Liverpool are lining up a bid for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 17 year-old Croatian talent is regarded among the best young players on the continent and has attracted interest from Manchester United, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Liverpool know talks over Kovacic's sale are now intensifying with less than six months to run before the summer market. Zagreb media sources say Liverpool are keen to strike a deal now with Dinamo to avoid an inevitable auction for the midfield schemer in June.

Anyone know anything about this fella? Ed?

Jonesred {Ed002's Note - You need to read other posts and use the search function.}

Eds i just tried the search function for mateo kovacic there was no search results found just letting you know
giblet {Ed002's Note - You are doing something wrong - it works fine for me. But as you are struggling, Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid and no doubt others have an interest in Dinamo Zagreb's Kovacic. Seen to be one for the future but I suspect that if he does move any time soon he could spend time in Germany gaining experience before a move to one of the more major players in European football. In the summer, Barcelona offered up a small financial payment for Kovacic on what I understand to be an 8 year contract with the first two years back on loan in Zagreb.}

To be honest Ed002 i wasn,t wanting you to have to rewrite it all i was mainly letting you know that i was having problems with the search function i thought it might have been the spelling but i googled it and i had it right i tried 4 to 5 times i dont really know much of the player hence the only reason i wanted to check on what you had said but thanks for taking the time anyways i got some of what you said from google about arsenal and barcelona there was nothing on lfc alleged interest tho but cheers for the reply

Reports out of Germany are claiming that both Arsenal and Liverpool have re-ignited their interest in Werder Bremen attacking midfielder, Marko Marin.

Apparently representatives from both clubs watched Marin score at the weekend in Werder Bremen's 3-1 win over Hamburg and this is what has sparked off the new round of rumours.

Marin has long been connected with Arsenal and Liverpool but nothing concrete ever seemed likely to happen, but if the reports of representatives from both clubs being present at the game are true, it will at the very least indicate interest.

Marin would not come cheap, a fee of £20 Million is thought to be required and even that is on the low side and in the case of Arsenal, that may prove to be too much.

Whatever happens, it is hard to see Bremen holding on to the 22 year old who is destined for great things.

Taken from the net today.

Jonesred.
{Ed002's Note - Arsenal, AC Milan, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Napoli, Juventus and Roma have all shown an interest in Marko Marin in the past. Much will depend on whether or not Liverpool make the Champions League as to whether he is a viable option or not; and the summer is a considerable distance away at present. Perhaps Italy is the most likely destination, and I understand his preferred destination.}

Not quite true with the post there mate, arsenal only started to show real interest during the summer months!, spurs, like one of the teams ed mentioned nearly signed the player during the summer but club unrest (modric), prevented the deal from going through! They had been watching him for about a year and a half now? But im told they have since lost interest?

With all due respect, there is zero chance players like Marin will sign for Liverpool, certainly if they're not playing in the CL.

There are 9/10 teams in Europe who will sign players like Marin, whilst clubs like LFC will chase a second, lower-quality tier of players.

This isn't anti-LFC, it is just the way it is.

BTW - I am not a ManUtd or Everton fan.

Hello Ed002,
do you think that Liverpool will be looking to bring in a defensive midlfielder in the summer and do you think that rumours about Alonso coming back are just rumours? He was great, he is great. A great passer, great defender but I'd prefer to see someone new, maybe a bit younger - Xabi is almost 31. Will it all be based on Lucas situation and his recovery? Thank you for all your hard work. {Ed002's Note - Unless Lucas leaves then no. There are no Alonso rumours I am aware of.}

People need to forget about Alonso its getting boring now everyday for 2 years people want him back HE IS GONE move on.He is not getting any younger and we have to look to the future not the past.

Eds what do you think about Algeria's Youssef Msakni he's a attacking midfielder, great close control, shots,pace,etc... but would he be a cheaper and better option than somebody like Marko Marin.

