Reading a rumour on Twitter and the source is :

TheChels.Org

It states that Torres will be a Chelsea player by 11PM Monday

Only a rumour, most likely BS but if it does happen and there is no swap deal then it looks like we are going to be playing with one man upfront still.

Apparently we made an approach for Diego Perotti on Wednesday. My good friend who's involved in Press and Operations at Sevilla told me a few days ago that we'd made a serious approach.
I didn't think any of it, as this fella is usually full of bull but Perotti (who normally starts) is on the bench for Sevilla for some reason tonight and I got a bit curious.

Anyone heard anything on this?

From reading all my Twitter sources, its quite clear that nobody knows whats happening with Torres; opposite reactions from everybody. So we'll have to wait and see on that one. Young is looking increasingly likely though. I see him and Adam coming if Torres stays, or those two and Sergio (hopefully) or Hoarau as well as another winger coming in if he goes. At the end of the storm there is always a golden sky.

Torres currently in Spain - don't know how he can have been in talks with Knny and Sg today! anyway. . he is pissed off at his agent for pushing this so far, he was aware of an offer on Thursday from Chelsea and seeing there was no apparent headway in new signings(yet again) advised his agent to listen to the terms of the deal, with a view to using it as reasons to force impending transfers (ie. they are offering x and if we aren't signing anyone then. .). His agent appears to have got a stiffy, thinking of the cash this deal could get him, and it was the agent who faxed through the transfer request, supposedly on Nando's behalf, even though Nando was never consulted about the request or ok'd it. He will be back tomorrow night to sort this out with the club and KD, he has fired his agent and will still be our number 9 on Tuesday morning. . . oh yeah, my source. . . .lets just say as a former rugby player, there are certain members of the LFC medical team I am friendly with from their time at my former club.

This rumours translated from spanish website AS.COM

Chelsea will not give up on his attempt to recruit Fernando Torres. The London club, despite receiving a flat refusal from Liverpool to his first bid for the Spanish striker, believes it is a matter of time that the 'reds' will finally give in, especially now that Liverpool himself has made public the player wishes to leave Anfield.

As reported in the British press today, after a second offer which was already known, in which will raise the economic level and included the young striker Daniel Sturridge, if Liverpool is still in its thirteen Abramovich wait no longer and give an irresistible offer. No less than 60 million pounds (69 million euros), which would be the third most expensive signing in history, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Zidane for Real Madrid.

The Russian businessman is aware that an opportunity like this may not occur twice. It is no secret that Chelsea has long sighs the '9 'at Anfield, but now is when I have to hand. For the first time the player has requested abandoned the club, or at least the first time that transcends the public. It is noteworthy that Liverpool was himself that was announced on their website, and can be taken either as a way to show their determination not to sell, or a strategy to prepare their departure to the fans.

In any case, to remain in the team, Fernando Torres will expect a public trial at Anfield that surely will not like, and that's what was missing from Liverpool to aggravate the crisis. Being dissatisfied with the star of the team for four months does not seem the best plan. Torres has extra motivation to play the Champions League this season, and surely will continue putting pressure on Merseyside to be let go.

Bit concerned by the suggestions that Anelka may be coming the other way. Whilst he is an excellent player, he will be 32 in March, so he is a player in decline. Given NESV's statement that they are looking to bring in younger, fresh talent, this appears to be a non-starter, unless it's 50 million cash + Anelka. He would be a great stop gap for another twelve months but no more than that.

this is just a thought. if we do sell Torres for 45-60 million, we could use the money to help Suarez by bringing in Diego Forlan. they would work well together, and they would want to stay for the long term. plus, if Comolli does his job properly, we could get Charlie Adam as well.

I just don't understand why we are still chasing Charlie Adam for 7 - 8 million when could secure Ever Banega from Valencia for the same price.

By far a better player and younger too. Ed don't you agree that Banega would be a much better addition than Adam?

Would love a bid for Juan Mata too but doesn't look likely unless it's a Meirelles style surprise one. {ed's note - I would prefer Banega, without question, it amazes me that we are pushing so hard for Adam, but I trust in Kenny.}

Ed i can understand every1 saying lets get rid of torres if he doesn't wanna be here and use the money to re-invest and re-build our squad, but with the transfer window being nearly over, i can't see us having the time required to buy anyone, with this in mind, if we do sell torres and don't buy anyone else, how can you see the rest of the season panning out, or do you think we can replace and rebuild in the remaining days of the window.

Chelsea to but in a 60million pound double bid in for torres and Johnson, with this we will go after dani alves, fernando Llorente, Adam Johnson and we'll get taiwo in the summer!

What a load of s***e. Alves is too old an his wages would be sky high. Id have Adam Johnson for no more than 18mil.

Just spoken with a very good friend of mine in Marjorca, i worked with this gent for 9 months so i trust him very well.
Please stay with me.
I was taken to many a game in majorca with this friend who introduced me to Victor Manuel Castano, a marjorca player, a good friend of my friend, went to school with him, he played with Llorente in the Under 19/ 20 spainish squads a few years ago.
He has told me that Llorente and most importantly Aletico where approached by a english club at Xmas on the availabilty of there player, he would not name the club.
I know it's the usual friend of a friend rubbish that is usually put on here but are there any other english clubs interested in him?
Ed's i thought he was nailed on to goto Madrid in the sumer?

I was spot on with the Torres transfer request yeaterday hours before it came public knowledge.

Now, from my sources, I am being led to believe that Torres has had a change of heart and that he has decided against a move.

The transfer request was submitted before the deal for Suarez was struck.

He wasn't trying to get the owners to show there hand he was genuinly disallusioned with what was going on.

I'm not saying that the change of heart is a way of holding of until the summer to move. Either way Torres and Liverpool will both win this way.

Personally, Now we have Suarez I would swap Torres (10/ 11 Season form) for a lesser known striker and a top winger.

One thing u need to understand about Henry is he does not give in to demands from his players. He is use to the baseball world where if u sign a contract u are commited to that contract. He will let Torres sulk or sit to get more out of it in the summer. Henry knows how to deal with this kind of situation. He did the same thing with Manny Ramirez from the Boston Red Sox. Just remeber Henry is a owner who knows what he is doing have faith.

I think we could be in real trouble. .

Let's remember, Suarez is still not officially an LFC player yet. He is yet to complete a medical and agree personal terms.

What if he turns around and says he doesn't want to join us if Torres leaves.

Then that would leave us with no Torres or Suarez.

I know this is worst case scenario but it could happen!

If these stories are true about torres, hes a bit of a cock. waiting until the end of the window to ask for a transfer is pretty low by anyone's standards. only a couple of days to go, who would replace him? aguero? llorente? negredo? if he leaves, my money's on someone who knows the english game already. anelka has been mentioned but i think his best years are behind him. cole? carroll? or my personal favourite. .defoe. we should have spent that 20m on him rather than keane imo. would spuds sell him to us? i know i'd be happy to get him for anything less than 25m now. leaving quite a considerable chunk of cash to strengthen other areas. sometimes in football, a player will demand such a transfer fee that will never be offered again so for the benefit of the team, that player should be sold. it might hurt for now but time (and money) is a great healer. if he goes, i can only see positives, 50m+ to invest in the team. 50m+ can be quite handy in the hands of any manager let alone the king

Ed i need your help , ive just got back from work and ive been thinking all day about the torres suituation , is there any chance that liverpool oweners + the king will chat to him to try and win him over or are they resigned to losing him and think its best to start finding replacements? because of the timing of it all , if we do lose torres by sunday , we need a new striker by monday which doesn't leave us long that's the problem , and if were looking for another striker then the chances of us snapping up wingers and charlie adam will be slim because our attention will be towards finding new striker.

The two names i thought of as replacements were the same as everybody else , fernando Llorente ( similar to torres ) or my favour player outside the premier league SERGIO AGUERO , but ed i was thinking the chances of signing either is slim surely? because cheslea had bids rejected for aguero which must of been (£30m plus ) and also athletic bilbao have said he llorente won't move in summer or winter transfer window. so im confused? who else is there?

Negredo = not too bad , but not a big name replacement
Hulk = would love hulk , think him and suarez would be unbelivable , plus there both south american, chances of signing him though?
lukaku = he won't move until the summer according to anderlecht and plus hes still studying in belgium
benzema = real madrid short on strikers because of higuains injury , but then they have just signed adebayor , so benzema and suarez would be awesome.
samuel eto'o = you never know , we should try and get him think he would be awesome.

any other options? luis fabiano? diego forlan? carlos tevez? andy carroll? pato?

what you think people? also what you think ed? {ed's note - the club wouldn't have gone public if they hadn't accepted he was going in my opinion. As for Aguero etc, it must be remembered that Spanish football is in a financial mess, every club needs money. Did you mention Rossi? He is class.}

If Torres leaves (I hope not) the targets should be:

Hulk, Falcao, Lisandro lopez, Gomez

And my 2 personal favs Cavani(napoli) 30 apps 20 goals. I don' t understand that nobody is talking about him. And Llorente.

Maybe aguero. But I'm not really sure that he is worth that kind of money. I also think he is 2 small for the PL.

What do you think ed

Miko 39 Belgium {ed's note - Cavani is a good shout, though I would choose Aguero, he may be short but he is a bull of a player.}

Manchester City are putting together a bid for Torres that Liverpool will be unable to say no to. And I do mean BIG. It will be more than Ronaldo moved for and will involve two other players making the switch to Anfield. Manchester City are prepared to blow Chelsea out the water and in doing so make a statement to the football world, as if they haven't spent enough on strikers already. I am not saying Torres is worth more than Ronaldo, he isn't, but this isn't about value, this is about City making a statement and blowing a rival out of the water.

City could well go on to win the Premiership this season, and I for one (if we must lose him) would rather he go there for a fee so large my sphincter may implode when I read about it, and stop the Dirty Mancs getting to number 19.

I was wrong about Torres wanting to leave, and I am just as gutted. But this bid will be placed soon and we would be mad to turn it down but we won't, it will be too big a bid.

A few months ago i made a comment on here that i think Torres should go he was a waste of space and didn't deserve to wear the red shirt and got slated for doing so.
He came out in the press and said if he had a partner and the owners invested in the squad he would happily stay and see out his contract
so eds.
1. Do you think the owners called his bluff and its back fired on him not thinking they would put up the money
2. Do you think if the club offered him £180k a week he would stay (like Rooney)
3. and is their anything that suggest Steven and Jamie have anything to do with any of this

Don't buy all this verbal intimidation sh**. The 'man' is over 6 ft, an athlete at the top of his game and is getting 100k plus to kick a ball around. If that was me I'd have nuts the size of grapefruits and nothing could verbally intimidate me. Either he needs to man up, or more likely this is an excuse! If he wants out let him go, we don't need such weak minded players. Grow a pair and be a man about it tho! A rumour to get this on the page: 35 mill + Adam Johnson, no chance city won't be sniffing around!

