Eds, I've read your recent answers in regards to max Meyer and of course naby keita .

With Liverpool possibly finding naby unattainable, social media is speculating that Meyer could be the next target.

My understanding of naby was he'd provide cover to defence as well as attack. I have little or no knowledge of Meyer. would he be capable of this or is he another attack minded midfielder?

And is there any updates in regards to Meyer?

Regards in advance

Niall.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - No Niall. I would think the speculation would be that Max Meyer would make a good replacement for Coutinho.}

Sorry eds, musta misread it.

Thanks.

He's not half as good as Phil nor will he ever be.

U watch schalke a lot HX.

I see a lot of similar qualities to Couts in Manuel Lanzini actually. of course, not as good but he's a decent player who's adapted quite well to the EPL.

I really don't know much of Meyer but if coutinho was to leave would he be such a bad replacement?
Coutinho wasn't exactly setting the world alite in la liga or serie could Meyer not have a similar impact?

Agree0 Disagree3

25 Jul 2017 03:54:48
HX none of us thought Phil would be as good as he is now when he first signed for us. So let's not assume Meyer cannot get to that level or be a player who can contribute successfully to the team.

Max Meyer 100% has the talent to equal couts. My issue is that he is about 4 years away from getting there so would weaken us considerably in the short term.

Not in a million years, 87. I've seen Max Meyer play for Schalke, the German Olympic team last summer (along with Brandt and Sule) and with the U-21's this summer. He is not fit to shine Couts' left boot except he ups his game seriously which we do not have the time for. The Couts of four years ago was already better than the Meyer of today. He is talented but a Couts, he is not.

Don't know much about Meyer admittedly but when inter sold Phil for 8 mil they could not have known he'd become one of world's best. My point is we simply don't know how quick, well someone will develop. I don't want us to stand in Phil way but I'd like him to choose us. Getting a little fed up. We scout fantastically and find these rough diamonds. Turn them into proper world class players and just when they start to peak we go give em to Barcelona or real madrid. Basically we do all the hard work and Barcelona get all the benefit from it. We get some cash, scout another promising player, build him up to a world beater and just when we're thinking of challenging for league we go sell em. I don't know how we do it but we need to make players realise we are one of the worlds biggest clubs.

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Liverpool
Juventus
Bayern Munich (maybe)

@Superred91 We do all the hard work? Really? Southampton rings a bell mate?
Who besides Sterling did we lose to a big club recently? Suarez? Not home grown. Even Sterling was brought in from QPR at the age on 16! Am I missing someone? Since Macca and Owen, who?

25 Jul 2017 15:32:15
Funny that. In that case, Southampton do all the hard work and Liverpool reaps all the rewards! That's how football works.

Hi eds, with keita looking unlikely could Leon goretzka be an option now?

Believable8 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Leon Goretzka was of interest to Southampton but Schalke said they had intention of selling in the short-term but he has been reluctant to listen to offers of a new contract and they are now willing to listen to offers. Juventus are struggling to get their first choice option in midfield for this summer and are thought that they may be returning to Leon Goretzka - but have not made approaches to his club or agent. Arsenal might well look to him if they cannot get their preferred target. Spurs, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also looking to Goretzka as a possible option. If Liverpool are unable to sign their first choice it is possible that they could also look to Goretzka.}

24 Jul 2017 10:45:28
Lets hope so as he is a young physical specimen which we need in the center of the park. At 6'2" he won't be bullied there. Technically gifted box to box player scoring 8 goals from there last season. A cheaper option to Keita. All Klopp needs to do is now make this happen and walk away from VVD and move for Tah instead. It would free up more funds for maybe a world class goalkeeper?

Agree4 Disagree26

24 Jul 2017 11:04:51
Tah had a really bad season mate, not sure he is the answer.

Agree11 Disagree1

24 Jul 2017 11:17:31
I would gladly take Tah and Leno of Leverkusen hands I believe they would be a big improvement on two problematic areas we clearly have after yet another season of not addressing the problems last season. Both would cost less than the price being mentioned for VVD. I'm not convinced VVD is the right person for us. His concentration wonders most games. At least in Tah we would have a young strong tall defender with a lot of promise who is highly regarded in his homeland. To be capped for Germany at 21 should say it all. I feel he will compliment Matip well.