Smithy {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of him.}

22 Feb 2012 18:59:05
eds do you think if johnson left, instead of isla liverpool could get gregory van der wield of ajax? Suarez could help lure him. {Ed002's Note - No I don't.}

If i may ask what are the reasons of him not coming? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool not having any interest in the player and the players desire to move to Valencia should be enough for a start.}

Lmao Ed, ok whether your correct or not about him desiring a move to Valencia but one queer question, why would he want to move to Valencia when there are clubs bigger than them who can offer him first team soccer and pay him his wages??. Infact i can even name a few, Firstly, our very own Johnson as the post was based on, Man Utd could use him as well as Rafael is not ready for the step up, Chelsea could be in for him as Bosingwa is getting on in age and very injury prone, best of all Barcelona might try for him to suceed Dani Alves!!. I agree that LFC need to have an interest in him, but would just like to know how you know that he has a desire to move to Valencia.... {Ed002's Note - The only thing that stopped the move in January was a 2M euro difference in asking and offer price. Chelsea were the other club but moved their attentions to Azpilicueta.}

Ins + Outs (no inside knowledge, just opinion)
Ins
RB (Isla)
CDM
Left Winger (Tadic)
Right Winger (M. Phillips)

Outs
Johnson

Thats a lot of outs especially in the attacking dept with very few ins!

Well it looks like we'll be in a relegation fight next season if these come in!!

I don't know why people want Isla! I've never seen him play but an Italian friend told me his worse than Dossena.

He's a very good player, just hope he comes back from his injury the same player.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool seem to be more interested in Phillips from Blackpool.}

Just another British talent. He is quality but I just hope we didn't splash 10-15M on him 4-6M would be reasonable. If Blackpool starts playing hardball then move on...

Agree if any english club hold us 2 ransom we should just tell em to f off

He is one of the brightest young talents in the Championship and just named in the Scotland squad but I was hoping this Summer we would go out and buy real, proven quality that could make an impact immediately. We have bought enough 'potential' already. Also, if I was to pick a player from the Championship I would say Zaha but Phillips probably offers more value.

are liverpool watching that hertha player raffael eds? Is he any good? {Ed002's Note - I would be a little surprised if there was much interest in him. Raffael has a decent goalscoring record for sides who have strikers that struggle to get goals. Sampdoria have been after him for a couple of years but a move to Serie B seems unlikely. There was also talk of enquiries from Atalanta and Lokomotiv Moscow during the recent window.}

eds you say that a winger is priority in the summer. im not gonna ask who ask i know the summer is long off. however players with great potential that go under the rader and are worth peanuts often slip under us. then we end up complaining about players like downing and co. for e.g marco reus went for about 17 mil euros how come we never went in for him. countless others. one poster mentioned here dusan tadic who last year was third or fourth in the world for assists at fc gronigen. just wanted your views eds.
thanks. {Ed002's Note - It is down to where the management team's interest lies. We cannot say why Liverpool don't bid for your favourite player - and the same is true for other fans favourites. It is not a case of whether or not a player can be bid for - but does he want to move to England? Is he looking for Champions Leage? Is he happy where he is? Does his club want to sell? Will there be language probles? Cultural problems? Is he what the club needs? It goes on and on. At present the focus appears to have shifted to Phillips of Blackpool for width. We will see.}

I have not seen much of him and he is playing for a championship side. Do any of the Eds know how good he is, RW is our primary target position this summer and we should not mess up. But if any of Eds have good info about him and think he is good enough and going to be a top player in the future. I am okay with that.

kuyt 5-8m
cole 5-8m
aqualani 4-5m
maxi 2-3m
aurelio-free
doni-1-2m
jones 1-2m
darby,ecceleston,mendy 1m
johnson 10-12m

total 29-40m with owners giving around 20-40m depending on champions league

my choice of ins:
mauricio isla 12-15m
luuk de jong 12-15m
matt phillips 5-8m
dusan tadic 12-15m
gaston ramirez 12-15m
total 53-68m

Think aqua man will be worth more, if he is hurt with milan and cannot finnish his loan deal

Cole 5-8m (more like 2-3mil)
maxi 2-3m (out of contract)
jones 1-2m (will be allowed to leave for free)

Ecceleston is a big talent why to sell him {Ed002's Note - There have been issues and he is not going to get a first team chance anytime soon it seems.}

We need a prolific goalscorer so for me 2 signings Higuain and James Gonzalez £45 mil in total should do it.
kidmillions

Who is this phillips?

