It is unbelievable how Fernando Torres has won a double in his first full season at Chelsea. I've got nothing against him or even Chelsea but we need to get back to where we belong...but one thing is for sure, we'll need a lot of investment for it as Roman Abramovich has thrown a lot for this. Even Manchester City will win it one day so I just hope FSG dig deep and get us to the top....Not many teams out there who don't spend much and win the Champions League...

Congrats Ed002 :)

Red PG {Ed002's Note - Thanks. The kids did well.}

Well done Chelsea.
I have watched two finals today and the teams that actually played football lost.

G G

It's a mentality that's wins it -maybe Rafa has that mentality -come on you reds who ever takes over - well done Chelsea talk about having your name written on the trophy !

Dig Deep? I can't say for certain as I honestly don't know, but my gut feeling is that the owners have "dug" about as deep as they are going to. I hope I'm totally wrong but that is my gut feeling.

I remember being berated by some posters for suggesting that when the new owners took over that unless they had 1/2 a billion to spend on players that our club would struggle and constantly remain behind the eight ball, playing "catch-up" will become even more difficult with the introduction of the "fair play" rules ... and if anybody was in any doubt, we are definitely playing catch-up!

People bemoan City's riches and look at their expenditure, and in turn say - "they bought the title", well yes whilst they spent big, and probably will look to spend big again (fair play rules??), the reality of their situation was that to achieve anything they needed to buy players and plenty of them ...their squad at the time was far worst then ours, but they had the liquid capital and invested ...do our owners?

I honestly think we need six (6) more quality players before we can contemplate becoming a Title winning team, I say title, because as a fan that's what I want to win, I don't want us to settle for being a Champions League qualifying team every year, something that the owners I'm sure would be happy with; admittedly that would be an improvement but why aim for fourth? aim for the top and let's see what eventuates.

Abramovich has won his "golden dream" tonight so it will be interesting which way he approaches things next season - does he settle for that and contentedly lets things tick? over or does he "attack" the season with renewed vigour, open the cheque book and tries to win everything? if it is the latter then perhaps we may slip even further behind.

Glum and depressing...yes! but also realistic! I believe that the appointment of our next manager, and the financial backing he is or isn't given is SO important for our club that it will determine the next decade - from being a mid table team who might break even every year and is financial "safe" but won't win anything, or a team that improves, shows consistency and brings back that attractive feel to the club (by attractive I mean to players).

I hope and pray that the owners aren't simply another false dawn!

long time liverpool supporter just wanna say well done chelsea for boring me to death but even more so for knocking the spuds out the champs league,,, guess there gonna be loosing a few players now

19 May 2012 22:59:23
well done chelsea and ed 002 youse battled for that.

gee man {Ed002's Note - They did well. And a good night for Liverpool - four games less, a later start and straight in to the group stage. And a surprise to see Mr Abramovich to the front and centre.}

The way our club is at the moment Ed. That 4 games less could be massive.

Have a good night Ed002, go easy on the Tia Maria's and lucozade.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Plus, Bayern failed to move alongside us on 5 European Cups.

We have to play the last qualifying round, apparently...

KKM..

Double superb then hadn't realized we would advance so much though I was looking forward to watching the qualifiers in the pub on holiday !

We haven't advanced at all, we are in qualifying round 3, we have 2 rounds to get through to make group stages, tonight changed nothing. {Ed002's Note - It seems UEFA have instructed the FA that Liverpool cannot take advantage of the FA Cup runner up position as they won the League Cup which is a qualifying event.}

Ed002 are you sure - the Wiki page on Europa league 12-13 has moved Spurs to the group stage, Newcastle to 4th round, us still in 3rd round? {Ed002's Note - Seemingly UEFA has apparently said no based on the League Cup being a qualifying competition.}

Never thought, i'd be so happy for a chelsea win.

Yea - like KKM said I have seen some people saying we still need to do the qualifying round. Something about Spurs getting chelsea's FA Cup final spot since Chelsea have taken their CL spot. I had assumed it would be in line with Ed002 said but apparently not. Are you able to clarify any further Eds? {Ed002's Note - It appears that UEFA have blocked to move for Liverpool to qualify as FA Cup runners up and are forcing qualification to be via the Carling Cup route. I have just been told that they claim this is nothing to do with them but because the FA assign the League Cup as a qualifying competition, their hands are tied.}

So do we go straight to the group stages don't understand? thanks. {Ed002's Note - It appears not.}

19 May 2012 22:41:29
Question ed.. Since stoke got the auto Europa spot as fa runners up last year cause city was in the cl do Liverpool get the auto as well? And not having to play qualifiers?

True red {Ed002's Note - Yes - this is a successful night for Liverpool - four games less, a later start and straight in to the group stage.}

Is this definate, as ive heard different {Ed002's Note - Read the other posts where there is further discussion.}

Does that mean Cardiff gets our old spot?

Arjen Robben is by far the most overrated player in the world. How can he be worth 30 million?

BthekingB

I think he's a selfish player, tries doing everything himself and never passes.

I agree. Cut inside, faint, faint then faint again then shoot. Skying it or bring blocked over and over again.

Papa G

A very selfish player! If he's worth £30million, then any Carroll is def worth £35million!

He is also a wimp when he missed that pen in injury time he hadn't got the bottle to take one in the shootout same against madrid. zachary

He's obviously a very good player, if you watched him more than once a season you might form a different opinion.

