Hi Eds, are we still in contract negotiations with Lyon to sell Shaquiri, has there been any breakthroughs. I seem to be reading about this story for the past 2/ 3 weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The clubs are a long way apart of price.}

20 Aug 2021 22:47:56
If they sell cornet or aour then they can pay the £12m so no need to rush.

Agree3 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 04:43:53
If you can give details. they want for 6M euros and we want around 10M?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool want €15M and Lyon value him at less than half of that.}

21 Aug 2021 09:14:20
I know we might have pushed our luck with valuations but less than €8m for Shaq? Come on.

Agree6 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 11:12:31
Did they not watch the Euros? I’m sorry but €15m for a player of Shaq’s quality is more than fair.
I’d rather keep him than get our pants pulled down like that!

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 11:34:51
If they value him at less than that then laugh at them. Keep him for another year then no need to buy another attackeŕ. that's a pathetic valuation outa them.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They have other options and income from two more sales - they certainly won't be worried about the Liverpool fans laughing at them.}

21 Aug 2021 12:42:46
This is the same club that have a different price for English clubs when selling their own players. Let them look else where.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 13:11:41
7.5mil is crazy valuation for Shaq imo but it's not my money lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 15:47:24
Surely if we are that far apart in negotiations we need to pull out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - you talking about my sex life again?

21 Aug 2021 17:01:19
Very, very good Sir😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - why thankyou

21 Aug 2021 19:00:57
Ed 2. couldn't care less whether they care about liverpool fans. That valuation and offer is nothing short of a joke. Shaq is easily a 15-25m pound player easily. Always different when we are in forone of theirs. Tell them to fook off. End of.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is the attitude that results in Liverpool not being able to sell players and Klopp not getting the players he really wants.}

21 Aug 2021 22:17:37
I think prices are currently going pre Neymar to PSG when they were a bit normal and sane, atleast until this C.V. complication is over which is likely to be 2-3 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Aug 2021 22:27:12
Ed02. That hints that you would accept the deal they are offering. How do you defend accepting a low price for him when most people think he is worth more?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is fine, Liverpool can keep him and not add anyone else that Klopp wants instead. There are few that would value him at £25M.

22 Aug 2021 04:25:00
I just think that we have to be sensible about such things. We utterly ripped some teams off for the price we got for players like Solanke, Brad Smith, etc

And big players have also moved for very small sums before like Evra, Alderwereld.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2021 03:24:42
Ed.002 Are you of the opinion that £15M is an overvaluation of Shaqiri value? I understand what you are saying about allowing players to leave in order to gain funds for players that Klopp wants.

Recently we have been talking about Philips worth using White as a bench mark. Now, we are looking at Shaq, a full international who showcased his talents at the Euros. I think the majority of us are trying to look at this without the red tinted glasses and genuinely believe the player has a reasonable price tag on him. We respect your point of view as someone who is in the business of the game and not a fan of the club. So, do you really believe Liverpool are overvaluing him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - £15M is more than clubs will pay - and he certainly is not worth the £25M one supporter suggested. There were no takers with the €15M (which will be around £13M) asking price making two interested sides walk away. The one offer Liverpool have had is for slightly less than half of the asking price. Again Liverpool asked an unreasonable price for Taiwo Awoniyi and had to reduce it significantly to sell him - and Grujic was priced out of a move and went on loan.

I have no idea folks want to try and price Phillips using Ben White as a bench mark or how that makes any sense at all.

Departures this summer have raised about half of the Konate fee - that is it. Efforts have been made to sell others to fund the likes of Sanches and a versatile forward but have gone nowhere. Last summers transfers are yet to be paid for in full. Klopp knows he has to do more with the players he has at his disposal and would need the club to take on more debt to cover any further transfer dealings - which they might consider doing - but players need to move on first.}

22 Aug 2021 12:33:07
Hi Ed.002, thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.

I guess like in all walks of life, it's only too expensive if it doesn't sell. If someone is willing to pay the price then its a reasonable price. Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

22 Aug 2021 18:19:44
I would look at it differently if you're looking at an ageing player who hardly plays for you, hardly makes an impact beyond select games and is mostly taking up a space on your bench. If you don't sell him now, you're foregoing the 7.5 Million that you're getting as an offer and also paying him his wages of 4 Million before he walks away for free next summer. That's a total of 11.5 Million that you're giving up to keep him at the club.

Take the 7.5 Million now, invest it in a young player who will cost far less in wages too, for at least a few years. I'm aware there's a business model to try to always make a profit on player sales but models have to be adapted to market conditions. He may have been worth 25 Million when he joined us (we got a bargain then) but he is no bargain anymore.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 17:11:04
Ndombelle (spelling) what you reckon Ed's?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Aside from Liverpool having no interest, how could they afford him.}

20 Aug 2021 19:22:10
Straight swap for Karius Ed002?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is a surprise that the fans have yet to ask about the availability of Danny Drinkwater.}

20 Aug 2021 19:44:40
We have our own versions of drinkwater at the club Ed 😂😂😂.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 20:32:34
Sinwave Who do we at the club that is as poor as Drinkwater?

