As the rage from yesterday is finally starting to subside, wanted to thank everyone associated with the site As its been a joy to read and learn so much stuff to do with liverpool and football in general.
A quick question for ed002, as a non-liverpool fan what's your opinion on the whole sterling saga? Stay or go? Depending on who is the manager?
Cheers lads bring on next year andbwe go again

{Ed002's Note - With the other issues I suspect that the club are getting pretty sick of him at this time. Typically clubs don't like this sort of thing happening and they certainly don't like it happening in the public domain - sadly Rodgers is happy to air all of the in house issues with anyone who will listen. His agent and another representative have been trying to gauge interest from other clubs. Regardless, it needs resolving this summer. He is toxic and I would get him out as fast as possible.}

Well said Ed.

Well i agree its been handled very badly by almost all concerned. Just wondering ed with sterling if he has caused other problems within the camp other than his ridiculous contract "negotiations"?

Thanks for the reply ed

Ed002 why are you so down on Rodgers? Everyone on here seems to be extremely harsh on a guy who is in his first big job, managing big players and egos. That was the owners choice who to manage us, so we should back him on all mediums, shouldn't we.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The question was about Sterling.}

25 May 2015 22:12:42
Do you think a change of manager would change sterlings thoughts or is he a goner?
Would klopp change his thoughts on things?
Not saying it's Brenda's fault by the way!!

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the Manager.}

26 May 2015 09:50:04
There was a comment that Sterling would stay for a different manager but I do not know or care if that is so.Sell him for the right price and sign someone who is more interested in playing for LFC than his own ego.
Personally I think the sooner Rodgers is gone the better for the club. He has proved to be tactically inept this season and the team simply do not look like a team at all. His team selection has often been very suspect and he makes some ridiculous statements.
Sadly the strong rumour is that he stays.

Question to any of the eds please, is there any serious interest in benfica's Eduardo Salvio as Portuguese newspaper O Jogo are saying we are in talks with them, I have looked in the search engine but the info is from March, is there any change, thanks eds and thank you for all your great info you have given throughout the year

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - Benfica have made it clear that they will be willing to let Salvio leave if any club match the release clause that Portuguese clubs would need to pay. €60million is not insignificant. Zenit St Pete and Manchester United have both kept a watching brief but neither would want to get involved at the asking price. I am not aware of Liverpool having a spare €60M right now but if Sterling were to be sold Salvio might be a viable option. PSG are looking to do some horse trading for the player - but the issue surrounding FFP is still an issue.

25 May 2015 10:11:06
Not that Salvio isn't a good player, but I'd be massively disappointed if we spent a huge amount like that on another winger if sterling were sold. We have wingers already, and aside from further stifling the careers of Marko and Ibe, we are crying out for a decent striker and DM.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 May 2015 11:01:47
If sterling goes we've only got one good winger (ibe) and he's inexperienced. So we will defo need a top class winger.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 May 2015 11:28:58
well let him get that experience then. we NEED a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2015 11:45:50
I think if sterling goes we will need another winger, we need a top class midfielder to somehow replace Gerard's quality and a top striker, at the moment there is no leader we have hendo who has improved a lot but I don't see him as a leader

Just because we need a striker don't mean we don't need a winger! - you do know there are two wings left and right?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - isn't that why we bought Markovic?}

25 May 2015 12:55:40
If we got a good midfielder you could also play hendo on the right wing, think that was his position at sundeland

Agree0 Disagree2

25 May 2015 13:25:22
Markovic is terrible mate - I told people this before we bought him. don't know what the scouts saw in him.

Agree0 Disagree1

25 May 2015 13:32:38
Playing Hendo at right wing is pointless. He can deliver a ball from deep but he can't take a man on. Haha on the Markovic comment. Not to dismiss him yet but even though its his first season I've not seen anything to suggest he will explode into a fantastic player at any stage. Sincerely hope I'm wrong. We need a leader in every position, defense, midfield, and striker. We had Hyypia, Carra all screaming at you, Gerrard leading by example with the likes of alonso and masch, and look at Suarez, he would get in your face if you weren't making a move. We need more than talent and I really hate to use this word. but. we need character

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2015 14:24:24
Not sure about markovic it's a wait and see, the names you mention hypha, gerrard, Afonso etc, proper players they where if only we could only get back to that standard I would be a happy chappie

Ed you mention PSG and fair play rules but I've read something that suggests that UAFA are relaxing the rules. What are you thoughts on that? I tried the search function but couldn't find anything.

Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right now UEFA are trying to deflect a legal challenge and are looking to relax the investment that can be made – but are still aware that they need to deal with other issues, most notably the capping of television income and sponsorship. UEFA has spoken to a number of clubs but have generally not found them supportive – all three English sides spoken to are against the plans to relax the investment cap. However, UEFA has now turned to the association of European clubs and they are keen to have some input. They are traditionally ignored but they have been actively discussing this issue with UEFA. However, they are excluded from the discussions that UEFA and specific clubs have with each other – and it is that forum that will eventually settle on the more critical television revenue and commercial sponsorship caps. There will regardless be a relaxation this summer, but it may not be sustained without ratification – and that won’t happen anytime soon. None of this will be good for the English sides. The worry UEFA has is that the two potentially largest beneficiaries both play in the French league and they may be accused of favouritism.

There are existing sanctions still in place for a number of teams, including PSG.}

How is Markovic awful?? He is a young, rapid winger who has been forced to play as right wing back when he has been given half a sniff - all this in an unfamiliar, better quality league with a team low on confidence. This is hardly fair grounds to write him off after a single season. Also don't think the undue amount of stick given to him by the fans has helped either - the lad needs support, from both a manager who'll actually play him as an attacker, and from fans who just need to give the lad a break. Early days to be writing him off and, as we did outlay a significant sum, it is surely in everyone's interests to give him more time and see if he can't become a useful asset to the team. At the minute, under Rodgers titanic-like guidance, it's hard to really assess any of the younger players properly, especially when they've been played out of position or simply not at all.

Markovic looked a decent player before Rodgers got his hands on him. Salvio is a no no as I believe he needs knee surgery and will be out for 6/7 months and there is no guarantee he will return to his best after that.

26 May 2015 10:26:46
Hi all
We have an office in Lisbon and the guys there are mad Benfica fans
Cannot understand why Markovic is not getting more game time
Also Salvio was injured at the weekend and any transfer is likely to be off as early diagnosis shows he will need surgery to rectify

Agree0 Disagree0

26 May 2015 18:10:56
All notions of Salvio moving are moot as he is injured, requiring an operation (knee surgery) and will be out for upto 7 months.

After yesterdays horror show maybe some good news, it is being reported that the club is about to complete a deal for Benfica star Eduardo Salvio according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo. Apparently Benfica's president Luis Filipe Vieira and agent Jorge Mendes flying into England for talks.
Liverpool were named as a likely destination for Salvio and O Jogo reckon those talks have been going on.
The Argentine has a £40m buyout clause but Liverpool would get him for significantly less than that. O Jogo say in their Monday edition that Salvio's exit is 'a matter of days' away and that exit will be to Liverpool.
The Benfica player injured his knee in his club's game at the weekend but that's not thought to be serious. It will keep him out of the Portuguese League Cup final but an absence of three weeks is the stated lay-off and it shouldn't halt any transfer. A note of caution for Liverpool fans would be that the Portuguese press can get a little carried so could be jumping the gun, but they were first on Lazar Markovic to Liverpool so deserve credit for that.

Cheers for the info Slaphead. It may or may not happen and I don't know if he's good enough or not. Hopefully, we strengthen effectively this time round.

Good player, but 40 million is way too much, considering the injuries he's had. Maybe if they have halved that price.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 May 2015 12:02:20
£40 million is too much ?
We'll probably pay 50 then.
And then have the pleasure of watching him sit on the bench or toil at right back.
The club shouldn't sign anybody until they've sorted the manager situation out.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Just to clarify matters. Mendes has been in London and Manchester over the weekend and is now in Madrid dealing with two matters there.}

25 May 2015 15:25:57
As usual Ed002 is on the ball with the information that us mere mortals could only dream of.
Totally agree that 40 million is way to much, but we are being linked with quite a few at the moment.
This is a very important window and hope who ever is in charge gets it right.
Thanks for all the hard work Eds and looking forward to the next transfer window.

Hi Eds. I've given it a go on the search engine and I haven't found anything, so apologies is this has been asked/answered before.

Do you have any idea when Rodgers is flying out to Boston to meet with the owners, or whether in fact he is flying out at all? Just wondering when we can expect to start to hear some news regarding any changes and plans for next season.

Cheers for all the hard work you do and good luck for a chaotic summer!

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry. Not even sure if he is.}

25 May 2015 11:54:25
I'd seen (before the Stoke disaster) that it was scheduled for that it was June 1st, presumably for a meeting on the 2nd. But the source is unproven.

Just want to say thank you to all the Eds for all the hard work throughout the season, and in Chris Pratt style I would like to apologise in advance for all the ridiculous rumours including buzzwords such as "Sources", "My mate", "Airport" , "Just seen" and the general, "why/are we interested in???" questions that arise during the silly season, thanks again, adore the site and the banter
