Oh and another thing I've seen going around today - Rodgers has met with Atletico Madrid officials discussing a possible deal for Spanish starlet Saul Niguez. Saul is 19 and generally plays as a defensive midfielder, however he is versatile and can play centre half or a more attacking midfield role too. He is currently on-loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano but Rodgers hopes he can strike a deal for the teen in this window and bring him to Anfield. Hopefully an exciting 6 days ahead! YNWA

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers has been in Bournemouth today. See previous answers.}

BR has been saying we wants player/s who will get straight into the team
I think we have enough "for the future"

Regarding the new sponsorship deal to be announced on the 27th of this month - Players in the pre-match warm-up in the 4th round tie away at Bournemouth wore "OneGuardianSaid" jumpers and tees. This is an anagram for Garuda Indonesia, the country's main Airline. Back in 2012, Liverpool agreed a multi-million pound deal with this particular company, and I believe this deal could involve sponsorship of Anfield. With the new sponsorships being announced at this time of the year, Liverpool fans like myself can only hope this could add money to our currently strained transfer budget, and aid us in a late push in the transfer window to sign some quality players! Now let's go clinch this 4th spot! C'mon the reds! YNWA

{Ed002's Note - Cool - I like this.}

Garuda is broke - almost bankrupt. I hope they don't get involved with us-! you're looking at another hicks/gillette

Agree1 Disagree1

I did try and clarify what the shirts meant so cheers 4 this. I flew with Garuda it he late 90's to Bali, shocking at the time and I'm sure they nearly got struck off at 1 point for safety issues. Let's hope they are a cash cow now ready to inject into LFC

If all that's Correct you should get your own
Columbo style tv show!
Brilliant work

I'm all for selling naming rights to the stadium, there isn't any point being precious about it, Anfield is a world renowned stadium and it's a big revenue stream that's too good to ignore. If it helps us compete, it's got to be a good thing.

Agree2 Disagree2

I do not believe this deal would involve completely renaming Anfield, more so "Anfield - sponsored by Garuda Indonesia" if you know what I mean. and to RAT, Sorry I have no knowledge of the company's financial status, we can only hope it brings more money into the club because in this day and age, any money coming into the club is a good thing. We need to compete with the City's and the Chelsea's and we need as much financial backing as we can in order to do so. We can only hope this is beneficial to our club! YNWA

Rat you should at least have a look at a firm's financials before spouting off!

Garuda Indonesia had a shocking safety record in the past and were banned from flying into the UK. I really don't care about Dunkin Doughnuts, Vauxhall Motors or low quality airlines being associated with our great club. We should be looking at bringing in top quality to the starting eleven instead - we made hard work of Bournemouth!

Agree0 Disagree0

Finally a post where I can use my expertise.

Garuda have a shocking safety record and were on their knees a few years ago, but since then there has been some serious investment to keep them afloat. There has been no hard evidence of where the money has come from but sources say that the government and the Chinese are massively propping them up. Now all this sounds a bit dodgy but there is good news for Liverpool.

Indonesia's economy has been growing exponentially recently, and all the signs point to huge growth over the next 15-20 years, easily outstripping that of Brazil/Russia/India/China of the last 20 years. Yes the size might not be comparable but the growth will be huge.

If we look at the national airlines of those countries they have experienced huge growth and giant profits over the past 10 years, all of them started with huge safety concerns and are now floating on oceans of money.

Indonesia really is the place for investment right now (together with, Mexico, Nigeria and Turkey) so any form of deal with a large player in the Indonesian economy can only be good for Liverpool, this stuff really does seem to be Ian Ayre's bread and butter.

I doubt we will see huge gain from this over the next 6-12 months, but this could be really really big for the future of the club. The equivalent of having someone like RedBull behind us.

Anyway, it's not all doom and gloom guys, just be patient with the money stuff. FSG and particularly Ayre are doing incredibly good work here, with the state of the clubs finances before hand, it's like trying to turn a super tanker, really hard to get it going in the right direction but once it is, very hard to stop.

If only Ayre could keep his nose out of transfer dealings that would be lovely.

This really could be the Red Dawn guys, don't be too disheartened about missing out on a few players, these owners are trying to turn our club into an economical powerhouse, without a Sheikh or Oligarch, and if they do that, they will have my loyalty. and my wife if they want.

Evening Eds

Gokhan Inler? Ay truth in the links with us or a non starter?