Dont know what your talking about.aqualani would go for about 10 m plus, you t**t. {Ed002's Note - Aquilani will be sold for 7M euro and if you deduct from that Liverpool's contribution to his wages this year it makes it about £4-5M.}

Eds I've used the search function but can't find the answer, who were the players Liverpool had organized to sign under Benitez but Hicks and Gillet wouldn't release the funds? I know David Villa, Silva and some others ?? It's annoying me I can't find the answer.
Cheers

Aussie red {Ed002's Note - I am not sure that there were others.}

It was in an interview a while back on BBC with Dan Walker, he also wanted Jovetic and Dani Alves before Barcelona signed him but said the owners would not fund the moves.

Malouda was one, so they signed babel

I know there were that's why I'm asking, I believe it was ED001 that originally said who they were, I think Xavi was another one.
Aussie red {Ed001's Note - not Xavi, he was not for sale during Rafa's era. The problem is that the stories get mixed up with the deals Rick Parry messed up, so it is difficult getting it straight. The definite deals that were pulled are Villa and Silva, I am not sure if the Dani Alves one wasn't a Parry mess up, just like not getting Ronaldo was.}

There was also Dani Alves, Simao Sabrosa, Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Jovetic, Malouda

Some of them were from the Moores era though...

Mata was one

And Baraja and Aimar

CP

There was also Dani Alves, Simao and Barry I think.

Wern't Samao and Alves wanted by Rafa?

Don't forget Gareth Barry, we offered £16m max, Villa wanted £18m.

We were also offered first refusal on Aguerro by Atleti around the time we signed Torres, but Parry wouldn't free up the purse strings.

Jovetic was defo one.

Jovetic was one solely because he humiliated our CB's when Fiorentina dumped s out if the Group stages... Dani Alves was also one as we were putting together a massive 90M bid to get him and Silva and Villa off valencia. I also reckon that we were after Bale and Walcott, Bale more.but lost out to Spuds. From that Era, i wish we had registered an interest in Luka Modric and a firm interest in Aguero......

Vidic!

Yes vidic was a major rick parry mess up. Rafa had earmarked him a full year before united showed any interest and didnt move fast enough rafa was raging at the time.Dani alves another parry mess up. simao jovetic barry bale the list goes on but every club has missed opportunities.
DCG

Didnt Rafa want C Ronaldo aswell but Thompson said hes no better than we already had

Some idiots posting on this feed. Alves was at Sevilla not Valencia and Thompson says in his autobiography that he and Houllier were told by an agent they could have Ronaldo for £4m. Next thing they know he's gone to Utd for £12m.

I know for a fact ( cos I used to speak to Rafa a the school gate often) that he had two players signed sealed and delivered pending medicals which he claimed Cristian
Purslow cancelled the medicals for.
The first player on a free was Chamack who ended up at Arsenal. The second was Hazard who obviously never moved after his medical was cancelled but apparently the fee & contract were all agreed {Ed002's Note - Benitez had no agreement for Hazard.}

I heard Rafa was in for Poulson but Rick Parry was too slow signing the £20 million cheque.

