Why was Henderson taken off?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed0666's Note - injury

20 Sep 2020 20:59:00
Oh thanks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - no worries mate hope you enjoyed the game.

20 Sep 2020 22:11:26
I think it was just precautionary (tight thigh they said on commentary) but also the perfect scenario to introduce Thiago’s skill set to the game.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 21:25:53
I was worried before the game I must admit but 10-15 minutes into the game I started to relax a bit. Now the sending off did of course help us no question there. I was really interested in watching Timo play and plenty of pace but would he suit our style of play? I definitely think we need more cover at CB even tho Fab was just fab.3pts in the bag Ed0666 and extremely happy mate👍😁.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - Yeh I said earlier I’m not sure Werner would have suited us and I stand by that. He’s phenomenal in a counter attacking side. Buying a CB is imperative mate as fab can’t be expected to pull out that type of center back display as an auxillary consistently if god forbid he had to. It was also telling that even tho Matip & Gomez didn’t play Billy the kid wasn’t picked so clearly Klopp doesn’t feel he’s ready to step up.

21 Sep 2020 07:57:14
I believe Billy was injured according to an injury update on the LFC website so Klopp may still consider him adequate cover.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was.}

21 Sep 2020 08:00:13
Was gomez injured? Seemed odd to not even have him in the bench if so.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

21 Sep 2020 08:14:09
I thought fabinho was excellent at cb to the point that I’d like to see him there every week. He reads the game well makes great interceptions great tackles and good in the air. Add the fact that he can play a bit as well and I think you’ve got a perfect partner for VVD there. Held his own against a very good Werner on more than one occasion. Thiago with the exception of the challenge for the penalty looked exceptional, I’ll be honest I didn’t see the need for him as we have plenty of midfielders but in 45 minutes he proved with almost every touch of the ball that he’s a different class. Playing with a swagger of someone who has won everything and wants to win more. Liverpool at times looked in a training match just keeping possession and probing for Weakness for long stages. Chelsea miss pulisic and ziyech and will be a different prospect when they’re fit however Liverpool went to a team that want to be contenders and made them look average for 90 minutes. A very good squad developing now with cover across the pitch.

21 Sep 2020 04:15:21
So we’re all talking about a CB, but Eds, do we know of any actual solid interest in any? I’m hoping you won’t say Carlos.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of anything different to what has been discussed I am afraid.}

21 Sep 2020 10:36:44
Fab has a mean streak in him, as a DM this is okay, but not as a CB. The risk would be too much.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hes your second best centre back after VVD for me xpertoyin, reads the game very well and kept werner quiet yesterday which is not easy mate..

21 Sep 2020 10:49:20
I agree Ed025. Gomez is a very good young centre back but Fabinho is just better in every defensive department except recovery pace. He even holds the offside trap better.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - he has something better than speed HMB, he has speed of thought, reads the game very well which although hes young gomez fails on imo, just my opinion though mate..

21 Sep 2020 11:03:48
Was just going to say the same thing Ed. I thought he was exceptional and I think what I liked most was how well he read the game and his calmness with bring the ball out of dangerous situations. With regards to Thiago, I was also one that didn't see the need to go for him but wow, what a player. He strikes the ball so well and effortlessly finds a red shirt. I'm very excited to see more of him in midfield.

21 Sep 2020 13:25:55
As they say Ed025, the first 5 yards are in your head.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - dead right mate..

21 Sep 2020 13:39:02
I hope we don't sign a Cb think Gomez and VVD are a great pair big games like yesterday Fab can cover with the lower end clubs the young lads can cover if Matip and Gomez are both out. If I could sign one more player I would rather we get better cover for Alisson as Adrian proved last year in the fa cup and champions league he is not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 07:47:56
Think klopp said billy had a knock too.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - thanks mate

21 Sep 2020 16:31:38
Can I ask who is Billy the kid? Haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 21:42:05
Gomez is far better than Fabinho at centre back.

I'm ok with Fabinho providing cover but no way would I agree with Fabinho actually being better than Gomez as a center back.

Excellent yesterday but if he playing there regularly I think he'd be caught out (lack of pace and strong but a bit clumsy so I think he would give away a fair few penalties) .

