Hi ED002

With Tottenham looking likely to make a move for Adama Traore. Could you see Liverpool also entering the race to sign him, or are Liverpool still not in a position financially to make a suitable offer?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - As I have said - if Wolves would entertain terms for him then maybe.}

Reports of a possible loan with obligation to buy in media today ( for spurs), seems like a possible option for us if true? There is def a player in there if he could gain more composure in front of goal and can be explosive, think he would def create space for others like mane, salah and jota also. i know he can divide opinion but he reminds me of salah when he first snubbed us and moved to Chelsea in that he gets into promising positions but lacks that finishing touch.

Dow, Salah scored 10 goals across all competitions in the two years before joining Chelsea, including a very prolific spell in the champions league where he was absolutely destroying defenders and showing he could finish, at no point in Traore’s career has he ever got even close to 10 goals across all competitions. You can’t coach finishing ability and composure, and if they couldn’t get that into him at La Masia I don’t think anyone else is going to succeed, he’s just power and pace, no subtlety or finesse. With any luck Spurs will get it over the line so we don’t waste money that we can’t afford to waste.

Actually you can coach both finishing and composure. But with Adama you clearly can’t, because he’s had some of the best coaching and he’s now beyond, it’s like that saying of old dog new tricks. He’s at a place where he’s got a theme, his pace and muscle and has rewarded himself with both money and position (regular premiership player) so in his circumstance you cannot teach him. But there are players at his age. Older, younger who want to improve to become more and then yes you can teach or coach better awareness and finishing. So with that fact he’s not for us. He’s an impact player that flatters. If Klopp sees something he got the A-Team goggles on. Adama is like that Bazooka they come across, the one that will do all that but once fired whizzed past the target and results in nothing.
Good luck to him, elsewhere please.

I thought it was clicking for Adama about 18 months/ 2 years ago but it was a false dawn. I honestly thought he was starting to kick on and could become a real top player but I think at 25 that chance may have passed as I’m not sure what more development there will be in him.
Klopp seems to love him though and every time we play Wolves he seems to publicly swoon over him and with his track record of transfers at Liverpool you have to trust his judgement, I just think playing against teams like ourselves which play a high line and can leave themselves exposed to the break is where Adama excels but the times Liverpool play against teams that set up this way over a season you can probably count on one hand.

I actually wouldn't mind adama traore as an option from the bench or a starter against teams that like to sit back and be physical.
But only if he is 20 million or so. He is not a 50 million odd player.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 10:28:52
Could be Klopp mind games. Think about it. This guy has zero threat with almost no goals or assists. You’d want that stat playing against you each time wouldn’t you. So yeah he’s incredible, amazing, unplayable, oh wow hope we don’t face him next time around so dangerous 😉.

23 Aug 2021 19:53:37
Do you think Traore will happen eds or has that ship now sailed? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps. Adama Traore (RW) not keen on a new contract - Leeds and West Ham have asked Wolves about his availability and it would not be a surprise to see some interest from Spurs. Could potentially interest Klopp who has had the hots for him before. Wolves will want a new contract agreed but have now started talks over a replacement for him.}

23 Aug 2021 20:33:17
Why don’t we go for wolves replacement for adama who will probably cost about 4 and 9 pence.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 22:15:55
Or the replacement for the replacement for Traore?

If we signed Adama we could pretend we are Galactica.

ed002 is there any clubs looking at Sheyi Ojo. Did he do any good last season on loan at Cardiff I think he made 28 starts and played is part in 44 league games out of 46 so that seem good only 5 goals and 7 Assists but am not sure how they did Cardiff.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Sheyi Ojo is really Championship fodder - I would expect a loan as there seems to be no real interest from anyone looking to buy him.}

23 Aug 2021 14:04:57
Ed 002 I recall you mention at one time he was noted as one of top 5 youngsters in the world. What went wrong for him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He was really well liked but it has gone downhill as he has not settled anywhere and there have been off-field issues.}

23 Aug 2021 14:27:52
Does it look likely that we will sign anybody. We have a great squad but feel a midfielder may be needed. Thanks in advance. You guys do great work.

Does it look likely that we will sign anybody. We have a great squad but feel a midfielder may be needed. Thanks in advance. You guys do great work.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It will largely depend on money now. For example, the wages for Saul pretty much kill any chance of a move.}

23 Aug 2021 15:53:49
Ed002
Are we looking for an established midfielder like Saul/ Bissouma or an potential top player in the game in years to come like Camavinga?
What do you think?