He is very good compared to downing and henderson and he works very hard for the team, look at who he has played for and i think their managers know more than you.

He is in fact a quality player

He's not ! Ha ha what a ---- head

Is he not free this summer? {Ed002's Note - No.}

Robben may be a little overrated, but Franck Ribery is wildly overrated- awful player against Madrid, awful against Chelsea

Some of the people here won't know quality wingers if they came and stabbed them in the eye! These same people probably agreed with the signing of Downing! Paaaah

Why does it seem there is no interest in hoilet he's young and seems so be exactly what we need a goal scoring midfield player? He's available for free why is there no interest from us? There's no player profile on him either so I'm confussed as to why, can you enlighten me atall eds? {Ed002's Note - Reading, Spurs, Sunderland, Newcastle, Stoke, Arsenal and possibly Aston Villa and QPR have been interested - plus a couple of clubs from Germany, including Bayern Munich, and Marseille from France. I understand that Roma have dropped their interest after an offer of a pre-contract agreemnent was spurned. The English sides were at a disadvantage in the chase for Hoilett now as he is in to the last six months of his contract and he can talk to interested parties from outside of England but as time moves on that is becoming less of an issue. Blackburn will offer him a new deal but I doubt he will be interested, in the same way as a move to Reading, Aston Villa or Stoke is unlikely. If pushed, I would say North London or foreign shores are the most likely destinations - and I do expect him to leave this summer.}

No manager= no interest in any players

Because we have no manager

We don't have anyone in the club to buy him!
No manager or dof. Ian ayre isn't going to pick the team is he?

There can still be interest from before which is what I was asking for, I was pushing for an answer more to the reason we wouldn't have interest for example he's not a good trainer etc. As I believe we should be interested but te eds never say we are I was wondering as to the reason of our lack of interest. Thanks for the reply would appreciate another if anything can be added eds {Ed001's Note - why should we be interested? He isn't good enough.}

Lots of effort on that first post and cleared stuff up nice for me ed002. thanks
dont like chelsea at all but congrats! i thought it was meant to be for them tonight

All these talks about potential talent for Liverpool. Likes of Hulk, hazard, Eriksen etc.

Is it young quality we need or proven prem stars?

Proven stars, like downing was for example?

quality players should translate to the league easier nowadays since there are much less aggressive fouling etc

not sure prem proven is the way to go

Young quality. Remember we have tried proven prem stars last summer and it didn't go to plan.

Proven prem is not the way to go. The players are hugely over priced and quite frankly over rated.

We just need proven top quality players not players with potential otherwise next season is just gonna be the same as last.

Proven stars? The likes of first team players at city, utd etc? Do you really think we could et someone like yaya toure, or wait c ronaldo doubt it! I wouldn't go anywhere near going for bent or any English player for that matter, because face it, they're all shocking! We bought c Adam because he looked quality for Blackpool and yes I agree he did but that's the point, he looked good because of his surrounding team mates

Or even a manager haha

Great who do you suggest

OLD or YOUNG the key word is QUALITY

We need the hulks and hazard and ekrisens before they got the media's attention. before hulk went to porto for instance.

Young talent, need some flair and build a formidable squad

English talent needed

Question for you eds?

What is the job/responsibilities of a Director of Communication?

Will the man get engaged in transfer dealings, i mean negotiating with the agents & other clubs...or just handles the pres & Club announcements..

Bosco {Ed002's Note - He will be responsible for all communications with the press (press releases, television, requests for interviews, organising press conferences, etc.), training staff in interview techniques, ensuring they know what they can and cannot say, and probably dealing with local community activities, requests for charity support etc.. Nothing to do with transfers.}

19 May 2012 16:30:13
Ed what do you know about Miguel Castro, reliable? {Ed002's Note - Of Benfica?}

I guess he is refering to the guy on twitter ed? :/ {Ed019's Note - Yes he is}

I presume thats sarcastic ed???? haha {Ed002's Note - I naturally assumed he was asking about a Benfica forward - I would know nothing of Twitter.}

He is another fake ITK like the most on Twitter, the only one I trust is that DuncanJenkinsFC guy who has got stuff 100% true and rarely speak stuff and tell that he doesn't know for some stuff...Miguel Castro is one of the worst {Ed019's Note - But the latest thing he has said is that AVB is 140% in the frame. Surely, that is not possible?}

He's a joker. He purposely messes up on figures of speech.

I'm not sure how reliable he is. He does always get team news correct a good while before others.

But I've yet to see him get some serious news correct, I may be wrong.

He said Txiki Begiristain was going to be our new DoF.

He also said Rafa hasn't been contacted, which Ed001 and Ed002 said he has been...

KKM... {Ed002's Note - I said there has been a tentative approach which is what led to the statement on SNTV.}

Miguel Castro is trying to indicate that FSG are still trying to convince Pep and that is causing delay in their decision.

Not that poster who posted about DuncanJenkins account but looks like a spoof account but he gets stuff right..think he just meant AVB is considered in a wired way...at this moment I believe him and even if he is not reliable its ok cz he doesn't tweet a lot of player transfers etc..

President of Cuba isn't he? (was)

Miguel Castro sucks. definitely one of thos pretend ITK's that pretty obviously know nothing. Said last year that we'd hooked up a deal for hazard as part of the Joe Cole loan.

