Looks like Ashley Young may not be arriving, he brought a new house in Hertfordshire recently so it may look like he's going near London, possibly Spurs.

Ed just been reading that we had a last gasp bid for llorente at 30m rejected is this true and do you think we will go back? {Ed002's Note - There was a bid and Liverpool may go back. There is interest from elsewhere: Bayern, Spurs and others.}

Hi Ed I've been talking to a mate who insists he is in the know and he has said that we may be looking at Tripy Makonda. Can't say I know anything about the lad but it seems like such an unusual and unlikely name to pluck out of thin air I'm wondering if there may be something in it. What do you think {Ed002's Note - I know he plays for PSG but no nothing of him at all. I am not even sure if he plays in teh first team yet.}

Ed I don't know why people say we have got "no chance" of signing hazard. I understand it is unlikely but we have watched him lots of times and according to reports in belgium and france this week we put a bid of 16 miliion euros in last week. Links came from jeremy_lfc on twitter? Please reply {Ed001's Note - the reason being is that he wants Champions League football.}

{Editorial Missive: We are done with all of these what makes a red a red, born within the sound of foghorns etc. posts and are not going to post essays from other sites. Some folks are getting PO with the audacity that a true red could never be born outside of spitting distance of Anfield and a number of the posts are becoming offensive. So the easiest solution is to just to end it.}

What makes a Red a Red? Are some Reds more Red than others? Are all Reds considered equal, or are some Reds just more equal than the rest?
Since the tumultuous reign of Hicks & Gillett ended the managerial career of Rafa Benitez; oversaw the rise to prominence of Christian Purslow and introduced a period in Liverpool history where every tabloid appeared to have free access to source inside scoop after inside scoop; there has been an ever increasing regularity to the "you are not a real Red" denouncement, "I'm more Red than thou!"
And so, again, I feel this urge to ask the question, "what makes a Red a Red?"
You see, for me being a Red is a case of identity - not a simple concept at the best of times, but when speaking of the club I love, the club I know you love, it is best described, for me, as a sense of empathy.
If you want to cry when we lose and cheer when we score; you, to me, are a Red. When the outcome of your day can be defined by LFC's results on the pitch; you, in my mind, are a Red. When you seek out the company of other Reds for a sense of camaraderie, of belonging; surely, you are a bona-fide Red.
So how are you more Red than I, or I more Red than you; when we support the same team and our emotions crest and fall to the same highs and lows? And, perhaps, more importantly - why would I even want to make you feel as though you were any less of a Red?
Is there a hierarchy that we have not been made aware of; one based on memories, experiences or the number of games we attend? Is geography a consideration; does Red fade with distance, the way quality on a long distance call can sometimes degrade? Perhaps there is a test to be passed at induction; where rank will be assigned based on the players you can name and the era in which they played.
If so, I didn't get that memo - and if I had, I think I would have sent it back unread.
You see, you could make the argument that distance makes the heart grow fonder; that it takes more dedication to be an overseas Red. One could put forward the view that tales of past endeavours, handed down through the generations create the mystique that results in a more awe-inspired younger Red.
When we speak of those who would make disheartening and taunting comments about Munich, we all can agree those are disillusioned and disappointing Reds. If you are asked why we do not buy the Sun and despise Kelvin MacKenzie by a Liverpool supporter, we know we have found an uninformed Red.
However, whilst we may react to the disappointing sect with contempt, confusion or derision; should we really attempt to disown and cast them out? When you find yourself explaining the Sun's role in desecrating the memories of Hillsborough, do we honestly think it is right to displace our anger onto those Reds that did not know?
Instead, are these not opportunities for education, enlightenment - to teach and help them find out, learn what is wrong and how Reds should conduct themselves? Does Liverpool FC not deserve our dedicated efforts to support and guide each other - surely that is what being a better Red should really be about?
We all probably have members of our own families that disappoint that leave the path of the straight and narrow or do so many different things that just serve to confound us. We have those members of the family who always ask questions; because they just didn't realise something or perhaps just want to know. But they remain members of the family, whether they are ignored, loved or never spoken about. They are linked to us genetically - part of our DNA regardless.
Because, as Shankly first taught us, and as his walking heir Dalglish is trying to remind us - we are all custodians of the fine traditions of this club, it does not belong to any one of us and we are strongest when we are united. So I ask again - why would we want to leave anyone feeling left out?
So when we interact with each other, perhaps it is time we remember - being a Red is about being that custodian, about linking the present and future to the past. We are all supposed to guide and support the newer and older supporters alike; lend a helping hand, be on hand to provide an answer or an informative fact. This is Liverpool FC, we have at times been proclaimed as the worlds greatest football fans. So should we not, perhaps, have a better idea than others of how we are meant to act?
Remember - This is The Liverpool Way and no Red should ever be made to feel they walk alone.

