Ed002 with what you've advised on Coutinho interest, has there been any recent dialogue or conversation with Barcelona or his agent regarding a possible return please?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Kia has spoken with Liverpool recently.}

I’m actually not so keen on him. He’s done very well since he left, winning many league titles and even the CL and I continue to wish him well.

But personally, I don’t see it as a good business as he is
- already 29 (and we have an ageing squad)
- actually feel that he slows down our play if he played in midfield (could be because he felt he was the best player then in LFC and hogged the ball more, but towards the end he became predictable in my opinion)
- may be back up to the front 3 but not sure that’s what he wants (and I personally wouldn’t drop Mane nor Salah for him)

I don’t think he is what we need at all in midfield Elliott Ox and Naby can play his role and in attack he plays from the left where Mane and Jota play. So I don’t think he is what we need if we are going to add a player for midfield it is more of a ball winning box to box type forward I think we need somebody that can play through the middle. Is he all so not coming back from a knee injury.
Please not.

His agent can do one and as for Cou, we are 3 times better and more all-around balanced team than the team he played in so he can take a hike and keep looking after that back injury he always seemed to have while he was here near the end.

{Ed0666's Note - now now Oli if he does come just think how hard he’ll try

Good morning Ed002

What will agents generally talk about when offering players to clubs? Kia and Couthino for example.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The desire of the player to join, terms, wages etc..}

25 Aug 2021 06:31:36
I’m assuming Ed002 that there will be members of the board who will need convincing to bring him back given the way he left and also his age and financial demand.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not the board who make such decisions.}

25 Aug 2021 08:46:16
I understand he might of hurt some of you by leaving but come on. he is still a very talented lad who needs a good environment to perform he won’t get that at Barcelona. our attacking players consist of Salah, Mane, Bobby, Jota with Origi and Mini on the fringes. Pipco is better then Origi and Mini so to come back in as an option to play on the wing or in midfield is a no brainier he’ll work so hard to get the fans back on side if we can come to arrangement with reduced salary or Barcelona pay a percentage I’m all for it.

What is with all this pinning to have Coutinho back - are we that desperate just to have a signing. As others have said he doesn't really fit the profile we like to get (a player with potential to grow/ a resale value)

You don't see the bitters after Barkley and they are dying out for a number 8 or 10 and he wouldn't set them back money wise as am sure Chelsea would be happy to get rid.

Agree6 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 08:50:09
He left brotherhood and his home. You would never know coutinho seems a player who works when he feels at home. He felt at home at liverpool.

He did throw a proper tantrum but club got awful lot of money form him which the owners reinvested and it brought us success.

Despite his age and injuries liverpool is his home and home will always welcome you back.
So if he comes its just the little magician returning for me and all is forgiven.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 09:25:45
Kloppers, he’s too weak and lightweight to play in midfield and he’s too slow to play our wide. He does not fit into our system. Not to mention the fact he’s been rubbish for the last few years, isn’t getting any younger and coming back from a bad injury.

Akira, you can’t have watched the champions league game against Barca, he was far from welcomed back. Bringing him back and saying all is forgiven is cuckold behaviour.

25 Aug 2021 09:44:44
Does he still have that back injury?

{Ed025's Note - yeah brommers, it difficult for him to ride his unicorn mate..

25 Aug 2021 09:54:18
I really don't see the appeal. He's not good enough to play across the front 3 and he'd likely take minutes from the youngsters centrally. It would be an unnecessary signing in my opinion.

25 Aug 2021 09:57:32
Vvvv Have u not seen pipco lately he’s bulked up a bit! And he’s a good player I can’t agree what your saying!
He left in a rubbishty way we all know but clubs sell players all the time regardless of them being happy there!
Let’s see what happens.

Cuckold behaviour - hahahaha, not all of us were butt hurt when he chose to go to Barca.
If he came back and put the graft in on the pitch the fans in the ground would get behind him.
Only the butt hurt fans on social media would continue to cry.
I don't think he would come to sit on our bench anyway.