Duncan Jenkins on the other hand is awesome. Thoroughly entertaining as being as close to legit as you can get in this day and age I feel. And he doesn't act like a tool like the fake ITK's do.

19 May 2012 16:24:50
Eds, do you reckon we could possibly make a move for Craig Gordon? Or is there not much point? {Ed002's Note - I can't see why right now.}

He'd be a decent second choice

Even if Pepe, Jones and Doni all left he's still been injury f***ed for the guts of 2 years. Can't depend on him, even as backup.

His injuries might clear up and he'll recapture the form that saw Sunderland pay £9m, but it's a big risk, and frankly one the club doesn't need to take.

19 May 2012 16:17:00
hearing lots about clubs releasing players, when do you expect us to announce our released players? {Ed002's Note - It depends largely on the Form 18 process for out of contract players. In theory today is the last days for clubs to issue them and players have a month (or 28 days or whatever) to respond. If new contracts are not being offered, clubs will release players early from their contracts so they can speak to other clubs. If a club is buying out the remaining contract of a player - that will take a while longer to figure out.}

19 May 2012 14:43:10
If Liverpool were to strike a deal with Juventus over Luis Suarez that included £25 million plus Milos Krasic would you be happy with this?

This is all hypothetical of corse being managerless, and I realise player swaps are rare, but I feel this would help solve our wing problem and put a considerable amount of money towards signing a top, proven striker in the mould of R. Soldado.

NO!!

billynwa

We've got the money but no one to make the decisions!

Hell no they arent taking luis. if he leaves i will not be happy no matter who they give us. they have no one that can do what he can and impact the game like him {Ed002's Note - They cannot talk to the player without the permission of Liverpool. They are however talking to his representatives.}

I would trust the new manager if he decided to this. I would like to see two half decent wingers backing up Andy Carroll with a tevez style player with him. I love suarez but sometimes i just think he does one or two turns he doesnt need to . He should shoot more.

I wouldn't because krasic has been playing awful for them.... So I'd have my doubts on him in the epl

Triple that value..

If we was to get 25 million krasic and elia then yea why not 2 wingers plus 25 million for another striker tahts not bad
riley

Krasic is so poor, overrated and why on earth would you want to get rid of Suarez, arguably our best player. And soldado wouldn't sign for us so keep dreaming

If he was any good juve would keep him think about it we can afford saldado anyway aswell

£50m and Krasic and I might think about it.

25m plus Arturo Vidal and I'd definitely go for it. Try for Soldado with the 25m then Muniain and De Jong with the 35m of however much the next manager will have. Free for Diamé and 5-8m for Hoillett from sales {Ed002's Note - Is that the out of contract Hoilett?}

How about showing real ambition and keeping suarez and buying soldado aswell

Liverpool football club are giveing suarez ager skirtel new contracts that will up there pay ynwa

Firstly, I can't see Suarez being interested in Juventus. If he leaves it will be for a Spanish club.

Secondly, Liverpool will not sell there best player with all this manager business going on. Can you imagine the dissapointment of any potential manager when they discover he was leaving?!
I think Suarez will stay at Liverpool for 2 more seasons before joining the top Spanish club at that time.

I think this really is make or break time for Liverpool. If they let good players leave and buy average ones then they can kiss goodbye to the top 6 for many years.
The owners at Fenway know this of course and as they did last year, expect some financial muscles being flexed. I honestly expect 2 or 3 top drawer players (Soldado for example) joining this summer. Keep the faith fellow reds, and enjoy exciting times ahead. {Ed002's Note -The clubs with an interest in Suarez right now are Juventus, PSG, Roma and Palermo. I would not be surprised if there were interest from Spain this summer as well.}

There's a few people on her who don't realise the financial clout of FSG

It depends on who we get with that £25m but then again they didn't want to deal with Aquilani so we shouldn't make deals to help them and not us because we have a player they want.

Suarez is going no where of course there will be intrest in him he is a class act but he has alreadt commited himself to lfc at least for the next season. 25 mill ha at least 40mill in this day and age and i still wouldnt sell. NGibo.

19 May 2012 14:33:10
TMW in Italy managed to get an interview with top Liverpool scout Steve Hitchen and asked him about the Suarez's future.

Hitchen said "The situation is different than what is being written in Italy. No offers for Luis Suarez came from any club or from Juventus. I cannot do an assessment, as Luis Suarez is not for sale. It's you in Italy who write these things. I want to be clear with you: we do not want to sell Suarez. Luis is our best player and will remain with us next year."

Gazzetta dello Sport have upped it all a notch and said that Juventus are ready to pounce for the player but will not pay what Liverpool want. The Merseyside club paid just over £20m for the Uruguayan and GdS say Juventus want to give them €20m for Suarez, which would be less than what their outlay was.

GdS claim Liverpool are willing to sell the striker but not at anything below €30m. You'd think the only reason they'd sanction a transfer is if the player himself had said he wanted out.

Juventus exec Pavel Nedved flew to Barcelona yesterday to speak to Suarez's agent.

Juventus seem to think we are mugs, first the Aqualani fiasco, and now they think we will fall for it again and accept any bid they make for Suarez. They wouldn't try this with any other club they respect, but they always have with clubs they think they can manipulate. Alas, it seems many other clubs now consider Liverpool as incompetent run business and football club.

