Hey ed I always see on this site that Adam Johnson will become available but when he does will we actually have an interest in the player or is it more wishful thinking ? Cheers and great job ! {Ed002's Note - Well, perhaps there is a little more interest than availability. He is a decent player that should he become available Liverpool will be close to the front of the queue. But he will only become available when a replacement is found. So we wait.}

So, ed is it like we are targeting de jong and johnson as replacements for maxi and kuyt whenever they leave. Thanks

Abhi {Ed001's Note - not really, De Jong is being targeted as a replacement, Johnson is just of interest but not targeted as he is not available as it stands. If he became available it would change of course.}

Sorry ed, But my confusion is Are we going to buy one of de jong and johnson or both depending on their availability like, one may be on winter and the other on summer.
Thanks
Abhi {Ed001's Note - it is October, far too soon to say, we are likely to bid for De Jong, but Johnson would only be moved for if he became available ie if City get a replacement.}

Thanks for the reply ed, I hope city find a replacement and we buy johnson too, because de jong and johnson together could make our squad a lot stronger and better especially when we lose kuyt and maxi. Even if johnson is not available i hope we go for another player who is of equal standard.

Abhi

Hi Ed's,

Will Marco Bueno be signing in March when he is 18 years old?

LCA {Ed001's Note - unless something has changed since he signed his pre-contract, yes he will be signing as soon as he is 18.}

How much we pay for him ed? {Ed001's Note - no idea, sorry.}

hey i heard that we are going to sell martin skrtl this january is that posible?

Hope so..

maka

Why,?? i dont hope so. he is never injured, i think he is a good backup CB. but i think we need another instead of carragher, he is old,slow and make a lot of mistakes.

Certainly possible, not probable though, unless, i suppose, we buy a new center half in january.
davethebutcher

Unless you are deaf, yes it is entirely possible.

Hi eds who is the most likely target in january? Is it most likely Luuk De Jong and a CB {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to say "most likely" I am afraid. There is interest in De Jong.}

^^ Oh no, not again. How many times has the Ed got to answer this same tired old question?

There's probably interest in about 30+ players at the moment nothing will be narrowed down till late December i.e. in 60 days time so may aswell not get too excited about any rumour till then.

If we ha to sign a CB i hope its lovren, him and coates will be the best CBs in two years.

I don't want to start an anti-Reina campaign by all the ultra-fickle 'supporters' who call for KK'd head as soon as we drop two points, but I wonder if we could have a rational discussion about whether Reina is as good as everyone says he is.

All keepers make mistakes, of course, but personally I thought he messed up in not getting a hand to the ball against Norwich, and I think he should take a the majority of the responsibility for the goal.

He hoofs the ball at times when he has options to pass it out of defence, and when we are under pressure it ends up coming straight back.

I still think he is one of the best keepers in the prem, but I'd be interested in people's views about whether he has areas for improvement in his game?

You say Reina hoofs? FLMAO. He is one of the best keepers I have seen with the ball at his feet.

Totally agree that Reina should have got a hand to it, but his defence should have picked up Holt and then it wouldn't have been a problem.

Can't believe you said he "hoofs" the ball. I think he's the goalkeeper with the most assists in the premiership. He does try to pass it out to his defence and I believe in the past that a certain defender prefers him to "hoof" the ball up field when Carroll is playing.

Reina is one of the top 3 goalkeepers in the Premiership and probably in the world top 10. Every goalkeeper makes mistakes but so do our defenders!!

Yeah he should have got the ball but even if he'd have stayed in the net no one was saving that, great goal

But are we forgetting literally minutes later when again holt got in with a free header only for pepe to make a brilliant save
He IS the best goalkeeper in the league without a doubt, the defence on the other hand is poor. Other than Enrique we have not put two good games in a row together defensively

Reina is the best keeper in the premiership, how can you say he just hoofs the ball upfield his distribution is brilliant, the problem is with the defence not the keeper.

Hey, every village needs an idiot. Don't worry, i'm sure the anti Reina kid will find his way home

It was pepe's fault no doubts at all, it was like a david james effort, you cant hope the player misses it, he should of attacked the ball and flattened the player, like he flattened our two defenders,bob paisleys skids

It is the defense that is the issue not Pepe!!!!
LeeWils

What I was saying is is he hoofs it sometimes, not all the time. When he aims at a player he has decent completion rate, hence all the assists. And his shot stopping ability is beyond doubt.

But I've seen him maybe half a dozen times each game, when he's being closed down, hoofing it past the half way line when there is a defender available to him.

A hell of a lot of keepers take that option and most do it more than Pepe does, but I do think he doesn't take the passing option as often as he could do, when he's under a bit of pressure.

Just watch him tonight, and then decide.

Reina is the last man in defence all the time. If he makes an error of judgment it always looks worse than any other player. It is true that he has a tendency to hoof the ball at moments when a simple pass might be more effective, the best example of that is the pre-season match against Valerenga when in stoppage time he ignored Wisdom (?) on the right and hoofed a ball down the middle only to pick it out of his net seconds later. Yet, on the upside he creates more opportunities for his forwards than anyone else on the team. Overall, who is better than Reina in the prem? Peronally, I don't know.