If Torres wants to go let him, I know he was picked up two months ago by a Man City car and wine and dined and offered a contract for the summer. He was going if Roy stayed but I thought it had all changed now KK had returned, he's wanted out for a long time and if he's going to sulk like he has done all season then we should take the money and run the club is bigger and better than him!

Maybe but if he delivers the goal's i don't think he would be so much of a problem, didn't he do really well under mourinho and didn't kick up too much about being shifted to the wing under him {ed's note - yes but at Inter he didn't have to worry about the ego of Gerrard overshadowing him. Eto'o was the main man, even playing out of position. I think it is telling that Jose was desperate for a striker at Madrid but never made any attempt to look at Eto'o.}

Fair point i suppose he doesn't really take players with him though does he. He didn't take any chelsea players with him either to inter or Real but i take on your point cheers mate. {ed's note - he took Carvalho and Deco to Chelsea, then took Carvalho on to Madrid.}

I refuse to believe Torres wants out because of a falling out with team members. If this were true he would not betray the club by trying to get a move to Chelsea, one of our biggest rivals! Surely he'd just ask for a move back to Spain.

There are two possible reasons he wants away. Either he's been offered ridiculous money by the Russian and feels he should take it as he genuinely believes Liverpool are going nowhere. Or his agent has told him to do it to see if we'll offer him a new, huge contract!

I think it mote likely the 1st reason as if he wanted a better contract I believe he'd have just asked for one. Whatever his reason, I have lost so much respect for him. I really thought he loved the club and never thought he'd put us in this position knowing full well the situation of rebuilding we are in at the moment.

If he doesn't want to play for us anymore then fine but we can not sell to Chelsea, because we can't be seen as a club that sells to our rivals! I'd rather get £30mil for him from a foreign team than £50mil from Chelsea or Man City.

If he came out and said he wants to stay I'd be delighted but I can't see it happening. Whatever happens fernando, if you leave Liverpool, you will never again experience the passion, support, love and loyalty that you got from our fans!

The whole Torres thing can be read in a two different ways.
1. (I pray) he was giving the club a push to get their money out. Wishfull thinking?
2.He knows any chance we've got of winning the league/ Champions League is a couple of seasons away so offski.

I think we all kind of feared this was coming in the summer anyway, I just hoped it would be then and to a team in Spain or Italy. I don't think it means he doesn't love the club, but remember he left his home town club to play for us to win things and we havn't. Surely we cannot be surprised that he could do the same thing to us. I'm sad about this, but it doesn't compare to Gerrard almost leaving for Chelsea - I'm a grown man with kids but I didn't sleep for a week during that saga.

I honestly don't think we will leave this weekend, and who knows he might click with our new lad - win the Uefa cup, get fourth or fifth place - and this will tempt him to stay. But this is part of the modern game now, Gerrard to Chelsea, Terry almost went to City, Tevez to City, Rooney theatening to leave United, Fabregas' on/ off move to Barca. That's how it is.

Who knows, a big transfer fee might do us good so we can go sign two or three great new players, eg. Rush paid for Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley and made us arguably better. 50/ 60 mill for a player who probably isn't going to get any better for us and was never going to stay forever anyway - it's not as if he's going to going to end his career here and retire to Knotty Ash with his spanish wife and kids is it? Just prepare your head for his exit either sooner or later.

Torres will go by the end of the deadline. There was birthday a party for a certain individual close to the club (not Carragher) recently which a friend of mine, who works for the club, attended. With alcohol flowing talk was rife about Torres and it has been a known fact for a while within the club that he would be leaving. Apparently he was made promises, don't know what they were, when Woy was in charge that have not been kept. Liverpool have publicly announced his intention to leave to start a bidding war to generate as much money as possible. Targets are in place, don't know who, Nando should see 2 or 3 new faces coming through the door as he leaves.
It is also a fact that some players feel that Gerrard has too much influence on and off the pitch. It's a situation Kenny is aware of, is monitoring and won't let ruin the club.

Good afternoon Eds and fellow LFC fans,

Today is a great day, as I along with many others said - we told you so! !

Torres will hopefully stay, but if he wants to go, let him! Eds did Torres req transfer or his agent? ?

Oh what could be done with £50 - 60 mil, Lukaku, Turan, Hazard & Honda, Sakhou in defence, with money from other player sales, Torres sale and a tiny input from NESV we could buy ALL these. Eds am I dreaming or do you think the numbers add up to these players? Possible?

Of course, one big problem. . If we sold Torres for that money, the world will know which would raise the fee for any players we bid for! Agree Eds?

Many thanks Eds, look forward to see what you think.

Bazzaa {ed's note - he requested the transfer. I think hanging on to the last minute to confirm him going would stop sellers upping their prices don't you?}

Hi Guys,
Great sight by the way totally addicted :-)
Just a thought on the Torres situation. . .
Anyone thought its a ploy to prevent Chelski strengthening before the window closes?
Think about it. . .
1. Chelsea come in for Torres
2. Kenny and Nando get together, agree to string them along?
3. Chelsea "think" he's coming and don't look elsewhere.
4. The window closes, Torres does a Rooney, says sorry and pledges his future to us with a new IMPROVED contract!
5. The added press coverage and media attention makes the Chelsea game even more mouthwatering.
6. Torres and Suarez hammer Chelski Job done!
Just speculation but. . . you just don't know.
Hope I am right

29 Jan 2011 12:56:24
Ed, do you think the silence from Torres is a definate sign that he wants out or do you think he's been told to stay out of the press until lfc make an official statement about him wanting to leave? With the Rooney and Tevez situations they both came out themselves and said they wanted out, with his comments two weeks ago, the signing or Suarez and appointment of KK it just doesn't add up. Cheers mate. {ed's note - he definitely wants out, he is probably just keeping his head down and letting his agent deal with it.}

29 Jan 2011 12:25:14
The way I see this Torres thing is, He is unhappy with someone or something.
That being the situation he wants out, now there are only 6 or so clubs in the world that will win things or can afford him.
1) Man City, but if he is only one of many there and could see himself dropped alot
2) ManUre, But he respects the fans to much to go there.
3) Arsenal, Too tight to pay the fee.
4) Chelski. . . . . .
5) A C Milan, Inter Milan and Bayer Munich, the leagues are not go enough for him.
6) Real Madrid, the same as Man Ure for the Athletico fans.
7) Barca, they simply don't need him.

So we're back to Chelski, they have bid and it's a fair first bid. Now to Torres if he waits until the summer he may miss the boat.

I hope we keep him until the end of the year to see if we can strike up a partnership with Suarez.

The only real problem if he does go is if Suarez starts asking questions and doesn't agree personal terms.

What you think Ed?

If torres leaves forlan to go with suarez what do you think ed? {ed's note - no thank you, not good enough for the EPL and he is carried in La Liga by Aguero who is twice the player.}

***C'mon Ed. Aguero's goalscoring record cannot be compared to Forlan's. Since leaving the Mancs, Forlan has flourished, season after season, and his record in La Liga is frightening. Aguero has the potential to replicate such records, however, if Forlan were to join us for around 10m, he would form a deadly partnership with Suarez. Aguero will join Real Madrid in the summer for 40m, so we can all forget about him.***

Glanton {ed's note - just watch Atletico play, without Aguero they are rubbish, with Aguero but no Forlan and they are still a good side. He is the central component of the side, just like Alonso was for us.}

You lot need to realise that the rules change next season. there has to be some players that are qualified for england or have youth training in england. so stop calling for all these foreign players. in this window we have to sell to buy to keep within the 25 man squad rule. {ed's note - no we don't, we had a couple of spaces left for non-home grown players.}

This situation with Torres is like a mirror image of when Gerrard NEARLY left Liverpool. REMEMBER when Gerrard was linked with Chelsea, REMEMBER when HE also put in a transfer request and Liverpool ACCEPTED it - REMEMBER when he couldnt leave because of the passion for the club and the fans he had for them and we had for him. The same situation is now for Torres. Lets beg him to stay because without him we will be worse off. When Gerrard decided to stay it was such a great feeling and was the RIGHT decision. The same would be said for Torres. It just does not feel right him wanting to go. Something is so not right.

Cant believe Torres handing in a transfer request, when Liverpool look on the up Kenny got us playing quality football again and we are only 9 points off 4th with 14 games left, maybe its a smart move by Ancelotti as he considers us a threat so he has through a spanner in the works and as Torres wants to move he has succeeded. the only way I would allow the judas to move is 50m and Anelka, hopefully get another striker/ winger with some of the funds and then do real business in the summer, what do you think ED

I think if we let Torres go then it should be Llorente, Muller or Cavani, as I think that augero is slighty similar to suarez and we now need a target man, ed would u take henry on loan until the end of the season similar to donavon to everton last year.

Stop critisising(typo? ) Torres. really
Stop saying be loyal this that, if he is unhappy he should go , you might not remember this but this football is also just a f***ing job. . When where unhappy at our job we have the right to look for anything else. and so do footballers. Let him be and don't blame him .

Please can someone tell me why Torres has fallen out with Gerrard and Carra? Without Carra in the team we have lacked organisation at the back. Without Gerrard in the team we lack a driving force in midfield who can also pick out a pass to open up a defence.
For me personally if Torres was to go i would be gutted, even when he has'nt seemed up for it this season the fans have stuck by him and treat him as a LFC legend.
If he signs for Chelsea and plays against us in 2 weeks i don't think many LFC fans could watch.
On a positive note i was delighted we signed Suarez, i really think he will be a great signing. I just hope he gets his wish and plays up front with Torres
If Honda and Charlie Adam come in before deadline day i really think we will have a chance to push further up the league, maybe top 4! !

Ed I'm just wondering when the next "stage" of this saga is going to commence? If Liverpool were actually thinking bout letting Torres go wouldn't it have to be today so we can strengthen up our squad?

Love the site and remember Kopites YNWA {ed's note - not necessarily, we could negotiate deals for replacements at the same time as sorting out his sale, then both go through at once.}

Listen, can everyone stop having a go at Stevie G and Carra, they have done nothing wrong.

Torres has not wanted to be there for a long time, the reason they fell out with him is because they could not believe how bad his attitude was.

Did not turn up to team bonding sessions.
Was not interested in training.
Was not trying during matches.

Come on all lets all stop trying to blame everyone else when it is clear he has not wanted to be there for a while.

Lets just get rid and start building for the future.

Also you must now realise that i am not making it up.

He will go to Chelsea.

Macca {ed's note - like I said you only hear their side of it mate. Torres is not the first foreign player to complain about them. I love Carragher, but he is not a calm sort of person and he does intimidate people.}

CALM EVERYONE i SEE this in a totally different light think about this , KK sees no transfers happening and owners are really not willing in the jan window to let go of money so he thinks a plot up with torres to hand in the transfer request to pressure the owners to pay and they did. Because now ssn say torres is staying TORRES HAS ACTUALLY HELPED SUAREZ COME HERE AND HE IS NOT LEAVING, DO YOU THINK KK WOULD LET HIM GO AND THIS SWEET TALK A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO and he did say he would not go to another prem club. Tust me this was a plan to make the owners pay up! so stop giving him a hard time he has done us a favour!