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 22:57:52
Danny Drinkwater is a player that in the right system is effective. He got the big head and went to a club where he really didn't fit in. If he would have stayed at Leicester, he would have been much better, but he didn't have enough self awareness to stay where he was. A shame really.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sarri said he could only play in a midfield four.}

20 Aug 2021 17:08:04
Hi Eds,

Just seen that Ndombele wants to leave Spurs. Would this be a time to show interest? I know of his attitude problems but surely that's something Klopp and his staff could turn around.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Obviously this would be the time to show interest - but Liverpool has none.}

20 Aug 2021 19:25:58
Really interested how his career pans out, so many people seem to rate him highly but for me he’s been average at best at Spurs.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 20:35:37
I would love us to sell Naby and for me Ndombele is just as bad looks good for 8 mins out of 90 and only wants to play when his team has the ball.
Absolute massive pass for me.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 20:36:57
I spilt my coffee laughing at the reply Ed02.

I guess we can add him to the list of people we have no interest in.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 23:14:43
we don't need another injury prone player.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 05:55:53
Iliax Moriba £9m rising to £12m with add ins
Only 18yrs old and probably not 1st team yet, but definitely a Klopp type signing for the future.
Eds002 you heard about Liverpool signing this lad?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No. Barcelona have held talks with another side.}

20 Aug 2021 09:30:03
heading to Chelsea apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 09:33:03
Building some squad Chelsea! got to have best in the league currently.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 10:13:16
Shame we didn’t go for him. Looks quality. But we’ve no money, whilst watching Arsenal without any success or CL football manage to splash £100m plus so far this summer. Looking forward to the FSG spin.

Agree13 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 10:17:15
Chelsea still not better squad than LFC and LFC coaching staff way ahead.

Agree9 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 11:05:22
Chelsea do not have the best squad at all. Their defence is decent, but mainly because they play 5, a good range of attackers but all good or decent, only really lukaku is top class at the moment for me, and I still have reservations about him.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 11:15:41
TG, Chelsea definitely have better and bigger squad depth for forward positions. Liverpool’s front 3 probs better than Chelsea’s but their bench options will likely be Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech on Sunday, whilst Liverpool’s will be Origi, Mina, Shaq.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No Pulisic on Sunday.}

20 Aug 2021 12:16:58
I'd take Shaq over Werner and Ziyech to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed077's Note - I wouldnt though :-D}

20 Aug 2021 12:22:58
Arsenal have about 300 million dollars worth of gaps to fill in their squad. I had to read that a couple of times to make sure I was reading clearly that their spending on players who would be squad players at best in our squad is being used as some kind of ammunition against FSG. my head is hurting.

Agree5 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 12:47:57
More the fact we keep being told we’ve no money but we need depth, a couple players. Champions always improve never stand still. Finished top four, CL winners, League winners. Watching a team without European football haven’t won a thing for years and no money cause of new stadium yet they can splash £120m in a window after C.V.. We’ve not spent £5m yet this window but expect to compete.

Agree6 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 12:56:39
Good point about fairly average defenders looking better with the added security of a 5.Dont see the big hype about Chelsea this season. Most, if not all pundits fancy them over us this season. They'll look silly at seasons end.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 13:24:13
Our squad appears to be very strong right now, even without any additions. My only concern is age, and some players may start feeling the effects of father time this season. I don't think some fans out there though appreciate how difficult it is to integrate new talent into a system either. Just because you add a sparkling new player doesn't mean they're going to hit the ground running at all, and this is especially the case if you're talking about players who come from outside of England to the PL. Also, Klopp has never been one to rotate much either (which I'm not a fan of) so I'm not sure you can look at the squad and say this isn't a squad he would want. It fits the mold and is seemingly still strong. As it currently stands, I'm not sure there are enough minutes to go around to keep everyone happy either.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 13:39:42
Besides Milner the oldest outfield player is 30/ 31?These are prime years for a footballer, a lot of our squad are at the absolute peak age-wise.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is 35.}

20 Aug 2021 13:49:01
Fuses that is such a biased post. What about Firmino or Jota? Within 12 months Elliot will be a better player that Ziyech.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 14:14:17
JH, I would agree that 30/ 31 are when guys hit their mental prime, but physically, I think they're at their best from 22 to 26. I think the sweet spot where you get both overlapping occurs around 27/ 28.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - speak for youreself I think the seeet spot is mid 50’s

20 Aug 2021 14:17:49
VVD, Hendo, Thiago, Matip, and as mentioned, Milner, are all 30+. Mane and Firmino will both turn 30 this season. Salah turns 30 soon after the season ends. We have mentioned this a lot on here that we have a cluster of guys all aging out at the same time and balancing out the squad age-wise is a priority within Liverpool right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 14:53:43
@Grobs Tash, "We've not spent £5m yet this window" shows how clueless you are.