Ed when do you think Maxi will leave? His wages are too high and he is just horrible. Any chance he'll move on this summer?

{Ed002's Note - He may well leave in the summer.}

21 Mar 2011 17:22:02
I see we are being linked with fernando gago for a possible 8 million summer move. I believe at that price it as got to be great business didn't they pay around 20 million for him.I know he hasnt played much this season, but he is a quick solid defensive midfielder and at 24 yrs of age he his the exact profile that comolli wants to identify.I would deffo like this signing 8 million for Gago what a steal.

Gents, Baines rumour is going haywire today apparently contact has been made to try and get something done before end of the season. It is mooted that moyes needs to ()lose two players/ raise 15 mill and he feels a left back will be easier to replace than rodders or fellaini. . .looks like any left back in the championship will have to do because he won't get much of the fee to put back in to first team affairs! imho this could be a dream move not only for baines but for carroll too

{Ed002's Note - I don't agree that players such as Sanchez are realistic. As for a left back, Baines may be an option.}

hi ED boris here thanks for feedback but why don't you think sanchez is realistic there has been speculation correct
boris

{Ed002's Note – I will try and explain what I know to be correct and what is “rumoured” about Alexis Sanchez. We know that Chelsea and Inter Milan have made unsuccessful bids, and we know that Manchester United and Barcelona have a declared interest. Juventus had previously been interested but were hoping that (a) Sanchez stayed under the radar until a deal could be struck, and (b) Udinese would look kindly on an arrangement that included some cash and several players either in exchange, on loan or in part-ownership as part of the deal. As an aside Juventus have proposed a similar deal for Javier Pastore. Anyway, there was a January meeting with Chelsea in Monaco and broad agreement was reached over the transfer before Giampaolo Pozzo said that the deal must include a loan of the player back to Udinese. Whilst Barcelona were apparently willing to agree to this until the end of the season, Pozzo proposed that whoever Sanchez moved to should allow him to be loaned back for 18 months – hence the end of any discussions. I expect that Juventus will not come back in to the picture. Although Sanchez has been watched by numerous teams, there is nothing new other than a "rumour" that Manchester City may be preparing a bid as well. They have, like Juventus, recently been knocked back in a bid for Pastore and are likely to aim their cheque book in another direction – this may well be Sanchez. I suspect that we will see a saga drag out through the summer transfer window as Pozzo puts the player on the market, takes him off the market, values him at €100M and so on. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Inter will all likely remain interested but could well tire of the expected drawn-out negotiations. Manchester United and Chelsea were both originally wary of the player being not quite as robust as needs be for the EPL. Perhaps Inter will get their man.}

I don't know whether we have ever watched him but filipe luis of atletico is one player I would like to see in a red shirt. Super player with pace, tackling ability and a good cross, he would be a very good option for LB. Though he might not come cheap. Have we ever tracked him before ed? also I am not sure but did he signed a new deal last year?

Ed what clubs are intrested in hazard at the moment

{Ed002's Note - Aside from signing a new contract with Lille, Arsenal and Juventus have shown the most consistent interest. If he were to be put up for sale there would eb a number of other options open to him. He will not be moving to Liverpool - at least any time soon.}

I was referring to Marcus Pederson of vitesse 20yr old played against England for Norway months ago.
Thanks ed {Ed001's Note - cheers, I will see if I can dig up anything on him, I don't know off the top of my head, but it is possible.}

Actually I am from Hamar (Norway), where Marcus started his career. He is seen as this town's greatest talent ever, and after he went to a bigger norwegian club, everything has gone upwards for him. He played regular for Stromsgodset's first team in the norwegian Tippeliga, and scored many goals. He has also played for Norway U21 and is seen as one of the best norwegian prospects atm. As i recall he is not yet in the discussion of the senior national team, but should be after the Euro2012 (if we even qualify. ).
Good striker, but honestly I'm not sure if he's better than N'Gog or Pacheco. In my opinion we should look at Bojan or RVW, much better.

According to SSN we are looking at jeffren from barca. I know our scouts have looked at hundreds of players and it's almost impossible to know exactly who there is firm intrest in, but do you think there is any truth in this? also, I've not seen alot of him playing, do u rate him?