He can be talked out of Chelsea they may have a sugar daddy who can throw money about but they don't have a big stadium and no plans or thought to expand or re-build. 29 Jan 2011 11:58:47
O.k, nando wants a move away, but we are in a good position with him.he still has a long term contract and nesv will realise that by keeping him till the summer will open up a bidding war between chelsea, city, inter, maybe barca and ac milan.even real might throw there hat in the ring.this will get us the best deal for the club so we can build a squad to challange for the title.if we could get say 60 mil we could buy a top centre half [10 mil]left back [15 mil]and a world class winger and striker.obviously nesv would have to add to the 60 mil so let say they make 30 mil available, how much better would we be come august, with suarez settled in and maybe adam this window.the dark clouds look a little brighter if you look at it this way.we are liverpool football club, and we will rise again!YNWA

Not a rumour just using my powers of deduction:

Could it be possible that Torres is going to Chelsea because Aguero has already agreed to go there aswell? And Honda to go to Atletico? (CSKA owned by Abramovich in some capacity)

I heard that it was Aguero that scuppered the bid for him the other day though? the buy out clause was activated but he did not want to go to Chelsea?

What do you think Ed? {ed's note - either that or because Aguero won't go there they have turned to Torres.}

It seems that you're not in the top flight these day unless your most prized player has put in a transfer request prompted by their agent for the resulting wedge if it goes through. We should hang on to Nando and cash in when the summer transfers come round if KK can't persude him to do the business.

29 Jan 2011 11:50:34
Here's my verdict on the Torres situation.
Torres wants to leave to expand his carrer as he's getting on about, he's 26.
However, Liverpool will not sell him this transfer window, where's the logic in that after buyin another world class striker? He'll most likely go in the summer and maybe, after playing with Suarez, it might make him keen on staying for another few years.
Think about Rooney and Tevez? They both had similar 'spells' this window. I wouldn't worry about it for now.

()()

29 Jan 2011 11:49:45
I don't want to sell Torres particularly, but if the boy wants to go, let him go. I don't think he wants to go to Chelski though, that's why he has gone public. He has always said he would not move to another club in England and imo he's eying up a move to Barca or Inter. But at the moment there doesn't seem to be much interest from their camps. But if Chelski want to beat these european giants, they are going to have to put up big money. If I was in Kenny's shoes, i wouldn't accept any less then £50 million, plus Zhirkov say?
What's you opinion on this ED, and are the rumours of Chelski tapping Torres up true ?

MansfieldRED {ed's note - clearly Chelsea have spoken to him and he is agreeable to a move there. It is the club which has gone public, obviously to try and drum up more interest.}

Ed , we all know what torres is like when his head is not in the game , he is terrible , doesn't make runs and gives out to the ref if he's touched by a defender . surely the best thing for both parties is tell chelsea 50 million cash and he's yours .and go out and buy big . aguero or llorente, lukaku , honda etc. prolific goal scorers like keegan and rush have left before and we have always replaced them .

29 Jan 2011 11:44:14
If you look at the timing of the Torres transfer request it definately points to a recent fall out with somebody senior in the club. He obviously thinks it can't be mended and the other individual is tied into the club. Two weeks ago he was issueing a rallying call so the idea of lack of investment causing his departure is garbage. The only positive is that if it is a fall out, maybe Dalgleish can put a bandage over it and get him to change his mind ?

Question Ed, and anyone else, do you think Torres wants to go to Chelsea or is it case he justs wants out of Liverpool, I know the two might see the same thing but there is a difference, I would rather he just wanted out if anfield than the thought of him wanting to play fir Chelsea. The fact he chose lfc over all epl teams in the first place says that Chelsea can't be the priority in this saga more the fact that he is not willing to wait around to see of nesv are the real deal, let's face it there are many fans thinking nesv are here for profit (I'm not one of them, hope I'm right), bob lobaw. {ed's note - out of Liverpool, no doubt in my mind that he just wants out.}

What about selling up Torres for around 50mil - 60mil then try to get Lukaku, Arda Turan and maybe a quality left back? With the price of Torres we would have a complete team. I think that Torres, now that he has requested to leave, won't give up his usuall 100%.

Another question ed. How many months/ years has Torres left on his contract? {ed's note - I don't know about Lukaku, not seen enough of him to convince me. The contract is until 2013 with the option of a further year.}

Dutch to English translation
Suarez: "Liverpool bit of a dream club for me '
29/ 01/ 2011 11:16

Luis Suarez was at the airport Saturday morning to go to Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker expressed happiness with the one million transfer.

"I'm sure glad, " said Suarez on the Ajax website. "This is a great opportunity for me. Liverpool is a fantastic club, where everyone wants to play. They are always the first four in England. It's a bit of a dream club for me. "

Suarez experienced last week "difficult days" to prepare for the match against NAC Breda on one side and the potential transfer to Liverpool on the other side. "I'll miss a little Ajax. But this is normal in football. "

Goodbye to his teammates are still limited to SMS messages. "It's still a little early for me. But Monday I go with the guys talking on the Future. "
For Suarez, Liverpool will cost 26.5 million euros, there is a contract at Anfield until mid-2016 ready.
Straight from Luis mouth

Just because Torres handed in a transfer request does not mean he wants to leave. Rooney done this exact same thing a few months back to get an improved contract. Torres is testing the commitment of nesv. If they up his contract he will stay. In my opinion I would love him to stay and we should try to match what chealsea have tempted him with as Liverpool is his most loved English club.

The Uruguayan striker heads to Anfield as uncertainty surrounds the future of Fernando Torres, with Goal.com UK exclusively revealing that the former Atletico Madrid star wants to leave the club by the start of next season with Chelsea heavily linked.

goal.com r saying that torres wants to be gone by the start of next season, wander if things r changed and hes decided to stay till summer

Reading all this regarding torres to move at the end of the window and not enough time to get a replacement for him, id find it firstly hard to believe that henry or comolli or anyone high up in liverpool didn't see this coming from within the club. I would also believe that in going for luis suarez that there was a shortlist of potential back up plans should the deal not go through and that contact and enquiries may have been made with these players clubs. So for these reasons, if torres is to leave us even at this late a stage then i believe there would be no problem getting a replacement before the window closes!

Just my opinion.

Hey Ed love the site and would love some input!

I was just wondering, assuming that nando does leave (which personally i think is still up in the air, will find out alot more in the next 12 hours) do you think realistictly we could land a high calibre player like aguero or llorente? would love to see either one of them plus turan or honda arrive what do you think>? {ed's note - we could land them, the only question is whether that is the way the club will look. We do need to strengthen other areas as well, it might be better to buy a winger and a slightly cheaper striker.}

Just a couple of observations about this Torres thing.

Since he signed a contract for 6 years and has subsequently come out recently as sayin' that he would stay at Liverpool unless they wanted to sell him, in view of his transfer request, would that be sufficient evidence for me to win a civil case against him for the cost of my Liverpool shirt with his name and number on? There are goin' t' be so many disappointed kids especially, who wear their Liverpool shirt which bears his name on the back.

My second observation is that although there presumably is a £50 m get out clause in his contract, it doesn't come into effect until the end of the season, in which case we'd get more for him in this transfer window than we would by waiting until summer.

29 Jan 2011 11:16:14
I have a source close to the Liverpool training ground and some squad players (believe it or not). I have it on good authority that a deal for Torres will be concluded before Mondays deadline but won't be a January signing. The deal would see Torres play for Liverpool until the end of the season and then move to Chelsea in the summer. Heres some more news: the fee will at this point be £50m BUT should Anelka wish to leave or have a poor end to the season he shall join in a swap deal with 40m going to Liverpool and Anelka.

Hi ed great site by the way. what if Torres went who do you think we should go for. What about eto. Do you think we would have any chance getting him. didn't inter sign some new striker yest. i honestly think eto is every bit as good as torres, and would eat up the premiership. what do you think ed? {ed's note - Inter signed Pazzini, Eto'o is more of an ego than anyone at the club, he would be a problem I feel.}

Maybe but if he delivers the goal's i don't think he would be so much of a problem, didn't he do really well under mourinho and didn't kick up too much about being shifted to the wing under him {ed's note - yes but at Inter he didn't have to worry about the ego of Gerrard overshadowing him. Eto'o was the main man, even playing out of position. I think it is telling that Jose was desperate for a striker at Madrid but never made any attempt to look at Eto'o.}

It is very dissapointing to see one of our key players from the latest seasons wanting a leave. I still have hope in my heart that Torres will change his mind and we can move past this like we did with Gerrard a few years ago. If it is true that Torres send in the transfer request after the signing of Suarez, it might have been a statement from Torres to the owners, that everyone is treating Suarez as a "Messias" but Torres know that Liverpool not only need one, "Messias", they need several to compete at the highest level wich was his goal when he signed for the club in the first place. This is something that have worked in the wrong direction for the past years due to our last owners, now it finally seems we are on the right path, but this will take at least 1, 5 season to rebuild us to the very top, something that Torres might have hard to deal with when his goal was to compete at the highest level 2 years ago. Maybe one more marker signing of a worldclass player might change his mind, i hope so and i will love this player until the end.

Don't want to interupt his preperation and all!
Sell Torres - who needs him? Not us he doesn't even sore any goals, get the 50 mill and hopefully Anelka (yes please) and buy Lukaku and Ganso and Ramos as he wants away from Barca!
Lets have a team that wants to be a team. . .
P.S - Gerrard needs to be brought down a level and Miereles given more of a freedom half role!

Craig Johnson is a legend! !Ramos plays for Real and would cost a load. . wouldn't move to lpool and also kelly is a star for the future. . we don't need a right back

Eds, someone. .

Can someone who knows clear this up please.

Chelsea offer 40m + sturridge, and its rejected, i then read that he DOES have a clause for 50m but that kicks in at the end of the season, so is the clause correct and if so we shouldnt settle for less than the 50m surely if he is to go this window, i say if it is correct re the 50m clause then keep him until the summer, he is under contract afterall

Chris {ed's note - nobody knows for sure about the clause, but I think it is highly unlikely to be true. Either way I think he has burnt his bridges with his sulking and transfer request and needs to go for the good of the club.}

i agree ED, we should tell chelsea, 40 mill plus kalou or malouda and then use the 40 mill to activate aguero's transfer release clause.

It is going to be similiar to the Rooney, Tevez cases, don't worry.

YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE. . .

To all those supporters who think Torres should be given some slack (eg he only wants to win things). Rubbish, Alan Shearer went to the club he loved and stayed there despite all the offers and opportunities he had. This is only about money, plain and simple greed. If he wants to go, let him, and good riddance. I hope he does an Owen and wins cock all. I am so angry I thought Torres was different but it appears he will be at home with that other money grabbing tw*t Cole. Anyway rant over, I think Suarez will be a cracking addition to the squad and a little bird told me to expect one more big signing, I am not talking the overpriced adam but something right out of left field

Never get views n this site but here we go again. .