YNWA.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Camavinga is not moving to Liverpool. Liverpool cannot afford Bissouma without taking on considerable debt and Saul's wages would be an issue.}

23 Aug 2021 16:26:47
ed002 are athletico still looking to sell Saul with him starting there first 2 games.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - they need to get his wages off the book.}

23 Aug 2021 19:39:57
The only clubs looking at Saúl Ñíguez now in the EPL are Man Utd and Chelsea. He wants more than our pay structure will permit so there's no way we'll buy him. I think Chelsea's immediate aim is to get Jules Koundé across the line, sell Zouma to WHU and then perhaps think about SN. Man Utd seems a distinct possibility. Tottenham isn't looking at him they're buying Pape Sarr and Adama Traoré (as Madueke is not available) . We are not known to be in any conversations for any further players to come in BUT my understanding (rumours) is that we are waiting until the January window for a major deal. Make of that what you will.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 20:14:03
Ed002 could you see Chelsea paying Saul the wages he wanted or would that cause problems with some of there players. Because I think that would be Liverpool’s biggest problem not paying his wages but him being on more than players that are more important in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Players do not typically have a problem with what other players earn - certainly I am not aware of that at Chelsea. Their problem, like many clubs, sees the youngsters wanting guarantees of game time which they do not give - and that is the reason for some of the 30 departures so far this summer.}

23 Aug 2021 22:03:05
Ed002 for the wages he is on and will want do you think it’s a bit much his a very good player but that level of wages I don’t think his quite at that level as that is putting him up there with some of the very best and I think he maybe just at the level below them. But football is about opinions and most people’s are different.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right, he is a very, very good player in a world of a reasonably small number of similar players, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic might be a good example. Age wise is is hitting his prime. If Liverpool could find a way to strike a deal it would really make a difference.}

23 Aug 2021 12:58:52
If indeed we are looking to buy an attacker why are we not looking at joaqin correa he is available can play anywhere along the front line, whilst being tall he is quick holds the ball up and likes to take defenders on, I think if he comes to prem he will thrive in the same way Raul jiminez has as they are similar .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he is bound for either Athletico, Spurs or Everton mate..

23 Aug 2021 15:27:43
He has only managed 30 goals in 117 games in a good Lazio team in a poor division outside maybe 3 clubs so I wouldn't want to gamble on a player of those returns to be honest. He may come good but I wouldn't take the risk hard pass.

23 Aug 2021 07:13:54
Paper talk saying we showing interest in Marcus Thuram, the club hasn't been looking at him eds?

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They will be teasing you I am afraid.}

23 Aug 2021 10:48:25
Didn't he suffer a serious knee injury recently?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed077's Note - he did come off in the match against Leverkusen on Saturday with a suspected knee injury. Not sure how long he will be out of action for though. Unconfirmed report is he'll be out for 2 months.}

23 Aug 2021 05:22:20
Question for Ed’s 002
Mauro Icardi looks surplus at PSG and is one of a number of players destined to be moved on in light of Messi arrival. I think he could provide suitable competition for our front three, wouldn’t cost the earth, based on reports suggesting PSG want £25m for him, and if we were to move Origi on for say £10m surely he would be a good option, your thoughts.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, Liverpool has no interest in Icardi at all.}

23 Aug 2021 12:46:53
Icardi is walking drama. I would not want him near the club!

23 Aug 2021 15:29:23
Pretty sure he was the guy who cheated with his team mates wife, stole her from him, then was posting all kinds of pics with himself and the other guys children, to rub salt in the wounds.
Or I may be wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 18:28:01
I think his wife/ agent used to make rounds on tv shows in italy badmouthing teammates, club and always complaining about his contract, it would be like us having AFTV WAG style, NO THANK YOU

PS. Don't think I wish it on arsenal but it would be like watching a car crash in her doing postgame, pitchside interviews with AFTV, you know you shouldn't, but you can't help yourself taking a peek.

22 Aug 2021 23:06:24
Ed002 if we where to sign just one more player what position would Klopp most want Midfielder or versatile forward.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Klopp wanted Sanches who is a midfield player so you would think that would be the preference.}

23 Aug 2021 11:31:52
If we were to get bissouma or a ruben neves it can free up elliot and curtis jones to play attacking roles as well as fitting in midfield roles, both of them players strength is attacking more than controlling . In attack mo, mane, jota, taki, origi, Bobby we are stacked up front unless a couple leave .

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 12:21:45
Neves would get no where near our side. He would be about 9th choice.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 12:36:21
I think neves is still a great player, passing on point, shooting from range excellent, he will graft, and with world class talent around him he will thrive .

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 12:40:23
Still hoping for that Bissouma deal. I personally think we are covered for the front positions.

Bissouma will upgrade the midfield.

The forward will be a depth player and I still want to see what minamino can do. Could still be a real talent there. In the afcon, Elliott, firmino, Jota is also a pretty decent front three for the 2 games or whatever.