EP

If Juventus spoke to an agent about a Liverpool player without permission, then that would be ''tapping up''.

I have lived in turin for 10 years and i have heard lots about this story. Suarez is far from Juves 1st choice so I wouldnt think that any bid is about to take place. Like every club they are sounding about loads of possibilitys.

Hi eds, when we sold Tom Ince to blackpool do you know if there was a buy back clause of some description involved in the deal? Seems to have serious potential and is very bright and creative.
Cheers {Ed002's Note - No, there wasn't.}

Yes, we really are that thick.

Not that thick, Ince wanted 20k a week for a new contract and after watching him in the reserves plenty imo he was never going to be a top player for us.

Jus scored.could be back in the prem.he not that bad

Hes good !! guttered we let him go

We let him go because his attitude was appalling, and there were serious question marks over his ability to perform at the highest level.

God, he didn't show that much promise and he really wanted far too much money...and £20k per week would have been too much for a reserve at best. Plus he (and his father) turned down the contract we offered...so why would we want him back?!

Ask anyone at Melwood about him and they will tell you his attitude stunk and was regarded as one of the most arrogant players ever to have been at the club, he is no loss to us.

He didnt want 20k hes on 7k a week at blackpool, when he was at us he was on around 300pound a week Fact. i played with him hes a sound lad

Leave it yeah {Ed001's Note - he wanted 20k a week, he refused to even discuss anything less.}

Toni Silva and Raheem Sterling is better than Ince. Ince is 20 i think so they got time to gain the experience he is getting.

19 May 2012 12:37:50
Ed what's gonna happen with Danny Wilson, he's at the club 2 years now and in loan the last 6 months, is he capable of being serious cover for Agger and Skrtel or is he not good enough? {Ed002's Note - I don't know, but a decision will need to be taken over him and the likes of Amoo who don't have a future mapped out at Liverpool.}

Ed001 can i havent seen danny wilson play at blackpool n all, have u seen him? hows he like now? he was quite promising when he came from rangers.

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - he hasn't impressed and so hasn't played much, from what I have been told.}

I'd send him out on loan for season

I think wilson has the physical part down he just needs to get game time, he is only 20 after all. i think when we got him from rangers we should have loaned him to them for a season.

19 May 2012 12:57:17
Old rumour I know, but David Dein is set to be announced DOF.
Cheers
TheRedOne

If David Dein takes a role at Liverpool it will not be as DoF! More likely he is currently one of the consultants advising on the management structure but I'd love to see him take up the Chief Executive role for us!

19 May 2012 12:17:51
Gazzeta say Juventus make approach for Luis suarez and think a deal can be done before a new manager is in place. Pavel Nedved a juve exec now has flown to Spain to speak to he's agent. Juventus hope they can make him hand in a transfer request

As if that would happen - and it would really help in attracting a quality manager I'm sure - have the job but we've sold our only world class player.

Not going to happen as Juve do not have £50 million plus to secure his services

Juve can dream but don't have that much money to take Suarez. PSG is there with big money and the coach woner both siad publicly they want suarez {Ed002's Note - And Palermo are pressing again.}

It's paper talk all papers are the same no matter what country there promoting false story's do people buy there papers

Really hope suarez doesn't go nearly irreplaceable especially for the quoted 30 million euros.

And who exactly are Juvenyus talking to? The cleaner? We have no hierarchy in place to handle transfers in or out at the oment. {Ed002's Note - If they have approached Liverpool it will be via Tom Werner. They can talk freely with Suarez' agent/representatives.}

Are all of you for.one minute that naive as to think we wouldnt sell for 50m? The board would make the decision while we have no manager, i dont even think it would take that much, upwards of around 35m i think the board would consider, not saying i agree but it would be reinvested.

Anfield Andy

Well steve hitchen(chief scout) was interviewed in italy and said suarez is not for sale at any price. Also the echo say we are in talks over a new deal. So i would expect he is staying next year

In terms of his value, you'd have to take into account the looming monetary crisis across Europe. Plus, his behaviour would bring down the price too.
Anything in excess of £35m I would take. Great player. Nice guy really as I met him briefly when he 1st signed, but would take a 20 goal player over him any day. Plus, he has the potential to cause more problems we just don't need.

My head says that we should take the money (if it is anything more than £30m). however heart says we keep him. he is an exciting player to watch. with carroll coming up stronger and better and another decentr striker to arrive he will be top of his game. i also believe the owner will give him one more chance perhaps till december.

I'm sure he scored 17 and was banned for 9 games. So guessing Suarez could be that 20 goal a season player then......

It would be very foolish to sell our best players. We have a strong backbone we just need a few quality players to add.

We need an advanced playmaker however we have Lucas as dmf so I would buy someone like David Silva to provide lethal defence splitting passes. And two wingers ie G ramirez who actually create from the wings along with a goal poacher of like van nistelrooy to be there to take every possible chance that comes his way! Suarez to play a deep lying forward to be available to take the ball run at defence, through, past, to shoot or T up the goal poacher :)

19 May 2012 12:01:26
Any thoughts about Alan Dzagoev...

Young and affordable...Pacy winger.... {Ed002's Note - Dzagoev has interested Chelsea in the past but Arsenal have shown a lot of interest this past year including sending a contingent to watch him play in Moscow back last summer. He will be available on a free transfer at the end of the year.}

Hope this isn't true

I swear he was a central midfielder? i'm of course by no means certain...