I don't want Torres to leave i love the guy and i don't know how to break the news to my Little Boys but, 50 million for a player who is alway injured. . .
Reina
Kelly Carra Agger New LB

Gerrard Meileless
Kuyt Cole New LW
Sauerez

We need to use the money on Sanchez (udinese)

And Lahm (FC Munich)

Sanchez will be as big of a palyer as Torres. Would prefer to get them and keep Torres but it seemsinevitable he will go. I think we should tell him he can have a move in the summer, what you think ED's

{editor: We should sell him in the summer to a team abroad in my opinion.}

()()

29 Jan 2011 10:59:24
Devastated at the news that Torres has done this but not surprised, so lets cash in.
Tell Chelsea we'll take 35 mill plus Essien, don't fanny around with Anelka (lazy moody fuc@@r) Sturridge (unproven) ask them for there best players, we need a midfield general, Same with Man City tell them we'l take Adam Johnson, that will piss both of them off and force torres to watch from the bench while Suarez scores from all over the place.
One question is the fact that Rafa could have s'thing to do with it?
Left a lot of money to the Hillsborogh fund when he left so i would be surprised if he is sh@t stirring, could be riskin it with the fact he still has a house in l'pool.

Maybe I'm putting two and two together and getting five, but, Torres's standout game for me this season was against chavski, and he's only been playing well since the return of dalglish, or has he? The transfer window opened just after dalglish was appointed, just a theory, what ever the reasons as much as he Is a joy to watch and an amazing footballer if he wants to leave he needs to, best thing for both parties involved.

Rafa to be next Chelsea manager 100%

That is why he wants Chelsea
Rafa is still in Liverpool causing problems with Torres head ( Thats what has changed ) using his Spanish mouth in the press you know who I'm talking about as does Macca

His fall out is with Liverpool players is he wanted rafa to stay Gerrard Carra etc didn't

New owners playing mind games and will use as excuse to balance books

they don't want superstars the want a team of 11 equals

Rafa is our problem I promise " I interviwed him every week at Melwood"

watch city come in with 54 Million offer but it's Chelsea he wants

Just let him go

Liverpool will push for players Young and Honda before letting Torres go so the price dosent go up for the fees we have to pay

Its no big deal, if he wants out then let him go. We've acquired a great striker in Suarez, lets get Anelka into the equation along with £45M and we can further strengthen our squad.

If he doesn't want LFC, then LFC don't want him.

I love it when the papers come out with crap like
'he's been continually let down by the club in a lack of investment'. Who do these players think they are, FT has still been paid his £120,000 p/ w. Imagine all of us stormed into our bosses office and told him we weren't happy with the way his company was doing its business, by the time we'd finished speaking our p45's would have hit us in the face.

The same as Masch, you've been a great player for us, but your not bigger than LFC. You will recieve more money no doubt, but you will never replicate the support or idolisation you once had at Liverpool, thanks for nothing Nando

This is a bad day, no denying that. But let's look at the league table - the scummers are currently sat pretty at the top and none of us really thought they would move on and be this competitive (even if they are rubbish) without Ronaldo; but there they are. With the right signings to compliment a system & the squad (Honda, Turan & Cahill) we can move forward; although I doubt moves like this would come to fruition until the summer.

What I don't get is the ambition in a move to Chelsea - they are very close to a full rebuilding period and we are closer to them than they are Man U (points wise). It would be hillarious if we put a run together and finished above them.

Bit of hopeful thinking here.
But is it a coincidence the money we get for Torres could be enough for aguero's buyout clause. We need a replacement, it'll be hard to fill his boots. . Well not so much this year anyway. I don't mind him going anymore now, just wish it was to a club abroad. I.e barca.

Honda will be a good signing if we get him, let's just hope suarez doesn't change his mind coz Torres might not be there

Anyone else feel like NESV are in a catch 22 situation? If they sell a clearly unhappy player the conspiracy theorists will jump to the conclusion that they'd planned it all along and that Suarez was a cheaper replacement. If on the other hand they remain resolute in order to prove they will not be dictated to by players we'll likely have an even more half-arsed Torres on our hands.

The best we were likely hoping for this year was a high Europa place, so why not start the rebuilding process a little earlier, the rest of the squad is more than capable of attaining 5/ 6th and we'll have more money to get some quality wide players.

I would go for Aguero/Llorente myself, make a big statement of intent and put the left over towards Honda and Turan.}

This is the Truth

Over thinking things maybe but could this put him off joining? Any thoughts Ed. . {ed's note - Suarez agreed personal terms yesterday.}

Sorry to see Torres wants out, agree that Gerrard And Carra have a lot to do with his decission.
Think this goes back to last year when he chose to have surgery before the end of the season so that he would be available for Spain in the World Cup. Personally don't blame him for that, we weren't competing for the league and the club put Europa League before his wellbeing.

That said I think the stance that the club have taken refusing his transfer request is spot on, not because we are trying to keep him, but because all of europes top clubs will have 5-6 months to put a bid togeather and we will have a bidding war and get top price, then re-invest.

It also gives the club time to line up targets over time, not rushed in 2-3 days if we let him go now.

No player is bigger than our club.
I support LIVERPOOL FC, not any 1 person, whether it's Torres, Gerrard or even KK.

Am a gutted nando fan would have understood if he left in the summer but this way is a kick in the cods. For all the reds in england i have been watching the asian cup (which australia will win) closely and Honda is by far the best at the tournament.

Onto the rumors, my best mate and room mate plays at the glory with robbie fowler and his opinion (specify opinion and not fact) is that we will land honda but says torres is still 50/ 50 he is disapointed about the whole situation but reckons pool will keep him past tuesday then cash in when summer comes.

Then we will be in for Turan and the like and his presence will not be missed.

Reds fans remember we have stars in our ranks and are good hands. i think the owners have proven that if we lose nando that the money will be well spent.

Will be sick if i see him lining up at chelsea next week though.

Don't want to interupt his preperation and all!
Sell Torres - who needs him? Not us he doesn't even sore any goals, get the 50 mill and hopefully Anelka (yes please) and buy Lukaku and Ganso and Ramos as he wants away from Barca!

Not a rumour more opinion, hope that is OK. Nando is undoubtedly world class but we don't want players who don't want to wear the shirt. This has to be seen as an opportunity, Liverpool need to screw as much out of Chelsea as they can. Get 60m+ or 50m and a couple of top class players and with the money buy three more. . five class players for Nando is a good deal. However, pride in the name is key. . that is why Charlie Adam would be a great buy, class player, fantastic ability to spray the ball around and would wear the red shirt with pride.

Torres only handed in the transfer request to test the ambitions of the NESV. It is a simple ploy now to raise his salary and make sure that he can always believe them in the future and also that Suarez is not bought to comfort him or to please us the fans. He wants an assurance and is doing this test. Nothing else, next Sunday, he will be wearing a Red no.9. So have patience and believe in EL NINO.

I think it is the toughest and the most honest test for both NESV and us fans on our loyalty to El Nino. He already demonstrated that by staying in the summer when we are heading nowhere. Now why would he do this??

Please also have faith in Kenny who will bring us out as winners. Besides, if you read the news Liverpool already rejected the previous offer of 27 million GBP. The second offer was also rejected, then Torres request was rejected and so what makes u think LFC will accept 45 million or 50 million or for that matter 100 million before they have tried the partnership of Torres and Suarez. (Everyone knows about TORRES, so surely his value will not dip even in the summer.

Just tossed and turned al night so i'm a bit light headed. But how is it with a player who signs an agreement of commitment and pledges his loyalty to to his club, can he be forced to stay? And can his team hang him up down at the market like a plucked chicken to be sold to the higest bidder?

If torres wants to go leave him go in the summer to the highest bidder preferably out foreign, simple as that. My guess though is that he's useing the same tactic as rooney ie. Give me more money and ill sign a new contract and stay. Even if he was the most loyal person in the world he's still injury prone so anything over 55mil is good business, he can be replaced for the better. I

If we do let Torres go then we should do it as soon as possible because otherwise we won't be able to bring in a suitable replacement. Any plaver Chelsea offer in the deal will not be good enough (they're too old or not good enough). We need to get man city bidding to drive up the price if we do indeed sell. However I would obviously not sell for anything less than £60 Million +. NESV have not seen this coming and Henry and Werner are now meeting with senior management as to what to do before they unviel suarez later today or early monday morning.
Kenny wants to hold onto him but NESV want to sell him for an inflated fee before the clause to sell for £50M activates.

He hasn't got a clause in his contract, We shouldn't sell him till summer cos it doesn't suit us. We sell him when it suits him. He will give 100% till end of the season because if he doesn't nobody will buy him.

It's time to stop the guess work and the slashing off if Torres.

The request was placed BEFORE the news of Suarez deal being broken, Torres felt he had been lied to regarding the signing of a partner up front. The Suarez deal is now all but done and the transfer request had been revoked! However Torres will now speak to his advisors regarding the over reaction of some so called Liverpool fans and may now leave anyway. Remember when Stevie was linked with Chelsea and people were in the streets burning Gerrard shirts, it's this kind of reaction that makes people WANT to leave!

Torres owes the club nothing Liverpool are sime
His employer, and people change employers all the time, if anybody on here is old enough to remember when Dalglish or Rush left you will also remember that back in those days it was fine to want to further your carear.

29 Jan 2011 10:18:07
So Torres has asked for a transfer which he should be given, if he is not happy at our club then we don't want or need him. We need all the players pulling together not sulking like we have all seen him do. He should only be sold but only when it suits the club and to the highest bidder i think Man City would pay alot more than Chelsea for him. I doubt that we could get some one in in this window so keep him till the summer then sell.

Well said mate, As soon as he put in a transfer request he stopped being the centre of importance at our club and we will use him and sell him how and when we want. we have 2 years to find a suitable buyer, and not in the prem, you don't sell to rivals. Also accept nothing under £45M.

Rumour is that they have offered euros 50,000,000 euros. around £42.5 mill + Sturridge. Don't know how true this is.

The board rejected the offer?
They also rejected the transfer request?

Its one hell of a lot of cash.It would also send a message of intent out if they handed it straight back to KK

Ed - great site by the way!

I have to agree with several people on the site suggesting that the problems at Liverpool stem from Gerrard and Carragher. I agree that these two have been fantastic players for Liverpool, but at the moment they have too much say in the club and feel like they are untouchable! Torres is a fantastic player and even with his injuries he has been a fabulous player for the club but you have to admit he has looked happier and more interested when Gerrard has been out of the team. Personally, I would prefer to lose Gerrard and Carragher and keep Torres, along with strengthening the sqaud with a couple of wingers and a LB.

Liverpool FC is bigger than any one player and I think they should look at bringing Gerrard and Carragher down a peg or too. If this doesn't happen we risk not only losing Torres, but the likes of Reina, Agger, etc who would also be a massive loss to us.

I hope the fans don't blame Torres and turn against him if he does stay! We need to sort these problems out internally first or this will just happen again with new players who don't see eye to eye with SG and JC.