25 Aug 2021 10:16:07
Jay mate, if he’s been eating pies that’s just going to make him even slower than he was before and he was never gifted with pace to start with. I’m absolutely against him signing as he doesn’t fit in anywhere in our line up, he faked injury to force a move and downed tools, he’d be a complete waste of a non home grown place and he’s not top class enough to take a risk on.

The only people we’d be helping is Barca, and quite honestly I’d be happier making both Barcelona and Pipco suffer by not bringing him back as they’ve still got to pay his huge wages whilst either not playing him or him playing badly. The only reasons I can see that people are advocating signing him are sentimental ones, none based in fact, and sentiment is worthless.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 10:23:33
Honestly, I don't really see where he would fit in anymore. Elliott and Curtis are our future and it would only push them down the pecking order.

It's not as if Phil is Saul ie almost perfect injury record and consistency over a number of years. And he doesn't have the robustness, athleticism and physicality of Bissouma either.

The only capability Phil could bring is a goal threat from distance or edge of the box. But then we think that about Ox too and that hasn't really worked out so far.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 10:13:16
Surprising one! Would the deal be a loan move Ed if anything was to happen? Presume we don’t have the funds to make an offer even though Barcelona would prefer to get rid completely.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think it is unlikely to happen but Barcelona want his wages off the books.}

Small silver lining about signing PipCo would be it freeing up Barca’s wages enough for them to sign Saul over Chelsea/ Utd.

It's funny how folks now play down Coutinho's quality because he left us. He's a tremendous player, not necessarily what we need but a gifted player nonetheless.
There's a reason Klopp wanted him to stay and Barcelona paid the huge sum to prise him away.

Agree4 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 11:45:56
It’s amusing Flash, when he was here everyone thought the sun shined out of his a** but know he is gone he is a terrible player always happens. yes he is not rapid but I’m sorry neither is Thiago or Elliot or Henderson or Keita or Milner or Jones or Firmino doesn’t mean they are not good enough. the only elite level speedsters we have in the squad are Salah and Mane or Ox, and what does that matter if he ain’t rapid he did well at Bayern it’s just Barcelona he hasn’t performed.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 11:56:09
Cmon Flash, Barcelona got rinsed by paying almost triple for a 50m player. If he came back to Liverpool, it wouldn't be the same player that left us. And if he ended up being a star purchase, you can't bet your mortgage that the lower lumbar issues would start to flare up as soon as PSG start fluttering their eyelashes. We need a promising younger player for the future, not a deserter.

25 Aug 2021 12:06:57
Hi Ed002 - has the original Coutinho fee been paid in full to Liverpool? I’m assuming it has, but was just wondering if that could be a factor here.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will not be getting anymore money for Coutinho.}

25 Aug 2021 12:07:27
Three and half years is a long time in football. He’s older, just come back from serious injury and for the most part has been absolutely awful in that three and a half years.

You have to ask why Bayern didn’t take up the option to buy, the answer is that he was very inconsistent for them too and they don’t like carrying passengers. Just ask Sanches.

It matters that he doesn’t have pace, as the only place you’d consider him currently for is in the attacking three, as he doesn’t have the work ethic and is too lightweight to play in midfield, and when I say lightweight it’s nothing to do with the fact he’s diminutive, but that he doesn’t chase, harangue and win the ball back, and we’ve got more than enough players to play as number 8 (Henderson, Keita, Thiago, Curtis Jones, Elliott and Milner) .

I get that he played we’ll occasionally for us. But that was three and a half years ago, time hasn’t been kind to Coutinho and the past should stay where it is. There can be no room for sentimental nonsense.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 12:37:28
Gents it’s unlikely anyway as has been explained so I wouldn’t get to concerned about it. I do find it strange that some would welcome Suarez back after all that he caused but would welcome Coutinho back.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 12:52:52
Agreed flash. he's a class player end of.
Certainly better than ox, keita, origi, harvey (for now) and Jones.
Now if we could get on a years loan with option to buy with sensible wages its a no brained for me.
Wouldn't be arsed either way to be fair. But who else we going to get? . Forget bissouma, that's not happening.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 12:57:35
Hi Ed002 - I was more so asking if, in situations like this (seller becomes buyer of what they previously sold) if you could essentially do a “debt forgiveness”. But if they have already fully paid off coutinho fee it is a moot point. Thank you.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sure but there will no more money coming to Liverpool for Coutinho.}

