Hi all just wondered if people had seen the reports of matip possibly been banned during the African nations cup. Apparently Cameroon are looking at it as he has refused to join up with the squad. Surely this can't be right after all he has the right to choose if he wants to play or not.

Many thanks.

Can't he just retire from international football? Surely then they can't do anything. The whole thing is a joke if you ask me.

It's all media rubbish! The players are contracted to their clubs, not the national team. All Cameroon could do is never select him again, but that's it.

Personally, I think it's terrible that he's chosen not to represent his country. The man is a role model for young children and playing for your national team should be an honour. Mané's still going. I'm glad he isn't going like but i'd be happier about him as a person/ professional if he was. It would show that he plays for passion and not just the coins.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - I agree it is an honour, but why is it terrible that he has chosen not to represent his country? What have young children got to do with it? Why does playing for your country mean he is playing for passion, when it comes with salary bonuses to his contract and personal benefits, such as increased exposure and earnings from sponsors? You might disagree with his choice, but you are judging him based on nothing, it is just as possible passion is why he is not going, but you know absolutely nothing about the situation and have decided to criticise one of the players you are supposed to support.

This decision not to play for Cameroon while he sorted out his career was made a while ago, and his national team was well-informed and have been kept informed. There should be no issue here at all. Cameroon have deliberately turned it into one for their own reasons and that is their choice.}

International football is rubbish, especially the England set-up.

In fact, its pure cringe.

Leave all that to your supporters of clubs in the lower divisions, and just enjoy Liverpool Football Club and the overrated premier league.

At the end of the day he was born and raised in Germany so he probably just doesn't feel that passionate about representing Cameroon. Can't blame him, especially with what African fa's are like with paying players late and stuff. Was it Cameroon who had to fly a plane of cash to the 2014 World Cup because they hadn't payed the players or something?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - didn't their women's team just have a sit-in at a hotel over not being paid?}

22 Dec 2016 17:34:47
The cash in a plane was the Ghana national team and the nigeria ladies (falcons) where sat in a hotel, cheers.

Didn't he say as soon as he signed we didn't need to worry about him going to the AFCON because he wanted to establish himself and settle at Liverpool first otherwise the move would be pointless. I for one feel it's commendable that the player wants to put us first.

Transfer window
Well lads only 10 days till the window opens and I can honestly say this is the first time I don't think we need anyone. If you disagree state position and who? As a footnote if Klopp were to go into the market his past suggests he does business in the first week even in his Dortmund days so unless anyone was sold or a major injury I don't expect any business after the first week of the window has gone.

Sell Sturridge and buy Icardi. Never going to happen but that's my 2 cents.

Agree1 Disagree10

{Ed001's Note - god no, Icardi is trouble. He is Balotelli level problem.}

Great team, good times! But don't kid yourself. Any team, including Liverpool could use improvement all the time!

Buy a good LB ( Jordan amavi/ Tierney/ Gibbs / kosalniac) . Also if possible get a deal agreed for the summer for that lad Frank kessie like the one we did for gujric.
Thats not too much I hope 😋.

Icardi is perfect imo. strong, fast, skillful and workhorse. Over the top he is a natural goal scorer would lead the line better than Sturridge.
A Klopp high would change his life forever.

{Ed001's Note - he is an utter bellend who should be nowhere the club.}

As brilliant as Milner has been I still think ultimately we will need a left but for me a really food centre half.

Don't get me wrong, we have Matip ( brilliant) and both Lovren and Klavan were great on Monday night but our biggest weakness again this season has been the defence.

Once solution is young Gomez I suppose, who I thought was fantastic before his injury but is he ready yet? I don't think so.

Would love to hear your opinion on what we should be doing in January Ed001?

As Villa don't look like getting near promotion this season I think Amavi would be a good bet. He's still young and wouldn't need to be thrown straight in as we have Milner there playing well. Klopp could ease him in over the next 6 months to get him ready for 1st choice next year.

Apart from that, unless we can suddenly pluck a world class CB out from somewhere I am happy with the squad for the rest of this season.

Cheers in advance.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced we need to do anything in January personally. I would rather see the youngsters given chances. Juanma at left back looks promising. If we buy players like Amavi, it is like telling Juanma to give it up. We do need a centre back, if Matip is going to continue to struggle with injuries. If not, I would prefer to wait until the summer.}

Still a starting calibre left back! But hold fire if no one worthwhile is available!

Icardi has the ultras on his back (maybe a bit OTT) but there's a reason for it.

He is an arse with no respect for fans or the source of his eccentric lifestyle. Like ed said, Mario mark 2.

If ojo isn't ready to come in I'd like to see a bit more pace up top-out wide. Origi and mane are rapid but studge had lost a yard or two.

{Ed001's Note - nope and nope.}

Hello Ed's,
Are we still interested in sead kolasinac?
A Jan window consisting of us buying A LB and an attacker would be nice.
Also are we one of the clubs keeping tabs of kylian Mbappe?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Previously of interest to Manchester United and Spurs, Roma, West Brom and Manchester City enquired after Schalke's Sead Kolasinac in the summer but the enquiries went nowhere. Wolfsburg, Chelsea and Liverpool also had watched toward the end of last season. West Ham and RBL have had him watched this season. Wolfsburg remain unclear on the future of Ricardo Rodriguez still and may turn again to the player if Schalke cannot agree and extension.

Real Madrid have spoken with Monaco regarding Kylian Mbappé about an agreement to possibly recruit him in once their ban is over. A number of clubs have been watching him including Barcelona, Porto, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Bayer Leverkusen, Rennes, Marseille and PSG, but next year might be a better time for a move. Arsenal are talking to Monaco about options for another player on their youngsters list and Porto might yet push but one would expect both sides to struggle to fund a move, whether they have the money or not. Manchester City were rebuffed in August with a significant offer. The sort of figures that one side were quoted would remove most clubs who have looked at him from bidding - including Marseille, Porto, Liverpool, Renne, Bayer Leverkusen and, I suspect, Arsenal.}

Thanks a lot for the reply Ed. I was actually hoping these two would be more in our affordable bracket especially given their contracts. Anyway there must be plenty others we can look at just as good 😆.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Kolasinac will be out of contract in the summer.}

21 Dec 2016 14:34:27
Yup Ed that's why I felt he was more in the context what we would look at as value for money.
With Mbappe too there were rumours he wants out of Monaco and has just 2 yrs remaining on his contract so thought he would be available near the 20-25M mark at a stretch.
Anyway just want us to get a good LB and a quality attacker in the Jan window if possible. With Sakho Illori and markovic leaving to ressurect their careers in some other good teams hopefully.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think you have been misled rather. Mbappe signed the longet contract he could for a 17 year old and it runs until 2019. Liverpool are not in a position to pay the asking price for him - and the asking price was there to deter Real Madrid.}