Believable9 Unbelievable18

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Hhhmmmmm I see Eds, house the Vino going down this fine evening? Surely you can find out if there is anything in it. Please?

{Ed002's Note - I will ask someone tomorrow who would know - if I have time.}

Evening all. We're supposed to move in for Inler from Napoli and Shaquiri from B.Munich. Hope we don't take ages over it.

Believable20 Unbelievable43

A bit hard to believe, but I would be ecstatic if we got Shaqiri.

Ed2 these comments from Rodgers about salah are kinda odd no? What does he mean we're not giving up in him? And if we're not then what are they waiting for? Twice now in a couple days he's said this, so obviously the club have some sort of plan?

Believable10 Unbelievable13

{Ed002's Note - You would think so wouldn't you. Maybe he is giving a boost to the fans? Or maybe he is just screwing with the fans? Or perhaps he is trying to out-psych Mourinho? Or perhaps he is just confused? Perhaps nobody told him about the medical yesterday evening?}

25 Jan 2014 20:37:02
The reason the deal is on hold is because Salah wants to talk to us, FACT.

Mourinho has said nothing is signed and he could still sign for us, Rodgers has said the same thing and the fact the deal is not signed, sealed and delivered points to something else happening behind the scenes.

Agree2 Disagree3

Thanks for the reply, it does strike me as rather odd. though I do recall willian passing his Tottenham medical before joining Chelsea.

Mohamed Salah has now passed his Chelsea medical last night, which he underwent in Paris. Salah will complete the signing 'within the coming hours', signing a five and a half year deal with the London club.
Salah has not yet been granted a work permit but it will be a formality as he's taken part in 100% of Egypt's competitive fixtures over the past two years. He'll qualify as a U21 player for the sake of the FA roster this season, and will not be eligible to play for Chelsea in the Champions League.
It sounds as if we might be able to expect an announcement from the club tonight, though some minor delays in the paperwork the push the announcement to Sunday or Monday

Hey Eds,
New reports linking us with Xherdan Shaqiri. Is this just recycled media bs or have we shown genuine interest of late seeing as we just missed out on Salah?
Also, how likely do you think a deal would be (if a reasonable sum was offered). Thanks.

Believable18 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Shaqiri will certainly be available in the summer as a replacement (Rode) has already been signed up - but I am not so sure they will be looking to sell now - and he would not come cheap.}

Shaquiri would be good business for the club, but I think would be quite expensive, maybe in excess of £15m
which I don't believe the club have in this window.
Love it if he came though.

Ed 002, I may be wrong but I think recall you saying a week or 2 ago we wanted M'vila on loan but our offer was rejected - do you see us moving for him permanently in the remainder of the window?

Cheers pal

Believable4 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool had an interest in M'Vila, but in a loan to buy with only a tiny amount proposed to be paid now - that was never going to be acceptable. However, there is nothing more than that as far as Liverpool are concerned. There have been negotiations with two other clubs, Napoli - but they have taken steps to cover themselves as they consider getting the transaction completed not going to be easy. Secondly PSG, who are maintaining an interest in case Matuidi does move on.}

Cheers Ed.

any chance or news on lavezzi? I doubt it but would be great!

Believable9 Unbelievable13

{Ed002's Note - There has been no interest from Liverpool.}

He's 28, over £20m little and has or no resale value, do the maths. Just lazy journalism. Besides we don't exactly want for strikers at the moment.

Hi Ed02,
A non Liverpool related subject as I realise we have no interest in this player. But what is the likely future for konoplyanka. I read a while back his contract was running down. On wickepedia it states his current club as PSG and Dnipro. Has he signed a pre-contract with PSG?

Thanks in advance.

Believable8 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - Sadly your source is not that reliable. Konoplyanka has a long-term contract with Dnipro but there is interest in him from a number of clubs including Zenit, PSG, Dynamo, Benfica, Spartak Moscow and Galatasaray. He was subject to two significant offers this past summer - from Galatasaray and Zenit - both of which were been turned down. I expected to see Arsenal follow up interest and make a bid in January but that has not happened. If it looks like he will be available interest from England and Germany from Spurs, Manchester United, Schalke and Dortmund would not be a surprise.}

Is Alexi Sanchez available Ed?

Believable8 Unbelievable34

{Ed001's Note - possibly, but he isn't keen on a move away.}

To be fair he's a little out of our league, he's worth at least 20m

{Ed001's Note - I meant he is not keen on a move anywhere.}