25 Aug 2021 13:30:01
VVVV - he occasionally played well for us?
Origi occasionally played well for us, I don't see Barcelona offering earth shattering sums for him.
Coutinho was a sensational player for Liverpool, hence the price tag that Barcelona willingly paid for him. Some of us remember how good he was and don't have jilted lover syndrome.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 13:55:34
TJRed - Liverpool ‘sold’ the outstanding Coutinho ‘debt’ to a 3rd party ages ago. Even if there were still any payments outstanding then they wouldn’t be going to the club (unless they come to us first to be sent elsewhere straight away) .

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 16:20:47
With Naby dazzling nd Robbo and Coutinho we'd be like the Harlem globetrotters down that leftside in some games this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 16:35:16
Flash, he literally feigned injury and refused to play for us to force the move, whilst at the same exact time declaring himself fit to play for Brazil, he had clearly has Schrödinger’s back injury, it meant he was both fit and unfit at the same time, the little snake eyed rat. To me that was outright disrespect to the club, supporters and team mates.

He was occasionally good with the odd flash of brilliance and occasionally anonymous, he only scored double figures once in the premier league, let’s not pretend he was a beacon of consistent brilliance, as he wasn’t.

Let’s also not make out that he was or is anywhere near the likes of a DeBruyne, Hazard or even (to a lesser extent) Fernandes who perform week in week out, because he wasn’t and he’s not. He was certainly not sensational, that’s just hyperbole.

Clearly both Barcelona and Coutinho have buyers remorse, it would be folly to put either party out of their misery. The fact that Barcelona coughed up stupid money is down to their profligacy after selling Neymar.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 17:30:35
Yeh but what you say doesn't show is that he increased his premier league scoring year on year, like every young player. He scored 13 premier league goals as a non centre forward in his last full season and was on course to beat that by when he left at New Years in his last season. All in all he scored 26 goals in his last season and a half. I understand the hate, and am only concerned about Lfc here not Coutinho but he is an infinitely better option either from the bench or starting than the likes of taki and Origi. Loan without obligation to buy on good terms for us and it gets us through this season where were broke with better options than what we have now, that's all that matters.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 19:56:48
VVVV we're just going to have to agree to disagree on Coutinho.
The club wouldn't have fought to keep him if he wasn't highly rated
But the money was invested wisely and brought the rewards so it ended well.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2021 04:22:20
If Klopp doesn't feel Elliott, Minamino or Jones are really ready and financially we can bring him in, then its a no brainer. He is a player that can change the outcome of a game in an instant and if he is willing to fight for a place in an already stacked offense and, more importantly, willing to fight through the absolute mountain of abuse he's bound to receive if he even puts one foot wrong. well damn sign the lad up. I loved Coutinho when he was here. He did something rotten when trying to get his dream move and it backfired on him dramatically, but it doesn't change the fact that he was well-liked here at one time and was a wonderful player for us. He's in his prime and if he adds 10 goals to this team we win the league.

Hi Eds,
Question regarding Renato Sanchez. With Klopp seemingly keen on him and Lille accepting payment by instalments, does his injury completely rule him out this window. Many thanks.

Hey Ed2,

Hope you are doing well and keeping in good health (mentally as well, considering the C.V.) .

I wanted to understand from you if Liverpool ever tried this window to sign Mbappe?

The reason I ask is I see plenty of pieces in sky and other places that say the English club interested is Liverpool and that Mbappe only wanted Real. So despite the push, the club won’t be looking at a deal.