YNWA {ed's note - if they are the problem I personally still wouldn't keep Torres, he is showing weakness, he should step up and sort it, not sulk and look to leave.}

I'm not sure how many will agree with me but think Chelses bid for Torres has an agenda about it. They must know we aren't goimg to sell but but they also know a big bid will turn his head. So because we play them in two weeks time he's going tobe sulky and not the danger that he always is too their fragile looing defense. Remember what he did to them at Anfield? So now his transfer request has been denied I would be willing to bet he doesn't play against Chelsea "because his head is not in the right place" whatever happens We end up losing and they end up winning

Brother/ sister Reds
what I thought unthinkable looks likely! But! Is Torres doing a Rooney? Does he want a longer/ better contract? Don't know, would like to know what Ed thinks?
Also, why has he left it so late? throughout his poor form we supported him and now he's dropped this bombshell. We should only sell him if there is a replacement found. Chelsea are showing how desperate they are! Money is all, sadly. On a positive note, a small one admittedly, if he stays till the end of summer we might even get to the top4. We can the way teams are playing at the moment. Think, if and it's a big if, we'd won two of the silly losses we've had we would've been up there! Torres has really disappointed me, though. Unless it's a ploy for a better contract.
And what are these rumours that it's Gerrard and Carra who are driving him away. .is there any truth in that?

Torres definitely seems to be on his way to Chelsea going by Lfc declaring that the Striker has handed a transfer request.Lfc, King Kenny and D.Comolli have to react fast and try to get either Aguero or Lukaku or both with the money.but we do also need to get a high profile midfielder a la Alonso and a LB.If Torres eventually leaves and we do get these, then no prob.we'll climb up the ladder for sure.the best thing however will be for us to get Aguero to replace Torres.
It's very sad to hear Torres leaving but all the fans are being disappointed with this transfer window with only one notable signing (Suarez) and so is Torres.with only 3 days left, it's almost impossible to expect other world class players joining Lfc. I think that has led to Torres demanding Lfc to talk to Chelsea.
I would like all Lfc fans not to screw the lad.he has given us lots of nice moments.but time is running out.he'll be 26 in march and he wants to win titles.In fact, besides the world cup with Spain, Torres has actually won nothing.after so many broken promises, we can't expect him to stay at Lfc.But Lfc is a team and we have to get over that and keep moving forward without nailing the lad.

I've never been so gutted as I am today, I never thought a player like him would stabb us in the back we took him as an average player and turned him in to a world beater he is today, and what does he do to thank us? I don't have a problem if he came out and said i want to leave for barca or an Italian team, but i do have a problem because its an english team that's the hardest to take.

ed do you think Liverpol will/ should report chelsea to the FA, UEFA and FIFA. And we sell him "sorry can't say his name :"(" against his wishes to another club, e.g. if Man city came in and outbidded these chavs then liverpool can floge him to city and he can't do anything about it because he's already handed a transfer request.

If it is Gerrard and carragher i don't blame him. Because these players are probably untouchable. you have a hard time with them and you can't sort that out, you will not have a hope that it gets easier. because there are here forever, they are locals and captains. even Benitez was afraid of the fans not to play them when necessary. Mournihio could have easily used another defender in carragher's place last season.
earlier in the season gerrard and torres were reported to have a bust up. when gerrard scored against Sunderland and torres didn't go towards him to celebrate. but my thought is with Carra. carragher is the kind of player who would easily confront players when they don't show effort. He yells at players even on the pitch. like in the case of Arbeloa.
ED if you were the one handling the situation at this moment, what will you decide? what decision will benefit the club?
miccmak {ed's note - personally I think Gerrard has too much power within the club, I think that needs to be curtailed and him brought back down to earth.}

Well lads. Cant sleep here. Sick feeling in my stomach. Have been thinking this for a long tome, the last 2 years in fact that Liverpool need to drop some of their dead weight. Two men in particular, that are a law on to themselves at our great club. They think they are untouchable. No doubting in my mind that it is Stevie an Jamie driving Fernando out the door. Personally i have said this before that Jamie is bad for team morale and got shot down on this site, but it would appear Stevie is at it too. Them 2 should realise you don't have to be scouse to love LFC. no doubting Fernando loves Liverpool, he is being pushed out the door. Would rather we sold Gerrard and Carra. The day that those 2 leave will be the dawning of a new succesful era for the reds. K3

{ed's note - I would like to think we would get Anelka and the cash, it would make sense to me. Then worry about buying wide players with the money, Turan I would have thought. I still haven't given up hope of Honda signing for us, I would love him to join. What would you do if it was you?}

Thanks for posting my query really appreciate it quality site! If it was me i would definatley approach Turan he is pure class and it's well known that he is a big fan. as well as him i'd like to assume anelka joins as well as part of the torres deal. If turan did sign i would say we'd have around 30 - 35 million left wich could be used i think to pull lorente i would love to see him in a reds shirt. with a strike force of anelka suarez and lorente with merieles (spelling) would rocket us to the top 4! wishful thinking but not impossible

Crazy John {ed's note - one of the other editors was talking about Turan's walls at home having the Liverpool crest on them, that is the kind of passion we need.}

From a distance this is how it looks. Rafa is going to Chelsea and he wants to take Torres with him. He may have promised Roman that he could make that happen. If I am right, there is a massive tapping up that the FA will have address.

Ed, and fellow Reds: I am feeling gutted and shocked like everyone else, but the thing to remember is that our owners are now NESV. You don't think this has happened to NESV with the Red Sox? NESV has had players on the Red Sox think they are bigger than the team and demand to leave, and NESV has always bounced back, and most times, are stronger after the player that nobody wanted to leave has left.

I trust NESV, and as they showed with Suarez, they want to put together a winner. And the other thing to remember, Suarez is NESV's first big signing, and Torres just rained on what was supposed to be NESV's big day. My guess is John Henry is doing whatever he needs to do right now to make sure Torres regrets handing in that written request. Torres will go, Henry will bring in somebody new, and Liverpool will be better for it. YNWA!

Say Torres does betray us and we get 50 million plus anelka (wich is the most likely deal in my eyes) that gives us 2 decent strikers and 50 million. The question i am wondering and i'm sure alot of other people are as well is who will we target? the prospects: Lukaku and Hoarau or will we target proven players like: aguero and turan!? If we did target the proven players do you think we will have enough pull and money for them (considering the mammoth bid chelsea bid for aguero being turned down) what do you think ed? Also what do you think bout lorente signing on?

{ed's note - I really don't think Gerrard is the right person to persuade him to stay.}

why? {ed's note - they aren't close, plus he is not exactly the most calm or intelligent, this situation calls for a calm, intelligent conversation. Plus there is always the likelihood it is Gerrard that he was complaining about.}

If Torres wants out sell him. Take the money and reinvest in the squad.

NESV have experience with this type of thing in Manny Ramirez. Great Ball player for the Sox. Acted like a big baby, and moped and whined. NESV traded him when right and reinvested. Sox more than ok. Splashed loads of cash, these owners know what they are doing. Sometimes you gotta cut dead weight. Also I support the shirt not player, and I want players who love the shirt.

Spurs and Man City are now entering the frame to sign Torres! Spurs would be willing to match any offer Chelsea make and are willing to throw in Kranjar, Corluka and Crouch plus cash. Where as Man City are said to be really annoyed that they didn't make an offer sooner for Torres. If they'd of known he was willing to move clubs then they wouldn't of signed Dzeko. Let's hope they offer £70mil so Chelsea have to match it. This could also bring a premature end to Ballotellis time in Manchester a
s he's been angling a move to AC Milan since he touched down in England!

{ed's note - Chelsea are not averse to agreeing with the player before making a bid, they did the same with Gerrard. I just wonder if that is why Torres is so desperate to leave all of a sudden, they have promised him something we couldn't compete}

Ed. This is the first time i've posted, love the site. Just had to throw my two cents in here. . the Americans said they want to spend more on wages, so I don't buy into Chelsea offering more than we could. Unless NESV arn't putting that much more into wages (but really do you believe they wouldn't use some of this planned extension of the wage budget on offering Torres a better deal?). I think the next day or two will clear alot of this up. I've never seen such confusion among the fans, or ed's! :-)

BommyTurke {ed's note - I was thinking that what they could offer would be a way out from the cliques at Liverpool or perhaps a reunion with Rafa. I don't think the latter is likely, but I am sure the money would be a factor too.}

do you think he will join this window?

Broken liverpool fan>>>>> {ed's note - I think the last offer was 40m and Sturridge. Personally I would not be too worried if he goes, we would have money to strengthen the team. I would be more worried if we did sign Sturridge, he is a bit of a big-time charlie, thinks he is better than he really is.}

()()

29 Jan 2011 03:02:35
Firstly he planned it.
He waited until the very end of the window, went public when he knows he won't have to play in front of us again, then window shuts so LFC is left with a cut and dried deal, cash quick to replace, no fannying around waiting for deals to gel til we decide, thus forcing a fast decision.
Secondly, Torres and Suarez have the same agent so he will be advising Suarez on his new deal and will make dough from it so won't risk it by deceiving Suarez, he must know the Torres deal on the table he most likely negotiated it weeks ago. So don't worry Suarez is still coming and the agent makes a double killing.
Torres plus his agent are as bad as Cameron and Osbourne, in it together at our expense.
We let The Saint go, Keegan go, got Kenny, Johnson and Terry Mac then we had Rush, then Fowler. .
Sun rise, sun set.
Then there's Golden Sky.

So Torres is leaving if he wants to throw in the towel just after we have walked through a storm so be it! Suarez will sign tomorrow and if we get the 50 million from torres hopefully we can finally bring Arda Turan (long time target for the king) Kun aguero and maybe some others like Adam and Honda (although it will be hard to negotiate due to asian cup final) this could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool and when we win the title next year Torres will be feelin pretty stupid!

Would love to hear your thoughts on preoceedings in the next 3 days Ed as you seem to know what your talkin bout!

Cheers melwoodman109 {ed's note - I think we will see a target man arrive, Torres go and Adam and a winger or two arrive. I would love us to go for Aguero or Llorente, but I think Hoarau and Gervinho are more likely targets, we have looked at them all window.}

to all my fellow red fans,

With regrds to who we should sign should Torres leave, i think we can straight away disregard any other small striker. Suarez aint the tallest and i'm sure our King would want a taller guy.
Personally, i would look no further than Benzema for about 20 mil. That would still leave us with another 20 mil or so from the Torres sale to maybe sign A Young or another quality winger. I'm sure during the first half of the season if someone had said to you, "you can either have Torres with a supporting midfielder or Suarez and another striker", we'd all have bittten there hands off.
So here we now find ourselves in that very position and should Chav offer us 40mil plus Sturridge, then i would say snap there hands off and then let Suarez destroy them Chavs next time we face them and watch Torres's face when he realises that the grass aint always greener when you go and sign for an ageing squad who will soon have to go through the mot severe rebuilding process we have ever seen due to the age of most of the main players. As much as i love Torres, nobody is bigger than the club so good luck fella and adios.

