Hi eds can you say what's happening with skrtel. I see reports saying he has now not signed the new contract but are you aware if an agreement has been reached or if the club had offered him a better deal after the initial 'unacceptable' offer. I have to say my heart sank a little yesterday when news that he had signed a deal came through. It just seems like every decision the club is making now is a mistake and we are not looking like turning a corner

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware nothing has been signed by Skrtel. There was some kind of agreement reached, but I am not aware what that might be, and he is on holiday at the moment (if I remember correctly) so can't sign just yet. I don't even know if the agreement is for him to sign or for him to part ways with us. From what I was told of his demands, I am dubious that the agreement would be for him to sign to be perfectly honest. He seems to be wanting a pay rise, though I find it hard to believe that he could honestly think he deserves one.}

Skittles has denied signing a new contract,here's hoping

Ffs give the guy a break, if he had a decent defensive mid in front of him it would help. At least he shows some balls and aggression!

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - so did Ruddock and Dicks, but they were still awful.}

19 Jun 2015 20:21:36
Haha Ruddock

Im all for a new partnership not involving Skertal and as he's the most senior and longest servant as a CB he is in theory the big dog in the yard. It would be hard for anyone to come in and tell Skertal to cover there, do that, push up etc.
Thats his job and he doesn't do it.

Lol I get ha Ed, skittles ain't awfull though imo. He does drop deep at times but he's in bad company most the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not just that he drops off, if he just dropped off then his partners in the backline would be able to cope without needing some communication with him. It is because one second he drops off too deep, the next he holds, then a second later he is charging out, only to then drop deep. All without a single shout or call to warn team mates what he intends to do. So they are left having to check his position and then risk getting caught out looking away as their man makes a move, or they can just hold the position they think is right and risk being exposed as he drops deep or rushes out.}

Hahaha. Skittles. Errr. Red. An. Yellow an pink an green. Unreal.

I truly hope Skrtel leaves as DM or not his lack of awareness will keep costing us points. At least Lovren seems decent with a DM but my wish would be to give Ilori and Sakho some time pre season to see if they gel. Ed001 I know you've said it seems likely Ilori will leave but if he has a great tournament do you see any hope for him or has br already decided he's gone?

19 Jun 2015 17:57:46
Hi eds,

With the reds having a large amount of centre backs on the books, about to sign another one! And have given new contracts to skrtle, wisdom and toure, do you see either lovren of sakho getting moved on?
Particularly lovren who struggled last season?

Ps I don't want sakho to leave but you can't second guess the mind of rogers

Thanks eds

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - no, Wisdom will play right back not in the centre.}

19 Jun 2015 19:22:38
Thanks ed,

I'm assuming that's as back up to clynn if we get him. (wisdom)
Hopefully given a run in the Europa + domestic cups.
I was hoping a senior centre half might move on giving a chance for a youth player to break through.
Keeping skrtle, toure and lovren who are all average is confusing at best

Hi eds . Sorry if asked before I just wondered if sterling had actually handed in an official transfer request. I know he wants to go and almost certainly will but after hearing money has nothing to do with the move thought he would be ok with giving away his 5 % ??? Of the transfer.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he has not handed in an official transfer request, but there is more to it than money and always has been.}

19 Jun 2015 20:11:00
Hi ed. is it all to do with what we have read
In the papers about a crap agent and the fallout with Rogers? Do you lot know what the fallout was all about?can you please elaborate? Thanks
Magsy. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is to do with wanting to play in the Champions League on a regular basis and win league trophies, rather than ending up like Gerrard, missing out on it by sticking with us. It is to do with not trusting Rodgers to play him regularly in the position that is felt to be his best. It is also to do with being annoyed with the comments made publicly about his contract turning people against him. Also it is his agent stirring the pot and making it impossible for him to stay without sacking him. It is never just one thing, I am sure he would also welcome a pay rise, but it is not all about money.}

NZONZI

Have Liverpool shown an interest in Nzonzi? Tall, aggressive player with Premiership experience that won't cost much (think about 6mill). Will be a great addition to our squad.