I don’t think that is the case and I doubt we would have ever tried to do this deal as the finances we are in just won’t allow it. However, too many people think otherwise and that finances could be worked out and did try, however Mbappe has his sights set elsewhere.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No, they would be interested next summer if he is out of contract.}

24 Aug 2021 16:52:21
Interested maybe, likely to sign him though? More chance of Accrington Stanley winning the champions league this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 17:18:48
If he’s OOC he’s going to be looking at wages close to 1million a week I would guess which will seriously limit the clubs he could possibly sign for and write us out of the equation.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 17:38:35
I prefer players who actually want to play for the club without wanting ridiculous wages. We sign him next season we will never be rid of him and his ridiculous wages and he will drag the club down.

Agree3 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 18:03:09
Mickey- Mbappe is one of the best players in the world and worth being paid that way, why would he play for us on the cheap? Aside from being fans of clubs I don’t see why anyone would want to play for a team other than success and money, it’s the way it is and the majority of the time the clubs paying the most money are the most successful.
If Real are willing to pay 800k a week and we can offer say 300k he’s not going to come and play for us and that’s not being greedy on his part.

Agree3 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 18:04:17
Imagine paying him a king's ransom and he does his ACL or something in the first couple of games? And it doesn't exactly leave a lot in the kitty for other players.
All that has to be taken into consideration. Signing Mbappe would be financially putting all our eggs in one basket, and would probably end in disaster in one guise or another.

24 Aug 2021 20:24:53
Flash-We can’t afford him with all our eggs.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 22:47:48
I'm not saying I know what he thinks, but it seems Mbappe has a respect for Klopp and I glean would like to play for him.

Perhaps the Eds could elaborate, but I'd imagine one of the issues with Real offering him that kind of wage is this salary cap thing in La Liga.

I've always believed the club would be keen on him next summer - I think they can make an agreement in January?

I don't think he'd be a million quid a week at any club but to my mind it's not incomprehensible some middle ground can be found, with the implications being not too different from spreading the cost of a transfer as we've done with other players. He may even accept a larger signing on fee to reduce his wages, who knows. If we sell one or two of our front three as has been suggested, we may well have some funds to make all this happen.

Again, I think Klopp and the player are often quoted as exchanging compliments so. 🤷 Anything is possible.

Ed002.you have stated more than once that in the case of LFC given their financial model and the state of finances because of C.V. Klopp needs to utilise what he's got much better. I agree but the argument holds more if your competitors are doing the same which is not the case with City, Chelsea and United. Do you still think LFC will pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat and surprise us with a quality signing in what's left of this window or is this just wishful thinking while the main rivals go on strengthening their squads?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing stopping Liverpool doing the same as the other clubs. Liverpool will look to add a player still.}

24 Aug 2021 16:41:44
This point is so frustrating.

Chelsea are rectifying mistakes? Why?
City haven’t effectively succession planned (Silva and Aguero) and are having to make massive signings because quite frankly it isn’t a strength of Pep or the club, realistically City’s best players (Silva, Aguero, Kompany, Fernandinho, KDB, Toure and Sterling) are all the players Pep inherited. He’s spent a billion pounds and still has a gap in midfield, one decent forward and clothes horses instead of a decent left back. Why?
United are finally making considered signings with what appears to be some thought as opposed to the previous scatter gun approach? Why?

They are all trying to catch Liverpool. We don’t need to make massive signings or perform root and branch surgery because we already did. We did it over the course of six years…indeed our big expenditure is on keeping the worlds best players. We’ve got the worlds best goalies, full backs, centre half and midfielder.

Massive transfer outlay (Mendy for Kepa - Lukaku for a 3rd time to replace the goals Werner didn’t provide) isn’t a sign of strength. In these cases it is mistakes being corrected. We didn’t make those mistakes.

City never effectively replaced D. Silva or Aguero and are now paying way over the odds for Grealish (a downgrade on Silva) and on Kane a brilliant but injury prone 28 year old.

It sells papers and is titillating, but it’s awful business practice. They are not however leaving us behind. They are trying to catch the 18 point gap to a full strength Liverpool. In the meantime we have replace Lovren with Ibou, Sturridge with Jota, Tsimikas with Milly at LB and Thiago for Gini. We have also added to the squad the dominated Europe and the PL Taki, Jones, Elliott, the Williams brothers and Phillips.

