Ed, with the exception of Can, are there any first team players you feel may be likely to leave?

I personally think we could build a great squad if we keep our best players, but they must be in the sights of other clubs too.

A keeper, full back and a player to push for a place in attack (in case of injury) and we should have a solid season next year.

{Ed001's Note - Lallana.}

Fair enough, I did hope he would come back strong. Not sure how much we could get for him at the . moment, or if he could get a good deal for himself until he proves fitness?

I think Lallana both doesn’t want to retire at Liverpool and also isn’t good enough for our starting 11, for the sake of both sides I think he should get an opportunity elsewhere.

Do you think its likely Ings will stay Ed? I hope he does, he's got a great attitude on the pitch and he's a decent player.

{Ed001's Note - it is up to him to decide what he does, so difficult to say.}

I really hope ings stays before the injurys he was doing very well, I hope after a summers rest he will come back strong and get plenty of minutes.
I hope Llanna stays too last season he was really good, this seasons been a write off for the feller.

Lallana was instrumental to us when Klopp arrived as he taught the team how to press and turnover the ball high up the field. He was like Firmino is to us now, in that he was the trigger and the high energy player that scared the life of out the opposition when they were in possession. Hats off to him for being a key figure in those early days and setting the tone.

As time has gone by though, and we’ve brought in players more suited to Klopp’s style of play (eg. Benteke and Sturridge out, Firmino, Salah and Mane in), Lallana has become less and less instrumental as the team itself has evolved, and every in the team now able to play that way.

While he’s still a great player, he’s not the catalyst he once was, and his one notable weakness (IMO his tendency to slow the game down when in possession) has meant others like Ox (brilliant at carrying the ball forward at pace) have probably overtaken him in the pecking order.

I’d happily have him in the side next year again as a backup to Ox, but if he leaves then fair play to him and wish him well. He’s been a great player for the club.

Disagree with you on Lallana, Walter. He was good last year, undoubtedly, but we've changed the way we play since then. Our play is faster and quicker and far more direct. His constant dithering, turning pirouettes and doodling about with the ball would take us backwards. His major plus was the efficient pressing and regaining the football. We have others now who do it just as well.

When did Lallana ever scare an opposition? I’m pretty sure the only person who is scared of Lallana is Michael Flatley.

Is Steven Gerrard likely to leave to become Rangers manager or is it just paper talk?

If they offer him the job, I am fairly sure he will take it.

He said recently that he is a "man in a hurry". Obviously suggesting he wants to be managing, not training kids.

It would be a smart move for him. Straight to a big club, but one without that much pressure.

Without that much pressure 😂😂😂😂😂.

He would be mental to take that job with the state that clubs in.

I would think its not too bad of a move tbh guaranteed top two every year and they have a great fanbase.

Wouldn't be the worst baptism.

Not a guaranteed top 2 at all. They are currently only 2nd on Goal difference, level on points with Aberdeen, and only 3 points ahead 4th place Hibernian.

They are one bad game away from not even making the Europa league qualifiers!

I live in Glasgow and work in newspapers and to be honest I don't he could pick a worse first job.

Rangers are close to a financial ruin again, the chairman is hardly ever in the country, and their are factions in the boardroom.

If you think our fans have high expectations, Rangers (and Celtic) fans believe they have a divine right to win every game.

The harsh reality for Rangers at the moment is that they are long way from competing with Celtic at the moment, who to be honest haven't really performed to their true level this year domestically, and have huge reserves to buy new players on the basis that they've not spent money for years as they haven't needed to.

The Rangers fans just don't see any of this, and any manager is just 3 bas results away from the sack due to the incredible pressure and influence they have over the media up here.

In summary, the club has no money to buy new players, a board that can't agree on anything, no real hope of catching Celtic who will just spend if there is any threat to their dominance, and the fans won't give him a chance to settle in.

Stay away Stevie G.

Finally the fans l.

Thanks for your insight on that issue. I had an idea that Rangers would not be a good first job, but I didn't realise it was that bad!

Glesgaered I agree with most of your comments there but let's be honest the spl is not a difficult league to win if you have the funding it's not like the EPL where 6 top teams are chasing for top place

Celtic are an embarrassment to scotland because they get humiliated in the champions league

When Rangers got promotion Celtic season tickets shot up by 20.000 from the previous year but yet Celtic fans claim there's no old firm anymore.

If Rangers is a mess, then if Gerrard fails there - no big deal. His reputation won't be damaged within the game. It's a no-lose situation.

He does have an advantage - the big time Charlies on the Rangers squad will certainly listen to him.

Pressure is being manager of Real, Bayern, Barcelona, Juventus, etc.

Footbal history is littered with great players who failed as managers: Maradona, Van Basten, Bobby Charlton, Souness, Shearer, Stoitchkov, Tony Adams, Matthaus, Gullit, Gascoigne, Ardiles, Ince and many, many others. There's no teflon for ex-players to ensure they'll always succeed as managers. Better for Gerrard to ensure he knows his stuff really well before moving on to the next logical step. Only he knows the answer to that question.

Tony Adams is still trying, I'm sure he is off to be Singapore's national manager!

bit harsh to say that Celtic have been an embarrassment in Europe, I do recall them beating Barcelona,
how would Rangers get on should they get a place in Europe,
Stevie G should give another season with the kids, I hope that he does stay with Liverpool .

It's a win win for SG.

If it goes Pete tong then he can blame the fact the club is completely Gaga and leave relatively unscathed and if he manages to get it right and have some success then he will come out smelling of roses

Liverpool then ( if that's his destination) he will have shown or will know either way if he's got the mentality and skills to manage at such a level. Rangers football wise are clearly not there but expectation wise and rivalry wise with Celtic is on a par if not more than the mancs.

I think it is fair to say that Rangers is in a bit of a mess at the moment and the Board, whilst stabilising the club, has made some mistakes and taken some gambles that have not paid off - the previous manager being an example. I think Rangers’ fans are split over the SG rumours although some (including myself) are warming to the idea.

David King made a statement before we were last hammered by Celtic that our new manager would effectively guarantee success which, whilst lofty, is no more than the fans expect. Consequently, there’s a fair amount of surprise that Gerrard appears to be front runner.

No one can dispute his stature as a player or his potential as a manager - but he has less managerial experience than Murty.

Many Rangers’ fans will recall the state the club was in when we signed Souness - also untried as a manager - although circumstances were very different then and he could attract a very high standard of player from England.

Gerrard would command instant respect, would be able to attract players that we cannot currently attract, would be given funds for players (although not sure where they would be coming from) and would undoubtedly ensure the season tickets get sold. (I suspect we are keen to get it announced early next week to deflect from Celtic’s probable league title winning victory over us on Sunday) . He would be an absolutely fabulous appointment from that perspective. We just don’t know if he could get us competing with Celtic - and if you are not number 1 in Glasgow - your credibility is shot. To say there is no pressure managing Rangers is incredibly naive. The pressure is enormous albeit very different pressure from managing some of the elite teams.

I don’t accept that Rangers are miles behind Celtic. When they beat us 2-3 at Ibrox, we played well and Celtic didn’t. When they beat us 4-0, they played well and we were abysmal- the worst performance I’ve seen against them in my lifetime. Rangers is a sleeping giant.

If, and I still say if, Rangers can attract SG to Ibrox and if he can stop Celtic’s dominance - he will be worshipped by one half of Glasgow. It’s a big gamble for both parties but if it pays off the results will be spectacular. If we can have Mo on loan for a season too that would be nice thanks.
