or Real?

Agree1 Disagree0

19 Jul 2013 04:40:52
have Liverpool or any other club shown interest in josip illicic from palermo. {Ed002's Note - He will almost certainly be moving to Fiorentina.}

Believable2 Unbelievable4

19 Jul 2013 04:21:30
Do you see Emre Can leaving Bayern Munich now that they have so many midfielders? Will we be interested as we have to find a cover for Lucas {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest and he is not a player they are looking to sell.}

Believable3 Unbelievable8

19 Jul 2013 01:09:01
Looks like Barca will come calling for Agger now. Marquinhos is on his way to PSG and Thiago Silva has now come out and said he will remain in France for one more season at least. I am seriously worried we will lose Agger and this worries me even more then Suarez going. There is ridiculous money being spent this Summer, it is getting rather silly now.
The Gooch.

Believable23 Unbelievable12

No way in hell will Liverpool sell Agger for a poxy £12M when we turned down double from Cty last season, I really hope he stays.

Agree3 Disagree1

Time and time again clubs keep on bidding for Agger, but he always rejects the move because he loves Liverpool

Hence why he got YNWA tattooed on his knuckles

Agree3 Disagree2

Get real everyone, if Barce show a real interest in Agger then I'm sorry but we just need to try and negotiate the best deal we can for him. Like Reina, why would you deny him the chance to play in 'that' team after the years of loyalty he's given us.

And just like Suarez, no-one is bigger than the club. We will move forward with or without those two, or anyone else that decides to leave.

How would we EVER replace Keegan when he wentto Hamburg? By signing the best player we've ever had.

How would we ever replace Rush? By signing a carbon copy of him (right down to the 'stache) - note: I don't think we should've signed Rush back from Juve and let Aldo go but that's another story!

Swigger

Agree2 Disagree1

Hi all, my first post. Love your work ed's, Big D the worry from the Agger point of view and whilst I agree he is a red through and through, his contract now has less time on it than last year and therefore he is devalued.

Agree0 Disagree1

The "silly money" is exactly right. In global terms I think only the Mancs are above us in England and yet smaller clubs like City, Chavski, the Arse (ok, big stadium) and the Spuds are spending well above their corporate means. F.F.P. is taking far too long to come and stop this stupidity. {Ed002's Note - You don't seem to have any grasp of finance or the FFP rules at all. Of all of the clubs you mention only two were in breach of the FFP guidance for last season - and one of those is Liverpool.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If he knows he will be playing regular football at LFC, I can't see him going, especially as (like others have said) he turned down City and big wages before! £12m is a joke anyway, given his fitness problems have greatly improved recently.

Agree0 Disagree0

He does love LFC but while I think we have a good chance of keeping him, it is Barcelona we are talking about, not Man city.

If they offered an amount the club thought was worth it £20 million perhaps I do think he would consider moving

Gareth

Agree0 Disagree0

Well considering we rejected 25m for an injury-prone Agger last season, I can't see a fully fit Agger going for half of that a season later. 30m and we'll talk, can't see Barca bidding that though. Cheers.
ROI.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really wouldn't sell agger for anywer near 30 mill he is one player irriplacable . I wouldn't sell him full stop for any amount of money he is a big part of are team suarez holds us back losing agger would take that gain away from us in we would have a better together team working for all and not for one .and a new defence witch takes time to gel to be strong its to risky for 30 mill 58mil more than suarez 55 that's my value

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd refuse to sell him, he is essential for our ambitions and is a one of a kind defender who we could not replace. I hope he doesn't leave but if Barca come calling I don't see how he can remain regardless of how much he loves the club - if he must be sold then we should insist on 30million, it at least gives us the funds to find a replacement defender close to his standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agger is worth £20 million easily, especially if Papadapa is £18 million and Lescott cost how much?

Suarez is one of the best footballers around and just scored 30 goals and made 14 assists so he's easily a £50 million pound man. We don't want to sell and have lengthy contract for both players, tough if they ''want to go'' the other clubs need to pay through the nose.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jul 2013 18:48:34
Ed002, was the other one Chelsea? UTD AND Arsenal shouldn't be any where near breaking FFP. {Ed002's Note - Manchester City.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds02. Obviously I have it wrong. I thought clubs were restricted not spending above their means. I was under the impression the idea was to reel in mega rich owner buying success, spending big money and making sure clubs can stand somewhere near their income. If the Russian and the Arab walk away, could Chelsea and City financially meet their commitments? We don't spend big, have a massive following, pay huge season ticket prices and yet we have broken the FFP rules? You are right, I don't get it! {Ed002's Note - Liverpool's turnover is far less than that of Chelsea and the club has lost £1M a week since the owners arrived. Manchester City are out there spending what they wish.}

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no doubt that Agger loves Liverpool regardless of what tattoos he has where and he isn't a player that would run and chase money as proved last Summer when he turned down City but I feel with Barca it will just be all too tempting an offer, in footballing terms that is. Agger is now roughly 28? Is that correct? What he now has to comprehend is does he give the remaining years of his prime to a Liverpool team in transition full of young players with potential or does he join one of the best sides in the world and challenge for La Liga and Champions Leagues each year. He will know he has maybe 2-3 years in his prime left. Realistically will Liverpool be title challengers in 3 years time? I don't think so at the moment. If we were back in Champions League at that stage I would be delighted.