Canadian Fan

Pepe is the best with his feet of any goalkeeper I have probably ever seen. And he is the best goalkeeper in the Prem.

He made a mistake against Norwich, no doubt. That was probably partly due to the fact that he cannot rely on our defenders being able to deal with the ball delivered to Holt.

Thats why, most of the top clubs around europe were sniffing around him when he was thinking of leaving, because he's not that good. But i do think it would be good to see some real compition for GK though

Name 5 keepers in the world who are better than Reina.

Reina is the best keeper for participation in a match is apparently he is just as good outfield as he is in goal. He wins us probley about 5 games a season and we play with our CB's wide about because reina acts like another CB

You have too much time on yours hands mate...Reina is class. The problem is that when a keeper makes a mistake its highlighted more. I wouldn't swap him for anyone !

He's the best in the Prem. Excellent with the ball at his feet, has very quick feet and has pace for a keeper. This often averts danger before it's too late and gets him to good positions to make saves.

What a whopper! you must be a manc or have impaired vision. You can say he may be responsible for their goal just as much as you can say Luis Suarez was responsible for us not scoring 6 and thus not winning the game! Goalies make mistakes with catastrophic consequences just as mistakes by forwards can be the difference the other end, fortunately for us Reina dosent make many mistakes and Luis came up trumps tonight, maybe you should support wolves!

Although the most recent poster is being ironic, the problem was unlucky finishing on our part, rather than blaming Reina for the solitary opposition goal. We kept hitting the effin' woodwork...

Dr S. Atire.

Please, one of the best keepers in the land.
He is the last line of defence and he does this fantasticly, everyone makes a mistake, dont blame , probably our best overall player.

By his own high standards his form has dipped slightly but more due to the fact the whole defensive unit is shaky.

Still a great shot stopper, excellent reflexes, fantastic at playing sweeper and excellent distribution. Think he's best keeper in Prem but we need a strong n settled defense for this to really shine through.

D 2308

He is a great shop stopper and with the ball at his feet there are none better. However, when it involves crosses he is like dracula he doesn't like them at all he never tries and catches them, always punches. In regards to the goal against Norwich he should of never went for it. It was way to far out him to get there and when a defender see's him coming it puts them in two minds. There is simple rules to follow, within doubt stay out and let backs take care of it,if it's in the six make it stick it takes the presure of the backs.

He's better than De Gea :)

Dont be daft, he is truely world class. yes sure he makes an occasional mistake but if the defence improved in front of him [including comunicating] he will be back to his golden gloves best.

Any criticisms of Reina are utter tripe.
The big problem is we have just 2 young world class players( Obviously Ste G is at the end of his career).
Compare that to a couple of yrs back when we had half a dozen or so.

The Yonks are flannel merchants and they're the sort who just think of cold hard cash whenever an ambitious team considers a bid for one of our stars.

Cue lots of abuse from the illinformed. But I'm a diehard red and very worried for our future.. AGAIN!

A lot of Reina's issues are in his head - same as most keepers. If they make a mistake, it can haunt them.

Remember a few years ago in the Derby when he made 2 horrendous errors and we lost 3-0? He went on a bad run of form after that but managed to dig himself out of it. At 29, he certainly has the talent, time and mentality to do it again.

TSP

I agree, Reina is fast becoming a liability..poor kicking, poor on crosses..but hey, no one can slate good old pepe can they!

Over the last few years we have been spoiled with the fantastic performances of Pepe Reina. Unfortunately for him he has set the bar so high that when standards slip slightly he gets hammered for it. There have been times when he has not been at his absolute best, but name just one other 'keeper in the Premiership that you would rather have. There is none.

As the last line of defence Pepe's mistakes are magnified and the fact that JC has had a poor season so far has left Pepe exposed a lot more often that he should be. He covers others but is not afforded the same luxury himself. His all round game and distribution is second to none and I hope that he stays for many more years. He has been judged by his peers and by ex-players and is held in the highest esteem, and that's good enough for me.

Reina is the best goalkeeper in the prem, he has his moments but every keeper does.
Personally there isn't another keeper in the World i'd have at Liverpool before him.

Peter

Ed,
Do we have any interest in Jeffrey Schlupp 19 year old Leicester City player? Is he good enough in your opinion?

He plays as a striker/right winger but he is versatile enough also to play at other positions. The lad has pace & trickery so can score goals.

pytbull

{Ed001's Note - we have looked at him, I don't think a move for him is likely at this time though.}

At this time, then at what time ? {Ed001's Note - maybe never, maybe in the summer, talk about a strange question!}

Ed, i was just wondering, our interest is in Luuk De Jong, however i have only really seen his brother Siem De Jong play. He is a playmaker for Ajax and was sensational with Suarez last few years. Just wondering if he could potentially be on our radar too. He is only 22 and already has about 100 appearances and 30 goals! Do you know if we've ever held any interest?