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 23:14:18
Fabinho played superbly vs chelski. id be happy to see him there, maybe Tiago and Hendo infront of him. Would allow Keita to play slightly further forward. Or maybe play Bobby in a "10" role, move Mane inside, play Jota left channel and keep Salah down the right channel. Either way, and more, we've signed some great players in great deals, giving us a chance of retaining the title. Come on REDMEN. YNWA.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 16:09:31
Hi eds, do you guys know what's happening with Nat Phillips? Have we sold him or are we actively trying to sell him? If he's still at the club, seems a bit strange he wasn't even included on the bench today with both Gomez and Matip injured and no other senior CB in the squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Nathaniel Phillips (CB) if Liverpool add a first choice CB that Klopp wants then time may have come for Phillips - Stuttgart would like to keep him on loan and may be open to buying him at the right price. Reading, Millwall, Blackburn Rovers are all open to taking him on loan the the Championship but Liverpool are pushing to sell.}

20 Sep 2020 20:03:09
He's 23. He's a couple of months older than Gomez. Surely he either stays as 4th choice (if Klopp thinks he's up to it, which after seeing Fabinho have Werner completely in his pocket, seems unlikely) or he leaves the club. There's no sense in him going on another loan.

I actually think he's a decent defender, but there comes a time when we have to be looking at selling him, if not for his own career.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 22:15:27
I like Phillips, but then again I'm not working for Liverpool and I'm not a professional scout, so what do I know.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 22:17:36
After watching Fabs, I can imagine Klopp asking him to play CB with VVD and having Thiago play deeper maybe.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 00:07:06
One of the issues to consider with Philips is that replacing him with an HG defender who is any better than him is unlikely with the funds he would generate by selling him. I think he's nailed on to be the 4th cb (not including fabinho), I'd say its more likely that Matip could go if there's any interest, as he would be easier to replace, as he's not HG and would fetch more money.

20 Sep 2020 09:37:00
Hearing Liverpool have been given permission to speak to Anderlecht's Jermey Doku.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Sep 2020 11:38:04
I doubt that after Jota.

Agree9 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 12:17:43
Can't see it happening as we got jota, but if origi and Brewster are leaving for cash we are 2 attackers down so u never know . We need a good centre back before another attacker. I am praying for diego Carlos because it seems klopp likes him and he is a gladiator of a defender.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 13:53:27
Hailstones, not sure if you’ve seen Carlos of late but he is reckless and gives away pens and fouls away at a high rate, it must be his long passing ability that catches Klopps eye because it can’t be his defending prowess, he’s not composed enough to be in this team in my opinion. I do agree that we need a CB to replace Gomez as a next priority if another player was to come in. Another forward would seem odd unless origi, Brewster and shaq were all to leave. I hope Wilson, Grujic and karius move along also because we need the funds and the space in the squad.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 14:06:11
This constant replacing of Gomez is beyond a joke now it really is
What has he done so wrong to need replacing?

Agree12 Disagree0

{Ed047's Note - if you don't want him we’ll have him at Arsenal.

20 Sep 2020 14:07:43
If we are going to sign him. it would be best to sign him early. hg and whatnot.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 14:24:55
We must be a very very very VERY good side if our biggest priority is replacing Joe Gomez! talk about spoilt.

Agree6 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 14:44:41
Would there be any possibility that LFC could negotiate a deal to sign Doku next year and let him stay in Belgium for this season (similar arrangement to Keita and RB Leipzig three years ago)? Just a thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 14:45:16
Some of the softheads on here are adamant that Gomez needs replacing. Thankfully Klopp is in charge and knows what he is doing.
You wonder if folks are more interested in the transfers than the football itself when they want a top player replaced just so it means another transfer they can glop over for a day.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is Klopp who wants Diego Carlos.}

20 Sep 2020 15:05:31
I like Gomez but if we can get Carlos in as well just makes us better, rotation this season will be extremely important .

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 15:27:08
Can we please leave Joe Gomez alone VVD. Has made more mistakes leading to goals than Joe. We have got to have so many homegrown players in are squad and I can’t think of many we could have that are better than Joe. I think it’s to many people who play FIFA and football manager and the believe everything from there.

Agree5 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 19:43:14
The problem with Gomez is he is very injury prone and that's means we can't rely on him to be a starter.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 20:03:12
he is not very injury prone at all
that is complete rubbish sorry mate.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 20:40:07
He’s spent a considerable amount of time on the sidelines JJ.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 22:11:15
People take it as a personal attack yet they don't look at the facts. The ed;s here have been banging on about Klopp wanting Carlos, so why doubt that? And yes Gomez is ace but he is not the most robust of players unfortunately and if we are to build a legacy, then we will need a rock solid, mostly injury free CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 03:54:49
Joe Gomez is a great player but nearly as injury prone as Joel matip!

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 10:29:52
Yesterday Gomez was out with a slight knock. He'll be back for next week.

The times that he's been injured for long periods have been impact injuries. That doesn't mean he's injury prone. Those injuries can happen to anyone. Joe's just been unlucky with them.