19 May 2012 09:25:08
With Liverpool not having a manager and all, does that mean targets like luuk de Jong will be getting more out of the question ?
Many thanks :) {Ed002's Note - Possibly - much will depend on the new staff arriving. However they are bound to take a look at previous targets such as De Jong.}

Thankyou very much

I am sure FSG know something must be done quickly .I would expect a new manager to be named before the end of next week.
CR

19 May 2012 02:44:58
Is AVB on the lish ed?

I think it would be better if we sign him because we could even sign HULK! or even j.moutinho I think moutinho is the right man to replace xabi alonso! {Ed002's Note - AVB is a sober man and may well be available for an interview after his preferred jobs were not offered. I would not hold your breath over Hulk arriving at Liverpool.}

Very droll ed quite amusing

Ed002: "...may well be available for an interview after his preferred jobs were not offered". Meeooowwww!

Hi ed's , I know its a bit late, and none of use will answer this at least till the morning I hope, with michael owen being a free agent, and I know there's no 1 there to make decisions, but in reality, when we have a dof and manager, do u reckon there is a slightest chance that michael owen could return on a short contract, I know he has played for the enemy, but forgiven that, and he never played any good against us, and did turn out to support his old mucker carragher in his testimony ( with some boo's), with all the chances we created last season, I reckon given michael the odd league, f.a cup game and some europa league games, even last 10 minutes in prem games, he would and could get us a few goals! Rushy, fowler and bellamy have all came back! I wouldn't mind given him a 2nd chance, all regarding fitness of course! Thanks ed's, plus I just wanted to write and hear some different things, rather managers and dof! Important has it is! Just repetitive! DHH L20 KOPITE Y...N...W...A jft96! {Ed002's Note - I very much doubt it.}

Owen foolishly sacrificed his successful glory years at Anfield, which would have ensured he remained a Liverpool legend with the affection of the fans willing to buy his memoirs until he was old and grey, for a few miserable years warming the bench at Old Trafford. He will not return.

I wonder if u will post this one as u never post anything i send.

{Ed002's Note - Obviously if your posts have been rejected by an Editor their is a reason for it, and putting notes like this just means they will get rejected.}

We dont want judas Owen back ...let him rot in the reserves at Southampton next season ....he is all for money and no loyalty

Why sign owen when he dropped us in it by leaving for real on the cheap cause he stalled on a new contract then he joined utd.
We have great strikers in the reserves and youth in morgan and suso so why not play these for the final 10 mins of games
liverbird09

Pure comic genius!

Noooooooooooooo.... how can you even consider this. Great player in his day but he is precisely the kind of player we dont need.

Why not give our youngster more chances instead of having another player well past his best in the squad?

Wouldn't touch him. He ruined his Liverpool days when he signed for United and if any manager signed him there would be uproar from the fans. We don't want him back, I don't want him anywhere near the club.

I heard Everton wanted to sign him for the (Man U) reserves but purely as a bed warmer for the Physiotherapists !

Exactly what do we want Owen for? He's finished. Not even good enough to be a reserve any more.

ayre was on lfc tv,talking of how liverpool fc always did its business behind closed doors. so y is he giving so much info about what is happening. ok most clubs in lfcs position would probably do the same as lfc, but would it happen in such open aired way. dont get me wrong there is a sense that at least us as fans have an idea of whats happening to a certain degree at our club, but i think currently half the world has an idea of whats happening. and though ayre stated that there was a plan, i cant help but think its becoming a bit of a public farce and the whole idea of building lfcs pr is back firing. also hate dwelling on the past but have to mention this,stand up those who would have loved the arabs to have purchased us before parry handed us to hick and gillet. by now we would have won the title. {Ed002's Note - It is very difficult to keep a search for a new manager quiet - so expect to see the information flow continue. Dave Whelan spoke of Martinez and Benitez has spoken of a tentative approach himself and an approach to Villas-Boas is expected - although had not happened as of yesterday.}

Totally agree, we were the arab's first choice and blew it, otherwise we would def have won the league and champions league by now! I spose that's one thing those mancs must hate, being second choice to the might reds! :)

Exactly that's what I've been thinking too. I'm no expert and even though I'm a fan and would like to know what's going on behind closed doors, I think Ayre is talking too much. I mean Dave Whelan has run his mouth about giving us permission to talk to Martinez, now imagine we don't take him and he stays at Wigan and they play rubbish or even get relegated for a matter of fact. Whelan will be pointing his finger at us that we "unsettled" him and all that.

We've become a joke. they don't know what 'behind closed doors' even means. Why are they making a documentary with FOX with cameras given 'full access' even to the dressing room if we are operating 'behind closed doors' ? Shanks would be having a fit hearing this. Absolute nonsense from the money hungry yanks.

AND WHAT EXACTLY has Ayre really said that is a step too far? You lot need to stop reading the press as if they're gospel because it is people like you that provide speculative fodder for the press to run with. Beyond Rafa and Martinez (the only two confirmed approaches) everything else has been nonsense! Nobody knows who is on the list of possible candidates and all of the journos are simply trying to get a run on the other journalists BUT they know NOTHING at all!

If ayre did not say anything, and not much information was coming from anywhere else in the club, the fans would be shouting they were being kept in the dark. fickle.

