Gomez injured. Can't stand this whole England friendly rubbish.

No doubt Southgate will play Hendo against Italy, whilst Klopp is trying to manage his situation.

😡😡😡😡.

On the plus TAA needs the game time to improve.

I must admit, I was annoyed to see Hendo stay on for the whole match!

I'd wait and see Drogie, I have a feeling there is more understanding and respect with Southgate in terms of keeping upto date with club managers. It's just a hunch but he gives the impression he sees the bigger picture whereas in the past it's almost been a club vs country mentality. Let's see.

It would also be nice for clubs (and fans for that matter) to understand the importance of the national team. I for one want Hendo to excel at national level and the national team to do well and I'm sure he does too. If that means two games then so be it

Sadly that's the problem with the premier league and its inflated opinion of itself. It should never be club v country rather the national side being the pinnacle, not the champions league. Germany get it and are successful - england teams don't and hence, in recent decades, are not.

I hate international breaks you never know what's going to happen to our players and for what. To make more money for the FA.

Agree1 Disagree1

24 Mar 2018 20:42:38
I understand the argument for getting rid of friendlies at all other parts of the year they do seem pointless and completely discrupt the flow of the league but I think the ones a few months before a major tournament are quite important, so the international managers can try and form the right team, have a look at certain players and systems otherwise they're basing their picks on club form and England duties from nearly a year ago.

For example, the last time England played the Ox hadn't played in central midfield, lingaard wasn't consistently contributing in big games and Nick Pope was a back up keeper. I do however, find this week particularly boring waiting for the prem to come back!
Cheers.

Hi Eds,

I've seen the posts that we have looked at lot of right backs for the summer, do you know if we have looked at Nordi Mukiele and if we hold a higher interest in him? He looks a talent, he's 6'1, strong defensively and plays CB as well. Also as you've said a centre back is not a priority in the summer who do you expect to be Virgil's partner start of next season or do you expect Klopp to keep rotating Matip and Lovren? I don't understand why it is not a priority, they both do not look at Virgil's level and so injury prone too. Personally I would buy someone older with a lot of experience because I expect Gomez to be starting CB in around 2 years as he still has a lot to learn and needs to cut the silly mistakes out. Pepe would have been perfect last season on a free but maybe Alderweireld, Benatia or Sokratis this summer?

Thanks Ed sorry for the long post! Just got going and couldn't stop haha.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - no idea about Mukiele sorry.

VVD's partner will be a case-by-case basis as Gomez will be given a few chances too.}

23 Mar 2018 10:31:58
I don’t think Gomez is as far off being a starting centre back for us as some people think. The only mistake I’ve really seen him make more than once are judging long diagonal balls over his head to a winger.
I might be wrong but I think that’s probably due to the fact that he’s always played centre back and isn’t used to the slightly different positioning needed to deal with this type of ball. Hopefully that means once he’s in the centre he’s not going to have that problem. And if he doesn’t have that problem I’m not really sure what issues he will have?
In which case if we spend big money on a ‘top’ centre back all we’re doing is stopping Gomez getting regular game time in his preferred position. I bet as soon as he gets the opportunity to partner VVD we won’t be worried about centre back for the next 5-10 years.

Thanks for the reply Ed001. Can I ask what top 4 positions you personally would look to buy for in the summer? And maybe list realistic but quality players you would go for?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - right back, midfield and left back. Need two in midfield in my opinion. I am not going to get into doing lists on here right now mate, bit busy sorry.}

23 Mar 2018 11:17:52
I hope you are right but the fact is Gomez hasn't played centre back this season maybe only a couple of times so I really don't think he will be able to prove himself in the position straight away - he need a to learn, make mistakes and learn from them. My point is I expect us to be challenging for the title and we need two quality centre backs especially the way we play. Matip and Lovren don't fit that, I hope Gomez learns a hell of a lot over the summer and shows himself to be that centre back that we need but there are issues with him as he is still young so I'm trying to be realistic. I rate him a lot I just think we need the quality now and allow Gomez to properly learn and gain the experience to be our next great centre back.

Xabi, completely appreciate what you’re saying. I suppose we have to hope that Klopp and the coaching staff make the right judgement as they’re in the best position to know what’s going to be best.
I’m happy to support them whatever they decide and hopefully it works out and we can challenge for the league next season!