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed002's Note - There is certainly interest in Luuk, but his brother I don't know of any interest I am afraid.}

Ahhh, it'd be a real shame if we missed out on the De Jong brothers. They are the future of the Dutch national team!

YNWA! (Adam)

Do u mean we are interested in the one from man city? {Ed002's Note - You are kidding, right?}

Above, you are thinking of Nigel De Jong... the dirty ***** who fly kicked Alonso in the world cup final and snapped Hatem Ben Arfas leg in two...

Luuk plays for FC Twente (striker)
Siem plays for Ajax (Playmaker)
Nigel plays for Man City (Destroyer... of careers)

Alright Eds just wondering whether Valencia could be an option for january ? Looking abit short on the right, I know hes a manc but hes 3rd choice and very talented so why not ? {Ed002's Note - You will appreciate that throwing up random names is always going to solicit the same response. There is little chance of Valencia joining Liverpool in January.}

Ha ha thats funny.... Anyways Valencia is 2nd choice RM behind a very talented Nani, I carn't see him leaving UTD.... HERBIE(MUFC)

We've got more chance of buying the club Valencia than the player.

Jovetic can be a great partner of suarez. Chelsea want him too so may be have to bid a bit higher £20m will be done. He is young and experiance guy. {Ed002's Note - There is no chance whatsoever that Jovetic will be moving to Liverpool.}

A Chelsea fan Ed 002 is always everything impossible for Liverpool. {Ed002's Note - Yet again you manage to demonstrate to everyone what a cretin you are. You should sign your posts so everyone can share in your constant bleatings about me. Jovetic signed a five year contract extension last week.}

Recently I watched 2/3 times FC Twente playing, have to say I am not impressed/convinced with Luuk de Jong, he is not a pacy, tricky striker/winger as many of you might think, he is a slow one in the mould of Kuyt (not with his work ethic), Berbatov.
I would prefer not to buy him, though expensive some one like Gussipe Rossi /Higuain would be much better.

Ed, are you sure our interest in de Jong is very genuine?
are you convinced of him?

I have also come across many people talking Carroll will be sold, or could be offered to Newcastle with the toons offering us 20M + Steven Taylor for Andy. We are interested in Steven Taylor as he is a versatile defender who can cover both fullbacks & he has done pretty well, IMO he is better than Cahill.

any truth in this ed?

pytbull {Ed002's Note - The interest in De Jong is genuine - there is not a chance of Higuain joining in January or anyone of his ilk. I know nothing about a deal with Newcastle.}

Hi Eds. What is it with Andy Carrol that everyone seems to be writing him off? There is no way that he will be sold back or used as a make weight in any deal with Newcastle. He was bought as a player who will be developed and become part of the future of both club and country. The fact is Kenny wanted him, bought him and is in no need to rush him through. He will be a bit part player at best this season, as he is STILL not quite fit. There is no problem with his character, his work rate or training, and to have so called supporters coming on here and calling him a laughing stock is a disgrace. Once his development is complete he will become a main stay of the team.
Let's also face facts that KD went out and spent big money on wingers to eventually provide the supply AC will need.
Get off his back, and let him develop into the player we all want, ( and kenny knows ) he will be.

So call Pundit supporter may be know more then the scout or manegment. last year when rumers come out Ricky van Wolfswinkel is our target. so many fan dont like that no he is not our class this that. look at him how he rock in Sporting Lisboa. and now its Man Utd want him in their team.

I'm with pytbull on this one , the players we've
looked at in the dutch league (Wolfswinkle ,
Toivinin and De Jong ) have looked similar in
style i.e. lacking pace with no real flair to their
game. Ithink we will go for Navas , but not till
next summer,up-front Zaha possibly ?
JR

Steven Taylor awful!!

hey Ed is it true that we are planning to sell Carrol back to Newcastle? If yes, I'm afraid we'll become the laughing stock of English football.

Dan Rogers. {Ed002's Note - I know nothing of it. Sorry.}

Carroll a Rush buy of us. Torres was leaving and time is runnig out. been knock out after try for so many striker. I will not surprise if he been sold.

hy ed!!!!! wats up? i like the rumours of being linked with inkoom! cause i think johnson has past his best so selling jonhson n getting inkoom and then using kelly as a center back is good for club!! apparently he would cost less fee then bringing other cb! what do u guy and ed think of it?
and i have a opinion regarding andy not being used! this could might bring best of ac cause this may create ego on him to do the best for lfc or it will destroy him causing him fraustated?and ed if we buy de jong in jan, do you think it will kill any chances of bringing a right winger or both may happen? great site ed!!!!! {Ed002's Note - There is nothing confirmed about Inkoom and I would be surprised if he showed up in January.}

Love the way u put this at the end of every sentence!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eds what happened to the deal involving Andy polo?
I thought we had him in the bag cos of the trial we gave him.
Now all reports seems to say he is Germany bound. {Ed001's Note - we only agreed to get him on trial with a view to earning a contract, the deal that was being talked about was purely a trial. I believe he has a trial in Germany lined up, and I heard a couple of clubs in Spain also want to look at him.}