Lucky enough, Roy was able to pull it off a year later!

redmersey

WHAT DOES IT MATTER - NIONE OF THEM CAME ! Even if they had it doesn't mean that we would be any better than we are now - everything is speculation
DM

For some reason my earlier post on this was not published so I will write it again. It is a fact (which Ed001 will confirm) that the transfer of David Villa was all but done and dusted as reward for finishing runners-up and he being seen as the final piece toio take us the extra step to EPL champions. Right at the last minute H&G pulled the plug and that left Rafa in a dreadful position having promised the players. Torres was gutted and basically decided back then he was going. The split between H&G and Rafa was irrepairable. The impact it had on the morale of the team was partly the reason for the poor start to the following season and almost certainly led to the final bust-up between Rafa and H&G. RED LENIN

In 2005 we came close to getting Simao only for benfica to hike up the asking price, so Parry pulled the plug

we came close to getting Dani Alves in 2006 Parry pulled the plug again
We nearly bought Vidic as well

In 2008, we earmarked moves for Villa, Silva and Jovetic
But then the credit crunch came :/

2009 we missed out on Barry as well know the Barry saga haha

Last year we missed out on Jones and Young because united offered higher wages and European football

We also went for Mata and Given, but Mata's preference was chelsea and Given didn't want to play second fiddle to reina

DM shut up!!

You have missed the points that all fans are saying! we have missed the chance to sign multiple players that where and are top players but because of funds and Board members not wanting to put there money where there mouth is. Then we go and bow a fortune and gamble on players who do not perform!

As far as i remember gareth barry was wanted but those two muppets wouldnt give rafa the money you mention villa and silva i think the other player from valencia was olibal central defender he was the third player in the supposed 70 million deal rafa had set up but it all fell through godbless 96 & all reds steviep48

Ed's Have any Premiership clubs shown interest in Nathan Redmond of Birmingham?

He looks a fast, talented winger who can beat players and put it a decent cross, surely someone Liverpool scouts should be monitoring? {Ed002's Note - Although I understand Liverpool did take a look at the kid I don't know of any lingering interest from the club. At his age he would be someone who would be a fair distance away from first team opportunities. Liverpool seem to be more interested in Phillips from Blackpool.}

I don't know Redmond personally, but a good friend of mine is friends with him. He said that Nathan told him we were interested in him along with Man City, with City being the more serious of the two in regard to making a sufficent bid.
Personally i think it would make a mockery of our youth system if we splashed out 10M on Redmond when we have Sterling who practicaly plays the same role, aswell as Suso who could also be used as an attacking option.

Liverpool should try and get Mathiu Valbuena from Marseille in summer. Won't be expensive than 12-15M. Good feet, lost of pace good passing... Better than Adam Johnson for me for the right wing. ..I know Liverpool had interest in the player in the past but think we should go fro him now. Sure he can deliver it ..can be another player who can make a difference in the team like Bellers & Suarez. {Ed002's Note - Valbuena was for sale over the summer and there was interest from several clubs, with Arsenal showing some interest the previous year - due to a enquiry via Jose Anigo that was pushed back at the time. There was also speculation in France that Arsenal would make an approach to Marseille to take Valbuena as a replacement for Nasri but that never happened. Right now the player is not looking to move and Marseille are not looking to sell - but no doubt a massive offer might tempt them. There is no interest from Liverpool.}

Summer transfer targets are James McCarthy, Luuk De Jong, Mauricio Isla & Matt Phillips. Perhaps a 'big name' arrival too should Liverpool qualify for the CL.

Another CM would not be helpful. IWe'll have to compromise several exciting CM prospects for that adn i just hpe, We aren't signing it. Though Mccarthy is really a very good player. YNWA

If thts the case we are screwed mccarthy has had a terrible season being dropped from the wigan side on several occasions and the others are no improvement on what weve got already.
DCG

Championship it is then! oh well at least i'll be able to get lfc tickets then.