Overall though, even if nobody comes. Still looking forward to the season ahead.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 12:43:14
Hailstones-I think I read something recently that his long shooting is one of the worst success percentages in the league. He obviously shoots a hell of a lot and has scored a couple of crackers.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 12:51:55
I’m often surprised by the players people believe are good enough when balanced against the view of the players we have in situ.

Neves is a decent midfielder. He is not close to being a regular starter for Liverpool. As an experiment remember two years ago. Think how you rated Thiago of Bayern (one of the worlds best CM’s) compared to Gini? Most people would’ve laughed at you if you rated Gini higher than Thiago. Now ask that question?

The grass isn’t greener and players aren’t always better.

At some point, injuries notwithstanding, we will see exactly how good Naby can be. Many of us know how good he is, but I hope we get a ten game run so people can see that a midfield that is made of a three from Thiago, Fabinho, Henderson, Naby, Elliott, Jones, Milner and Ox is pretty strong. We honestly aren’t desperate to add to it, especially not players like Neves….

If we can ship out Nat and Origi it wouldn’t surprise me to see a wide player (pace + goal threat) added.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 11:59:43
ed002 do you think Elliot's form in midfield might have changed Klopp's mind as I don't think people see him coming back to us and playing in the midfield 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sanches is out injured for a few weeks so won't be joining this summer.}

23 Aug 2021 18:43:41
Don't wish injury on any player, but glad he's out right now, we don't need his deal. His style always reminded me of Lazar Markovich, he didn't really fit in.

Bissouma would provide a certain bite to I don't think I seen since certain Mascherano played for us.

Well to whomever that was worried. United are back!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

If Fernandes is taken out of that team they are at best, average. They are a collection of individuals rather than a team.

Agree6 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 09:47:19
But a collection of individuals that getting results. A board that invests into the squad each window. Expect Haaland to go there. Pogba will play his best season to guarantee a free transfer and huge payday to Paris or Juve. To just disregard them is foolish. Three of last seasons top four are improving their squads and first 11s. Let’s not just assume we walk into the top four or title challenges because VVD is back. He’s awesome, but like you say take out Bruno and Utd aren’t much. What about us if VVD, Hendo or Salah get taken out? Well we saw last season, struggle is the answer.
Let’s see how we do against the CL champions next week and their £100m summer investments. Even though their squad was already good enough to win the CL.
Maybe you’re also the type to discount Leicester and Spurs as teams to step up?

Agree6 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 10:05:38
Absolute nonsense. They have a bunch of decent players with a couple of exceptional ones - collectively they are absolutely a team who play for their manager, despite how tactically inept he is.

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 10:30:52
Bet you they don’t finish in the top 4 this year.

I think us, city, Chelsea, Leicester and Tottenham are / will be in a Tottenham’s case are ahead of them when Nuno sorts them out.

The only reason they finished second last year was because we had massive injuries in key areas and it took Tuchel a while to bed in at Chelsea. Their position last year was false in the sense that they were lucky that others underperformed / were very unlucky.

The only genuine quality player they have are Fernandes. They have players with potential but Ole does a great job keeping that under control.

My personal favourite is Maguire - if you ever have half an hour to spare you can watch him turn round.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 10:49:24
That’s nonsense Grobs. Fabs plays instead of Hendo. VVD has been average so far Gomez and Konate are very good defenders. If Salah missed a few games the other front 3 would play. Forget Mane from last season that was just a blip.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 10:59:13
As much amusement as I derived from the Southampton result, we're two games into the season and I think it's too early to derive season long form from what we've seen so far.

On paper United are short genuine quality in central midfield, no one is convinced by either of their goalies, there are still questions at CB despite Varane, and they are reliant on Fernandes staying fit and Pogba staying interested to have any incisiveness in the top third.

But Suarez dragged us to a title challenge in 13/ 14 despite the fact that Rodgers had massive gaps in his tactical ability and knowledge, had us unable to control games and defending like an Under 12 side, and didn't get the best out of at least half the players he had. Not out of the question Fernandes could paper over the big cracks at United in a similar way.

I think we're stronger than them, Man City are stronger and possibly Chelsea too, but the game doesn't always work in simple terms of who has the stronger squad.

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 11:41:23
Oh SomethingRed, it's definitely not too early! If they're struggling to control the midfield against Southampton then they're likely going to struggle against a few other teams as well and drop a fair more amount of points.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 13:30:23
Why oh why are we even bothering to talk about them🤦‍♂️.

Agree6 Disagree0

23 Aug 2021 23:24:27
I would like to think that if we get into another defensive crisis that we wouldn't spend 2 months mucking around with midfielders playing at the back. That is a patch jobn you can do for 1 or 2 games, but is not sustainable as we saw.

I wouldn't be writing off manU so readily. it's just a draw. if they win next and we draw with chelsea then we're level. I get poking fun on a week to week basis but the leap to them having a deficiency as a club is a bit off for me.