Agree2 Disagree9

24 Jul 2017 11:22:13
Turning our back on vvd would be pretty nasty at this point I feel. I wonder who's idea it was that he should tell Southampton he won't play for them? Agent? Someone at pool? We need to stick to this one.

Agree4 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has publicly withdrawn all interest in the player. They have not withdrawn that statement.}

24 Jul 2017 12:24:41
At 70m he should be the worlds best in his position but he's not even close to being the best in the division. He doesn't offer anywhere near value for money. Southampton obviously put a residuals price tag on him to scare away the wolves circling around. But for some mad reason Liverpool took the bait. Back away maybe with your tail between your legs but 70m in the bank is the best result. If it goes through at 70m other teams will be rubbing there hands at the opportunity of getting many more millions out of us than the players are worth. It set the benchmark for others to deal wit us.

What is the obsession with getting another MF player, yes I would have liked to get keita but we have plenty of youngsters who can shine instead, grujic should be pushing for a start IMO.

24 Jul 2017 13:28:33
Eds, is Juve's 1st choice Can? Or completely unrelated?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No it wasn't, but others are not available and they are going down their list.}

24 Jul 2017 13:45:06
Am I the only fan who can't see the value of Grujic just yet, at the moment he reminds me very much of a Jonjo Shelvey type player, has some vision but can't tackle, isn't the quickest and his positional sense isn't great.
I know he's still young but I think he's far from being a reliable first team player for a while, if at all.

24 Jul 2017 14:41:51
I like Goretzka. Very good player with a bright future.

However, would he be an improvement on Emre? I'm not sure.

Would he provide a skill set we don't already have in midfield? Again, I'm not sure. Keita is very fast and would add a lot of energy and ability to the middle.

Goretzka I think is too similar to what we have in terms of style.

Agree4 Disagree1

24 Jul 2017 14:42:03
I agree Trevor, not the finished article but for league cup, etc, can prove himself. Shows enough to be hopeful of first team in the future though. Looks cleverer than JJ.

Agree2 Disagree1

24 Jul 2017 14:44:04
So Treverpool you have basically watched him in 2-3 games, give him a bloody chance man. I for one hope he gets the game time he needs he will surprise a few.

I've not based my opinion of Grujic on these pre season games however the pre season games have confirmed to me that at the moment he's over hyped by some fans which isn't really fair on the lad.

Agree3 Disagree1

24 Jul 2017 15:20:43
Leon goretzka is better than emre can and grujic together.

24 Jul 2017 17:46:58
Grujic might turn out to be just OK, or could turn out to be our version of Dele Alli - we won't know until we play him. I think he deserves a chance to prove himself on rotation or in cup games, and while we have Hendo, Can, Wiji, Llalana and Coutinho in midfield, we have enough cover if he doesn't quite make the step up this season.

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Jul 2017 18:34:07
For me grujic is more of a goal threat than our other cm at the moment, he has shown great attacking position in the few minutes he's played so far, very promising player just hope he gets a consistent run of games to prove it.

Agree4 Disagree0

24 Jul 2017 22:28:28
Trevor you don't want to put pressure on him but you don't want to compare him with Shelvey either. He's nothing like him at all. Shelvey was all ill disciplined aggression and attempted Hollywood passes. For me Grujic has shown much more game intelligence already.

So Ed001 who would you like Klopp to bring in as a realistic fantasy football type scenario?

Which CB would you like to see in Liverpool's starting line up?

Which CM would you like to see?

And which forward would you like to see if any at all?

Personally I also feel the GK position needs attending to so let's throw that one in as well?

Please give reasons why you have picked the players you have and feel free to add any other positions you feel need strengthening .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I really don't have the time nor inclination to get into fantasy football chat at the moment sorry.}

25 Jul 2017 13:53:03
I think it's pretty clear that van dyke could become best cb in the world. Better than stones easy. Good solid header of the ball while stones is doing a cruff turn in the six yard box van dyke clears with a strong pass straight into feet of midfield. Really hope we get him. For our sake and for his. Feel sorry for him, he should have been playing in Asia cup for us instead of being frozen out of s'Hampton.