There is a lazy paradigm in clickbait football punditry that the more money you spend the stronger title challengers you are. Some people actually thought that United would be stronger challengers than Liverpool just because they've spent more money (which they do every year) . It's not about how much money you spend, it's about what you have in your squad.

Why0why, I wouldn't exactly say that City are chasing Liverpool as they're the league champions and already have a strong squad, but I agree with the essence of what you're saying.

I think people place way too much commodity in having a deeeep squad. It's good to have if you want to guarantee a league cup while you fight for the bigger trophies, but it's otherwise such an overrated requirement. City can have all the midfielders they like but at the end of the day they can only give so many of them consistent PL minutes.

Some people don't even understand what having a strong squad means, including Gary Neville. Some United fan said to me 'well yeah it is stronger, for example you have Alisson but then only Kelleher, but we have De Gea and the solid Henderson! And I said "yeah, but you're telling me you'd rather go into a campaign with De Gea/ beta Henderson than Alisson/ Kelleher"?
*Silence*. What people like him and Neville don't understand is that the first 11 is the most important part of the squad, it doesn't just pertain to back up options.

Agree9 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 17:49:01
I agree that we shouldn't spend just because everyone else is spending and strengthening. However, we need to do some risk assessments. On our day, we can beat just about anyone but when we find it hard to break down stubborn teams, we need to have impactful players from the bench that can turn the game around. Honestly, we were fortunate to finish 3rd after all the injuries we had last season. We need to be better prepared this time around. Having better players is one way to close the gap or gain an advantage. If everyone else is improving and you're standing still, then you're taking a gamble. Hopefully our gamble pays off this time.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 17:57:26
Hi Zedd I agree with what you are saying but not in its entirety, 1st 11s are very important but they can only take so far with the amount of injuries that teams suffer during a season. Let's take a look at som examples looking at teams that had strong starting 11s and benches not to the same level. Liverpool 20/ 21 with 1 quality bench CB injuries to all 3 disrupted their season. 19/ 20 Man City having stones and Laporte with the bench not having similar quality that gave Liverpool an added edge from a team coming from 100 point + 98 point season to win the PL. Tottenham under Poxgettink could only pull so far under Pochettino because they ony had starting 11, Leicester the season the whole league too tier teams chocked and they powered there way to the title they only had a starting 11 and were very fortunate that none of their key players was injured.
Starting 11s are important but they can only take you so far and if your soley relying on 11 players you are really riding your luck and only takes 1 good injury to derail a season.

Cognitive dissonance must be a real issue for some people.

DAPred - one our day we beat everyone. Whether they put 10 men on the line or dig a moat. The reason we didn’t have many days last year is at every point we’re rocked by the highest amount of injuries any Premier League side has ever had. That is a fact. Prior to the cavalcade of injuries we were sitting at the top of the league.

LiverChiefRSA this board amazes me, I can’t count the amount of times I’ve read that player x wouldn’t come to us because he wouldn’t get in the first XI…. and then the same people say “well we need more players” the inconsistency is maddening. As to our first XI go and have a look at how many times we’ve used only XI players in a season. I can save you some time, we haven’t. We have a squad. We have a happy balanced squad. We have great goalie cover. We have great full back cover. Great centre back cover (exceptional actually) . Great 6 and 8 cover and we now have excellent cover across the front three?

I don’t know which Liverpool side some people have been watching but in my universe when our players weren’t constantly either injured or returning from injury (or C.V.) we won everything. It’s weird how in other peoples universes Liverpool have any weak squad that can’t break down teams.

They aren’t getting better, barring a massively catastrophic injury run we are trending up.

If we wouldn’t have lost Virgil and Fabinho last season we’d have won the league. We lost Trent, Virg, Gomez, Matip, Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson, Jota and Alisson for large chunks of the year. And we had people struggling to get over C.V..