{Ed002's Note - He was certainly looked at earlier in the season by Liverpool and by Marseille.}

In all honesty I reckon the names coming to Liverpool in summer are

Young- winger/ midfield

Marveaux - winger/ midfield

Baines - left wing back

Gervinho- striker/ winger

M. Pederson -striker/ winger

Adam - holding/ centre midfield

Ed think these are likely?

Ant {Ed001's Note - which Pederson are you referring to? Gamst? If so I don't think he is likely at all but the rest are very plausible, at this moment in time anyway, there is still a long way to go before the window opens though.}

Ed I know it's hard to say but in ur opinion who do u think Charlie Adam would be more likely to join , us or tottenham? . . . The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96

{Ed002's Note - You are spot on, it is hard to say. Assuming Blackpool do not price him out of a move to either, and assuming Aston Villa do not go down, I would expect him to have the choice of Aston Villa, Spurs and Liverpool. Macac says it is pretty much a done deal, so I will have to agree with him and say Liverpool.}

Morning Eds there are a few CB's I like the look of around Europe at the moment that I've mentioned before but I'm wondering about the possibility of one from the premiership namely Christopher Samba. Not a name on everyones lips I expect but do you think he would be a good option?

{Ed002's Note - His name has come up in the past. I personally don't see him as the level of quality Liverpool should be looking at.}

21 Mar 2011 10:37:17
Ed do you think we will sign moussa sissoko and what are your thoughts on the player

{Ed002's Note - I think he would be a really great buy. He will move on this summer and there will be much interest in the player from across Europe. His agent has been doing the rounds building up interest and Liverpool have shown soime interest. This is where Comolli needs to do his job if he really is a target. He will be tough to get, but very well worth it.}

Atl tico Madrid will sign Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan in the summer after the player himself leaked the news to his teammates, reports El Mundo Deportivo. The Galatasaray captain was previously a target for Los Colchoneros last year, which led to his club issuing a statement in August, 2010 that their man was not for sale, but the 24-year-old has reached a 'gentleman's agreement' with the Turks enabling him to leave if Atl tico come up with a suitable offer.

The Madrid side are now willing to pay around £11m for a player who holds over 40 caps for his country; after Euro 2008 he was also ranked eighth in a list of the 100 Best Young Football Players in the World by Spanish football magazine Don Bal n.

Turan is expected to pen a five-year deal at the Vicente Calder n and he could be joined by Lille's 23-year-old winger Gervinho, who is also interesting Arsenal and Liverpool. The Ivory Coast international was signed for £7m from Le Mans in July 2009 and despite him being a key member of the Lille side, the cash-strapped club's hand may be forced by any reasonable offer.

{Ed002's Note - I can confirm that in addition to Arda, Atletico have been showing an interest in Gervinho. I am told that Gervinho has a preference for England but it depends what offers are made. He expects to move in the sumemr.}

Hey Ed, I've been doing a bit of research into possible Bosman players coming up in the summer. I'm not 100% on whether all of these players are coming up on a bosman in the summer or whether they have signed new deals but here's a list of what I feel may be cheap/ effective squad players for the 2011/ 2012 campaign.

Sebastian Larsson - 25yr old- RM - Arsenal Trainee for 5-years, contract is up with Birmingham in the summer, a few La Liga clubs interested, as well as Man City, Newcastle and Blackburn.

Victor Vazquez - 24yr old - Attacking Midfielder - contract is up with Barcelona in the summer, features in the Barcelona B team. Arsenal have shown interest but with a previous shady deal between the two clubs, Barcelona would prefer not to sell to Arsenal. Could also be used as backup for Raul Meireles/ Steven Gerrard.

Sylvain Marveaux - 24yr old - LM - Rennes Midfielder with contract up in summer. Most heavily linked player to Liverpool. 118 Senior games for Rennes, 20 goals and 16 assists. Could prove to be a good squad player.

These are the most likely Free Agents in the summer, chances of signing Marveaux are very likely whereas the other two are mere possibilities. Ed, do you agree that Larsson and Vazquez could be viable squad options this summer?

{Ed002's Note - Thanks for your efforts. You are right that Sylvain Marveaux is the most likely to sign. The problem with the others is that the cost of bringing in more squad players like these is significant financially (signing on fees, wages) and it will be taking opportunities away from the younger players. Many of the fans want to see the youngsters have a chance, but they will never get that chance if the squad is padded out such players as these.}