22 Feb 2012 08:33:24
hey ed's, have we ever looked at seydou doumbia? i think his pace would compliment what strikers we already have tremendously. {Ed002's Note - There was an enquiry from Newcastle in January about Doumbia and it is likely if there is another English team who have actually enquired it will be Arsenal. No doubt other clubs have had scouts at games but that is some way from making any serious enquiries for the player. Doumbia does a good job of talking himself up and CSKA will likely want £25M or so for the player. Getting through to the last 16 of the Champions League made a January move unlikely. I would not hold your breath over him moving to Liverpool.}

22 Feb 2012 07:59:45
Hey Ed's, do you know if we've looked at Luciano Narsingh? The kid's a menace down the right wing; he can dribble, he's got pace, can pick a pass and cross a ball. He is exactly what we need. {Ed002's Note - As far as we are aware there has been no interest in Narsingh from anyone other than Ajax.}

Just wanted to add my vote for Narsingh. I watch him play for Heerenveen each week and him and Bas Dost are such a handful for defenders. He's not quite the finished product yet but I would love to see him in the red shirt. However, Dutch hero Marco van Basten is going to manage Heerenveen next season and I hear that Narsingh is determined to stay and play under him. (He's already turned down Ajax). So, probably not coming to us. -SH-

22 Feb 2012 07:55:20
Morning eds do you have an idea of how much Liverpool will have to spend in the summer,if we get champ league don't you think we should try our hardest for levezzi.and over the past a lot wanted Sturbridge but the more I watch him he plays for him self an for the cameras,don't like that type of player and happy we didn't get him.what's your thoughts on him?
Kp {Ed002's Note - I am sure that the owners will be supportive of the management team but don't expect vast amounts to be spent. I have answered elsewher about Lavezzi.}

22 Feb 2012 06:47:36
Hello eds,
now that Cavani and Lavezzi scored again and put Chelsea on the verge of elimination from CL I'm sure that it'll be almost impossible to get any of them. I know it's too early to say but do you think Eds that there is any chance to buy or any interest at all from Liverpool in Cavani or Lavezzi?Cheers. {Ed002's Note - There is no chance of Cavani. As for Lavezzi, it is possible that Liverpool could show an interest if Suarez leaves but I understand this morning that Napoli will be looking for a very significant fee for Lavezzi.}

You guys want them when they are star. 2 years a go I post in Liverpool web site look for Hamsik people laugh of me. last year ask to think about inler same result. when post about isla people even ask am i his agent? Liverpool don't have money to buy Hamsik , Lavezzi and Cavani now. each of them will cost at least £40m to £50m . Real , City and Chelsea all want them. so dream on about a superstar.

hhh

22 Feb 2012 01:02:00
hye eds, are there any clubs interested in renato augusto? he is about 23 and a real talent at bayern leverkusen i believe. not just us specifically but anyone of the bigger teams across europe?

full name is Renato Soares de Oliveira Augusto. he was a product of flamengo's youth academy and now has been at leverkusen siince 08. has anyone looked at him? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have been flirting with Renato Augusto since the January 2009 window. He is certainly very good and can play as a winger or attacking midfield player. I understand that he is the German based player the club were considering before his operation in October, and it is likely that Leverkusen will listen to offers in the summer.}

Thanks for clearing that up. do you expect us to make an enquiry atleast if leverkusen d wish to sell. or midfield is already packed but if he can play winger well is there a chance? {Ed002's Note - I would suggest it is less likely as time goes by.}

21 Feb 2012 23:54:56
Ed do you think there is a chance of Liverpool getting Dusan Tadic. He is an absolutely brilliant player who has the potential to be a world beater. I know there is going to be huge competition for his signature but I think he would be well worth the risk of a big bid.
N.I Red {Ed001's Note - there is always a chance, but not knowing the lad personally, it is impossible to gauge how much of a chance we have.}

Can anyone explain to me why this guy is so highly sought after? An average of 1 goal in 6 at Groningen hardly seems like a world beater.

He's a winger who gets assists for fun. {Ed002's Note - Schalke have already a replacement for Farfan in hand by signing Chinedu Obasi on loan and are looking to Groningen's Dusan Tadic for next season. Interest in Tadic is also being shown by Roma, who had a bid turned down in January, Hamburg and Borussia Monchengladbach.}

Tadic looks like he could be a superstar. A dream left winger's left foot, his crossing looks amazing, and has a playmaker's right foot, can pick out an excellent forward pass and a good finish. If it meant getting Tadic into the team, i'd even put Downing on the right!