Liverpool spent massive money on Van Dijk and Alisson and went on to win the league and champions league. Not sure why people are trying to force the point that you don't need to spend. Spending massive amounts of money works, whether that sits well with people or not.

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 19:59:49
Only if it is spent wisely. We bought Becker for a world record at the time Chelsea bought a keeper (I won't even try to spell his name) for a world record but can't get on the pitch and had to spend a further largish sum for Mende. We bought VVD for a world record, the mancs decided to spend a world record on Maguire who would probably 4th or 5th choice for LFC.

SG84eva, Liverpool spent large sums on Alisson and VVD because they fixed glaring holes in the squad. Spending a lot of money works if you need to spend it and if you spend it properly. Liverpool don't need to break the bank at the moment to win the league because they already have plenty of blue chip players.

WhyOwhy, whereas we have plenty of cover at number 8, we don’t have great cover at number 6 (the midfield anchor), as we only have Henderson and Fabinho who can effectively cover that position (Milner is terrible there and Thiago is not a defensive midfielder at all) .

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 11:51:59
Thiago played six for the last three years at Bayern. There is a misrepresentation of what he does. He’s more of a six (in a double pivot) than he is an 8.

Think Pirlo not Fabinho.

There is a point however when we have to realistically stop thinking “what if all the players we have all get injured”. With a squad there is a law of diminishing returns. Too many players breeds unhappiness in the squad. Any observer can see we have a brilliantly motivated and happy team.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 11:52:06
Why0Why, that whole “we can’t break teams down” is a pathetic trope and has no basis in reality. Why? Do you know how many buses you have to damage to amass a massive 265 points (HIGHEST in the PL for the past 4 seasons level with City) and win all the trophies we have won? Again, a trope.

Also, all teams struggle with lowblocks and Utd actually are worse at it than we are BUT you will never hear that in the media. City struggled with it over the years and just did vs Spurs this season BUT who wants to talk about that? Utd DREW 10 games last season YET we are the only team that struggle with lowblocks? Absolute tosh.

Another notion that we are standing still if we don’t sign anyone has also been debunked by… Liverpool under Klopp. The year after we won the CL and got 97 points, did we make any big signings? If the answer is NO and we still annihilated the league with virtually getting 100 points, how was that standing still? Again, another trope.

Furthermore, I fully agree with you regarding your comparison btw our spending and those if our rivals. City have to spend on Dias cos they got Laporte and Stones wrong to some extent. Same with Chelsea regarding Kepa and Mendy or Lukaku and Werner. These are costly mistakes being corrected. We can’t afford to make such dire mistakes so we have to box smart. Your posts are brilliant so pls, keep posting. Peace!

Would rather give that game time to Elliott and Jones than bring in Coutinho. Ideal world would see Bissouma or Saul come in but between the transfer fee of one and the wages of the other, the chances are looking slim.

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 18:13:53
I don't mind pipco and I guess he would be taking a hefty wage cut to come. I don't think he would be daft enough to think he could command the same wages he is on.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 18:38:47
Thing is Irish, whatever he’s paid it would be a waste of a salary and a non home grown place. We’d have to almost entirely change the way we play to accommodate a player who quite honestly isn’t all that. Where do you play him, certainly not midfield, he couldn’t knock the skin off a rice pudding much less press anyone, you couldn’t play him up top as he’s too slow, he definitely isn’t number nine material and we don’t play with a “classic number 10”. He’s been ineffective for the last year at Barca, plus age and injury doesn’t mprove players…signing him would be sentimental nonsense.

I understand totally why people don't want Coutinho, he acted disgracefully! but this selective memory that he was anything but a huge danger for us and one of our best players is crazy. On a loan, on terms that suit US, i'd take him.

Agree3 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 19:37:44
Jadon, that was over three years ago. He’s past his sell by date now. All we’d be getting is an over the hill injury prone has been on £150000 a week for the privilege. Even then, where does he fit in? He certainly doesn’t fit into our current system and it would be stupid to change something for a player who isn’t even world class.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 20:12:32
Younger than Bobby and same age as Sadio, who as much as i love them have both struggled for form for maybe 18 months now. would you say they are over the hill has beens?