Hey ed, in regards to Chelseas' Aguero bid being rejected, was it a case of the club (Atletico) accepting the bid and the player refusing the move, or did Atletico reject the bid as they wanted more for him? Do you think if we were to put in a bid for him that activates his boy-out clause, they would sell him this late on in the window?

DownUnderRed {ed's note - from what I was told there was a lot of messing about with that deal, but they met his buyout clause. Despite the denials. Which says to me they met his clause and he rejected them. I am the wrong editor to ask about this deal to be honest, the one who has all the details did explain it to me, but I am not sure how much of it I can reveal (or how much I am remembering correctly!), but he will be on in a few hours, I will leave him a note on the widget to ask him to post about it for you.}

Dear Ed,

If Torres was to leave (which is looking more and more likely) do you think that it would be 50 million + Anelka OR 60 million straight? Also if it was to be either of those how would we act in terms of replacements i think that Aguero and Turan would definatley be on Kenny's shortlist but would we have time to negotiate? Would love to hear who you think we could/ should score before the deadline?
GREAT SITE and please i'd love to hear your thoughts!

LFC Fans,
Another crazy day in the life of a Kopite. Tomorrow we'll have more light shed on the subject of whether on not Nando stays or goes. If he does then he does but we must get the right amount of money for him. I expect 48-52 Million and Anelka is value. Lets not jump to conclusions yet though. Thank Fowler that KK is in charge as he and only he will be able to deal with this the right(LFC) way. Personally I think we make him stay thru the summer and reload then when we have time and more bidders. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to cash in and replenish in one go. We will survive and well done to NESV for doing all the right things to date. From these ashes the Liverbird will rise. There is more to this than meets the eye.
Have faith.

Real Madrid

Any of them could afford to go after him. But i don't see a bidding war happening. It would be better if they kept him untill the end of the summer. Then get some big money for him

Macca i agree with you. We have been disappointed by his performance for most of this season. But loved him because we thought he had a great passion for the club. At times it was disappointing to see that he was acting like the club owes him for being here. and whenever he looks frustrated we should't be afraid that he wants to leave. Rather he should have taken the blame with everybody else and fears that he would loose the support of the fans. Players like Lucas have been chanted many times but stick with us to prove their worth.
If a player thinks that he is above the club, we should let him leave.
I enjoyed his time in Liverpool and even have his number and name on my Jersey. But i wish we were never betrayed by him. I can't think of any player loved so much in our history who betrayed the fans like he did. Handing a transfer request 3 days before January transfer market closes.
ED or Macca do you know the real story behind the "verbal attack" he is reported to endure?
Is suarez really quoted saying he doesn't want to come if Torres leaves?

miccmak {ed's note - the problem I have is that, and I am sure Macca will find the same but hopefully not, the people I know are never going to say ill of Gerrard or Carragher. As those are the most likely culprits in this instance there is no way I will find out the truth. Hopefully Macca will be able to get a less one-sided view.}

Please tell me we will at least demand £60m, or we will at least stall him untill the summer so we can get to the bottom of this and figure out what has happened to his head?! . . And if we do sell him for a decent amount (£55m+) there are enough top quality players in Europe to soften this painful blow!. .We MUST go in for Aguero! . .We MUST go in for Alexis Sanchez! . .These are the only sort of signings that can soften the blow?.

. Please put this in rumours, and please tell me something Ed. . Really hope this is just his agents corupting his mind, and really hope he didn't know we agreed deal for Suarez! . .

Torres has wanted to leave for a long time. Rafa left, club out of champions league. Hick and Gillette left. Club was sold. His knee was really badly damaged, his world cup ruined by hicks and rafa.

its been a bit of mess at liverpool for the last two years. They are now a mid table team. The new owners don't have oil money. Staying at Liverpool is hurting Torres career. Plus they almost crippled him.

If i was him, i would gone Barcelona or real Madrid in January 2010. He must of known it was all over for LFC back then.

Yeah ED, i thought you would say that unfortunately, but when you go through the squad player by player there is probably only 3 or 4 players who would have the balls to threaten/ slag/ intimidate torres. These being Reina (who is probably Torres's best mate so i would rule that out), Carra (who hasn't been involved much with the squad in the last month due to him trying to regain his fitness, and i don't think carra would put personal problems ahead of the club, so i would also rule that out), Gerrard (who is torres's best non-spanish mate in the squad-i believe, although there was that thing when gerrard scored a few months ago and torres didn't celebrate with him, but i would rule Gerrard out), then i can't think of anyone who would do this. Every player seems to celebrate with him and/ or be genuinely happy when he scores, so i can only think its' either a new staff member (clarke-chelsea connection?) or he has a problem with suarez. Or maybe he just wants to leave? who knows! {ed's note - I think you have mentioned the two likely candidates with power at the club.}

Relax, people. The Torres transfer request is just a ploy to get the owners to start investing more in the team. This is nothing new in the world of football and player power.

On to the positive rumour: Griezmann would be a Liverpool player by now if his club wasn't in danger of being relegated. Reports by his club's fans suggest he is already taking english lessons and is enquiring about "the english weather". Expect a deal to be announced right after the season has finished.

This reminds me of the whole "Gerrard to Chelsea" rumors except for the fact that Gerrard never handed in a transfer request. NESV aren't going to let him go until at least the summer. They are very smart businessmen and they know they can get more for him in the summer.

Also, I'd like to believe that this is a big misunderstanding. Torres said he was happy 3 weeks ago. Either that was a lie or this new "transfer request" is not what it seems. I'll be sad to see him go but the money we get from him can buy us better replacements.

The only thing I want is for Stevie and Carra to get an EPL title.

Additional note: NESV have a long history of making smart business moves with their Red Sox. They let fan favorites Nomar Garciaparra, Manny Ramirez, and Pedro Martinez go when they knew they weren't happy anymore. I think the same will happen with Torres. Only not this January but in the Summer.

With it being put on the official site that torres himself has handed ina requet it makes it easier for them to sell him wihtout recriminations from the fans, all the hatred will go directly to torres, they will have an excuse not to spend money, its too late in the window to find a replacement, and we get suarez as his replacement

this outcome would be s**t

I see it this way, both Torres and Gerrard have been pushing for (and promised) better players for the team.
we lost Alonso and Mascherano.
Last window, Konchesky, Poulson, Cole and the OK but not world class Meireles.
Torres not happy with quality.
This window, even with new owners and KK, reds ambitions involve Warnock, Adam and Suarez.
Can we really say these players are world class.
Torres waits to see who arrives, is again disappointed with quality and asks for transfer.
If we want to keep our best players the owners need to provide funds to bid for players above the level of Warnock and Adam.

Dear Ed a couple of questions for you (seeing as you seem to have a better idea than alot of other people)

-Will suarez still sign for liverpool if torres leaves? (wich is looking more and more likely)

-What do you think the approximate sum will be and will a player be involved (anelka)?

-And finally how do you think liverpool will go about replacing him IF he infact leaves will/ would we be able to land someone like Aguero or will it be to late to strike a deal for a big name?

Love the sight and appreciate the advice thanks YNWA {ed's note - Suarez has agreed terms and only has his medical to do, with a bit of luck he will be done. I can't see him pulling out purely because he burned his bridges with Ajax in a similar was to Torres with us. I would expect over £40m + player, hopefully Anelka. There is still time to get any player, while I would love us to jump on Aguero or Llorente, I think it is more likely to be Hoarau or Lukaku.}

Ed's. . WTF had happened? This was supposed to be the day LFC just woke up from our slumber but instead I feel sick. . . I mean, Torres. . . Chelski? ?

I knew he had been tempted to leave Liverpool last summer, but now, when things seem to be changing, and him coming out 2 weeks ago saying he will ''honour'' his contract?

Well if that's honour, then we're all screwed.

I have a tatoo on my arm, it reads ''death, before dis honour'' well, if he leaves for chelsea, all i can say is , what a w**ker!

Gutted :( Yeah we would get good money for him, but we have an interesting game next weekend, CHELSEA AWAY!

Get this mess sorted quick LFC, and either get a quick fix in his place, or line up a huge deal for Aguero cas time is against us now.

Ed, do you think he will deffo be a blue by monday morning?

Okay, someone please explain to me where the hell this Transfer Request came from? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Fernando say he was committed to LFC just a little over 2 weeks ago? Since then we've started playing better football, we've started winning games, we've signed Suarez. So what is it exactly that made him submit this transfer request?? I just don't get it.

Anyways, if he wants out I say sell him for 50MM+ and bring in some quality players. I personally would like to see Llorente and Hazard brought in from the money we get from the Torres sale. What do you guys think?

I was under the impression that one of the reasons Suarez was so interested in LFC was because of Nando is there?
If this is true and he does go, I'm concerned we won't agree personal terms with Saurez either and then be held to ransom with 50m in our pockets to bring another striker in during the next 2-3 days. Sturridge does nothing for us. This is very, very bad news.

Not a rumour more an observation but this occured to me: Pini zahavi, the super agent was said to have been at liverpool a couple of weeks ago; the guy behind the russians takeover at chelsea and numerous other dubious dealings including tapping up players. at the time we thought it was about our targets as he has dealt with liverpool in the passed - in fact we 'made' him, but would make sense that he was there on the russians behalf and the person who chelsea would turn to to get a dirty agressive deal done. it could also suggest that liverpool have known this was coming for a few weeks now.

Gentlemen,

it's this simple:

if the media rumours around torres are true (specifically his lack of interest in playing for the club, his refusal to participate in bonding exercises with the rest of the squad, etc.) then we need to simply ask ourselves this question. .

DO WE WANT A PLAYER WITH THIS ATTITUDE WEARING THE SHIRT WE SO CLEARLY LOVE?

now, i value torres as much as the next liverpool fan, but i value the club more. if his attitude has shifted towards opting for the easy route to success, looking towards the billionaire owners of the football world, then good luck to him. we are liverpool football club, each and every one of us, and we know that we will outlast any of these false dawns.

we support a club built on hard work, effort and desire. if that doesn't suit some of our players, then go look for the easy option. the rest of us are here for the long haul, and we'll all support OUR CLUB through thick and thin.

if torres stays, then it will be for these reasons. if he leaves, then it just gives us more reasons to prove why we're the greatest club in football and show him why he should never have left the greatest fan-base in the world.

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE.

My mum, who is Olallah's (if you didn't know is Fernando's wife) housekeeper returned home from her work at the Torres' household today saying that right now Olallah is confused about the situation. My mother has been their housekeeper for 3 years now. She says that Torres' wife knows about the news but also knows that he is satisfied that Luis Suarez is now with the team. She also keeps saying that his family is happy in Liverpool as their second child was born at LWH. What she is confused about is that Fernando tells her (wife) everything regarding football and she saw on the news about the potential move to London, but when mentioned to his wife failed to give a yes or no answer (according to my mum). Is he seriously considering leaving Liverpool? Surely the help he needs behind him is there now. Ed?

Torres is as good as gone, once you hand in a transfer request you are saying your commitment to the cause is gone.