Dave Whelan was on Skysport 20 minutts after the Liverpool approch. He was in a hurry to get this information out.

While we are presumably
running our club the right way,so they say, the clubs with
sheiks and oligarchs are over

take years for us to catch them
up,we well missed the boat with
sheik mohammed,thanks very much

More of a question for ed002 really,

I was told recently by a friend at Madrid that Guardiola was serious about his year long sabbatical and would definitely not take nother job foir the coming season. Is it true that he rejected a big contract offer from chelsea due to the reasons stated?

If so what makes LFC fans on here think that we could change his mind?

Nevada {Ed002's Note - It is true that Chelsea had two people in mind for the manager's job and it is true he is serious about a year off. I really do not see Guardiola arriving at Anfield this summer.}

18 May 2012 17:34:05
Ed002 you are a well informed individual so can I get your opinion on this whole interview shortlist saga at LFC ??

Surely it should be done behind closed doors without news being leaked that we approched Martinez or we have a 12 to 8 man shortlist for the job. Seems very strange to me that we'd want all the Managers we interview that their are about 10 other candidates and the fact that a top coach such as Klopp or Biesla might not be happy knowing their not first choice and have to fight to get the job ?

Final question aswell how do we get clubs to let us interview their managers Wigan fair enough Martinez is gonna want to see what we have to offer but again teams with top coaches like Bilbao and Dortmund surely arn't just going to let us interview them for a job ?

Sorry for the questions ed but would love your view on what is happening at Liverpool at the moment? {Ed002's Note - The interviews will be behind closed doors and if anyone Liverpool wishes to interview is employed by another club, then that club has to give permission to approach the manager. News was not so much leaked about Martinez as mentioned by Dave Whelan to the press. I would doubt that the "short list" extends to 8 to 12 but everyone would expect others to be interviewed. As I have said before, I don't see any chance of Klopp arriving as manager but I am sure Benitez will be spoken to, and with AVB not being offered either of the jobs he was hoping for, I suspect he may also be approached now - although had not beena s of Friday morning. MY view was that the moment the team and Dalglish put those T shirts on at the Wigan game the Dalglish was }

Ed002 may ask which jobs AVB was hoping for? Roma seems one, who was the other? Thanks {Ed002's Note - The other one is not available so of no consequence.}

Regarding AVB, it may have been the Barcelona job or an outside chance of the Real Madrid job being available again. Ed002, has tried to hint at these I presume but that is my guess

Just flown over to Barcelona for the weekend and had Roberto Martinez sat behind us. Didn't think it was him til some other lads on the flight asked to have their picture taken with him in arrivals. Anyway we asked him if he'd been interviewed for the job. He said no, but sounded like yes to us. His missus is fit as f...

He said no, but sounded like a yes?
AnfieldUSA

Nice one :p

Because he was laughing when he said no. Oh and 37 unbelieves..! Jeez the rubbish I read on this site and I get that for something that actually happened.

He said no but it sounded like the yes... anyone else think the OP is probably on some sort of 'register'?!

Well that's just great. .

Just got onto a bus into center of Liverpool and Lionel Messi was sat In Front of me, i asked him what he was doing and he said he had signed for Liverpool.

I've posted this before and I'm guessing you might listen now, when I was on my back from barca after chelsea game, rafa dof and Rodgers new gaffa hope not true

Whywould we listen now when Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of the running yesterday? Check these pages, newspapers, sports programmes or radio before you peddle your BS.

Why would we listen when he has rulled himself out

Guess it cant be true if Rodgers has declined to interview!!
MartyPom

We're still not going to listen, Rodgers said he doesn't want to have an interview.
SA

Rafa would want to be hands on and Rodgers has not got the balls for the job.Done well at Swansea this season but LFC is a different kettle of fish.

Wel thats just great

19 May 2012 00:53:28
Eds, a question for you. Is Steve Nicol a contender to be the new manager? {Ed001's Note - not as far as I am aware, thankfully. The football he chooses to play is dire.}

19 May 2012 00:51:06
with regards to tranfers . Ed have u heard anything lately on Christian Eriksen .. Hes a top player and i heard we were interested in him. He is looking for a big club and suarez said he wanted him at liverpool when he moved ?

cheers

dylan
{Ed001's Note - Eriksen has no interest in joining us, he wants to go to Spain. Who would choose and buy him anyway? Has it escaped your notice we have no one in charge???}

Thats actualy not true, the hole spain and eriksen thing, was a trick question asked by a danish reporter, who asked wich lige he could see him self play in, and he said i think my playing style suits spain, at that time eriksen kept getting tikd by everyone that he didnt have the psysics toplay in england, and then camethe denmark england friendly, and later on the ajax vs man u matches, i strongly believe he has changed hes mind,and essientialyhe just wants to play for a club that wants to give him the chance and use him, meaning not man u, man city, barcelona or real madrid.

If skysports report on michael laudrup has any hold, i believe he would buy eriksen, if there was any posibility. {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. The Milan Press Office are convinced of interest from Manchester United and they have let it be known that they expect a bid to be made by for Eriksen who remains adament that he will stay in Amsterdam for two more years before moving to Spain. Expect AC Milan and Roma to press if a bid is made by Manchester United.}

Would it help if we brought in Laudrup Ed001? I am hearing he is a candidate and surely Eriksen would be more interested if we had a hero of his at the club, not to mention Suarez and Daniel Agger.
Anfield Rapstar {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen. Now thats a bit harsh 001

After Klopp has publically rejected the chance to be the new Liverpool manager, FSG apparently contacted Rafa, again.