Agree4 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 16:27:08
The question for me is, if VVD wasn't in the backline, would you trust Gomez to lead in his place?

The answer for me is no. I don't think his concentration is there consistently. His recovery pace is brilliant and he's instinctive but if any defensive leader wasn't supporting him, I think our backline would be at risk.

No doubt he's got it in him, 100%! and in no way should he be moved on. But, I do think we need an experienced CB for the next three years until JG can really master his craft.

Your thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 16:36:11
Joe gomez is so underrated by some fans. He is unlucky with injuries, picking up knocks here and there. But he's a quality cb. He would get in all premiership teams that's for certain.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hmmmmm..

21 Sep 2020 17:17:21
Which team wouldn't he get in then? He walks into man u and Chelsea. 100% arsenal and spurs. Leaving only city?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions magico, you obviously see something in him that some others dont and thats your perogative mate, myself i think hes ok when he has a VVD along side him, but anyone else and hes a ship without a rudder..

21 Sep 2020 18:03:49
Yeah i admit. probably does look better with virgil next to him. I guess the prem isn't blessed with great centre backs period. Apart from virgil and laporte who else do you rate guys.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 21:48:22
I'm with JJ and Magico, 100% agree. Other than VvD it is just Laporte who is clearly better than him in the premiership and he makes every single team.

I've posted something similar a few times when people are on about replacing Joe and no response naming any team in the premiership he wouldn't make.

Morning eds n reds

Ed2, do you see AOC being sold in this transfer window.

I like him as he offers something i little different and he seems to give 100%. But i saw stat about how many games he has actually played since joing us, boy has he been injured a lot.

What kind of fee would we expect. as he is still only 27/ 28 i think.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would doubt it as it would further dilute the European squad size. And it is unclear when he will return from injury.}

20 Sep 2020 08:41:52
Thanks ed. Going to be a busy day on here i think.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 09:21:10
Who's going to buy an injured player?
Ox has a contract until 2023. He's a well-liked member of the squad with a big personality, homegrown and a good player when he's fit. So I can envisage him staying until the end of his contract and then being let go, similar to Lallana and Sturridge.

Agree7 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 12:33:32
We bought for £25million, we need money im sure there are teams who would be interested if they thought we would sell.

Could be that he may get less game time with our new signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 12:58:58
Thought it was closer to £36m. Since his injury against Roma? Ox has just been an expensive squad player and constantly injured. Not sure how he’ll get the chance to get back to peak now unless Gini, Keira leave and Hendo is injured but if he could I’d keep him. However, if a bid came in for £30-35m would be very tempting.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 13:57:46
Last season OX had a period where he was playing at a high level again and scoring every other game. He would be playing regularly if fully fit and starting a lot of games too. I do think at some point we have to look into moving him on just based on his injuries, him and Keita would be two midfielders I’d look to move on if the rest of them are playing at a high level come next summer. Keita has to prove something this season otherwise I’m done with him, he would have had enough chances to prove himself by then.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Sep 2020 03:59:01
If I could get rid of Keita now, I would gladly do it. He offered nothing in the game against chelsea or in fact any other games he has played in for us. I think he has had enough chances to show his ability. If we needed to sell someone now, he’s be first on the list to go!

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Sep 2020 10:03:01
Totally agree. He was OK in the dead rubber games at the end of last season but as soon as the pressure is on he goes missing. I watched him in Germany before he came and was underwhelmed. After 62 games and 4 assists I, and an increasingly vocal corner of the support, have had enough. JK's recruitment record is amazingly good but penny for penny Keita has been a disaster. The only trouble with selling him is (and if I am wrong I would be happy to be put right by the Eds) I doubt that there is a single club in Europe that want him right now. Astonishing to think he cost more than Mo and Robbo put together! Incidentally, I haven't been on this forum for about 10 years and couldn't remember my user name or anything but best regards to the knowledgeable Eds and fellow posters. It's nice to be back on a forum that's not a bloodbath! Best wishes to all.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - welcome back, whoever you were! I totally agree on Keita, he doesn't have it nor does he seem bothered to try and get it. Such a shame as he was great before we bought him and then he just went all billy big balls.}

20 Sep 2020 00:54:39
Hi ed002,

Is there any interest in Shaqiri and Origi? Surely we have to offload some players. Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new - Liverpool are working hard to sell players and must move on two of the Non HG - Karius and Grujic would be the first I would think.}

20 Sep 2020 09:59:51
Can see it being difficult to move karius on. but origi, shaqiri and grujic surely will go to other clubs. they're all decent players and could improve other teams easily.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Sep 2020 12:31:06
It would not surprise me that LFC would just pay out Karius contract if no buyers are found.