We should try to get as much money as possible to maybe fund a move for Aguerro (he would be my preferred choice).

I am stunned.

Hey ed, why not sell torres to city for 40 million plus richards and johnson that way we will win and chelsea can get stuffed and so can torres, because in a years time he will become the new Adebayor, {ed's note - I would take that deal.}

Right. .THANK GOD! !
now we can go into transfer windows without the endless will he won't he. .well the answer is he will and good riddance!
For a player who has played 60% of games for 100% very hefty wages and turned up only for two games this entire season he has done us all a big fat favour and shown us he isn't the man we thought he was, he's a joke and a spoiled brat too.
He's also injury prone and I can't wait for Carra to kick him into the Kop on his next visit and he will then be out for the rest of the season!
We have King Kenny who is us, and we'll have money which is all that Torres is.
How many classic novels can be written on a broken typewriter?
Let the chavs pick up the medical bills we'll pick up the silver, the golden sky and the glory days.
Where oh where oh where is your European Cup. .remember the ides of Owen.
Welcome King Luis so long wet lettuce.

The torres situation seems to be deteriorating before our eyes! If he does leave he won't go without giving liverpool a parting gift of around 60 Million pounds, wich could be used to strengthen the squad possibly even more than with torres in it. ed if this did happen who do you think we would go for? and also would King kenny and gerrard be able to pursuade torres to stay? {ed's note - I really don't think Gerrard is the right person to persuade him to stay.}

Eds, please post on transfer rumours I've had a few which havent been posted.

I work in Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood (those true reds will no were I mean). One of the old timers there still speaks to Jimmy Case and Jan Molby. He texted me this afternoon before the transfer request news and said Jan told him Nando told the club he wanted out and will be gone by Monday. I'm gutted because at his best he is the best. . but for 50 mill we could buy Everton. We can replace a striker, especially one who hasn't played well for best part of 12 months. I've got no reason to lie, and this may not be news, but I want to share this with fellow reds. He's wanted to go for a while

Ed a theory,

torres stated, never play for another prem club, and will see out contract, so do you think he said it all for the cameras or with the apparent " verbal intimidation" was final straw and wants out and although chelsea is not his first choice hel take it just like when robinho wanted out and ended up at manchester (blue).

This is a rumour I read on the official lfc website forums which have calmed me down a bit because I was near to tears and this was that KK and torres or torres on his own might have put this transfer request through to push the owners to pay up for transfers because HE CARES ABOUT THE CLUB AND WANTS TO STAY AND HAS BEEN LET DOWN BY THE LACK OF ACTIVITY SO FAR WHICH WE ALL WERE AS WELL.hope this is the real scenario so he forced the suarez deal through! ed comment please this is what a lot think {ed's note - I would love it to be true, but I just can't see it.}

i thought about this earlier alsso, i even wondered if it was a scheme hatched between nando and kk

Ed? just wondering where you get your information , and what makes you think torres has agreed personal terms , unless you are close to the club , surely SSN would know before you {ed's note - it is my opinion, I never claimed it was a fact. But SSN never mentioned that Adam shook hands on a deal with Villa before a bid was put in for him, but that is a fact. They may know, but they are not always able to report everything they know.}

50 million plus anelka

25 million for lukaka, 12 for sahko, 13 for m vila

reina
johnson kelly agger warnock
gerrard m vila meireles
anelka lukaka suarez {ed's note - I read earlier that Sakho is to be sold in the summer as the club can not afford his contract.}

i too read that, future france captain, i really don't mind torres being ssold if we get anelka to replace him for this season or the money is invested straight back into the squad now before the window closes.
dont get me wrong i love torres but he handed in the request and i d be okay if he left, what i actually think we will see is talks between kk the owners and torres over the coming days , and them ressultantly signing three big names before the window ccloses to match his ambition. or we sell him and get anelka, sign lukak for 22 million fits nesv s profile. anelka is a superb centre froward in my opinion and if we had him and suarez up frpnt for the ret of the season i don't think we d miss nanddo too much, a lot of nandos game needs working on, he is poor in possesion sometimes , his link play can be attrocious, anelka on the other hand has excellent link play. basically i d be quite happy with anelka and the fity million to reinvest, torres has lost a yard of pace {ed's note - Houllier's biggest mistake was not signing Anelka to a permanent deal, he was great for us and a nice lad too.}

Just a question I want to throw out to fellow red fans. Does anyone else think there is a strong possibility that TORRES has been tapped up in months previous. Lets face it everyone knew he was unhappy in the summer and to be fair we were lucky to keep him then. Then hodgson came in, which probably only made matters worse so he becomes even more unhappy, then chelsea come along and say hey nando why don't ya come to us in the jan transfer window. His head gets turned then comes the transfer request. Chelsea do have a record for tapping up! Just food for thought that's all. any responses will be appreciated

If the worst happens and we sell torres eds do you think it'll leave us with enough time to find a replacement of a similar ability as torres such as aguero or lloronte (spelling)? Who do uz think we should look at for a replacement if it does happen? {ed's note - for me it would be Aguero or Llorente to replace him. We certainly have time, it only takes hours to negotiate when you don't have time to go away and sleep on things.}

{ed's note - which none of Tony Evans etc called right at all. They all said he had phoned up and asked the club to listen to Chelsea. That is completely different from him handing in a WRITTEN transfer request on THURSDAY.}

If it was handed in on Thursday then maybe he will change his mind now that we have signed Suarez? Maybe he handed it in with the thought that if we are not able to sign quality (as he was promised) then he wanted to make sure he still had time to get a move elsewhere before deadline day. I can't help but feel I'm clutching at straws though. I fear the worst, el nino has played his last game for the club. I'm off to bed in the hope that when I wake up this will all have been some crazy dream and Torres is quoted as relishing the chance to form a formidable partnership with Suarez. . if only!

{ed's note - Chelsea are not averse to agreeing with the player before making a bid, they did the same with Gerrard. I just wonder if that is why Torres is so desperate to leave all of a sudden, they have promised him something we couldn't compete

The only thing it can be is money? Let's be honest, chelsea are on the way down, Roman knows this and is paniking. There star players are aging, won't be able to spend massively in the future. Chelsea won't be dominating English football in the near future. I hope torres signs for 60 million and they come 5th. Think liverpool fans deserve some good news following the hardest 18 months we could off imagined.

Liverpool will always be bigger and better then Fernando.

Ok Eds, Chelsea bid for Aguero. Turned down. As a few Eds on here know, Liverpool have interest in Honda and Turan. They also know, so do Atletico. Now then, is this me thinking totally outside the box or could we be looking at the transfer merry-go-round? Torres goes to Chelsea. Liverpool has money. Liverpool drops their interest in Honda and Turan, freeing a clear path for Atletico to sign them. Aguero goes to Liverpool. Any thoughts Eds?

Martin {ed's note - interesting theory, it would also provide the funds for Atletico to pay for the players.}

add to thi i think commoli wants lukaka who supports chelsea who will get out of our way if we let them have torres

Hi guys,

I'm excited and shocked at the same time by todays events! Suarez will be a superb signing and if Torres goes that's his choice! The new owners should be appaulded by the way they have handled his requests! At the end of the day Torres will leave but the new owners don't need to sell so if Torres is to go it must be for at least £60m! There is no clause in his contract! Also I think Liverpool will seek legal advice as I believe the player has been tapped up! Chelsea are known for this and will be banned once again!

I heard tonight from a friend in Liverpool that Elia or Turan will sign by Monday! More likely Turan an he is a class act!

Ed i don't understand this why would he want to go to an ageing side, who prob will have to rebuild like us.plus will he not be cup tied for champions league, or is he sounding out madrid, barca or even man city that hes open to offers or is it deeper than this maybe a bust up with someone at the club.why leave it so late in the transfer window and not giving the club a chance to replace him.just go's to show what he thinks of liverpool football club.
what ye think ed? {ed's note - I do think the bust up has to be a big possibility, it wouldn't be the first time. The club going public with the transfer request makes me think they are ready to accept him leaving but want to stir up interest.}

A lot of people on here are saying they would want Lukaku if Torres goes, theres also talk that Chelski have offered drogba as part of the deal, am i right in thinking that Lukaku loves Drogba?

I'd hate to see Drogba in a Liverpool shirt but if it helps the Lukaku deal it could be a silver lining.

()()

29 Jan 2011 01:07:49
Ed that the media are talking bulls**t is little consolation when the offical site is telling us fernando himself submitted a written contract

i have had a sneaking suspicion all week that commolli wants lukaka in to partner suarez up front, torres out and we get dibs on lukaka! with possibly anelka involved in the torres deal to give lukaka time to settle in england {ed's note - I would take that, would rather Lukaku and Anelka.}

oh i meant that ed , that we d then have all three anelka lukak and suarez

that would in fact be our front line, using some of the money from torres to buy a proper midfield enforcer to play behind gerrard and meireles

gerrard mvila meireles
anelka lukaka suarez {ed's note - at the end of the day I would rather have 11 players who want to play for us, we don't need sulks up front.}

ref: {ed's note - personally I think he has just had too good an offer from Chelsea to turn down and it is all agreed.}

Hi Ed, I agree with you but what gets my back up is that Torres, at the moment, should officially have no idea of the deal being offered by Chelsea as we have not accepted a bid. {ed's note - yeah but it never works like that, we all know it should, but it never does.}

()()

29 Jan 2011 01:05:15
Eds do you think the Torres thing is anything to do with the rumoured issues he had with Gerard and Caraghar? Just been hearing the rumour about him wanting to leave because he was verbally intimidated? Noticed he hasn't been the same with Gerard of late, as in any goal celebrations or lack of. And I personally think he's looked far happier on the pitch while Gerard was banned. I really think that there could be something in this, as I believe both Gerard and Caragher are far too big for their boots, so to speak, at our club.
And thoughts, Eds?

Martin {ed's note - I did wonder this myself, unfortunately all the people I know are likely to take issue with that kind of suggestion. There is very much a clique around the pair of them.}

()()

29 Jan 2011 01:03:12
Hi Ed, great site. The world will focus on Torres now. Can it be a smokescreen? We know Chelsea put a bid. We know Torres has submitted transfer request. But we don't know if he wants to go to Chelsea. Nothing about it. As I said: Can it be a smokescreen set up by LFC with Torres (cheeky Yanks). Everyone will focus on him so we have chance to focus on other targets? And on the end of the day, Torres will stay, LFC will say that was mistake and in meantime we will close few deals (including 1 large - Aguero?)
Ed, What do you think? pls post it in rumours. {ed's note - I think that is just wishful thinking mate.}

So a full day later and still none of these "sources" have been confirmed. I hope we're all taking note of which papers and news stations are actively working against our club. The one good thing about this is that hopefully when it turns out this is bullcarp people will have noticed the blatant anti liverpool sentiment in the media.
If this whole torres thing is wrong then the media will be blatantly exposed as biased.
I can't see how anyone could deny it.