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 20:44:35
If they were playing elsewhere and being offered to us, yes I would say over the hill and avoid, as I would for any player 29 or over and hadn’t been in good form for some time.

There’s no mileage in signing players at 29/ 30 unless they are bonafide world class and still in very good form. In Pipco’s specific case, he’s neither, he’s been rubbish for the last three years, it also doesn’t help that he literally doesn’t fit in anywhere to our current system. Notwithstanding the fact he’s a rat and the only beneficiary of the transaction would be Barcelona.

If we end up wasting money on pipco and Saul Niguez ends up at either United or Chelsea that would be a huge self own.

I also think bringing in a central midfielder will limit Jones and elliots playing time more than bringing in Coutinho. Couts plays either central attack mid which we don’t cater for or left side. Jones and Elliot seem to be being readied to take over the box to box roles in the central mid roles going forward. I do wish Klopp would play Elliot on the left and Jones on the right though. Same for Keita playing on the right side. He always looks better I feel playing that side.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Aug 2021 08:54:34

I wouldn’t be against taking him on loan to be honest to see how he performs and make a logical decision from there depending on how he performs. There’s no-one coming through in the attacking positions who he would block and would likely be more effective as a squad player than Origi or Taki if we are looking to offload those players. That said I wouldn’t be against either of those players being given more opportunities if we are not going to offload them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea have made a proposal to Atletico but it does not entirely satisfy their needs. Barcelona and Manchester United are both interested but Barcelona need to offer Griezmann and pay half his wages in exchange, or move on Coutinho to free up wages first. Manchester United have spoken with Atletico but it is unclear if they would be willing to satisfy the needs of Atletico - it will become clear soon.}

Ed002 is it true an English side has contacted PSG about Mbappe And they are becoming more open to selling him.
I know they have said they think it's Liverpool but could you see city looking at signing him might be an easier deal than Kane. And with reports Ronaldo can go for €28m PSG might like Messi Ronaldo and Naymar. You can tell there is only a week left Ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City have certainly considered Mbappe but I think it unlikely they will commit to the something like €200M transfer fee, huge signing on fee and huge wages. As I understand matters there has not been any offers just yet but an offer from Real Madrid will be made.

Ronaldo has been offered around with his agent being in England yesterday.}

24 Aug 2021 14:43:19
Yeah a few Spanish Journalists have said that Real Madrid are under the impression that the most significant interest along with themselves is from Liverpool.

I very much have my doubts, if we can't afford Bissouma then how on earth would we afford Mbappe. Pure guesswork.

24 Aug 2021 15:06:14
We have made no request to Mbappe's people or PSG. The only club in EPL to make contact was Man City as Ed002 has pointed out but it is funny watching our fans take the mickey out of ourselves on Twitter with hilarious quips about our interest. "Origi and a packet of crisps" apparently, or memes of Edwards being ejected from PSG offices, lol.

Mbappe will not cost €200m, since he only has 1 year left on his contract. Prob more like €100m.

I personally think Mbappe at liverpool is a very long shot, but not totally out of this world.

When players like him and Haaland are available, it just might have changed the club's stands on transfers.

If Liverpool are in the picture, i more think it is for the next summer transfer window, even though i think its much more likely we get Haaland there.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Haaland won’t be joining Liverpool and PSG would certainly not sell for €100M.}

24 Aug 2021 12:54:45
For Coutinho to return I'd wonder what his current condition is. assuming he won't be up to diving straight onto the pitch, then how long will it take him to get up to match fitness?

In general I don't actually mind the idea of him coming back. make the money work etc At the moment I think the only real area you could consider we have a gap is in the attacking third and someone like him, if we get a good deal, could be an exciting piece of business as the upside would be massive if he is motivated and Klopp can get the best out of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 13:03:56
If it is a loan with an option to buy instead of an obligation and low wages then it might be worth trying. But I don't understand why we want him after the way he acted to press his way out of the club. And he is not getting any younger either.