Last summers transfers plus Konate plus tonnes of contract extensions (which generally include signing bonuses for the players) .

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 15:14:28
Trent, Joe, Konate, Tsimakas, Jota, Kelleher, Neco, Jones and Elliott all25 or under though. Players as fit as Salah and Mane will perform into their mid 30's these days.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 15:27:02
Markp how is it biased? Tbh I forgot one of Jota/ Firmino would be on the bench tbh. I wasn’t saying that Elliot won’t be better in 12 months either? Every man and his dog on this page has been braying about wanting to upgrade the forward options on the bench, but suddenly those options are better than Pulisic/ Ziyech etc can't really have it both ways.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I don't get the Ziyech thing, he is not that good at all.}

20 Aug 2021 15:43:51
I disagree that 27/ 28 are a players prime years. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago that was true. But medical science, squad size, nutrition and sports science has come so far that many players can and have played longer as their bodies are much more protected. The likes of Fernandinho, Silva, Kompany, Modric, Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo, Kroos, Lampard, Terry, Ronaldo, Ramos, Thiago Silva, Suarez, Drogba, Ibrahimovic, Ribery, Robben, Di Natale, Totti, Chiellini (etc) All played their best football somewhere between 30-35. Messi and Lewandowski at 34 and 33 are still light years ahead of every other forward in Europe.

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 16:16:41
Going back to the OP, how many of these ex Barcelona teenagers actually leave and go on to be absolutely top class players, there are more Dani Pacheco’s out there than Cesc Fabregas’s, that’s for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - not quite sure fabregas was top class

20 Aug 2021 16:16:52
He did say this window in fairness Sean.

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 16:31:30
See some are so desperate for a signing they'd be happy with Ramsdale and White. Shiny new toy syndrome.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I would rather have Sanchez with a torn miniscus than ramsdale, odengaad or white. This is buffoonery of Olympic gold medal standards and will see Arteta/Edu sacked by January.

20 Aug 2021 16:41:56
Agree Ed - baffles me how Arsenal has failed to address the obvious problem in their midfield. A Fabinho type character is what they need to provide some steel to allow the frontline to flourish.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I feel sorry for Martinelli, Saka, Rowe they will want out soon enough mate.

20 Aug 2021 16:42:40
His medal collection would say differently Ed. He has had a top class career which is fair to say.

Don’t fancy Arsenal’s chances much when they play Chelsea. Lukaku is going to swat White away like a fly. We’ve dodged a bullet there as he looks as weak as a kitten.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 17:50:21
Ed666. “Buffoonery of Olympic gold medal standards” made me spit out my drink whilst reading so thanks for that. 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I aim to please fella. Have a super weekend mate

20 Aug 2021 18:09:54
Ed0666, I’ve already lumped on Arteta being the first to be sacked, they’ve got Chelsea and City in their next two games… I can’t see him lasting beyond the City game.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - he’s lucky he got to play Brentford mate

20 Aug 2021 18:31:43
It’s funny to read some are saying that our players like Hendo, Thiago, Milner or even VVD are over or at 30 already and need to be replaced gradually. Then when I pop off to check City and can see KDB, Gündogan, Walker and a certain Fernandinho (as old as Milner) who are still stalwarts on their team and haven’t read anywhere that the City fans want them replaced anytime soon.

Funny to see that these same people lack the same energy to criticise Pep cos clearly, he is as daft as Klopp for placing his confidence on these same players. I just find that absolutely baffling.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 18:38:35
Ed001, I don’t rate Ziyech particularly highly, it was more just to point out the irony that Liverpool need to upgrade their bench options but those bench options are also (barring City) apparently the best in the league.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ok got you sorry.}

20 Aug 2021 18:38:51
And Mahrez.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 19:26:22
Finished 3rd last year after being down to our 7th choice centre half and a loan signing, midfield obliterated.
2 seasons before that we overcame a 3 goal deficit against the most feared attack in Europe with a makeshift front 3.
You can't sign character, this squad just has it, believe.
No more panic buys, let's stick to the policy that got us here.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2021 20:45:46
Totally agree with that.

We have lost Lovrenand Wijnaldum and we have gained Tsimikas, Konate, Thiago and Jota. We have also seen the emergence of Jones and Williams (if only people would get off their backs) and Elliot and perhaps, just perhaps Gordon.

The squad has experience and knows how to win.

As you say ‘let’s stick to the policy that got us here’.

I honestly keep waiting for Kroenke to say he's hoping to win the draft lottery for Arsenal to build a team around a top pick.