I have and i hope you have too as it has been confirmed by LFC.tv that the rat did hand in a transfer request. {ed's note - which none of Tony Evans etc called right at all. This is a tough one to call
1 Transfer request submitted and rejected
2 Bigger offer from chelsea will be made
3 Did Torres know Suarez was coming. . ie Transfer request put in before deal for suarez was agreed
4 What does Torres want to do now?
5 Will Suarez still come if he feels Torres will be leaving?
6 Do we reject offers for Torres and try to ensure that by summer he is happier or do we get rid of him for as much as we can and hope suarez still signs
7 Do we keep Torres till summer and then sell him for as much as we can with time to get in a decent replacement plus more squad strengthening

So many questions. . .
Sell him now . .believable. . . . . keep him. .unbelievable

keep him till summer get suarez, then summer sell for plenty of cash and buy stronger replacement in aguero, and strengthen the other positions needed

Get ready for a shock: Torres will be sold for weeks 65 million and not to Chelski.

Returning (or so my source tells me) will be (possibles - deal to be done/ being done): Crouch, Alonso, Warnock.

New signings: Adam, Young, SWP.

Watch this space.

PS - Torres is a crock - close to the end of his shelf-life (why do you think we are selling?)

Have people noticed the subtle continuous reference in the media and press to LFC being owned by FSG (Fenway Sports Group)? This seems to be a deliberate attempt to undermine our ownership structure by these people. The fact is FSG has nothing to do with LFC. We are owned by New England Sports Ventures (NESV) who also happen to own FSG and Fenway Park. We are an equal asset to FSG not a subsidiary so I find the reference frankly insulting. {ed's note - I noticed Ben Smith of the Times doing that and pointed it out to him but funnily enough he didn't reply to that.}

Just like to say well done to all the Eds for their knowledgable input on Suarez not even being on Liverpool's transfer target list.

Go and look back at Cached pages I said around £22m for Suarez. Expect only Warnock to come if we can get him.

Konchesky is heading back to Fulham on loan with view to £2.5m permanant move. Jovanovic will be staying because we can't get a winger this month why we stretched to £22m for Suarez.

Some people are saying it don't make sense

It makes perfect sense

This Torres/ Chelsea thing has been planned for weeks, its the same thing as Mascherano

Chelsea put late bid, Torres says he wants to go, Liverpool desperate to get rid of an unhappy player, Chelsea get him on the cheap

Exactly the same as Masch who was worth almost double the £18m we got

Chelsea and Torres Representatives will have been discussing this for weeks

FORCE TORRES TO STAY

This MUST occur, these footballers must be taught the hard way, if you sign the contract you honour it.

They get it too easy these days paid absolute fortunes, and performing when they fancy and not performing when they dont

He must be FORCED to stay, and forced to play, and forced to endure whatever reception Anfield and away fans give him.So we don't have a repetition of the same thing in 2 years

We should all be buzzing know we Just Signed Luis Suarez (A Million times better World Cup than Nando) {ed's note - we all know Chelsea have been proven to have tapped up players a number of times. Hardly a surprise if they have done it again, just means another small fine or maybe this time a longer transfer ban to be appealed against and overturned.}

Liverpool reject Torres transfer request and expect him to honor his contract. Two weeks ago he said he would stay and help fight for the club, so what's happened to make him change his mind Ed? {ed's note - personally I think he has just had too good an offer from Chelsea to turn down and it is all agreed.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Ed he's also eligible to play in the knock out rounds of Champions League. Do you think this could be a factor in him wanting to leave in this window?

Ed, do you think there would even be enough time for us to get another striker in to replace torres if he went?
As i think the suarez deal was to compliment him, not replace him.
In my opinion, It has to be Llorente if worst comes to the worst. H'ed be a great target man, especially for suarez.

Stu. {ed's note - there is always time, but I would like to see us wrap up his replacement before letting him leave just in case.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Aguero doesn't want out of athletico otherwise Chelsea would have him by now, if they have 50 plus for Torres they would have enough for his transfer activation clause. {ed's note - not everyone wants to play for Chelsea, Pienaar certainly didn't.}

He's spent 4 years earning our respect only to lose it in a day. 19 days ago he said he was here for his contract, whats changed? I am glad with the way nesv have dealt with this, saying he's not available and by refusing his request. Ed you still think he'll be here next month, I do unless Chelsea offer some serious cash. {ed's note - I don't know, it seems unlikely they will hang onto him now they have gone public with the transfer request. Seems to be a way to put the blame onto him.}

would tend to agree with this, or could it be the clubs way to force through a sale undoubtedly if he is sold torres will come out and say the club forced him to leave eitherway

its all bulls**t and mind games, if he wants to go sell him, he s lost his pace anyway, get 50 million and anelka(who will do until the end of the season) bring in our other targets anyway adam, honda suarez and possibly lukaka m vila

I feel Torres has stabbed us in the back. {ed's note - Chelsea are not averse to agreeing with the player before making a bid, they did the same with Gerrard. I just wonder if that is why Torres is so desperate to leave all of a sudden, they have promised him something we couldn't compete with.}

This is the Truth

Rafa to be next Chelsea manager 100%

That is why he wants Chelsea
Rafa is still in Liverpool causing problems with Torres head ( Thats what has changed ) using his Spanish mouth in the press you know who I'm talking about as does Macca

His fall out with Liverpool players is he wanted rafa to stay Gerrard Carra etc didn't

New owners playing mind games and will use as excuse to balance books

they don't want superstars the want a team of 11 equals

Rafa is our problem I promise " I interviwed him every week at Melwood"

watch city come in with 54 Million offer but it's Chelsea he wants

Just let him go

Ok Eds, Chelsea bid for Aguero. Turned down. As a few Eds on here know, Liverpool have interest in Honda and Turan. They also know, so do Atletico. Now then, is this me thinking totally outside the box or could we be looking at the transfer merry-go-round? Torres goes to Chelsea. Liverpool has money. Liverpool drops their interest in Honda and Turan, freeing a clear path for Atletico to sign them. Aguero goes to Liverpool. Any thoughts Eds?

Could it be that torres' agent/ representative is simply trying to negotiate a payrise for him? best way to do that is to let on other clubs are interested to get a 'we can't lose you' reaction. how much is shrek on now at manure? problem is, liverpool will only give a payrise to those who deserve it and not to those who try and con the club into doing so. this could end badly for torres, if this was the case. he could end up getting sold if the board don't take kindly to such underhand actions and he could be playing for a club he has no interest in, because he wanted a few extra grand a week. i really hope this is not the case. i would love torres to finish his career with us. he could go down in history as the man who brought us the title after 20 years, provided he keeps his head from turning with stories like this

On SSN now.
So it's now a matter of when he goes and how much we get.
And depressingly Suarez is a replacement, not a partner for El Nino.
A wide player was the aim for this January.
Charlie Adam was seen as a 'nice to have' bonus signing - but expect any cash earmarked for him to be diverted.

Anyone else wish this season was over?

his request was rejected cos he won't be going no where till summer and then it will be for over 50 mill, and we will then get his replacement, but by summer he might change his mind he seems to change it fast lol, , suarez deal will happen cos torres won't be gone till summer then a partner for suarez will be bought, id say aguero cos he has a release clause of £39 mill so money from torres will get him, then we will get a few more defender, winger so on

ed that the media are talking bulls**t is little consolation when the offical site is telling us fernando himself submitted a written contract

i have had a sneaking suspicion all week that commolli wants lukaka in to partner suarez up front, torres out and we get dibs on lukaka! with possibly anelka involved in the torres deal to give lukaka time to settle in england {ed's note - I would take that, would rather Lukaku and Anelka.}

Ed?

{ed's note - which none of Tony Evans etc called right at all. knowing hat we know of torres character, it wouldn't be about money it d be about sporting ambition, could be a ploy to get big signings into the club, torres wants to win things, that's for sure and the reasons he is contemplating leaving is because he doesn't think that will happen at liverpool. that is the same reason why he left atletico, so its time the owners really let him know their plans and either go out and match fernandos ambition in the transfer market and have us to a place where we can be challenging for the league title next season or let him leave

Torres wants to leave liverpool, he is trying to force the move through, I actually can't believe it! Allthough i can understand his decision.
Fernando wants to win medals and he seems to think it is unlikely to happen with liverpool, champions league qualification seems very unlikely, and he doesn't want to be playing in the europa league for another year.
with Chelsea adding torres to their strikeforce they will be able to compete for both premier league and champions league trophy's this season. This is what abramovich wants and will go all out for him.
I expect the deal to be worth around the £45-50 million mark with a player coming the other way (most likely sturridge)
As im writing this i have heard that liverpool are going to confirm it. . . bye bye fernando. . u little citshunt. . lol. . I wonder how suarez feels about this. . . . don't be surprised if the forlan rumour comes about again, and supposedly he doesn't want to go to spurs? if i hear of anything on the grapevine, u will be the first to know :)
the stench

i just posted this. . . it was put on the banter page? this is not banter! it is the truth. Liverpool fans (including me) need to get used to the fact that torres wants out. . and regarding liverpool confirming this(read above), what i meant was that they will confirm that torres has given a written transfer request. . . which they have.
It is now down to the liverpool hierarchy on what to do. They might decide to keep him till the summer, where he will definitely be sold, but for a deflated price.
decisions decisions! !
If they can get a suitable replacement they should let him go because i for 1 would not want a player that doesn't want to wear the red of liverpool in the team.
And why did he come out and say he was going to honour is contract! !?? the more i think about it the angrier i get! !
And i will ask again. . what will suarez think of the situation? i don't think hes going to like it much! !
the stench {ed's note - don't worry about where it went tonight, it is a bit frantic here! There are hundreds and hundreds of repeat posts etc.}

This was picked up from earlier in the month when hodgson left. . by Torres

"More than ever, we need to stick together, " he told The People. "We must live in the present, from match to match."

"We need to add more points, win matches and improve our standing in the table."

"That is our challenge and I demand the total help of our supporters in doing that."

"My head is in Liverpool and on helping save our season. I am professional and I always fulfil my deals."

"I haven't considered leaving, although in football that depends on the club."

now theres a few ways of looking at this
- he always fulfills his deals and is committed - end of
or
- he always fulfills his deals - deal being if we don't look like qulaifying for champions league he can move in Jan if right offer comes in
or
-it depends on the club - if they don't spend the money on players in the transfer window i'll leave

Given that he came out and said this this fits with my rumour that Kenny has asked him to do it to force some money out of the new owners to push through some big deals - suarez deal is now down all of a sudden with an offer more like it should have been. .and more will follow

He came out when Kenny was appointed saying he was impressed with him and he was motivating the team and that he wants Kenny to have to job full time, as does Gerrard. I don't think the Suarez offer being raised was due to Torres asking for Lfc to listen to offers from Chelsea (I'm still not convinced he actually did this) Lfc belongs at the top of the PL and for us to sell Torres in January would be stupid. Torres needs a strikepartner who can match his ability and in Suarez we have that. These two can be one of the best strikeforces in Europe. To cut it short Torres isn't leaving, in my opinion until at least Summer.

Bel - Agree.
Unbel - Disagree.