Left back is interesting, Ed001. Do you not think Klopp should give Adam Lewis a go next season? Is he not ready yet?

Where do you stand on another player who can play across the front three in case something happens to one of the main three/ rotation/ etc.?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would send him on loan for more game time. We have Ox, Wilson and Woodburn to cover the front 3.}

23 Mar 2018 11:49:35
Robbo, moreno, Gallacher, aroyyo and Adam Lewis will be pleased if we do buy another left back.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Moreno out I was thinking.}

23 Mar 2018 15:04:32
I don’t see CB as a priority, Lovren has been good bar one game next to VVD, up to Gomez to take that spot from him. Buying another CB will mean Gomez will have to go as he’s not a right back, he’s been good at covering but he needs games at CB to kick on with his career.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Mar 2018 18:51:36
I also don't see CB as priority, we're ok there, for now. I think in time we do need another top CB incoming but it's not absolutely needed as much as other positions.

A few months ago I'd of put GK at my #1 position needing an upgrade but now I wouldn't, Karius has impressed me and he deserves his time. We have Keita incoming, I'd be delighted if we got another top CM and RB. I just have no idea what top RB's could be available? But should we get a good one in then it'd be also great to see TAA in the midfield, he's made for it.

24 Mar 2018 08:30:41
2 midfielders in plus Keita. Can out, lallana out, Milner out (unfortunately) . If they need time to settle - midfield of hendo, Gini and ox isn't bad in the mean time.

Is Max Meyer still of interest ed to us? He not been mentioned for a bit that's all.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Without a doubt he is.}

23 Mar 2018 09:50:41
I have mentioned it yesterday (though it didn't got posted) he has fallen out with Schalke and ignored their contract offer. His agent offered him to Barcelona but they don't have interest as they are buying that Arthur guy from Brazil.

The last offer from Schalke he had wasnt enough for him (5mil € per Year) so its more or less a money thing with him rather than playing time. No hints on where he is going or where he had talks as of now in the german media.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it was posted. Though it is incorrect as he has not fallen out with them as such, he is just not taking their contract offer and his agent cancelled a meeting at the last minute which annoyed the club. They would still be happy to have him stay though.}

23 Mar 2018 10:05:35
Oh now I'm getting my hopes up. Always had a good feeling Meyer could play that holding role really well for us. Would be more than happy to have him replace Can. Better passer in my opinion.

23 Mar 2018 10:34:18
I haven’t seen Meyer play, ever. Am I right in thinking he’s been playing the ‘number 6’ position that Hendo plays for us at the moment?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what "the number 6 position" is but he has been playing as a midfield player. He wears the number 7 shirt number if I recall correctly, so perhaps he plays in the "number 7 position".}

23 Mar 2018 14:25:10
Be a good signing for free. Midfield of Henderson Keita and Meyer would be nice with wiji, Lallana and ox rotating.

23 Mar 2018 12:55:08
Haha thanks ed002. That’s the reason I put number six in apostrophes. I was just hoping most people would know what i meant. Appreciate your point though.

23 Mar 2018 14:57:27
Do we have a realistic chance of getting him ed?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Measured how? You to stop asking these type of questions.}

23 Mar 2018 17:27:50
On a free I’d say he’d be a good, addition to the squad. We will be fighting on four fronts next season and the only definite midfielders that will be at the club next season are Henderson (but he does has injury issues), Wijnaldum, Chamberlain and Keita. Not enough for a full season in my opinion. One of Lallana or Milner could stay but both could easily leave too.

If we can bring in Meyer, Ceballos and say Lemar I’d be happy.

Well sounds promising if that is a position to make his own. Few stats (not that you can tell much from them) and an article of conjecture but then I don't watch the bundesliga really. I assume Klopp et al do and therefore, as there is previous interest at least, they will be taking notice. On a free? Might be worth a go. Any thoughts as to whether he would be worth it?

Hi Eds?

Are we in the market for a CDM?, if so have we shown any interest in Rodri of Villarreal?
Have looked impressive every time i watched him play.

Ndidi
Have Liverpool contacted Leicester at all at some point or not?
Thank you all!

{Ed001's Note - I am going to assume you mean regarding Ndidi and not just have they generally contacted Leicester. Not as far as I am aware.}