After the Martinez backlash from the fans was felt and Brendan Rodgers ruling himself out as well as Klopp and FSG's main target Pep Guardiola not being interested in a return to football yet.

FSG are worried that any more public rejections will give the club even worse publicity and cause them further embarrassment.

In Rafa's favour he has worked in the league, he knows many of the players in the squad and many of the fans would welcome him back as well as the players.

That does make sense even if im not for rafa to come back, but thats not saying your 100% right

They should just bring Kenny back the blody idiots. Worst mistake they could possibly have made letting him go.

Why go through all these interviews then? Why not just give it to Rafa as soon as Kenny was relieved? He's been available since day one.
Now is the time to see what our owners are made of. If they don't take the view of doing what's best for the club and kowtow to public pressure again, then I'm sorry they have no business running this club. Singred

Wishfull thinking??...

mudux

After the last few days this makes the most sense, our club isn't enjoying the best of times at the moment

Rafa is the most sensible choice now given the farce FSG caused in sacking the King, internet prostitution of the manager's position, American Idol interviews and links to puny managers who are not suited to the club.

Young and hungry managers who has potential is fine but if your objective is to get to CL, these young guns have no experience to maintain in CL so are you going to sack them and get CL managers?

Also you don't expect everybody to be like Pep, who can guide Barca to historical wins. In fact I actually think that Snoogy Doogy would be successful in Barca with Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, and the whole of Spain national team.

You ask Martinez to take over a dysfunctional team like Liverpool, he will flop tremendously. First managers like him does not know how to manage Gerrard and Carra or Reina, even Carroll. Second fighting relegation and top 4 are two different things, meaning winning is the only objective, NOT TRYING NOT TO LOSE against the Boltons, Fulhams or Wigans. Third, have these guys even managed a European game before, as in ever? Fourth, your knees must not shiver (or wet your pants) when you see Fergie, Arsene, Mancini, Redknapp - I'm sure they normally do when up against them. Fifth - have these guys won anything at top level football? Sixth - Liverpool needs a manager who is 'bigger' than Kenny, someone whom fans and players respect - a 'special' one.

Only a few managers I can think of who have all these abilities. Rafa, Klopp, AVB (maybe), Hiddink, Capello, Pep. The current crop of 'wannabes' in EPL doesn't have that. One season wonder or 3 season relegation survival doesn't add up.

Sorry it looks like FSG 'don't know what they are doing' at the moment

Rafa blew the league title last time around and Kenny has had a poor season this time round so neither for me.

Why do people want rafa? We need to start a new era in which a new approach of football is taken on and the guy is given time to implement a team of his own. Whether we like it or not we are years away from title but top 4 is possible. Rafa had 6 years and did well but was in my opinion boring. we need to stop living in the past cos incase any1 has noticed we havent won the league for a long long time and this was evident in the way dalglish played. negative. rafa is negative. negative is good for europe but not week in week out in league. Utd, man city, arsenal all attack. bring in a manager who is attacking and with attractive football

I would welcome Rafa back and then he could groom Carra to be his successor, thus bringing back the famous bootroom when we were so successful

Rafa would be a massive step back, he's terrible. He lest the squad in the mess that Hodgson got crucified for and Kenny put back on it's feet. He would spend fortunes on foreign crap with no re-sale value who mostly rot in the reserves. It's amazing how Rafa gets the plaudits for winning with Houlliers team. He's a tactician and coach, not a manager. His people skills are non existant and he's so arrogant it's untrue. No thanks.

I would love Rafa back, but he isn't charismatic, so imagine how the TV in the dressing room will portray him?
He is not a Mourinho and doesn't like the limelight, no more than Paisley or Dalglish did.
He is a private man and TV coverage of him would not be complimentary.
Matters that should remain behind the scene will no longer remain there, which will increase the pressure.
If Rafa, or any other manager - but more so Rafa - don't start winning immediately he/they will get slaughtered by the media.
Rafa must realise this, so full marks to him for still wanting the Liverpool job, which American ownership has made a poisoned chalice.
As we have seen with Kenny, loyalty doesn't count for much.

If rafa comes back, with Andy Carroll at his disposal we will be in for the most boring football EVER seen

The dossier Rafa would give to Carroll on each defenders strengths and weaknesses would see Carroll fly. Torres wasn't prolific before teaming up with Rafa..

Rara did not leave the club on his own accord but was asked to leave. He did not leave the club in a mess but rather the previous owners and the person who appointed Hodgson. Hodgson crucified himself when he brought in Poulsen and Konchesky. He just fail to bring out the best from those big players. If he won with Houllier's team then credit must be given to him. He won the champions league in his first season while Kenny won the league cup by scrapping past Cardiff. If it is deem negative by bringing back Rafa then what about Kenny? If we can convinced Guardiola or AVB then grrrrreat! If not Rafa is our best option rather than Martinez.

Gus Hiddink would be my choice. Rafa is a control freak who fsg would not like. The next man must have solid champions league experience.

The best test for real LFC fans is this: Ask yourself if you would love to see Rafa back. If the answer is no...then go support someone else, PLEASE, and allow real fans to get on with it.

Who's Snoogy Doogy?