24 Aug 2021 14:03:06
I have mixed feelings about this, but leaning towards positive.

If we get him on a loan with reasonable wages, then I'm all for it.

There are definitely things he could have done better to leave the club, but I don't think he meant it with any spite and I think he was very poorly advised by people around him who had something to profit from his move to Barcelona. That doesn't absolve Coutinho of any responsibility, but it doesn't mean he's a bad character unfit for the dressing room either, he was well-liked in the squad and wouldn't create any disharmony.

I think he'd be a great option off the bench, he brings something completely different to the midfield and he's already created a chemistry with Salah and Mane before. He is a big confidence player and he needs to be in a supportive and comfortable environment to thrive.

He wouldn't be a starting player, so the limitations in his game don't bother me that much, he still has enough calibre to make a meaningful contribution.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 14:21:51

Is he an upgrade on Shaq?

Will Barcelona pay a chunk of his wages?

Can he offer something?

If all three are a yes, and two of them are, it’s a no brainer.

24 Aug 2021 14:54:08
PC would be a backward step for LFC. If he came then I think it'd be more about appeasing fans than a way to keep us moving forward. SN would have been ideal but it's almost certain he's going to Man Utd now.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 15:08:01
I doubt that Klopp would sign-off on it just to appease twitter fans.

He's not a backwards step, he's a talented player to add to the midfield depth. If we were looking to him as a solution to a midfield problem then it'd be different.

Agree1 Disagree0

24 Aug 2021 16:57:03
I loathe him. Don’t want him back, not to mention that he’s past it now, too weak and lightweight to play midfield and too slow to play on the wing, and we don’t play with a number 10. Waste of a salary. Let him rot at Barca. Their collective mistake not ours.

Suarez is one of the best players I’ve seen in a Liverpool shirt that’s why I’d have him back. Unlike El Sulk Torres, Suarez always gave a 100%. Coutinho? Why not… he scores goals from midfield which none of our midfielders do.

I have no idea why there is always a clamour for us to re-sign Coutinho. We’re a better team without him let’s be honest and his wages are probably higher than anyone else in our first team (? ) and I’m guessing he won’t want a pay cut at 29 years of age. Time for us all to move on.

First time posting, long time using the website.

I just wanted to say well done to all the Ed’s!

Ed002 information is bang on just saw Traore linked with spurs where as no other journo broke that news, Ed002 stated on the stated a while back spurs were linked!

One more thing Ed002, with the suprise (Coutinho) would that be this summer or more of a January transfer in?

Thanks again.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Typically clubs do not plan for January transfers. Coutinho is of interest to Klopp but his age and wages are outside of what the club would ideally be looking for - there will be awareness of the aging squad Liverpool has. Kia has tried unsuccessfully to get him in to Arsenal but that won't happen. Barcelona want his wages off the books and won't be seeking a significant fee for him. But after letting Messi move on they still need to make significant savings on their wage bill - hence so many players being available. They are still looking to add players so are now pushing the likes of Kia to find solutions for them.}

Ed’s first time question could I humbly ask your opinion on an issue raised 647 times already because in spite of all evidence to the contrary I still hold [[INSERT RANDOM PLAYER NAME]] very close to my heart.

So do you in all your wisdom have any words that will keep the embers of my dwindling torch still burning regarding [[INSERT RANDOM PLAYER NAME]] thanks for all you great work please just give me a tiny piece of hope.

I mean, not to sound desperate at all but even if you said the players name and acknowledged they existed it would somehow sate my desire.

Thanks.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The issue is money. Players like Bissouma are simply out of reach without significant sales. Sanches provided an option as he was available on spread out payment terms. Whilst Saul is available on a loan with an obligation to buy his wages are significant. Coutinho would need to halve his wages to move to Liverpool. Selling players has been difficult as the asking price has generally been unrealistic so the club has had to drop their demands. Klopp has been told he has to do better with the resources he has - and Liverpool do have some very talented youngsters.}

24 Aug 2021 11:45:56