Gossip down the pub:-

Hearing that Borini is interesting a number of clubs on a return to Serie A. Bologna and also Lazio are interested apparently.

It's a shame it's not really worked out for him, I'd hoped he'd force his way into the team or certainly have more of an impact after his spell at Sunderland.

I played golf with a retired freelance journalist who still has his ear to the ground. I asked him about Stirling and as we all know is agent is absolutely terrible altho its just been explained how bad!! One client only type kid, but apparently Stirling never pushed for a move and would have signed and may still possibly sign a new contract. he's been advised to ditch his agent and reconsider options and he's aware playing time will be massively reduced if he moves on. Unfortunately for him Liverpool have all but lost patience with him and won't deal with the agent. If he'd signed when it was offered he'd already be about 2 mill richer now. Keeping him till his contract ends will cost him 9/10mill in lost earnings and bonuses. Appeares Liverpool have well and truly got the upper hand. And will sell

those splinters from the fence can be sore!!! What your saying if you were Sterling you would have signed the contract for the potential loss of earnings. Perhaps give up golf!!

"may still possibly sign a new contract" and "And will sell"

Sell him. An offer of £50 million would be too good to turn down. Give QPR their share and then invest the rest in some quality players.

TDH, I keep wondering that too and won't get into the different ways Skrtel's name has been spelt either! You can't blame auto-correct for Raheem's second name, as Sterling is a word, just like Stirling is!

HI Eds. I see it is being reported Skrtel has signed a new three year contract. Is this true?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is agreed, not sure if he has actually signed it yet though.}

This summer just gets worse and worse.

Agree4 Disagree1

19 Jun 2015 09:54:03
No, he didn't sign it yet. He is on holiday. The information that he signed was based on fake facebook account but it is not true. Inter Milan was interested in him. But the expectation is he will stay in Liverpool. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 11:16:41
Adam what has been so bad about the summer so far may I ask? I also would like Skrtel replaced with Bartra or somebody else but what else are you referring to? The weather? Milner & Ings are both good signings and Bogdan replacing Jones, while entirely uninspiring, isn't actually bad.

Agree2 Disagree1

19 Jun 2015 13:01:47
That, and the fact that the transfer window isn't even open yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 13:04:22
Bad summer because we've kept on an inept manager when we could have approached Klopp. We've rewarded mediocrity once again by giving Skrtel a new contract. We've signed Milner who we don't need. We've signed a Championship level goalie when we needed a new number 1. We also seem to have lost out on a great player like Kovacic. We have Lambert, Borini, Balotelli and a frequently injured Sturridge in attack so we sign a kid from Burney who scored about 11 goals in one season. That's why I think it's been a bad summer, Kev. A team like Liverpool should be at least aiming for the Champions League, but really we should be aiming to win trophies, we're not going to do that based on this summer's activities.

Agree1 Disagree1

19 Jun 2015 15:23:22
Except Klopp isn't available yet and Skrtel has been offered a crap contract that he won't sign, which will hopefully lead to his sale and replacement.
We don't need Milner? He will bring MUCH needed experience along with ability to our midfield. I don't have great faith in Mignolet but the money for a new number one is needed more elsewhere.
Who said we've missed out on Kovacic and how often have you actually seen him play? Ings will be the best backup striker we've had for a while, better than Borini & Aspas of course, he reminds me a bit of Bellamy and 11 goals ain't actually bad for a relegation club.
Buyers will hopefully be found for Borini & Balotelli with another striker coming in and Sterling's replacement is a very important piece of business (crossing my fingers for Firmino).
You seem to be a bit overly negative about everything, it's only June, as RE said, the window isn't even open yet. Have a little patience.

Agree2 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 17:30:45
How is the money for a new number 1 needed more elsewhere? De Gea is the reason United got into the top 4 last season. Goalies save countless points a year. Mignolet is one of the weakest links in our team, a new goalkeeper is the first thing I would be spending money on.

"Sorted has been offered a crap contract that he won't sign" - I'm pretty sure football clubs don't work like that.

Klopp isn't available? I'm pretty sure he's without a club now and has never been more approachable. But even if he wasn't available, keeping an idiot like Rodgers still constitutes a bad summer in my eyes.