I can confirm that Jen Chang has been hired by Liverpool ,The garden will print the story later today .

I can't see this story blossoming any further.
Dave Slaz

I hope he is given time to bed in properly.

Load of Man Utd. I've a good mind to poke you with a pitchfork.

Yeah? Where did you "dig" this bit of info up from?

Weeding all the good rumours out hey?

I'm not keen on his ideas. They will never take root and the grass will always be greener on the other side. I wouldn't bet on him being able to cultivate a hardy crop of players to take us forward. Players will never blossom under Chang, I feel he should be weeded out and let a different candidate present his blooming ideology.

As a side thought, I'd be gladiola for Guardiola.

Rgds,

King Strimmer.

Can someone tell me ,'who the hell is jen chang when she's home'

Things around Liverpool are not as rosey as they seem, although i have to add, Jen Cheng is bein hired for Communications Director i believe

Liverpool have approached Rafael Benitez this evening.

Daniel Hanwell {Ed016's Note - A whole city approaching one man. Scary moment for him.)

Ah man i love the eds replies on this site, alays puts a smile on my face

the guardian and independent both reporting tht LFC to begin talks withAVB over weekend

I hope that's all they do

Squirrel

I thought he was going to Roma or some other Italian club {Ed002's Note - Roma have gone back to Montello and the other job he wanted is not going to be available.}

18 May 2012 23:27:38
So Klopp has ruled himself out....

18 May 2012 23:05:58
It's now a choice between van marjwyck, de boer, laudrup and martinez, the club felt obliged to ask guardiola as it would be negligent to do otherwise.
personally de boer or laudrup would be good enough for me!

None of the above for me thnx

18 May 2012 22:57:07
David Dean is advising FSG, but will NOT be taking up a perminent post with LFC. Forget any thoughts of him taking over from Ian Ayre - if he was ten years younger it may have been diffrent.
I also know we have spoken to Capello, but by the looks of things we seem to want to talk to everyone!

According to the press we have spoken to every manager in Europe.Don't believe everything you read.
I thought Capello was going to Chelsea.

We had a chat with Capello after the Fulham game believe it or not.

18 May 2012 22:27:55
Heard air china are the ones investing in our new stadium. Have any of the ed's heard any of this? {Ed001's Note - nope, sorry.}

What new stadium??

Does that mean you will sing youll never WOK alone, sorry lads scottish humour .

18 May 2012 22:14:58
Hi eds. Before I get an ear bashing off you, may I ask if rafa is in with a chance of getting the job? Thank you and I appreciate it

Cheers

Neilp

{Ed001's Note - he himself says there is a slim chance, he has been asked to have an interview, along with a number of others.}

Apparrently Benitez's associates requested he be granted an interview and may have been rebuffed (ACCORDING TO RUMOURS)

But ed u failed to leave out he has the best credintials for the job the others are wannabes if ur honest {Ed002's Note - There has been a tentative approach to Benitez which will no doubt please him and the fans.}

18 May 2012 22:14:34
Finally we're linked with a realistic, potentially top quality manager, Michael Laudrup!

Heard anything about this eds?

Also, have we contacted Girard?

Thanks

Mac {Ed001's Note - yes to Laudrup, he has been asked to interview for the role. No idea about Girard sorry.}

Great news ed and you must be happy yourself ;-)

Can you give us the latest on whose been asked for an interview please? it will be much appreciated. {Ed001's Note - I can only say those I know about: Rodgers, Martinez, Rafa, Klopp, Guardiola and now Laudrup. I am sure there are others but I can't think of them off the top of my head.}

Ed you seem to know who's been given/asked for an interview! Save everyone asking could you just give us the list? Thanks a lot {Ed001's Note - I don't know everyone, I know there are others that I don't know about.}

Christ please let it be Laudrup. Pope Benedict XVI (Luftwaffe retired)

Michael Laudrup's last two teams managed:
Spartak Moscow - Win % = 28.5
Mallorca - Win % = 31%
No thanks...

Dude in mallorca laudrup had no say in wich players where bought, they sold the players they wanted to whitout including him at all, in moscow there was a language barrier, something that isnt gonna be a problem, laudrup has done incredibly well, when given the right tools, those statitics you cant coutn on at all.

18 May 2012 21:28:55
Hi all

This is what I've been told tonight!

Brendan Rodgers has told Ian Ayre he isn't ready to manage a big club like Liverpool.

The club is pissed at Dave Whelan for informing the media regarding Martinez, the club wanted to do business behind close doors but Dave Whelan was hopping to open a bidding war (compensation money) between Liverpool & Villa.

The club have a list of around 14 managers and yes Pep is on that list but the feeling is he wouldn't go back on his word (his taking a long break)

The Luis Suarez leaving the club rumours are false, Luis is very happy to be I here.

The_Insider

The club can't be pissed at Whelan. FSG are a professional outfit and would have know in advance that club chairman do speak to the press and cofidentiality is for dorks. Or am I being stupid and FSG are starting to look out of their depth.

So ur telling me on the basis that who knows is ruling a candidate out

The compensation package would be the same regardless of team.

18 May 2012 20:41:05

Jen Chang has resigned from his position as a sports editor for a on-line sports publication company. have you heard this ed's cheers {Ed001's Note - yesterday's rumour, still not confirmed and I remain to be convinced it is true.}
