Hey all, a lot being made of the Werner transfer and obviously we won’t know if it’s for real or not unless it actually happens but I’m curious on where he would fit into our 11 if he did sign or if it would likely mean a change to our formation that’s been so successful for us recently. Or possibly someone else heading out the door to make room?

Either a change in formation for certain games or more rotation up top without a drop in quality. If anyone from our forwards is making way, it will be the likes of Origi and Shaq.

Can see Shaquiri, Wilson and Origi leaving personally. Think Werner will join and he along with Minamino and the usual 3 up top gives us good options and leaves some chances for Elliott to get some games.

If Werner does join us, one of Salah, Mane or Firmino is going.

I don’t think any of the front 3 would leave if Werner joins. The front 3 play more or less every game and if they get taken off they get taken off late. That tells me Klopp doesn’t fully trust the reserve forwards. African Nations is still planned for next season so we lose Mo and Sadio to that. Our midfield 3 rotate around quite nicely with very little difference in their output. Imagine having 4 quality Forwards vying for those 3 positions.

I don't think Werner will join us just to be a back up player.

RHLT I don't see that happening, Werner looks nailed on, been going on far to long this now. Shaquiri I think is gone as he wants more game time. Would not be surprised to see Origi go had a good season last season but has not pushed on this season and not done really anything this season when had his chances. Wilson might stay to fill the squad places and help with homegrown.

We can easily sign Werner without sacrificing any of our front three. we will offset most of his fee by selling the fringe attacking players. For the price he'll be a very good signing.

Only way Werner plays on a regular basis is if Firmino is pushed back as a attacking midfielder.

We need Werner now because our front 3 aren’t getting any younger and with African nations coming up Mane and salah gone we need bodies up top origi not done it this year.

I really don’t see any of the current front 3 moving at this time RHLT.
More that Werner allows high class rotation or we can go 4-2-3-1 for instance with, say, Henderson and Fabinho sitting and Bobby withdrawn back to the advanced tip of the midfield and Werner up top. They could even interchange at times.
Two things Klopp is doing with the squad -
1. Strength in-depth and better selection choices
2. Tactical flexibility. 4-3-3 may be the stock selection still, but tweaks in-game and changes for certain opponents is becoming more of a theme.
I think Werner fits into both of the above scenarios.
I hope it happens.

I meant to say 4-2-1-3 but 4-2-3-1 works too lol.
Which sort of proves the point.

It's called rotation. And it has generally taken most of Klopps signings 3-6 months to adapt and get a decent run of games, so i would expect the same with Werner.

Hi Eds,
Is there any truth in Liverpool approaching Zakaria's reps over a potential transfer?
If yes, is it directly related to Wijnaldum's contract situation?
Also do you think the likes of Lovren, Phillips, Grujic, Ejaria, Kane, Ojo, Wilson and Shaqiri will leave this year?
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I will try an find out but Zakaria would be a direct replacement for Fabinho.

I had expected Lovren to leave with interest in a CB but money is a problem for the club so we need to see what will happen.
Nathaniel Phillips (CB) if Liverpool add Diego Carlos or another CB then time may have come for Phillips - Stuttgart would like to keep him on loan and may be open to buying him at the right price.
Marko Grujic (CM) Liverpool may opt to take a good profit and run - no guarantee of a work permit or place in the team - and critically not HG - but he wants a chance.
Ovie Ejaria (CM) expected to join Reading in the summer.
Harry Wilson (RW) Minamino likely ends his Liverpool career.
Xherdan Shaqiri (AM/RW) wants more game time and if he leaves it opens the door for HG player to ease an issue the club has.
The situation with Ojo is unclear to me.}