I've seen him play a lot, Kovacic and I think he's going to be a cracking player who we've missed out on.

"Ings will be the best back up striker we've had in a while" - exactly, a back up striker. We shouldn't be signing "back up" strikers, we should be signing strikers to improve our first 11. For a team like Burnley 11 goals isn't bad, but once again, he's had ONE season to prove himself and we sign him when we should be turning our attention to signing first team players. I'm "overly" negative because I have a winning mentality and I want to see Liverpool win things, I'm not content with the mediocrity they are once again subjecting themselves to.

Eds, hi!

Metro talking up Liverpool interest in Illarramendi - anything in it?

Would you be able to disclose which players the club is actually actively pursing currently? Possibles and probables?

Many thanks as always,

Rob

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - he is looking to leave Madrid, but that is about all that is happening right now. This is just someone drumming up some interest in him, to try and get him a move. Personally I think he will be a late window mover, for a club that has explored all its other options, due to the way he has underperformed, his high wages and likely transfer fee. So you will probably have to get used to seeing him linked with clubs over the next month or two.}

19 Jun 2015 10:22:22
Thanks Ed!

Are we considering him?

The only other players I am clear we are pursuing are Clyne, Kovacic, Gomez - and Macca has mentioned Konoplyanka although we've seen nothing more since.

Anyone else we have confirmed interest in?

Even if we don't go for all of these it looks like we will add quite a few again this window especially if we do still go for an experienced prolific striker?

Ta as always,

Rob

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - like I said he is looking to leave but there has been little real interest, despite his reps making sure to link him with us and Arsenal. Maybe later in the window when other players have moved or can't be obtained he might become a target, but I would not hold my breath on that.

Confirmed interest? No. A lot of the stories are players looking for a move and so being linked or online hacks needing to whore for clicks and so making up stories.}

19 Jun 2015 11:12:37
Great responses Ed with a definite ring of truth. From Liverpool's perspective I'd say Illarramendi is way down the list of targets after another midfielder, right-back, left-back, striker and Sterling replacement. He'll probably end up at West Ham on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 11:54:14
Great responses Ed, ta.

RedKev, do we really need more mids, RBs and LBs? We have Moreno, Enrique, Flano, Wisdom, possibly Manquillo - Clyne if he signs.

Mids are in abundance as we know, and we now have Milner, possibly Kovacic or Kono from what we are reading.

Strikers, without a doubt. With the business we have already done & rumoured to be about to do, I would say we should spend whatever the club is available to afford on the best striker they can possibly get to come in. But I'm just a fan, not FSG/LFCs accountant ;)

I guess we have to see how things play out with Sterling as this possibly determines how much of what will be available to spend, eh?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 13:14:21
Well Clyne is the RB I'm referring to, Flanagan won't be fit until Janury at the earliest and Enrique needs to be replaced asap. Personally I don't think Kovacic should be a priority. I would like Skrtel replaced and Firmino & Aubameyang to come in with Sterling, Borini & Balotelli leaving.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 14:13:48
I agree that we need a striker but if the right one isn't available then I think we would be best bringing in another creative forward like firmino to aid the strikers we already have. I think we will try to sell borini and balotelli regardless but if we can't get a striker I can see lambert staying, leaving us with lambert ings origi sturridge and sinclair. If only firmino is available I would rather have a team with coutinho and firmino behind these guys instead of going out and spending big on the likes of dzeko or benteke who don't suit at all, just to satisfy the fan's plee for a striker. Just an opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Jun 2015 15:01:58
Fair shout.

Not that this would necessarily be Rodgers' modus operandi but Kovacic would be a good shout to play from deep. We've got Can, so I don't see why we would need Konplyanka other than for depth should Can be injured but Kovacic would give us the option of a more attacking creative set up. If we need a big man in front of the CB(s) then bring on Can. We've got Lucas and Allen as back up there, but I would see Kovacic as an upgrade on either of them. Tough for Lucas although I recall he did say he was happy to be a squad player a few seasons ago.

Do you see anyhitng happening with ARDA and Liverpool?
